00:13Hello everybody, welcome to the show, this is Matt Barth, thanks to Haga, how good, great, glad you're with us,
00:19everybody gets to play this weekend, it's absolutely magnificent, huge show to come tonight to kick off the season proper,
00:26joining us behind the bar very, very shortly,
00:28the AFL CEO, Andrew Dillard, get around here, much better, and a man with one of the great CV's, he's
00:36got a massive announcement, he's got a massive announcement, he's coming on, any ideas what it might be about?
00:41I'm going to say, it's the twilight campaign, I'm just saying, I'm tipping it, could be a front bar exclusive,
00:48a man also joining us tonight with one of the great CV's in footy, at 34 years of age, he's
00:53still going very, very strong, Jack Gunston's going to join us on the show as well.
00:58Great story.
01:00Yeah, and there is some news, just in case you're at all interested, the drip tray is back a little
01:05bit later.
01:09I'm going to get ready.
01:11Are you sure?
01:13Massive.
01:13Hey, that's good.
01:13Is it any changes, or is it as per last year?
01:17Well, there's been, put it this way, there's some new questions, it's unrecognisable some of the, you know.
01:23A crease here and a crease there, something to look forward to?
01:25I don't know what that means, but anyway, it's good to be here, because it's been a...
01:30You've had a tough week, what happened?
01:32What's wrong?
01:32Well, you know, I'm not a big gambler, but I know, although according to you, culturally, you think I am,
01:39but I'm not...
01:43I'm just saying, I put a trifecta on last week, and it's just...
01:46Oh, your box trifecta?
01:47Yeah, it's just not looking good.
01:48How did it go?
01:49Well, it's just not looking good.
01:50I went with Carlton, Oscar Piastri, and Iran.
01:57I went with Carlton, and...
02:00See, we've got the tickets, mate.
02:02Oh, we'll just say, no, it's not over yet.
02:04No, it was all advice, the whole thing was all advice.
02:06I'll tell you, somebody who you should be having in the future, Campbell Responsibly, of course,
02:10but they were ominous on the weekend, the Gold Coast Suns.
02:13I mean, this has been coming, and they were a big spruit going into the season,
02:16but they were absolutely magnificent on the weekend.
02:19A great hit-out, first up, for the Suns, although a late injury, which hasn't been reported widely,
02:26which occurred immediately after the game, which may affect them.
02:30Here they are in the group.
02:32Gatorade shower, and...
02:36Have a look there, he's just crazy.
02:41He could be...
02:42It's good to be refreshed when you get concussed.
02:45No, he's not out of it.
02:46That's all I can say.
02:47There's a young Gatorade shower, a prison ride in there.
02:50That's unbelievable.
02:51Are they getting out of hand?
02:53Well, I think...
02:53I can't cop those things, but everyone seems to have a good time, so, you know, let boys be boys,
02:57and he is OK.
02:58Luckily, they've got another 42 first-round draft picks to choose from if he's out under protocols.
03:04And just in case they didn't have enough, they got this bloke from Melbourne who's got a pretty good record
03:07and a reasonable career, who went very, very nicely first up in the Gold Coast.
03:12Christian Petrarca, 30-plus disposals, three goals, four to centre, through the middle of the ground.
03:18He was back to his absolute best last night, and if this is a sign of what's to come from
03:23him,
03:24who knows where he might be able to take this team this year.
03:26I'll just say this.
03:28His spleen would have been proud of that guy.
03:32He was good.
03:34Back to his zero best.
03:35I'm sticking.
03:36I reckon it's good on Melbourne for getting rid of a bloke who's obviously got only six or seven good
03:40years left.
03:41You know what I mean?
03:43Gold Coast sounds, though, Murray.
03:45No, they were good.
03:45I think you said during the week that it's their premiership to lose.
03:48Well, I didn't quite say that.
03:50You said they'll go through undefeated.
03:51No, I didn't say that.
03:52I didn't say either of those things.
03:54Repeat.
03:55No, I didn't say that.
03:56Yeah, I'm sure you did.
03:57They will be hard to beat, and they may be in contention for the premiership at the end of the
04:01year,
04:01but there's a long way to go.
04:02Well, there you go.
04:03They dealt with Geelong.
04:04Yeah, they did.
04:05But everyone was happy to see Christian Petrarca back at his best.
04:09Well, of course, if you love your footy, you like seeing good players in good form.
04:12Couldn't agree more.
04:13That's our perspective.
04:14I don't think that after a 60-point loss that it's the best time to ask Geelong coach Chris Scott,
04:20though.
04:21He's a lover of the game.
04:23Are you sort of pleased to see him settle into his new home up here and play so well in
04:26Queensland especially?
04:27Yeah, rap for him.
04:28It's great.
04:33All right.
04:33Thanks a lot.
04:35All right.
04:36That's a big, big laugh.
04:38He's rap for him.
04:40Couldn't be happier.
04:41I'm rap for him.
04:42Couldn't be happier.
04:42You knew it was a spectacular result, because here's sights you don't see very often.
04:46Have a look at this couple.
04:47This is the soundest couple I've seen, Paul.
04:51Oh, well, long way back to Geelong.
04:53There it is.
04:54And there they are.
04:55Oh, that's just sad.
04:58Oh, well.
04:59Do you know what they are?
05:01They are, I'm going to tell you right now, the second saddest couple.
05:05Second?
05:06Of the night.
05:07Yeah.
05:07Have a go.
05:08There they go.
05:11Oh, no.
05:13Oh, no.
05:16I'm just checking his contracts there at Tasmanian Devil.
05:20Look at that lot.
05:21How uncomfortable.
05:23No.
05:24It wasn't good.
05:25No.
05:25About to realise he's got to go back to Geelong.
05:27Anyway, there you go.
05:28Hey, opening round, of course, done and dusted.
05:30Not everyone's cup of tea.
05:31Is it?
05:31I can't keep up.
