00:00And Justine going down high on the face, and Winter nearly completing the whole run.
00:04Winter will be leading the crashers currently.
00:07As we go back up, hoping for no more of that, Zoe Del Zappo riding out of La Clousa, 20
00:15years old, part of the rise of the rookie in Ski Women this year.
00:19She has been incredible, standing on a podium in her very first freeride world tour event.
00:24She's going to be looking to replicate that here in her first time ever down a huge Alaskan face.
00:31Zoe making her way past.
00:33We've got the snowboard men up there acting as ski ninjas, and the ski men up there getting ready for
00:39their big day here in Alaska.
00:40Zoe making her way down the ridge.
00:43Nice to get the blood pumping as you move across the top of the ridge here, Derek, and just land
00:47on your skis before dropping in to this monster face.
00:52All right, so there's the wave that's indicating to the judges.
00:55That's where she is going to drop in.
00:58You can see the spine feature, and Zoe launching right off it immediately, taking an aggressive approach on the upper
01:04section of this face.
01:06She is looking good, Derek.
01:08Big, strong turns, super strong, coming down through this section.
01:13Snow's blowing up everywhere.
01:14Lining up into the nose off of this one.
01:20Oh, this is a big one.
01:22Zoe Delzoppo stomping that.
01:25Now she's got to manage this speed, but really clever because it's a flatter part of the venue.
01:30Not flat by any stretch, but slightly flatter.
01:33So it gives her an opportunity to get that speed wrangled in and get herself back in control because there
01:38is plenty more action looming below her.
01:42Zoe flying off that one, too.
01:44So trademark aggression from the young French athlete.
01:48Super smart line, Derek.
01:50The way she managed that so brilliantly.
01:53And now moving into this, you can see the convexity of this roll.
01:56This is totally blind for these athletes as they roll into it.
01:58Does she look almost casual right now?
02:00She's in Alaska on an enormous face and just taking it all in stride.
02:05Zoe Delzoppo getting the speed under control.
02:07Like you said, Katie, it pitches over, and it gets so steep so quickly.
02:11Another big air holding the fall line.
02:14Zoe now coming.
02:15Oh!
02:16And she goes sailing off the edge of that cliff.
02:20Zoe Delzoppo going down.
02:22But she's got both her skis on, so there's going to be a score.
02:25This is tricky for these ski women right now, Derek.
02:29They are managing so many different pieces on this face.
02:32And she's flying down through the bottom here, getting those glory turns, as you say.
02:37That is, that's crazy, the way it rolls over like that.
02:41And then the snow just changes so fast on them.
02:43You're doing one thing, and then all of a sudden, you're skiing a completely different kind of terrain.
02:47Or snow.
02:48Yeah.
02:48And Zoe, unfortunately, we'll see here the top of her run so aggressive, just sailing off this blade, clearing the
02:57rocks.
02:58Perfect connection into the transition.
03:00She looks so good on her skis.
03:02And this was massive.
03:04Look at that.
03:05Boom!
03:06Lacing it.
03:06Having the room on the apron to run the speed out, get herself back into control.
03:12And then we see, this is the upper section again.
03:15This is where things got a little hairy.
03:17She landed this beautifully.
03:19She's managing the speed.
03:20The speed gets a little out of control.
03:22And she made, she had to turn there, or she would have launched to the moon off that next perfect
03:29flat deck takeoff.
03:30But by putting her skis sideways, unfortunately, she wasn't able to hold the pressure.
03:34And she went down, actually falling off a corner of that cliff.
03:37The last drop she hit, Derek, you could see just how steep it was and just how steep the run
03:42out was.
03:43Managing speed down through that to line up that bottom hit is not an easy feat.
03:49It's so difficult.
03:51It's so difficult.
03:51And I think we just, we have to keep refreshing our minds here on how hard this is for these
03:58riders.
03:59Fifty-eight, six, seven, four, Zoe Del Zappo.
04:03So, this is kind of wild to say because Zoe looks like she's pretty rad.
