03:30Armed Forces of Nigeria, AFN has insisted that Brigadier General Assani Brahma is alive,

03:36after several reports indicated that the commander of the 29 Task Force Brigade in Operation Hadankai

03:43was left dead alongside several other Nigerian soldiers when the Islamic State of West Africa Province,

03:50ISWAP launched a coordinated multiple attacks on military bases at Polka,

03:55Baking Rua communities in Gwoza local government area and Namdi and Beneshaik communities

04:01in the Kagga local government area of Borno State between the hours of 10 p.m. on Wednesday night and

04:0812 a.m. on Thursday early morning night,

04:11killing several numbers of Nigerian soldiers over ransom of the military bases.

04:16But, the Nigeria Military Authority claimed that Brigadier General Assani Brahma and his troops were able to repel the attackers

04:24at Beneshaik,

04:25saying, the Brigadier General is alive and not dead as widely reported in some media platforms.

04:31In addition, the Nigerian Defense Headquarters in a press statement issued a few hours ago by Major General Michael Onoja,

04:40admitted that some numbers of Nigerian soldiers were left dead during the attacks but refused to state the total numbers

04:46of soldiers killed by the attackers.

04:48Accordingly, the army said, regrettably, the encounter resulted in the loss of a few brave and gallant soldiers who paid

04:56the supreme price in the line of duty.

04:59According to the Nigeria Defense Headquarters in a press release that looked apparently self-contradicting,

05:05questionable and somehow dishonest with facts,

05:07In continuation of the Armed Forces of Nigeria's, AFN, counter-terrorism efforts,

05:14troops of the 29 Task Force Brigade in Operation Hadamkai came under a coordinated terrorist attack on their location at

05:21the brigade headquarters in Beneshaik,

05:24Borno State.

05:25The attack occurred at approximately 0.30 hours, 12.30 a.m., on Thursday 9 April 2026,

05:33as insurgents attempted to breach the defensive perimeter of the military installation.

05:38However, the troops, led by the Commander 29 Brigade, Brigadier General Assani Bremer,

05:45responded with exceptional courage, professionalism, and superior firepower.

05:50In a well-coordinated counteraction, the insurgents were decisively engaged and forced to retreat in disarray,

05:57abandoning their mission and leaving behind traces of their failed assault.

06:01This attack is a clear indication of the desperation of terrorist elements who,

06:06having suffered significant losses in recent operations,

06:09continue to resort to futile and ill-fated offensives against well-defended military positions.

06:15The swift and decisive response by troops underscores the high level of combat readiness,

06:21resilience, and operational effectiveness of Operation Hadamkai

06:25in safeguarding critical locations and maintaining pressure on terrorist groups across the Northeast Theater.

06:31Regrettably, the encounter resulted in the loss of a few brave and gallant soldiers

06:36who paid the supreme price in the line of duty.

06:39The Chief of Defense Staff, General Olifemi Alatenbos and Oliade,

06:44honors their heroism, sacrifice, and unwavering commitment to the defense of the nation.

06:49Their courage will forever remain a source of pride and inspiration to the armed forces of Nigeria and the entire

06:57The high command extends its deepest concern.

07:00Nigeria President, Bola Ahmed Tanubu has given reasons why he could not visit the Angwin-Rakuba community,

07:07the scene some citizens were massacred by terrorists on Palm Sunday, saying,

07:12Upon arrival in Joss, the visit encountered some logistical challenges,

07:16while the road distance from the airport to Joss Township is approximately 40 minutes,

07:21the runway does not support night flights due to the absence of navigational aids.

07:26The constraints made it unfeasible to drive into town, meet victims for on-the-spot assessment and return to the

07:32airport before dusk.

07:33Consequently, state and federal officials decided to bring representatives of the affected community to a hall

07:40adjoining the airport so the president could meet with them promptly while adhering to flight restrictions.

07:46Swiftly, Peter Obi, former governor of Anambra state and the Labour Party presidential candidate in the last general elections in

07:54Nigeria,

07:55said, during his visit to Benawai State in June 2025,

08:00Bola Ahmed Tanubu stopped at the government house but did not go to the actual scene where innocent Nigerians lost

08:07their lives.

08:08Similarly, in Joss, his engagement ended at the airport instead of at the affected communities.

08:14At a time when Nigerians are enduring days without power, our leaders cannot even stay a few minutes without it.

08:21Now is the time to stop incompetent leaders.