05:32Not everyone's cup of tea.
05:34Is it done?
05:34You're a fan of it?
05:35Is it opening round?
05:36Opening round?
05:36Oh, I love going out for dinner and having an entree and then the waiter bringing me
05:40my main a week later.
05:43Are you a fan of opening round?
05:44What do you think?
05:44I do love opening round.
05:46I specifically love the opening game and I specifically love the third quarter.
05:51Here it is.
05:52Oh, yeah.
05:52This is, it's back, people.
05:55This is what we've been waiting for.
05:58That came round a bit quick, didn't it, lads?
06:02Welcome back.
06:02Buckle up.
06:03It's going to be a long year.
06:06I have a listen.
06:07Oh, that is fantastic.
06:10It is a bit tough.
06:10It is a bit tough when your team has had more losses than there are rounds, Murray.
06:15Is that fair or not?
06:17And good to see the Coen players finally hitting Charlie Curnow on the chest.
06:24After all this time.
06:26All right.
06:26Well, I think that's a bit of an overreaction, Murray.
06:29I like to stay positive.
06:31A lot of teams will lose to City this year.
06:33They will, particularly up there.
06:34That's a very good point.
06:35They're a good side.
06:36Tough scenes to watch and a disappointed Carlton.
06:38Posse asked if they could go via Dubai on the way home.
06:46Mate, let's throw to this clip.
06:47No, there weren't.
06:47Let's throw to this clip.
06:48It's going via Dubai, by the way.
06:49Tough scenes to watch, all right.
06:51So it's for us to watch.
06:52But it was a disappointed Carlton team that returned to Melbourne Airport the next day.
06:56This caught a lot of people's eye.
06:57Harry Mackay there with a pillow.
07:01Yep.
07:02Which I think sleep's very important, Murray.
07:04It was only a two-hour flight, but somehow we got eight hours sleep.
07:09What is that?
07:11Well, we lost, but we got...
07:16Contested napping is very important in a modern game, Murray.
07:19That's all I'll say.
07:19So, yeah, good pillow's very important.
07:22No, it is.
07:22It's not ever.
07:23Well, he was asleep for most of the second round.
07:27No, good night's sleep is very important.
07:28He should have used it to smother his opponent.
07:30That might have helped him get on the ball.
07:34It is unbelievable.
07:35A good pillow is important.
07:37It is.
07:37Although, this is the one thing I would say.
07:39I don't think you should be using it during the game.
07:41What?
07:41That's all I'll say.
07:42You should be using it during the game.
07:49We'll be fine.
07:51Murray?
07:52We'll be fine.
07:53No, we'll be all right.
07:54Don't worry about that.
07:55Tomorrow night is going to bling his blankie as well.
07:59His little booties.
08:00Speaking of tomorrow night, it is the start of round one, of course,
08:03and the traditional round one opener is the MCG.
08:06We're all going.
08:07There we go.
08:08There'll be upwards of 80,000 there tomorrow night
08:12I'd like to see Richmond take on the Blue Bags.
08:14We're all going.
08:14And you're there in an official, you're working, aren't you?
08:17I am.
08:17I'm calling the game, yep, for Blues Radio tomorrow night.
08:21Everyone bring your pillows.
08:23No, no.
08:24Blues Radio tomorrow night on the SEN app, of course,
08:26thanks to the good people at Booper, myself and Cooter and Ange
08:32and Sam Edmund will be there with a Blues Bias call,
08:34and we've had some fun with this.
08:36You know, it'd be good.
08:36You should get Sam Doherty to ring in.
08:40No, we don't.
08:41No, it's just you, Sam, the week off, I reckon.
08:43How are you feeling about tomorrow night?
08:45Two words.
08:46Percentage booster.
08:49Look, obviously it's a bit alarming running into a rampaging Carlton outfit.
08:55I don't know.
08:56I'll see how it happens.
08:57You're unlucky to get us after a loss.
09:00Congratulations.
09:02I wanted to be sincere for a second.
09:04Congratulations to all the kids, by the way,
09:06who are going to make their taboo over the weekend.
09:08Oh, and it's a dream.
09:09Yeah, well, all the young kids are down there.
09:14My word.
09:14A dream come true to be drafted.
09:16My word is, yeah.
09:17And, like I said, a dream come true to be drafted,
09:19and you can see it from the smiles on the young kids' faces
09:21on the night of getting drafted.
09:22Look at that.
09:23They get drafted.
09:23Of course, unless you're drafted by Richmond, then...
09:30That's like you at the footy when they serve you a mid-string.
09:35It seems so sad.
09:37No, well, he's injured at the moment, young Sam Cummings,
09:39so we wish him all the very best.
09:41Don't worry about that.
09:41There were smiles all over the place at the footy on the weekend,
09:44particularly the teams that won,
09:45but celebrities came to flock.
09:47Stephen Grant, who's one of the great actors of all time,
09:50the bloke on the left,
09:51and, of course, Tom Hanks, who was loving the footy.
09:53He's silly up there.
09:54He met Andrew Dillon, of course.
09:56He's about to join us, so...
09:57At the GWS home game,
09:58there were more people on that island in Carstalline
10:03than there would have been for that home game.
10:05I reckon Tom Hanks would have rather be talking to a volleyball
10:10than Andrew Dillon, but anyway.
10:11The, um...
10:12Well, no.
10:13No, that's...
10:14No, that's not fair.
10:16No, we stand by that.
10:18They weren't the only celebrities that bobbed up
10:20over the weekend of the footy, too.
10:22There were some superstars who turned up at other games there.
10:25Superstars?
10:25Yeah, more work.
10:26Absolutely, there were.
10:27Oh, boy.
10:28And, uh...
10:28Here we go.
10:29Oh, I'm talking about none other than, uh...
10:31Yeah, of course.
10:32Well, Sway...
10:32Well...
10:33Yeah, that's right.
10:33They were big celebrities, but Sway Lee...
