00:08It's something so special being this close to the water.
00:11I think it's a sense of calm and clarity that it brings.
00:14I guess it's why so many of us head towards the coast, a river or lakeside
00:18when it comes to our holidays.
00:19Well, that's exactly what Graham is doing on tonight's show,
00:22although fair to say he is taking it next level.
00:25He's going to be cruising down the spectacular east coast of New Zealand,
00:30soaking in all of the scenery and the ocean air.
00:33Fair to say, I'm feeling a little bit jealous right now.
00:36We've got that and lots more to look forward to as well.
00:40Tonight, she's a star judge on Australian Idol.
00:43But if her new puppy doesn't behave,
00:46Marsha Hines might be the one in the hot seat.
00:49Marsha and I have been auditioning a new talent for Australian Idol.
00:53This one.
00:54Here it is.
00:57Why travel the world in search of beautiful gardens
01:00when one of our neighbours has some spectacular ones?
01:04I'm taking you on a stunning cruise right around New Zealand.
01:09This curry might not win any beauty contests,
01:12but your taste buds won't care.
01:14It is pretty damn delicious.
01:19Plus, Melissa's visiting the suburb that's redefining apartment living.
01:24It gives me hope for the future of buildings, really.
01:29So much better.
01:32I'm in Western Sydney and behind me is the Coliseum.
01:36These days, of course, it's Idol HQ because you and I know what goes on right inside that building.
01:42It's the most unusual place to be making a house call to a little dog.
01:46Look, you see, this little dog's mum has been part of Australian television, musicals for a long, long time.
01:53She's a household name.
01:54She's a wonderful lady.
01:56We're going to go and meet her and find out what problem she's got with this little dog of hers
02:00and try and sort them out.
02:16Arsha.
02:17Harry.
02:18How are you?
02:18Oh, I'm good.
02:19How are you?
02:20I'm excellent.
02:20Is this the problem child?
02:22Yeah, that's brother.
02:23What do you call him?
02:25Brother.
02:25Brother?
02:26Yeah.
02:26Okay.
02:27We have a cat called Sister.
02:28Sister's six.
02:29He's one.
02:30So he's only a little babe.
02:32He's a baby.
02:32He's not any mature yet.
02:34No.
02:34Okay.
02:35This is a dog that runs away and doesn't come back.
02:37Is that right?
02:37Correct.
02:38We need to talk about this.
02:39Shall we?
02:40Yeah, can we?
02:40Come on in.
02:41Come on in, yeah.
02:41Come on.
02:42Good boy.
02:43Come on.
02:44Okay.
02:44Good dog.
02:46He's a good guy.
02:48Well.
02:49But he's, um.
02:49I will let you know what I think at the end of the conversation.
02:52I'm sure you will.
02:53Now, you're coming to work today.
02:54Do you get a lift to work?
02:55What happens?
02:56I come into here and everybody in Idol wants a piece of the deal.
03:00He's a dog.
03:01He's like, hello, Marsha.
03:02Where's the dog?
03:03Hi, where's the dog?
03:04Yeah.
03:04Okay.
03:04And what sort of reaction do you get with brother?
03:07What happens when he meets people?
03:09He doesn't behave.
03:10In what way?
03:11He gets very excited.
03:12Now, call him.
03:12He doesn't come.
03:23Okay, but you've got a lead on him.
03:24So he's got to come when you've got a lead on him.
03:29But not a lot more going to do.
03:30No, that's it.
03:31Not going to get that much bigger.
03:32Okay.
03:32I hope not.
03:33How do the people react?
03:34Because that's important in all of this.
03:36Well, they love him.
03:37How do they express that?
03:38Do they?
03:38Cuddles.
03:39They pick him up.
03:40Cuddles.
03:40They pick him up.
03:41Aha.
03:41So they actually elevate him off the ground.
03:43Mm-hmm.
03:43Right?
03:44Pick him up.
03:44Mm-hmm.
03:45Nurse him.
03:46Whisper sweet nothings?
03:47Yeah.
03:47And he kisses them back.
03:50So there's a pretty strong sort of bond going on here, isn't there?
03:53Okay.
03:53He's not stupid.
03:54No.
03:55But these little dogs are very smart little dogs.
03:56Too smart.
03:57They're very cunning.
03:58But what do you do in the meantime?
