00:00Non importa quanti caratteri che si tratta,
00:03persone ricordano i ragazzi.
00:19Molto ragazzo, molto ragazzo,
00:23facendo la cosa giusta.
00:29No, it was written in a different way.
00:35Again, it was written well,
00:36but it was much more formal
00:39and I think kind of aristocratic, regimental, posh,
00:46like the upper classes, you know?
00:48And when I read it, I thought...
00:53I went to them and said,
00:55how about if we flip it,
00:57make him working class,
00:59make him a really nice, gentle guy,
01:03very reasonable,
01:05like a teacher, you know,
01:07like a geography teacher or something,
01:09and so that he could communicate with them
01:14and they felt safe to communicate with him.
01:20Otherwise, if he was that guy, you know, that angry guy,
01:24they would just tell him to fuck off and walk away.
01:26I threw that at them and they went,
01:29yeah, that's a good idea.
01:30And then we just rolled with it
01:31and started playing with it.
01:33And to take dialogue out as much as possible,
01:36to let them have space to breathe
01:39and to watch each other and communicate with each other
01:44without speaking and which I know Killian likes to do.
01:47I like to do.
01:48And so, yeah, they were up for it.
01:51They were very, very much for it.
01:52Given your incredible career,
01:54you could easily teach a masterclass on how to play a great villain.
01:58What are your secrets to bringing those characters to life?
02:02Yeah, I mean, the weird thing is that it doesn't matter
02:05how many characters you play that are different,
02:08people remember bad guys.
02:11It's just, I guess that's the thing.
02:12It's so funny.
02:17I don't know how I would put it.
02:19I would, you know, I would say be nice.
02:26They come at you from, as we can see around the planet,
02:32they come at you from what they hope that you will perceive as a good place,
02:41a good heart, you know, and their whole aim is to manipulate you
02:46and to try and make you do what they want you to do
02:50and to feel that you arrived there yourself and that you are helping.
02:53and you're and it's the same old stuff
02:58from what was happening in the Second World War.
03:01My dad was in that war.
03:02So he took, you know, he talked often about
03:05people he'd experienced or he'd come across and had to fight
03:11and where they came from and who they were.
03:13When he would talk, he would talk about them.
03:18And so it's
03:23it's choosing where, I suppose, on the performance level,
03:26you choose where you want to communicate and where you want to shut down that communication,
03:30stuff like that.
03:31Both of those things can become scary to play with and that's fun.
03:34Last question.
03:35How was it for you to step into the world of Peaky Blinders for the first time?
03:39I've, yeah, I'd never, I'd never seen Peaky Blinders.
03:42I have never watched it and I'm going to watch it now.
03:46But I'm not the film, but the TV show.
03:49I'd like to see it.
03:50I enjoyed coming to it kind of blind in a sense.
03:53I enjoyed.
