00:08An effort about which the Lebanese are divided over its success. Let's take a look.
00:16The international leader, after his meetings with Lebanese President Joseph Allen, the Speaker of Parliament, and the Prime Minister,
00:24issued a call to the Israeli-occupying entity and to Hezbollah to declare a ceasefire that ends the war and
00:31paves the way towards
00:32a solution that allows Lebanon to become a country where its authorities have the monopoly on the use of force.
00:42And my message is very clear. We must stop this war. We must have an immediate ceasefire.
00:50And my appeal to both parties is let's do an immediate ceasefire.
00:58Let's stop this enormous suffering of the Lebanese people and we'll do our best to make sure that with the
01:07ceasefire
01:08there will be serious negotiations to guarantee that Lebanon will see its sovereignty, its territorial integrity respected
01:20and at the same time that the Lebanon state with the totality of its communities will be a strong state
01:31and will be able to exercise the monopoly of the force in the country.
01:37Unfortunately, based on the experience of the Israeli war against Lebanon,
01:41neither the United Nations nor the world community ever managed to exert pressure on the Israeli enemy,
01:46but quite the opposite pressure is exerted on Lebanon as a state, people, community, and government.
01:52So there is no pressure whatsoever on Israel, which receives full support from Western countries
01:57led by the United States. For this reason, I believe that this visit is merely formal
02:02and has no practical effect that could stop the war against Lebanon,
02:06notwithstanding that all Lebanese want the war and the Israeli aggressions to stop,
02:10and that the UN and the world community would truly be able to halt the hostility of the Israeli enemy.
02:20The UN Secretary General expressed his solidarity with the Lebanese people
02:25and lamented that the Lebanese were dragged into a war they did not want.
02:29Statements that those affected by the relentless Israeli bombings on residential areas, denounce,
02:35do not help to alleviate their suffering, much less to restore peace in their country.
02:43I am 50 years old, and in all my life I have not seen the UN able to do anything
02:47for us.
02:47The UN Secretary General does nothing but express his concern without managing to prevent the destruction of Palestine,
02:54the invasion of Venezuela, and the kidnapping of its President Maduro.
02:57The whole world is being lost, Gaza has been lost, and the Arab states, including Lebanon, will be lost,
03:03and the United Nations remains incapable of doing anything.
03:06So we have no choice but to defend ourselves by using force as a free and sovereign people who defend
03:11their dignity,
03:12and do not wait for the United Nations to do it.
03:19Guterres' visit takes place at a time when Lebanon is suffering from violent Israeli bombings that,
03:24from the second day of this current month of March until now,
03:28in addition to spreading death and destruction,
03:30have turned nearly one million Lebanese into displaced persons who denounce the inaction of the UN
03:36and the international community in the face of the appalling humanitarian conditions they are experiencing.