10:36Sway Lee.
10:37Sway Lee's bigger than...
10:38Yep.
10:40Sway Lee's big.
10:41Massive Sway Lee.
10:42And, um...
10:43Yeah, Sway Lee.
10:44The Hollywood St Kilda game was the one that Sway Lee got to.
10:49And, uh...
10:50As you'll see, right...
10:52What's your point, Sharon?
10:53My point is this.
10:54Sway Lee was in the footy.
10:55When the cameras...
10:56Sway Lee.
10:57...spot Sway Lee, or when they spot a big celeb...
11:00Yeah.
11:00...it's...
11:00The commentator's under a lot of pressure.
11:02Yeah, yeah.
11:02...to come up with all the CV, just to, you know, to fill in the...
11:06Tell people who they are.
11:07And I wanted to say, Sway Lee was spotted.
11:10And I thought that...
11:12I thought that James Brayshaw...
11:15Well, look...
11:15James Brayshaw was involved.
11:16He was commentating, and when he saw Sway Lee, he did his best.
11:21Sway Lee, the rapper.
11:24Who's that, JP?
11:25Sway Lee.
11:25Sway Lee.
11:26Yep.
11:2711 million followers on Instagram.
11:29I'm told.
11:30Sway Lee.
11:31Please.
11:3111 million, Brian.
11:32Come on.
11:33Three and a half million albums sold.
11:35She's a big deal.
11:36On International Women's Day.
11:44She's a big deal on International Women's Day.
11:46Sway Lee is a big deal.
11:48Right, yeah.
11:48And, um, also, Sway Lee is a man.
11:54That's all I wanted to point out.
11:56Well done, JP.
11:57Hey, it's an easy...
11:58Who's that last two minutes went via Dubai?
12:00Wow.
12:01It's a long time to get there.
12:02We need to take a break.
12:03It wasn't scheduled.
12:04How good.
12:05On the other side of the break, Andrew Dillon, hey?
12:08All right.
12:30We're pretty good.
12:32We're down there in Port Melbourne, a triccative.
12:33The heart flows freely down there.
12:35Great food pub, of course.
12:36Just make sure you get down there, get involved with the program,
12:39of course, via our social media platforms.
12:42A lot of conversation last week about the absence of the drip tray.
12:46As we mentioned at the start of the show, the drip tray is back this week.
12:52Wonderful, wonderful.
12:54Multi?
12:55The multi, of course.
12:56The multi's there every single week, just whacking away late in the show.
12:59So well done, multi.
13:00It's a trooper.
13:01It is a trooper.
13:02It's a trooper.
13:02Hey, another season's underway.
13:04What a magnificent way to get it underway last weekend.
13:08So much to look forward to.
13:09To look forward to round one with us, please make welcome the AFL CEO,
13:13Andrew Dillon, everybody.
13:16Thanks for coming on, mate.
13:17Thanks, Anthony.
13:18I'm back to you here.
13:20Let's start with a big one, Andrew.
13:22You said you were coming on to make a big announcement.
13:25Well, here it is.
13:26Andrew would like to announce there will be a Twilight Grand Final this year.
13:30And there it is.
13:32Here it is.
13:33Amazing.
13:34What an exclusive.
13:35Finally.
13:35Talk us through it.
13:36When did you come to that decision?
13:37You may have jumped the gun a little bit better.
13:39So, look, I've been to many Grand Finals.
13:42I've been fortunate to go to many Grand Finals in my life.
13:44A lot during the day.
13:46I saw a Twilight won over in Perth at night.
13:49It was good, wasn't it?
13:49They're all great.
13:50They're all great Grand Finals.
13:52What do you guys reckon?
13:53When should it be?
13:54Well, as long as the fireworks are on during the day.
13:59I always like that so I get something.
14:00Twilight for me.
14:01But you did say you were going to make a big announcement.
14:03And you're going to, aren't you?
14:05I've got a massive announcement, of course.
14:07We've come prepared for this.
14:08So put up our ticker.
14:09We need the ticker here.
14:11And our watermark.
14:12So people will know when this appears on the news that it was broadcast here for the very first time.
14:19So cop that unfiltered.
14:21Here we go.
14:23Are you ready?
14:24Like, drop us.
14:25What have you got?
14:27So the pies at Marvel Stadium this year will be the same price as last year.
14:31$4.70.
14:32Whoa!
14:32Keep us in football.
14:35He's enormous.
14:37That's enormous.
14:39Take the ticker down.
14:40Take the ticker down.
14:41Get rid of the old watermark.
14:42That's a waste of our time.
14:44What are you saying?
14:45The same price as last year.
14:46And that's a bombshell?
14:47$4.70.
14:48Cheapest pies in football.
14:50Cheaper than a survey.
14:51Cheaper than a survey?
14:52Cheaper than a survey.
14:52So the chips will stay at the same price as well?
14:54Chips will be $4 or $5.
14:57$4.90 for water.
14:58$5 for the jam donuts.
14:59$6 for hot dogs.
15:01So it's all good.
15:01It could all be free.
15:02You wouldn't get me to Marvel.
15:07Hold on.
15:08So you're freezing prices?
15:09Freezing prices.
15:10Well, follow-up question.
15:11Why are you against a free market economy?
15:14Are you a communist?
15:15Are you a communist?
15:16Well, we prefer sort of socialist in there.
15:19So they're the same price as last year.
15:23Are they the same pies as last year?
15:26Last year is my question.
15:28Are you?
15:28Because it sounded a bit sus to me.
15:30No, they're such good value.
15:31We move plenty of them.
15:32Magnificent world.
15:33And the chips?
15:33What about the chips?
15:34Chips, same price as last year.
15:35That's great news for the seagulls.
15:37That's really seagulls.
15:39And I'll make a lot of people very, very happy to hear that, Andrew.
15:42That was it.
15:43Really?
15:44We've been waiting on what you said.
15:45You wanted an exclusive.