04:00How do you help control this problem?
04:01So as much as possible, you've got to try and say,
04:04okay, Dr. Harry said to me that when he jumps up on some elderly people
04:09or very young people, right, we could have a problem.
04:11So please don't pat him or pick him up.
04:14So I want me to say g'day.
04:15So just let him be?
04:16Yeah.
04:16You control him on the lead, right?
04:18You've got some control on the lead.
04:19When he's off the lead, we'll talk about that in a minute.
04:21That's a different situation.
04:22But try and control the dog on the lead and try and control the people.
04:26Okay.
04:27Because they are making the problem worse.
04:29They are.
04:29Let's take a seat down every hour.
04:31I've discussed the dog.
04:32I want to discuss Marsha.
04:33That's it?
04:33Good.
04:34Good boy.
04:36Sit.
04:36Now then.
04:37Marsha, you've been around in this industry forever.
04:41I have.
04:42Forever.
04:42Over 50 years.
04:44I just don't know what to do with myself.
04:49My mother realized I was a musician from a very young age.
04:52She encouraged me.
04:53And then when I was 16, there was an audition specifically for black kids to come to Australia
04:59for Harry and Miller.
05:01Yeah.
05:01And I auditioned.
05:02And like nine days later, I was on a plane to Australia.
05:05Whatever goes around, comes around now, baby.
05:09Yeah.
05:12What's kept you going the whole time, you know, because...
05:15I love music.
05:16And, you know, so I'm doing Australian Idol now, and it's great to give something back
05:21no matter what you do.
05:22Yeah.
05:23And being a judge or an idol, I hope that I'm giving something back to the music industry.
05:29It's very important that you give something back in life.
05:32We who sing songs, we are storytellers.
05:36You have to go to a place when you sing that is a painful place sometimes, you know.
05:42And you sing that with so much emotion and so much real emotion, you know, not bull.
05:48I think Australian Idol is fascinating in the sense that around the world, it's a trusted
05:52brand.
05:53Yeah.
05:53And I think, you know, we tend to unearth some very good talent that are now relevant
05:58and hopefully will stay relevant for a while.
06:00All right.
06:00Well, we might find a place to go.
06:02Okay.
06:02Where we can try some practical demonstrations.
06:12And you've now got what I call a long lead, right?
06:16Ideally, in your backyard, it could be even longer still.
06:18But what we're going to do is try and get him to come on a recall.
06:21Now, you don't want to ruin your voice by yelling out over a whole lot of people.
06:25We've decided that your whistle is a bit of shh rather than a whistle, right?
06:29It's sad.
06:29So I've actually got a whistle.
06:30So this is a dog whistle, right?
06:32High frequency.
06:32Give it a blow for me.
06:34There you go.
06:35So over a crowded room.
06:37He can hear it.
06:37He will hear that.
06:38Even in a park?
06:39Even in a park situation, right?
06:40He will travel a long, long way.
06:42Okay.
06:43Now, most people who want their dog to come back to them simply call their name.
06:48So you'd say to him, brother, brother.
06:50And he'd go.
06:51He's looking.
06:52Oh, hang on a minute.
06:53Last time you said brother, I was running away.
06:55So I'll just keep running away because you said the same thing last time, right?
06:58Okay.
06:58So that's no good.
06:59Okay.
07:00You've got to prefix it by saying the word come.
07:02Okay.
07:03So it's come, brother, and then I'd blow the whistle.
07:05And eventually we'd just get back to the whistle.
07:06So it's a gradual process of come, brother, whistle, and eventually come, whistle, and then
07:13just whistle over time.
07:15So I've got some treats on that table, right?
07:18Brother, come.
07:20Sit.
07:21Sit.
07:23Good.
07:27Now, I'm going to give you a treat, and we're going to reverse the situation.
07:32Okay.
07:32Go again.
07:33Come, brother.
07:37Sit.
07:40Good boy.
07:42Ta-da!
07:44He's a good guy.
07:45Whoops-a-dais.
07:47Smart, too.
07:48Well, I'll tell you what.
07:48That is great.
07:50You are going through to the final two.
07:52Oh, thank you so much.
07:53Just you and I.
07:55Thank you, Harry.
07:56Hey, well done.
07:56Thank you so much.
07:57She's not only a great performer.