08:24Those lacking the capacity and compassion, who prioritize their own comfort over the well-being of the people and make

08:30empty promises.

08:31On the other hand, Atiku Abubakar, the former vice president of Nigeria and the last general elections presidential candidate of

08:40the People's Democratic Party, PDP,

08:43demanded President Bola Ahmed Tanubu act as the commander-in-chief of the armed forces and stated how dozens have

08:50continued to be killed in Benawai State less than 72 hours,

08:54and other killings in Kaduna State and thousands of people seen running away at a community in Nasarawa State after

09:02the president had visited Plateau State and promised such attack wouldn't occur again,

09:07according to Atiku Abubakar.

09:09I wish to remind President Bola Tanubu to keep to his words that this Angwin-Rakuba attack will not repeat

09:16itself.

09:17It does appear that those words are hollow because barely 72 hours.

09:21Another attack in Benawai State claimed over a dozen lives.

09:25The commander-in-chief should brace up to the challenges of governance.

09:29President Bola Ahmed Tanubu, through the Office of the Special Advisor to the President on Information and Strategy,

09:36Bayo Onanuga on April 3, 2026 in a statement said,

09:41President Tanubu's itinerary for Thursday included two main engagements,

09:45receiving the Chadian president, Mahamat Idris Debi Idno, and proceeding to Iperu, Ogun State.

09:52After Governor Caleb Muffong's briefing, President Tanubu suspended the trip to Ogun.

09:58Overnight, the presidential villa made arrangements for the visit to Joss, with presidential assets quickly deployed.

10:06However, the president could not postpone the scheduled visit by the Chadian leader.

10:11The president of Chad was at the presidential villa for a very important bilateral meeting

10:16focused on strengthening security collaboration between the two countries.

10:20The meeting ran longer than expected, affecting President Tanubu's scheduled departure for Joss.

10:27Upon arrival in Joss, the visit young man who identified himself as a 400-level student in the Department of

10:37Unijoss in Plateau State has given accounts how he was told to go and collect the dead body of his

10:43sibling on the phone by the attackers

10:45who on Wednesday were seen in a viral video that mobbed and stoned his sibling almost to death at an

10:51ever-busy road near the permanent site of the University of Joss.

10:55Accordingly, he said the victim who happened to be his younger sibling is also a 300-level student in the

11:02Department of Geology from the same University of Joss,

11:05saying,

11:06His younger sibling only went out around 8 or 9 on Wednesday morning to resolve issue with his bank account

11:12at Terminus' area of the Joss City

11:14when he came under attack after the driver of the commercial tricycle or KK he entered abandoned him halfway

11:20and asked him to find way out for his own escape as the rampaging mobs took over the road.

11:26According to the elder brother of the mob victim who also introduced himself simply as Nando,

11:31his younger sibling already sensing danger, called him on the phone,

11:36that the KK driver had abandoned him halfway before the junction of his house,

11:40that,

11:41He's currently running on the street towards home,

11:44adding,

11:44The victim begged him to look for commercial motorcycle or a Cada rider to advance towards his direction

11:50and wait at their street junction to help him home,

11:53but,

11:54While he made attempt to do as requested by his younger brother,

11:58the security operatives in the area prevented him,

12:01saying,

12:01They can't allow him go out because the situation in town was too dangerous.

12:06He said while he was looking helpless,

12:09he decided to put a call across to his younger brother,

12:12only for the phone's call to be answered by the attackers who spoke to him in house the language that

12:17they have killed his brother,

12:19that,

12:19He should go to the scene to pick his younger brother's dead body.

12:23He said he started crying and a lot of people around started consoling him while the security operatives at the

12:29senior staff quarters gate still prevented him from going out until there is normalcy in the area.

12:35He said some sympathizers took him home from the point he was to the university staff quarters where his neighbors

12:42who came in to also console him started encouraging him not to cry again,

12:46with the optimism that his younger brother is not dead.

12:50He said one of his neighbors thereafter asked him to report the issue at the police station,

12:55which they did and submitted the snapped copy of the victim's student identity card at the police station and returned

13:01home waiting for feedback from the police.

13:04He said he was waiting on the police for feedback,

13:07he decided to log in into his WhatsApp group chats,

13:10and behold,

13:11he saw a video of his younger brother being interviewed at a hospital bed inside an undisclosed medical center and

13:17that was how he knew he was still alive and his whereabouts.

