00:00I mean, I was arguing to recast him when I came on to it.
00:04Joking, ovviamente.
00:05What was it like moving from the series to the movie?
00:09Did your approach to building the characters change in any way?
00:14Introducing new characters to Peaky is...
00:18It's something I've done often.
00:20You know, every series has had a new protagonist, a new baddie, if you like.
00:25And each one brings something different to the story.
00:30But it's a question of picking an actor, I think, that you know is going to get what we're after.
00:36It's that slightly heightened, the darkness is there, but there's also humour.
00:41So you always need someone who can do that.
00:43And we've got incredible Rebecca and Tim Roth as new additions were absolutely pitch perfect.
00:51But also Barry Keahan just is a walking Peaky Blinders character.
00:58You know, he's got to be in this show.
01:02And with Tim Roth, how do you create such a rich, complex villain when you only have two hours to
01:07tell his story?
01:08It's interesting what Steve says about, you know, these new characters coming into the world of Peaky Blinders.
01:13Happens throughout the series.
01:14And it always tends to attract these, because the writing's so good, incredible actors.
01:19And I think that's the same here.
01:21And the interesting thing about incredible actors is they come with incredible ideas and they can often surprise you as
01:26well.
01:26And I think that's true of Tim.
01:27He came and he had quite a clear idea about what he wanted to do with the villain, where it
01:32was the same, but slightly his through the lens that he wanted to bring to it.
01:36Which was, you know, as originally conceived, Beckett was upper class and quite steely and nasty.
01:44Whereas Tim wanted to make him lower class and very affable and nice and a bit like a geography teacher.
01:52And that actually is really, really scary.
01:55That's much scarier than I actually thought it would be.
01:58And that's the beautiful thing about working with other brilliant talent.
02:03It would have been possible to have Peaky Blinders without Killian Murphy?
02:08No, simple answer.
02:10Definitely not.
02:11He is the heart and soul of the show, the franchise, whatever you want to call it.
02:17And without him, we wouldn't have...
02:20I mean, I was arguing to recast him when I came on to it.
02:24Joking, obviously.
02:26Is it possible for a character like Tommy Shelby to find peace?
02:31Carlo has a line.
02:32The only way that Tommy Shelby will find peace is with a bullet.
02:35I don't know what Tom thinks.
02:38I mean, I think that's probably a good summation.
02:43Can you tell us something about the new Peaky Blinders season?
02:47I'm not allowed to talk about the content of them.
02:50I can tell you that we start shooting very soon and it's going to be great.
02:54And it's the same but different.
