00:00And the United Nations Security Council addressed the situation following the attacks by the United States and Israel against Iran.
00:06During the session UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres urged for de-escalation in the Western Asia region.
00:15I would like to speak now about the path forward that we need for the region and the world.
00:20I call for de-escalation and the cessation of hostilities.
00:23The alternative is nothing less than an extensive conflict, with grave consequences for civilians and regional stability.
00:30I strongly urge all parties to return immediately to the negotiating table, particularly to address the issue of the Iranian
00:36nuclear program.
00:37I note that the President of the United States has reportedly spoken with leaders from Saudi Arabia, Qatar, and the
00:44United Arab Emirates.
00:45Likewise, the Foreign Minister of Iran has spoken with his counterparts in the Gulf countries and Iran.
00:53It must be made to prevent an intensification of violence.
00:57To this end, I call upon all member states to strictly fulfill their obligations under international law, including the United
01:03Nations Charter,
01:04to respect and protect civilians in accordance with international humanitarian law, and to ensure nuclear safety.
01:10Let us act. Let us all act responsibly together, to lead the region and the world away from the abyss.
01:16Let us act.