07:58That was really good.
07:59She's a great dog trainer as well.
08:00On that note, I'm out of here because I can't sing it over.
08:04And I've got to go to work.
08:10If there is one thing you must do in life, put it on your bucket list.
08:13Come to Rotorua to see these amazing geysers.

08:57This segment is brought to you by Norwegian Cruise Line.
09:02Set sail aboard Norwegian Spirit, where grown-up getaways begin.
09:13You know, it's so easy to take what's right on our doorstep for granted, isn't it?
09:18But when we have such a good friend and neighbour as New Zealand, it's definitely time to drop
09:23in.
09:33For the next two weeks on Better Homes and Gardens, I'm taking you on a voyage around
09:38this beautiful country.
09:40And it all starts right here in Auckland.
09:49Well, it's all happening down here on the dock.
09:52There are passengers excited to get on board and there are taxis coming and going.
09:57Isn't she magnificent?
09:58This is the beautiful Norwegian Spirit.
10:01She's part of the Norwegian Cruise Line.
10:04And she's back in these local waters for her third visit, simply because Aussies and Kiwis
10:10really want to explore their very own backyard.
10:14This is the way to do it.
10:18How about this?
10:19From the top deck, everyone is looking at the view.
10:21And the captain is steering this beautiful ship right out into the main channel in the
10:26middle of a race and the yachts are going past.
10:28It's quite incredible to see it.
10:30It is going to be one heck of a cruise.
10:36When the ship stops off in Tauranga, it opens up a whole world of attractions, like Rotorua's
10:43hot springs.
10:51You must come to Rotorua when you visit New Zealand.
10:54And this is one of the greatest wonders, natural wonders of the world.
10:59Taipuya.
11:05Oh, Neela, this is an incredible, internationally recognised, fabulous tourist attraction.
11:12But in fact, it's more important to the local Maori people.
11:15Absolutely.
11:15It's a beacon not only for our people, but our culture as well.
11:18Sometimes we forget that this is our backyard and that we have, it's a privilege really.
11:22There's so much activity.
11:23There's thermal activity.
11:25Yes.
11:25Can you explain to me just what's happening?
11:28So we're actually all along a fault line.
11:30And all of the steam we see coming out, that's where all of the geothermal activity is able
11:35to escape.
11:35Silica build up, so it crystallises over time from the geys of water.
11:39Right.
11:39And it's the grey.
11:40And the yellow, of course, the beautiful aroma that's our sulphur.
11:44Underground, we have a legend.
11:46We have a legacy that we'd like to continue with two fire sisters, Te Pupu and Te Hoata.
11:50Uh-huh.
11:51The two fire sisters were caught out by their brother Ngata Roirangi, from Taupo, so just
11:55outside of Rotorua.
11:56Uh-huh.
11:56He needed help.
11:57They travelled from Hualaiki underground.
12:00Everywhere they popped up for a break is where our geothermal is to this day.
12:04It's the same as Aboriginal culture in Australia, isn't it?
12:07Yes.
12:07Yep, similar.
12:07It's this great connection to the earth.
12:09Yep.
12:09Spiritual connection to the earth.
12:11Whoa, look what's happening behind us.
12:13Yes.
12:14So does she have a name?
12:15She does.
12:16So our main guiser, the one just starting to erupt now, is Pōhutu.
12:19Pōhutu translates to the big splash.
12:22Pōhutu's the largest guiser in the Southern Hemisphere, the fourth largest in the world.
12:27Wow.
12:27When Pōhutu reaches full eruption, she gets to the height of about 30 to 40 metres.
12:32Wow.
12:40So yeah, so these ones are shallow.
12:43I'm not noticing the smell this time.
12:46Not as strong.
12:48Not as strong.
12:49Must be a local now, eh?
12:55This is what the locals call the Blueys.
12:58So actually our local swimming pool.
13:00Oh no.
13:01Yes, absolutely.
13:02So lucky, eh?
13:02It must be so hot.
13:03It only sits at about 20 to 30 degrees Celsius.
13:07Oh.
13:07So after 5.30, all of our local kids come down, jump off the geyser terrace into the beautiful
13:12blue waters.
13:13Wow.
13:14Swimming hole, who would have thought?
13:15So this is a really interesting spot.