15:46I got you one.
15:48Who would have thought that the throw to the Sway Lee clip wouldn't be the low point of the month?
15:56Should we be...
16:09Look at that.
16:10It's like two Forrest Gumps.
16:14Have you got a favourite Tom Hanks movie?
16:17I reckon it's hard to go past Forrest Gump.
16:20He was pretty good in Turner and Hooch as well, I thought.
16:23Let's not talk drip tray stuff.
16:26You actually...
16:27Like, what was he like?
16:29What did you talk about?
16:30Well, he said he watched, when he was in college, watched a lot of footy AFL on ESPN.
16:34So he said, you know, I used to like watching the Pies and the Bombers.
16:37He loved it.
16:38He was...
16:39The first thing he said to me, actually, was, I recognise you from the big screen.
16:44What?
16:44I'd been on the scoreboard that day.
16:47So he did actually recognise you?
16:50Absolutely.
16:50So that's what he said anyway.
16:51That's a nice flick.
16:52But no, he was a big fan of the game.
16:54And the Giants and the Hawks put on a ripper that first quarter.
16:5713 goals between the two of them.
16:59So it was great.
16:59Did you tell him about the price of a pie?
17:02Then you confused him to go, mate, you're not going to believe that.
17:05Well, we weren't at Marvel.
17:06What'd you leave with?
17:07Did you ask him a question?
17:09Yeah, I asked him, what's he doing out here?
17:11And?
17:12Wow.
17:12Electric.
17:12Reducing a movie, yeah.
17:13What did he...
17:14He's doing a movie?
17:15No, he'd been at the stadium the week before, seeing Bad Bunny perform.
17:18And liked the stadium and wanted to come back and, you know,
17:21get his first AFL game live.
17:22Bad Bunny.
17:23So any answer on a grand final entertainment,
17:24now that you've mentioned Bad Bunny, NFL, halftime?
17:27I'd go with Sway Lee.
17:28You've got any leads on the grand final entertainment?
17:31I can't give anything away, but, you know, Sam might be on to something.
17:35But you can confirm pies are the same prices.
17:40Sway Lee!
17:41Mate, I've just...
17:42That's an exclusive.
17:43Put the ticket back up.
17:45There it is.
17:46Broken.
17:46Well, well, well.
17:48It's not making sense.
17:48That was a very good photo.
17:50It was, yes.
17:50This is a photo of what you're explaining to me.
17:52What's going on here?
17:53Oh, God.
17:56That is one of the biggest blocks of wood I've ever seen.
18:00And the tree's not bad.
18:01I don't...
18:04Now, I don't know who your media manager is, but he's had a shocker.
18:08That is...
18:09How's he allowed that?
18:10I've urinated on that tree.
18:12Can you do that?
18:13So, Jay got an official warning for that.
18:15So, Jay got an official warning.
18:17And it's a strike.
18:18As the photographer's in there, I'm thinking, you're going to look like a dickhead.
18:23You've had a busy off-season.
18:25Obviously, heaps of changes to the game.
18:26We'll talk about those in a moment.
18:27But the trip to India, what was that all?
18:30What was the key for you going over there?
18:33Well, it was two parts.
18:34One was to talk to some Indian companies who want to do business back here in Australia.
18:38So, we had some really good meetings with them in Mumbai.
18:41And that was Republic Day there, Jan 26 in India.
18:44And then, at the back end of the week, we went to a city called Ranchi.
18:48And that's where...
18:48It's the hotbed of Australian football in India.
18:50So, we've got about 3,000 or 4,000 people playing footy in Ranchi, but also 10,000 all in
18:56India.
18:56Are they expats or are they locals?
18:57All locals.
18:58Really?
18:58All locals.
18:59And we had the national championships for India on that weekend.
19:03So, it was great to see the footy over there.
19:05True or false, you announced that the price of butter, chicken and nuts was not going up at Mumbai Stadium.
19:12Is that...
19:15Well, it's interesting because you did say, I think, earlier in the week,
19:19that you wanted to see it as an Olympic event at the 2032 Olympics in Brisbane.
19:24It's a great idea.
19:25Who are we going to play?
19:28Ireland, India, you know...
19:30Ireland, India.
19:32Rest of the world.
19:33Yeah, we'll see about that.
19:34But, you know, the thing about the Olympics is that, you know, 1956,
19:37we had an exhibition game of Australian rules there, which went really well.
19:41And I think there's an opportunity for our sport to be played on the bigger stage.
19:44What format takes...
19:45I'm pencilling that in for gold, by the way.
19:47I'm just thinking we might have that.
19:49Well done, by the way.
19:50India, a game in India, I think, you know, smart move,
19:53riding the wave of the success of the games in China.
19:57But selling Aussie rules overseas, though, I would have thought would be quite tough.
20:03It's a tough gig.
20:04Because it's just a hard game to explain.
20:06And Exhibit A would be, of course, Ross Oakley, who tried to explain the game, Andrew,
20:10to the Americans in 1989.
20:13VFL chairman Ross Oakley gave the handful of Americans gathered at the LA Coliseum some idea of the game.
20:20It's really a sophisticated game of keepings off.
20:23Have any of you played keepings off as kids?
20:26No?
20:28Fair enough.
20:28Well, I'll explain it.
20:32It's a hard sell.
20:33Tell me you went better than that.
20:36Slightly better when I was explaining it to Tom Hanks, but not much.
20:38Where were ice when you need them?
20:40That's what I'm thinking over there.
20:42Well done.
20:44We're all interested to see how the new rules would play out.
20:48There's a few of them.
20:50Internally, the conversation.
20:51What's your favourite?
20:52It looked like it all went pretty well, actually.
20:53I think, I mean, they did go pretty well.
20:55Small sample size, of course.
20:56But, yeah, the scoring was up.
20:59Speed was up.
21:00Speed was up.
21:01Plenty of good footy.
21:02And, yeah, lots of scoring.
