00:00shall we delve into a little bit of uh players history maybe a little course history here to
00:05kind of set up some discussion all right so here's what i got for you so tbc sawgrass
00:08opened up in the fall of 1980 as mentioned a pete and alice die design first host of the
00:14players championship in 1982 and the player feedback was not great uh the the my favorite
00:19quotes from from uh the all the competitors that week ben crinshaw said it's star wars golf designed
00:25by darth vader um jack jack nicholas was asked if uh tbc sawgrass suge is playing style and he said
00:31no i've never been very good at stopping a five iron on the hood of a car uh and jc's
00:36he called
00:36the course 90 horse manure and 10 luck uh but the following year pete die goes back out there
00:43tweaks the course he makes the greens less severe replaces several bunkers and uh ben crinshaw
00:49followed up on his initial critique and said now it's a darn good golf course so there was some sort
00:53softening of the original design in 2007 i got a renovation where they added some irrigation
00:59to the fairways they put sub air in the greens so it could you know perform a little bit better
01:03when
01:03you have these wet conditions although still overseeding mud ball is still an issue no matter
01:08what season it's in uh and since the players returned back to march because it went from march
01:13to may back to march in 2019 your winners have been rory mcleroy in 2019 2020 was canceled because of
01:2019 2021 justin thomas 2022 cameron smith 23 and 24 both scotty scheffler and now rory mcleroy
01:28defends here uh this year after winning in 2025 big names man so two i mean scotty and rory both
01:34winning twice you know i kind of want to set that up before we delve into discussion about each but
01:38you know it feels like it does require that type of player to get this thing won i don't i
01:44disagree
01:45with that i think history before that when you go look at this event man you've had all types of
01:51winners win here you know what i mean like you've had players that unsuspecting coming into the week
01:57you know what uh gosh craig court is going back
02:00that's right
02:00you