13:18But I just can't believe we're actually surrounded by Pahutakawa, the metrasidras, the kiwi Christmas
13:25tree that we all know in Australia.
13:26Yeah, even the manuka itself has a bit of a meaning or deep meaning to us people.
13:31Right.
13:31All of the oils from the manuka step into the mud, giving it antiseptic uses, so healing properties
13:36again, the mud.
13:37So obvious, you know, manuka honey, you know, we know that leptospermum, it's a tea tree.
13:43And here, all those minerals going into the water.
13:47Oh, I want to go for a swim.
13:49Getting 20 years of my life.
13:57And here at Tapuya, you'll also be treated to many other fascinating windows on Maori culture.
14:27Here we have the first ever national wood carving school.
14:30Wow.
14:31Yes.
14:31So all of our students come from all over Aotearoa to come to our kura or our school here
14:36in Te Puia to study the art and carving.
14:39They also have the choice to go stone and bone carving afterwards or to study weaving as
14:43well.
14:49And of course, all the carvings at the back and the power shell for eyes.
14:53Here's the power of the abalone.
14:55So delicacy seafood here in Aotearoa.
15:03Thank you for the memories.
15:05It's been beautiful.
15:10Coming up, our cruise continues down the east coast of the North Island.

16:40Grab your copy of Better Homes and Gardens magazine for practical tips on cooking for less.
16:50When we describe a dish as a curry, we think about a warm, hearty meal.
16:56But this particular dish that my mother taught me is a prawn yoghurt and tomato curry.
17:02And it's fresh, it's delicious and it's light.
17:09First things first, let's start with the paste.
17:13Here I've got three large ginger slices into the blender.
17:20Then I've got the white part of the lemongrass, three garlic cloves, and two large onions.
17:44Let's have a look.
17:46Okay, that's nice and finely ground.
17:52I'll put that aside and we're going to now start with the tomatoes.
17:57Here I've got four Roma tomatoes.
18:05Use all of them.
18:07And what I'm doing is I'm going to chop them roughly into cubes.
18:21Once you make the curry paste, everything else comes together.
18:24The curry paste and the spices is what makes the curry.
18:29And it's very easy and very actually economical to make.
18:34Now, what we need to do is prep the prawns.
18:37Here I've got about a kilo of prawns.
18:40I'm going to leave the shell of the prawn because it actually gives a lot of flavour to the curry
18:47sauce.
18:47So, how I prep this is I cut the middle of the body like so.
18:56And then grab a knife and slice it just halfway through the flesh.
19:06Get rid of any nasties in there.
19:09And I leave the heads on because, again, the heads do give a beautiful depth to the curry paste.
19:21Okay, time to cook the prawns.
19:25A big, big glug of oil.
19:29The paste needs to temper in the oil.
19:32It needs to caramelise.
19:33That is one of the most crucial parts of making a curry.
19:51You don't want it to burn really quickly.
19:53You want it to cook low and slow for a little while.
19:58While that's simmering away, I'm going to make my curry paste.
20:03Here I've got about two tablespoons of curry powder.
20:11Tiny bit of water.
20:17Just until it becomes like a thick sort of paste consistency.
20:24Here we go.
20:30Okay, I almost, almost forgot the pandan.
20:34Now, pandan is a leaf that a lot of Southeast Asian cooking use in their dishes.
20:42It's used like vanilla.
20:45It does have a beautiful aroma to it.
20:48And depending if you put salt or sugar, it sweetens the smell or it makes it a little bit more
20:55savoury.
20:56It's a very magical leaf, this one.
21:01Okay, now that the paste is nicely caramelised, I'm going to add my curry powder or curry paste.
21:10Give it a stir for a few seconds.
21:15Until it all combines.
21:21Tomatoes in.
21:29I'm going to add some water to that.
21:35Hover it.
21:36Put it on a low heat.
21:38And let it simmer for at least two minutes.
21:44Let's have a look here.
21:48Okay, I'm going to start seasoning it now.
21:52Here I've got some soy sauce.
21:55A dash.
21:57Fish sauce.
21:58Couple of dashes.
22:00Salt.
22:05Sugar.
22:14I'm going to add the prawns and if I need to add anything else, I'll do it after the prawns
22:19has been cooked.
22:35Just push them down into the sauce.
22:42I'm going to cover that.