13:21It would be recalled that we had reported that it may not be wrong to say lack of proper accountability

13:26by the Nigeria police force.

14:58this, the Plateau State command of the Nigeria police force in a statement on Wednesday,

15:04only said a disagreement ensued between some youths in Nasrawagwong community of Joss North local government area on Wednesday

15:12and caused minor tensions in the town, saying,

15:16Unfortunately, some hoodlums and crisis merchants took advantage of the situation

15:21to cause fear and panic among traders and students within the university community.

15:26However, the command in collaboration with other security agencies swiftly intervened,

15:32arrested the situation and restored calm in the area

15:35but the Nigeria police force command apparently kept mute on the now viral video of a man being mobbed

15:42and stoned to death in a brutal and highly provocative manner that can cause a reprisal attack,

15:47more so, as daily killings in the state are attributed to religious differences.

15:52Although some persons said the victim was still alive

15:55but Sun newspaper reported on Thursday morning that three persons including the victim

15:59were killed in the fresh violence that erupted in Plateau State on Wednesday.

16:04According to the police press release signed and made available by the Plateau State Police Command

16:10Public Relations Officer, Alfred Alibo, following the relaxation of the 48-hour curfew

16:16by the Executive Governor of Plateau State, the Commissioner of Police, C.P. Basiowa,

16:22advises members of the public to comply with the curfew imposition,

16:25as there will be strict enforcement.

16:28In the early hours of today, a disagreement which ensued between some youths in Nasarawagwang

16:34community of Joss North local government area caused minor tensions in the town.

16:39Unfortunately, some hoodlums and crisis merchants took advantage of the situation

16:44to cause fear and panic among traders and students within the university community.

16:50However, the command in collaboration with other security agencies swiftly intervened,

16:55arrested the situation and restored calm in the area.

16:59Efforts have since been made by the police, the state government and the leadership of the school

17:04to provide buses to convey the students to their preferred locations while massive security

17:09deployment has been made by the command to secure other students and school facilities.

17:14So far, the command has arrested seven suspects including one Matthew Moussa, 27 years,

17:21who was arrested in possession of two locally made firearms and one Yakubu Abdullahi, 26 years old

17:28who was wearing a military uniform.

18:15terrorists raided the community and operated for a long period of time that lasted up to an hour

18:21without resistance or any action from government, some even accused men of the armed forces of

18:27Nigeria, AFN of allegedly aiding and giving cover to the terrorists to escape, specifically,

18:33one of the youth's leaders in Plateau State who spoke with a prominent Nigeria social media

18:38personality. Martins Vincentos aka Varidogman who visited the scene of the crime, said,

18:45Nigeria soldiers prevented the youths from going after the terrorists and stood in between the

18:50gaps shooting at the youths while the terrorists escaped, but, in a swift reaction on Tuesday,

18:56Nigeria Army Authority debunked the claim that the Solidars gave the terrorists a cover,

19:01saying, the soldiers arrived the scene with four gun trucks after the terrorists have left due to

19:07long distance and acted professionally without stating what the soldiers did, professionally,

19:12before the Sunday massacre, on Friday, in one of the burial ceremonies of the people that were

19:17previously killed by terrorists in Plateau State during the Christians' Holy Week of Lent,

19:23Reverend Ezekiel Dacamo while speaking, said, in this village, Rim in Rim local government area,

19:29alone, we have received attacks from the Islamic terrorists more than 24 times, and many residents

19:36said the Sunday massacre was premeditated and the governor and the president apparently failed to

19:41put proactive measures in place to prevent the attacks, that aside, almost at the same time on

19:47Sunday, another group of terrorists attacked Kahir village in Kagako local government area of Kaduna

19:54State, shot sporadically at residents and killed and kidnapped several numbers of wedding guests,

19:59a crime, according to Punch newspaper, a resident said the attack has operated freely and

20:04successfully up to an hour without resistance, but, President Bola Ahmed Tanubu in a press statement

20:11on Tuesday specifically said, I commend Governor Caleb Mutfwang of Plateau State for his efforts

20:16in containing the situation in Joss and Governor Uba Sani of Kaduna State for supporting the rescue

20:22and containment efforts. Apparently reacting to the worsening security situation in Nigeria shortly,

20:29after the president press release was published on Tuesday, Lieutenant General Takua Baratai,

20:35former Nigeria chief of army staff posted a video in his verified Facebook social media account,