21:03Third quarter, Thursday night.
21:05First quarter on Saturday, twilight were amazing.
21:07But, yeah, it was really good footy.
21:09So we're happy with it.
21:10My favourite one.
21:10I like the actual last disposal between the arcs.
21:15I think it's good.
21:16Yeah.
21:16Origins have been a big talking point.
21:18And it continues to be.
21:20Tick.
21:20Are we, well, the game was, wasn't it?
21:22That's great.
21:22The first one was.
21:23But are we committed to it again in 12 months' time?
21:27Or is that yet to be determined?
21:29Yeah, yet to be determined.
21:30But what we do know, it was a huge success.
21:32The players loved it.
21:33You know, the fans loved it.
21:34We had over 58,000 people, over a million people watching it on TV.
21:38So it was, and streaming it.
21:40So big success that way.
21:41But we want to work with the players and the clubs just to make sure that we've got it,
21:44you know, in the right part of the season, work out who's going to play.
21:47But, yeah, all the players to a person, you know, had a great experience.
21:51Yeah, man, of course.
21:52What's the other one?
21:53Oh, yeah, the Suns only won by 10 goals against Geelong.
21:55Is it time for a priority pick?
22:00You must be happy with that result, yeah?
22:02It was a great opening round.
22:07It's always a joy to have Andrew on the program with us.
22:09Just to be clear, pies are the same price as last year.
22:13It's exclusive, yeah.
22:15Chips, same.
22:15Just in case you're not getting enough of the AFL CEO on the front bar,
22:19don't go anywhere because he's the specialist with Hamish McLaughlin on Unfiltered straight after us.
22:25Andrew, that would have been a pretty, you know, it would have been an interesting chat,
22:28but it would have been a quick chat, would it?
22:29How long did...
22:30You know, it's a half an hour episode.
22:31The chat went for eight hours.
22:32Hamish can't speak.
22:34Jesus, eight hours.
22:36You would have had to take your Harry Mackay pillow.
22:39It would have happened.
22:40There'll be a deep dive into your playing career, no doubt.
22:43You're an outstanding amateur footballer.
22:45We're a good footballer.
22:46There'll be a chat about your contribution to the game as a player.
22:49Yeah, we sort of cover a few topics, I think, yeah.
22:52You played for Olds Avery.
22:54How many games did you play?
22:55Played 290 for Olds Avery.
22:57That's a lot of games.
22:58Six premierships?
22:59Six premierships, yeah.
23:00Pretty good.
23:00It's a very good game.
23:08Very fine player.
23:09Very fine player.
23:09It's great that you can...
23:10You know, many viewers would know that you actually did play at such a high level,
23:13and so, not only can we give the CV, we dug up some highlights of...
23:18Hey, you've got a highlight.
23:19Absolutely.
23:20Have a look at this.
23:20I can't worry now.
23:21Have a look at this game.
23:22Have a look at this game.
23:23This is a big, big, long goal.
23:24That's outside 50.
23:25Outside 50.
23:26That's not Andrew, but here he is tying up his shoelaces.
23:28So there you go.
23:30There you go, mate.
23:31Look at that.
23:32Well done.
23:34Well done.
23:35Well done.
23:35He's going to tie on his left and his right.
23:38Always a joy to have you on the show.
23:40Good luck this weekend at the footy.
23:42You can get the right team over the line tomorrow night if you could.
23:44If you wouldn't mind.
23:46I'm sure it'll be umpired well.
23:48Andrew Dillon, everybody.
23:49I love it.
23:49Hey, you're the CEO.
23:50Join us on the side of the road.
23:52Don't go anywhere.
23:53Jack Dunstan, you'll join us on the other side of the road.
23:57We'll get a photo.
23:57Yeah.
24:03The CEO, Andrew Dillon, answers the big questions.
24:07What's the one change you'd make?
24:09I think what I would do...
24:10Unfiltered returns tonight.
24:13I think what we've got to do is continue to evolve.
24:15I want to make sure in 20, 30 years' time we remain the game that Australians love.
24:19Unfiltered.
24:20Tonight on 7 and 7 Plus.
24:27Welcome back to the show.
24:28It's the front bar.
24:29Thanks to Han.
24:30How good.
24:30Great to have you with us.
24:31Our next guest is putting together one of the great CVs in the modern game.
24:36Three-time premiership player.
24:38Multiple best and fairest.
24:39Multiple All-Australians.
24:41Won his last two of those last year at the age of 33.
24:44He is getting better with age.
24:46It's a joy to watch him play his footy.
24:48And it's a joy to have him on the show.
24:49So please make him welcome, Jack Gunston, everybody.
24:55Thanks for coming on, mate.
24:59You're in equal career best form.
25:02And you go back to 2010 for your first game.
25:05What do you put it down to?
25:07What is the secret to your playing so well after all these years?
25:10I haven't really left the 30 metres out from goal.
25:13That was for probably the last season.
25:16But no, just a lot of diligence with my body.
25:18I got my body right.
25:20I obviously had a few back problems a couple of years ago.
25:23And I went up to Brisbane and that didn't really work out.
25:26It was pretty much a gap year in the end.
25:27And came back.
25:29And, yeah, I've just been able to, I don't know, get out in the park and get through the pre
25:34-season sessions, which I hadn't been in the past.
25:36What happened there?
25:37It's a bit of a weird episode, wasn't it?
25:38You're a Hawthorne legend.
25:40You go up there.
25:41It's almost like a lap of honour.
25:42Or you're going up there.
25:43And then they go, no, we're good.
25:45And you go back to Hawthorne.
25:47Where you've had one of your greatest years of all time.
25:50Yeah, I just needed a change at the time in my life.
25:53And I went up there.
25:54And you just hope things work out.
25:57And I was planning to be there for a few years and possibly post-footy.
26:00And, unfortunately, it didn't work out the way I was hoping.
26:03And I was fortunate that Sam and Hawthorne were happy to have me back.