22:44Turn it up to a medium heat and then leave it for a minute or two.
22:50Okay, that's looking pretty good.
22:56Next is my yoghurt.
23:05About two tablespoons of yoghurt.
23:10I'm going to mix it in a little bit.
23:15A way to know whether the prawns are ready is when the flesh has split in the middle.
23:22And I'm just looking and I can see that split.
23:26I'm going to taste it.
23:35I believe it's done.
23:37This prawn tomato yoghurt curry is best served with a warm bowl of steaming rice.
23:43And while it may not look too pretty, it is pretty damn delicious.
24:00Coming up, Graeme stepping off into one of New Zealand's best kept secrets.
24:05Graeme, welcome to Napier.
24:08And Melissa finds a suburb where the commute doesn't feel like a trip to Mars.
24:13Somewhere to work, rest and play.
24:22This segment is brought to you by VIEW.

24:31As our cities grow and we build more and more shops and factories and houses,
24:35precious open space tends to disappear.
24:38But one council is working against the tide to make our inner city suburbs
24:42a little bit like a chocolate bar.
24:44Somewhere to work, rest and play.
24:50I'm in Brunswick, about five kilometres from the Bourke Street Mall in the heart of Melbourne,
24:55where Marybeth Council have started this great program
24:58where they basically buy blocks of land
25:00and then transform them into beautiful open spaces like this.
25:03And it's all funded through a program called A Park Close to Home
25:07with contributions from developers.
25:09And it's just one of the things that makes Brunswick such a popular place to live.
25:21The spine bringing all of the elements of Brunswick together is Sydney Road,
25:25which was named 175 years ago
25:28because it is quite literally the road to Sydney.
25:30And it's full of lots of unique shops and murals and funky bars
25:35where you can catch live music almost every night.
25:38And it really is a reflection of the amazing cultural diversity
25:42that's become such a feature of this area.
25:44So you'll find everything from Mediterranean grocers
25:46to clothing stores to Lebanese and Turkish restaurants.
25:57And then there's this place, DuJour Jeans,
26:00where Nam Huyen has been creating custom jeans since 1989.
26:06Nam, hi!
26:08Hi, how are you?
26:09What a great shop you've got here.
26:12So you came here straight from Vietnam.
26:14Tell me a little bit about your journey.
26:16How did you get started here?
26:32You know, when it comes to jean shopping,
26:35it can be a lengthy exercise, can't it?
26:38Because there isn't a jean that fits everybody.
26:40That's right, yep.
26:42They like all the jeans out of print.
26:44They don't do alteration like me.
26:47So you make them perfect to fit everybody.
26:50Yep, yep.
26:54Just like the diverse residents
26:56that have gravitated towards Brunswick,
26:58there's also a huge range of properties available.
27:00So I've called on Jonathan West from Nelson Alexander
27:03to give me the inside scoop on the suburb.
27:06So, Jonathan, you've been doing this a long time.
27:09Yeah, more than 25 years, Melissa.
27:11Oh, gosh, so you would have really seen some changes.
27:13How are you finding that it's developed over the years?
27:15Well, it used to be an older generational area,
27:18but now what's happened is all the young families
27:20and young couples and professional couples
27:22are all looking to get into the area
27:24and they've been here for many years.
27:26So it's become the place to be.
27:27Absolutely.
27:28When I was going through view.com.au,
27:30there really is, like, quite a diverse range of homes
27:33and apartments in this area.
27:34So you've got your traditional single-fronted two-bedroom homes,
27:37which seems to be in abundance.
27:39Then you've got your larger renovated homes,
27:41like Barclay Street here.
27:42And then you've got your apartment blocks
27:44and the townhouses as well.
27:46So what sort of price point do you think this will go for?
27:48Well, we've been estimating this home
27:50to be in the range of $1.85 to $2 million.
27:52Comparable sales in the last three to six months
27:55have been in that range.
27:56Some have been well above.
27:58So with such a diverse range of properties on the market,
28:00it's worth knowing what you can afford.
28:02It is indeed.
28:03I was, again, looking through the view.com.au app.
28:06And I love that there's a borrowing power calculator.
28:09So I went to Tools for Your Journey,
28:11and then all you have to do is put in a bit of information,
28:14so not much, a little bit about me,
28:16some financials, expenses,
28:18and out pops the amount that roughly you can borrow.
