00:00Hi, nice to meet you. Hello.
00:06In Cannes 2019 you said that everybody should say at least once in their life
00:12I've crossed oceans of time to find you. Do you agree with yourself and why?
00:19Well, it's a lovely thing, isn't it?
00:22You know, it's a wonderful thing to say, especially if you mean it.
00:28When did I say that? 1919?
00:30Yeah, when you did the masterclass.
00:32Oh, I said everybody should at least say it once.
00:35Yeah, well, I got to say it, so I consider myself very lucky.
00:44Have you said it?
00:47Yeah, once in my life, yeah. So I'm lucky.
00:52Another line of one of your famous characters is
00:55if you want to know what a man's like, take a good look at how he treats his inferiors, not
01:00his equals, his serious black.
01:02Do you agree with him?
01:04That's a serious black line, is it?
01:05Yeah.
01:09Yeah, I'd probably agree with that. Yeah, absolutely.
01:12Of course, if you're watching Slow Horses, that's, that's, he's certainly, my character in that Jackson Lamb certainly doesn't live
01:23by that sentiment, but yeah, I would agree with that.
01:26Did you ever felt invisible? Invisible is the theme of this year's Gifoni, and do you believe that heart can
01:34help us to not feel invisible anymore?
01:38Well, I know that certainly in my earlier years, you know, we've, I mean, we've all felt it in some
01:45way or another.
01:46I was saying earlier that, you know, there are, there are a few people I've met who've said that, oh,
01:52I had a great childhood and my mum and dad are still together and it was all really wonderful and
01:56great.
01:56And there's, oftentimes, I certainly as a kid felt invisible, and you retreat, you, you imagine, you dream, you know,
02:07and that's what I did.
02:09I just would stare at the moon and wasn't particularly very good at school because I was never listening, and
02:15I was always in a sort of, my fantasy, always in my head.
02:21And really finding art or finding, discovering the arts, you know, brought me, made me visible, brought me out of
02:34my, out of my shell.
02:36So I would think it, I would think for anyone coming here and experiencing this, this group of people, you
02:48know, just socially, it getting confident with, with the kids, you know, with your peers, and, and then to be
02:59looking at film.
03:00And, yeah, I think, I think, I think that the festival here would very, very much change that for a
03:10lot of people.
03:10I played a lot of characters who, in a way, are invisible over the years.
03:16Great many of them.
03:18Thank you so much.