26:07Otherwise, yeah, I don't know where it would be.
26:09It's a great story.
26:09It's a great story.
26:10They've obviously missed you.
26:11They've won two flags since you left.
26:15The Fremantle Grand Final.
26:17Tight, difficult conditions.
26:18Tough day for footy.
26:19You kick four.
26:20I mean, of all the accolades in your career, you're a bit stiff that you didn't get the Norm Smith
26:24that day.
26:24A lot of people thought you should have.
26:26Yeah, very stiff.
26:27Yeah, right.
26:29If I go back, I think Brian Lake won it by a vote.
26:33I haven't spoken to Tony Shaw since on the voting committee.
26:37And, yeah, Matty Pavlich might have had 15 touches, kicked three goals.
26:40But I've moved on.
26:42Did you think you had it?
26:44Yeah, I had it.
26:44Towards the end of the last quarter, you're going, oh, I'm in here.
26:46Well, Matt Sucklin, an ex-teammate, ran out who wasn't playing in the game afterwards
26:50and started calling me Norm, Norm.
26:52Yeah, right.
26:53And I had the Norman Gunston nickname a little bit.
26:55So it didn't really make sense.
26:57But he's like, mate, you're going to win it, you're going to win it.
26:59And I was like, oh, God, I need to think of a speech here.
27:02So I had a few things going through my head and, yeah, Brian's name got called out.
27:05So I didn't have to use it.
27:06Yeah, that's pretty flat.
27:07If you ever win it, thanks, Swali.
27:09There you go.
27:11A lot of people won't remember this, but you did start at the Adelaide Crows.
27:14Your first two years were over in South Australia.
27:17And for people who can't remember Jack, you didn't know.
27:19I did.
27:20I feel that miss.
27:21So when you see, yes, Jack playing for Adelaide, it's quite general.
27:25Let's relive one of his finest moments as an Adelaide Crows.
27:29They can close the door here.
27:31They can do it with Gunston kicking his first goal in AFL footy.
27:34He runs onto it, the debutant.
27:35He does it for me sweeter than that.
27:38Welcome to AFL footy, Jack.
27:41In hindsight, I think we should have just talked over that.
27:47So you played 14 games for the Crows?
27:50Played 14 games, yep.
27:52I haven't put on any weight since either.
27:54But got rid of the blonde tips.
27:56And decided that you had enough?
27:58Yeah, every time I tried to leave Melbourne, I seemed to keep coming back.
28:02No, it was two years at Crows.
28:04Just won at Brisbane.
28:05And is it true you won your best first-year player?
28:08Yeah, I did.
28:09That's not a bad idea.
28:10I did win the award.
28:12And then there was a little miscommunication about attending the Best and Fairest.
28:17I said, just give me a call if you want me to come.
28:18They never called.
28:20And anyway, I watched the Best and Fairest.
28:22And yeah, my housemate, Daniel Talia, ended up winning my award and the TV that came with it.
28:30So never got the TV.
28:31So you won Best and Fairest.
28:32He's more upset about that than the Norm Smith.
28:35Must have won a good TV.
28:36So you should have, I think you're announced as the best first-year player.
28:39And then they just say, you're not there, you're leaving the club.
28:42We'll give it to Daniel Talia.
28:44We'll give it to Daniel Talia.
28:45And by the way, Daniel Talia was good enough to send in this photo with your trophy and the TV.
28:50Isn't that nice?
28:51Good on you.
28:56So obviously the club didn't take it well.
28:58What about the fans?
28:59I mean, if I know the Adelaide Crows fans, they would have been supportive.
29:02Yeah, a lot of supportive tweets and messages that I received from the Crows fans, as you would expect.
29:07Have you got a tweet that you remember?
29:10Yeah, there is one that I have kept.
29:12It took a screenshot at the time.
29:15Yeah, so...
29:18I may be reading between the lines here, but in the old days, I think that's what they called a
29:23death.
29:25Because tick, tick, tick, dead, dead, dead.
29:27I'm glad it's not ticked.
29:29So it was one that I'd kept.
29:33Can I just say that?
29:34That is a strong draft.
29:37A hundred lights.
29:39One person penned that, but there's a hundred lights.
29:41That's terrifying.
29:43Mickey's gone quiet because you don't want to say, you've always been a Gaddafi man, haven't you?
29:47If you had a redraft, you'd have your number one.
29:50Salma did some good work, mate.
29:54If you made me choose, EDM.
29:56Oh, that's nice.
29:58He wasn't there.
29:59He wasn't there.
29:59He wasn't there.
30:00He wasn't there.
30:01He wasn't there.
30:01Underrated.
30:01Obviously, I'm a Pol Pot man.
30:02Have you got a favourite...
30:04Jack, have you got any favourite tyrants or...
30:08You're still playing, aren't you?
30:09I'd stay out of this, Jack.
30:11Well, you are still playing, and you're in remarkable condition.
30:14You are the oldest.
30:16I mean, it's a fact that you're the oldest player on the Hawthorne list.
30:19How do you...
30:19And they're a pretty perky bunch of youngsters they've got down there at the Hawthorne football.
30:23How do you go with those guys?
30:25There's a few personalities.
30:26Yeah.
30:27You've got Jack Ginevan wearing a ring on the game on the weekend.
30:30Right over there.
30:30Do you know what he was doing?
30:31He just forgot?
30:32No, it's on his wedding finger as well, but I believe he's...
30:35Not married.
30:35Not married.
30:36So, yeah, you've got him, you've got Nick Watson, you've got the Weddells, you've just
30:40got a lot of personalities and...
30:41It's like a child-mining centre.
30:43Yeah, that's how I feel.
30:45I ignore a lot of it, but look after him where I can.
30:47Do you understand...
30:48Not one word.
30:49Not one word.
30:49Not one word.
30:51No, stay out of it, stay out of the TikTok, stay out of the social media.