28:21And I love that.
28:22I agree.
28:22I think this app doesn't take all your personal information,
28:26but it gives you real-time information.
28:27You can find out really quickly
28:29and understand if you can afford a certain property or not.
28:31So that's brilliant.
28:32You can use it on-site.
28:33You can indeed.
28:42There's another great development in Brunswick
28:44with a very different style of housing,
28:46and it's proving to be very popular.
28:53Hi, Toby.
28:54Hi, Melissa.
28:54How are you?
28:55I'm good.
28:56Got your chai here for you.
28:57Perfect.
28:57You're a good man.
28:59I tell you what,
29:00this is quite an amazing community,
29:02and it's part of a collection of buildings,
29:04so tell me a little bit about Nightingale Housing.
29:06Yeah, sure.
29:07Nightingale Housing are a registered charity,
29:09and we deliver housing that's socially,
29:11financially, environmentally sustainable.
29:1320% of our homes are sold to community housing providers,
29:16so they're rented out at affordable rates and things like that.
29:19We have an incredible green power situation here,
29:22so we get reduced energy costs,
29:24and because the homes are highly sustainable,
29:27they cost minimal to heat and cool.
29:29We're based in Brunswick,
29:30but we're kind of doing a lot of projects around Australia.
29:32And I can already see some of the benefits of living here.
29:35Yeah, I mean, there's many.
29:36I mean, this is one of them,
29:38as is being close to the train line
29:40and living in a community that care about each other
29:43and sustainability.
29:44I'd love you to show me what's going on upstairs.
29:46Yeah, I'd love to show you.
29:47Let's go.
29:47Oh, wow, look at this.
29:56Yeah, it's pretty amazing.
29:57So this is the kind of burnery or light well
29:59that all of these bedrooms look out on too.
30:01It's a pretty special part of the building.
30:03And you can feel the coolness coming off it.
30:05Yeah, it really does do a great job at cooling everyone down.
30:12Welcome to my home, Melissa.
30:14This is a typical Nightingale apartment,
30:16and this is a one-bedroom home.
30:18So I tell you what, for a one-bed art,
30:19this just feels really spacious.
30:21It does, doesn't it?
30:21It feels generous.
30:23I love the stripped-back materials
30:24and the way they give the building a really industrial look.
30:28Hmm.
30:28It's industrial, it's reductionist,
30:30and it also means that it's easy to care for and maintain.
30:33So it's a compact home, but you can work from home,
30:35you can have a dinner party,
30:37all those things can work easily.
30:43Well, welcome to the rooftop, Melissa.
30:45This is incredible.
30:46You can see the Dandenongs over to the Yu Yangs from up here.
30:49It's pretty special.
30:50And what I like is that for a rooftop,
30:52you've got some serious play space here
30:54as well as these beautiful plant areas.
30:56Yeah, we've got the beautiful grass,
30:58we've got planted spaces,
30:59and then further down the rooftop,
31:01we've got laundries, dining spaces,
31:05cooking, and bathhouses as well.
31:07Gosh, I really love the feel of this building,
31:09so thank you so much for inviting us into your home.
31:12It gives me hope for the future of buildings, really.
31:15It gives us hope.
31:16We're really proud to build buildings like this.
31:21Well, we started our journey in one beautiful shared space
31:24and we ended up in another one.
31:26I really enjoyed showing you around Brunswick
31:28and seeing how the community are working together
31:30to create a really inclusive, diverse suburb
31:33with a great vibe.
31:36The owners here have been complaining about their drawers.
31:39Apparently, they're hard to open.
31:41Well, that's not going to work, is it?
31:43So let's take a closer look and see what the problem is.
31:46Jeepers.
31:46Imagine how annoying that would be
31:47every time you go to get a spoon out.
31:54Rollers.
32:01Ah, and then luck would have it.
32:03I think we found our culprit right there.
32:05Get this.
32:06Look at that.
32:09And that is it.
32:10So what has happened, I'm guessing, over time,
32:13these drawers are going in and out
32:15and the vibration has loosened this screw
32:17and this cover plate has obviously fallen off,
32:19gone at the back of the drawers
32:21and that's why this is coming in and out.
32:23So to fix it up,
32:24I'll simply pick up the screw that I dropped
32:25and I'll put this cover plate back on and screw it in.
32:28If you don't have this plate at the back of your carcass
32:31like we did,
32:32you can actually just go buy it as a spare part.
32:43Okay, look at that.
32:45That face is not going anywhere.
32:47Now, before I put all these drawers back in place,
32:49because they have the old rollers in,
32:51it's a good idea to clean them up and get rid of all the dust
32:54and then I'll be spraying the rollers
32:56with a multi-purpose lubricant
32:57that doesn't attract dust.
33:00I've been doing a fair bit of cleaning, haven't I?
33:04Hopefully this doesn't become a common occurrence.
33:31I could stand here all day just operating those drawers.
33:46Oh, that is so much better.
33:48Now, every time you go to get something out of the cutlery drawer,
33:51you're not going to get frustrated.
33:52Such an easy job.
33:56Coming up on our New Zealand cruise adventure,
33:58we're heading to the Art Deco capital, Napier.

34:17Find out the ground covers and climbing plants
34:19that provide great value and look fantastic.
34:22Plus, I'll share practical tips on growing pear trees
34:25with delicious recipes to make with your harvest.
34:28Grab this month's magazine for low-cost gardening inspiration.
34:31And don't forget your chance to win a million dollars.
34:40This segment is brought to you by Norwegian Cruise Line.
34:44Set sail aboard Norwegian Spirit,
34:47where grown-up getaways begin.
34:54As coastlines go, New Zealand is truly spectacular.
34:59We have arrived at our second port of call,
35:02the beautiful town of Gisborne.
35:04As for our home away from home, the Norwegian Spirit,
35:07I bet you're keen to find out what else is on board.
35:10So let's go and have a look.
35:18Abbey, your badge says cruise director.
35:20That has got to be a huge job.
35:22It is quite a big job for being in a hotel department.
35:25Yeah, well, it is like a floating hotel.
35:27So how many people do you actually look after on the boat?
35:29So for guests, we've got 2,000, around 2,000 people
35:32with about 900 crew.
35:34Wow.
35:34And all of us come from different countries.
35:37I've seen that, different backgrounds.
35:38Now, this pool, how cool is this?
35:41Yes.
35:43They're all having a great time.
35:45It's not the only pool on the ship.
35:47No, this is not the only.
35:48But this is the main pool with the hot tubs and all.
35:50But then at the back, we do have an area for only the grown-ups.
35:54Uh-huh, okay.
35:55So also, we don't have water slides,
35:57and we don't have Kids Club as well on board.
35:59So it is, again, it is very curated for the adults.
36:02One of the things that I've noticed, and I'm sure you have too,
36:05Aussies and Kiwis seem to be really keen
36:07to be travelling around their own backyard.
36:09That's right.
36:10And also, in 2026 until 2027,
36:13we will be, well, Norwegian spirits.
36:15Yes.
36:15We are going to go back and forth, Auckland and Sydney,
36:18and we're doing all these beautiful islands as well.
36:20And there's also shorter cruises,
36:22just to experience cruising.
36:25Yeah.
36:26Think about it on this different night on the line.
36:30Wow.
36:31This is the way to travel?
36:35That's right, yeah.
36:36You have to leave in the rest of the most of the time.
36:40It's all happening here.
36:41Yes.
36:41This must be the heart of the ship, Abby, isn't it?
36:44That's right.
36:44That's right.
36:45This is the atrium.
36:46I guess it looks very posh,
36:48but in fact, it's very understated elegance, isn't it?
36:51That's right.
36:52So, again, this is where, like, the game shows happen.
36:55Music, live music up in the Magnums as well.
36:57Oh, nice.
36:57So, if you want to relax and have a bottle or a glass of champagne.
37:01Yeah, yeah.
37:01Now, I know you take your food very seriously on this ship.
37:04That's right.
37:04We have 14 restaurants, complementary and specialty.
37:08We have the French restaurant, Italian restaurant, steakhouse.
37:12Hey, I love the steakhouse.
37:13Yes, steakhouse.
37:14And also the Asian restaurant.
37:16They're covering everything on this ship.
37:21In the evening, everything will light up.
37:24We have the shows in the theater.
37:25Yes.
37:26You'll see live music and also parties, game shows, you name it.
37:30If you want to work out, we do have a fitness center.