30:54It's just not me, Murray.
30:55So when you see this, Jack, the photo of the young bloke, he was...
30:59That's you and Jack Ginevan.
31:00That's Jack Ginevan on the left.
31:02Is that...
31:04He looks innocent there.
31:05He does.
31:05Who knew that little kid would grow up to be a total dickhead?
31:10He doesn't say anything.
31:15He's not anything.
31:17But that is surprising.
31:18They say he would have gone to the game going, you're one of his heroes, and now do you still
31:22have the same respect?
31:25Do I?
31:26Does he have the same respect as that?
31:27Does he treat you well?
31:28He treats me very well.
31:29Yeah, good.
31:30We're a very close to forward unit.
31:31We've got Marby or Chole and, as I said, Nick Watson.
31:34There's a lot of personalities there.
31:36We let them flourish.
31:37Let them do their thing.
31:38If they want to celebrate to the crowd, they can.
31:40But I'll continue to do what I learned back in the day.
31:43Nice.
31:44Excellent.
31:44Jack, it's...
31:45Everyone's happy.
31:46Yeah, everyone's happy.
31:46But I just wanted to say, look, we don't dodge the big questions on this show.
31:50Do you know what I mean?
31:51I know it's been fun.
31:52We've had a bit of a laugh.
31:53Oh, Sway Lee, da-da-da.
31:56We need to address the fact that there were two teammates of yours who brought the game
32:01into the disrepute with some questionable behaviour.
32:05Mate, I don't care.
32:06I don't care what I told people before the show.
32:08I've got to address it.
32:10It's just a scissor lift.
32:11You're talking about the scissor lift.
32:12The what?
32:12The scissor lift.
32:13The players overseas who...
32:15No, I'm talking about Josh Weddle and Will Day.
32:18Show the clip.
32:19One of my favourite places at school was the library.
32:22Along with the Oval, of course.
32:24But then mum would take me to the library in the city sometimes, and that was next level.
32:29There's a wealth of information available in your local library.
32:32It's like a gym for your mind.
32:35You can do so much at your local library.
32:38But when you think about it, the best thing is you can borrow a book and take it home to
32:43read.
32:48That's what I'm dealing with.
32:49I know.
32:49That's what I'm dealing with.
32:51Mate.
32:52It's a book.
32:53You can read it.
32:55It's a gym for your mind.
32:58Weddle didn't even know there was libraries getting around school.
33:00You can have your Emirates and your BMWs, mate.
33:03In terms of endorsements, it's the sweet library money.
33:07That's what all the players are after, Harry.
33:10They're advertising a library, but can we have a look if you're reading the books?
33:14One of you's on the phone.
33:16He can't even be bothered.
33:19What's he on, Kindle?
33:20No, he's ordering a book from Amazon.
33:23Out of your teammates, who would speak?
33:25If there was one that was actually a regular frequenter of a library, have you got a teammate who might
33:30fit that bill?
33:30Yeah, so the two that answer all the questions in the meeting is Josh Ward and Max Ramson.
33:35So whenever the room goes silent, we throw to them and they've always got something.
33:38The library's like a gym for your mind.
33:43Favourite book?
33:44Oh, whoa, whoa, whoa.
33:46It just came up naturally.
33:48Is there one you love?
33:51No, I'm not a big writer.
33:53Sorry, I can't see.
33:54Trip Trey in the wrong hands.
33:55By the way, by the way.
33:57Please spend more time down the gym.
33:59Josh Ward, of course.
34:00Alma mater of yours.
34:02Clifton Hill primary boy.
34:04How is that?
34:04Who cares about that?
34:06I went to that school and I don't even care.
34:09Hey, what's it like being coached by a bloke?
34:12You've played a lot of football.
34:13Yes.
34:13Is there a timeline of kind of adjustment it takes between you and who to get on the right kind
34:20of levels?
34:21No, I think the beauty about Sam was he always felt like a coach, especially when you're playing.
34:25Like, he had such an astute knowledge of the game.
34:28He'd challenge the coaching staff or the players regularly and it just seemed like it was a perfect fit for
34:34Sam to become a senior coach post-footy.
34:37I reckon it happened probably even quicker than he might have thought, but he was ready for it.
34:41And as you've seen with our list, he's taken the club from down the bottom to the top very quickly.
34:47That said, I'm not sure you need a coach because when you were at Brisbane, you took some of the
34:50decisions into your own hands and dropped yourself.
34:53I did. It's almost like the player that's about to get delisted, you just retire before that.
35:00So I saw it coming, so I thought I'll go in there and drop myself.
35:04How did that go? I mean, Chris Vagan's spoken about this. It was you and Daniel Rich, I think.
35:09How did you do that? What precipitated you?
35:13Why don't we have a look? We've got the clip here.
35:16Okay.
35:17A two-game losing streak. A wake-up call for veterans Daniel Rich and Jack Gunston,
35:21making the selfless call to drop themselves.
35:24Both lads came to me on Monday and wanted to have a chat about their football.
35:27They're not happy with the way that they're playing at the moment.
35:30They believe their form doesn't warrant selection.
35:33Rich has battled quad and calf issues, while Gunston barely gets out of a canter at training.
35:42That's why he's managed to play so long.
35:46I can't deny that. I was pretty slow up there.
35:49I was a genuine follow-up, Gunston, but when you left Brisbane, like you said,
35:53did you think it was all over?
35:54There was a stage through that period where I thought my career was coming to an end.
35:58Wow.
35:59Well, your career's about to reach a high point on the other side of the break.
36:02We want you to stick around, and you're going to be subjected on the other side of this, Jack Gunston.
36:07Oh, boy.
36:07To the drink tray, which makes its return.
36:21Jack Gunston, our special guest.
36:22We like to call him here at the front bar the Wind King, don't we, Sam?
36:26Because he can kick goals.
36:27We've never called him that.
36:28Never called him that.
36:29We just made that up.