37:32And also, if you want to relax, the spa is there.
37:35You can just take in the ocean view and just relax.
37:38This is definitely the cruise ship you want to be on.
37:41It has everything.
37:48In fact, there are lots of different staterooms and cabin styles.
37:52It's your choice.
37:53And look at this view.
37:54Yep, that is beautiful.
38:00Well, another day, another adventure.
38:03And it's Kia ora.
38:04That's like g'day and welcome to the famous Hawke's Bay region and the legendary city of Napier.
38:12Here in the heart of town, there's lots of seaside charm and character.
38:17But did you know that Napier is also one of the world's leading Art Deco capitals?
38:26Oh, Graeme, welcome to Napier.
38:29Tony.
38:29Great to see you, sir.
38:31You too.
38:31You're looking very spiffy.
38:32This car must be the most Art Deco car I've ever come across.
38:35What is it?
38:36It's a beauty car, Graeme.
38:37This car is a 1940 Packard built in Detroit, USA.
38:41Wow, it's a real treasure.
38:44It is a treasure, Graeme.
38:45As is your beautiful city.
38:47How did this Art Deco come about in your city?
38:50Well, Graeme, Art Deco really came about by accident because in February 1931, there were
38:57two massive earthquakes and the town behind you was destroyed by the earthquakes or by
39:03fires that subsequently followed.
39:06So these buildings that we are looking at are built of reinforced concrete.
39:10Ah.
39:11And the people at the time felt that this will withstand future earthquakes.
39:16Well, and it certainly stood the test of time.
39:19But what about this building behind us?
39:21Oh, Graeme, the building behind you is the TNG Insurance Building with that iconic dome
39:26and clock on the top.
39:28Beautiful.
39:28Now, can we go for a spin in this beautiful girl?
39:30Let's do it.
39:35Wow.
39:37It's like being in your nana's sofa.
39:49Here we've got the Masonic Hotel, a beautiful building.
39:52In fact, when this was built, this Art Deco particular version here was the most expensive
39:57building when this was constructed.
40:00Oh, really?
40:07Baby Telegraph, Graeme, a real icon in Napier.
40:11All of these buildings were built within two years of the earthquake.
40:15They're ahead of their time.
40:16They were indeed.
40:21Yes, the mission, 1851.
40:38This is the Mission Estate Winery, oldest winery in the British Commonwealth.
40:44Wow.
40:44Thank you, Tony.
40:45Great to meet you, young Graeme.
40:47You too.
40:47Have a wonderful, wonderful day.
40:49You too, my friend.
40:59Oh, Alex, you must have known I was thirsty.
41:02Yeah, we've got a local Chardonnay for you.
41:05I know.
41:05That should quench my thirst.
41:07Yeah.
41:09Oh, it's got a lovely flavour.
41:13So, I think it showcases the diversity of what we can do here in Hawke's Bay.
41:17We're not just Sauvignon Blanc, we can do Chardonnays, Syrahs, Cabernet Sauvignons.
41:21Hawke's Bay is one of the hottest regions in New Zealand, allowing us to ripen a wide
41:27variety of different grapes.
41:28And, of course, it was all started way back in the 1800s.
41:31Obviously, when the missionaries came here, what were they producing then?
41:34Well, they brought grapevines with them, but that was so that they could make wine for
41:39sacramental purposes.
41:40Ah, right.
41:41So, of course, the Hawke's Bay region is now one of the wine capitals of the world.
41:45Yes, Hawke's Bay is officially recognised as a great wine capital, right alongside Bordeaux,
41:51Burgundy, the Napa Valley.
41:52Well done.
41:54God's work.
41:55Well done.
41:56Fantastic.
41:57Well, keep watching because we have heaps more stories coming up for you as we continue
42:02our amazing voyage around New Zealand.
42:04Next week, we're heading to Wellington and the South Island.
42:08See you then.
42:12Wowzers.
42:13It sure looks like Graeme scored the toughest assignment on the show this week.
42:16But after 33 seasons working on it, that man deserved it.
42:20Visiting vineyards and cruising through New Zealand.
42:23Absolutely glorious.
42:24Although, to be honest, I can't complain about my location either.
42:27We hope you've enjoyed the show and I'll see you again soon for more Better Homes and Gardens.
42:31Bye-bye.
42:35Tomorrow night...