36:30In the wind down there in Tasmania, Jack Gunston kicks goals from places that no human being,
36:35man or woman, has ever kicked goals from before.
36:37This last one.
36:38This is my favourite.
36:39What about this one?
36:39It's unbelievable.
36:40You have to set it out eight metres left of the goal post.
36:43That is magnificent stuff.
36:46That's brilliant.
36:47He never missed anything.
36:52You love the challenge of working out the angles and when the wind's at its stiffest.
36:58Do you like the problem of that that it presents to you?
37:01Yeah, absolutely.
37:01And pre-game, I'll probably put up nearly 40 to 50 shots from all different angles,
37:06just so I know at the top of my mark when I mark the ball and go back that from
37:11this pocket,
37:11this is what it's doing, or this and that.
37:13So as you can see there, I don't pass too often, so I'm going to have the shot.
37:16Oh, good.
37:17Well, would you?
37:17Well, you'd be loving it out at Dingley, because the power leads are blowing.
37:21It looks like a Category 5 out there.
37:23Worst decision the Hawks have ever made.
37:26Haven't really noticed the wind out there, Nick.
37:28No, no, yeah.
37:28Haven't noticed it.
37:29When a team that's been traffic in Waverley moves and complains about the wind, you know
37:34it's windy.
37:35You're going to put up a $500,000 tarp or something, aren't you?
37:38Just to keep the wind out of the joint.
37:39Is that what I read in the paper today?
37:41Yeah, I read that too.
37:42I'm not too sure, Murray.
37:44No, look, everyone has their challenges out on the training track at times, and as you
37:47can see, it's not always perfect when you're playing AFL, so you've got to be ready for
37:51all conditions.
37:51No, you get it right.
37:52When the wind's at its toughest, you get it right, Jack Gunston.
37:55But you're facing big challenges in your AFL career, but you're about to face perhaps
37:59the toughest of them all, because for the first time in 2016, apparently we've been hearing
38:07rumours, it's time now for Sam's Drip Tray.
38:17They're up and about.
38:19They're up.
38:20So you've been working away secretly.
38:22Yes.
38:23You've been behind closed doors.
38:26Yes, absolutely.
38:26And you've promised an all-new format.
38:27No, not all-new.
38:29There's some, you know, something's working, you don't change it.
38:33Of course you don't.
38:33So I'm saying there's been some nice additions, there's new questions to a beloved segment.
38:41So what have you done?
38:42Did Jack know the segment?
38:43We'll find out.
38:44Have you seen Drip Tray, Jack?
38:45I have seen Drip Tray.
38:46All right, I'm nervous for you.
38:52So if you haven't seen Drip Tray, there's some quick questions, some punchy answers you
38:57can pass if you want, but it's just a little opportunity to get to know a little bit more
39:01about Jack.
39:02I love it.
39:03All right.
39:03But you can pass.
39:04Absolutely you can.
39:06He doesn't do that often on a weekend, though.
39:08Hey, all right.
39:10Jack.
39:11Yes.
39:11It's not all just silly questions.
39:13Toughest opponent?
39:15Harry Taylor.
39:16Well, what made him so tough?
39:19He was diligent and did his homework on you.
39:23So he just knew.
39:23He's what, Rick?
39:24He was good on this segment, too.
39:26What was his favourite animal?
39:28Some kind of crazy bird.
39:29Yeah, he was, too.
39:31A guinea fowl.
39:32A guinea fowl.
39:32His favourite bird was a guinea fowl.
39:34He said favourite bird, and Harry Taylor goes guinea fowl.
39:36Sorry.
39:37Sorry, Sam.
39:38You done?
39:39You could have heard a pin drop, which is not unusual.
39:43That's a good question and a great answer.
39:45What's your favourite bird?
39:46What are you doing?
39:48What is going on here?
39:50Actually, that's a good one.
39:51Mick, hold on.
39:53Hey, all right.
39:53That was your toughest opponent.
39:54Easiest opponent, Jack?
39:56That would have been James Sicily when I was at Brisbane.
39:59Oh, no.
39:59Oh, no.
40:02Good answer.
40:03I actually didn't think it would go on.
40:04What's the most you ever kicked in a game?
40:06Juniors, seniors.
40:07Seven.
40:08What?
40:08Seven?
40:09At any level.
40:09Thank you, pardon me.
40:10At any level.
40:11Cut it out.
40:11I wasn't that good at juniors.
40:14Seven.
40:14You've never kicked more than seven goals?
40:16No.
40:17Chopper.
40:17This is unbelievable.
40:19What?
40:19That's kind of...
40:20I didn't think that was the question that would bring drip trade down.
40:25Surely somewhere you've got off the chain.
40:28Third aim.
40:29Seven and a quarter, I would have thought.
40:30No, sorry to disappoint.
40:32That's all right.
40:33Well, you do disappoint.
40:34I'll tell you what, we can keep asking the same question.
40:35I think the answer's the same.
40:38Who was your idol growing up?
40:40Matthew Lloyd.
40:41Yeah.
40:41Oh.
40:42Well, you're an Essendon supporter, weren't you?
40:43I was an Essendon.
40:44You're an Essendon...
40:45It's true, you're an Essendon mascot as a young fellow.
40:47I was a mascot, yeah.
40:48What does that mean?
40:48A little fellow that ran out with the Essendon team.
40:51Yeah, Dad was the interim CEO for a while, so there was a few connections there.
40:54Yeah.
40:54Wow.
40:55Yeah, he ran out with the Essendon boys.
40:56I'm not used to the trip trade question getting an interesting answer.
41:00Yeah, yeah, yeah.
41:01That's awesome.
41:01Yep.
41:02Hey, first pair of footy boots.
41:06Nike.
41:07Right.
41:08Right.
41:08Yeah, Nike Tempos.
41:10There you go.
41:10See, I need it more.
41:11Yeah, yeah, yeah.
41:11All right.
41:13See, is that the footy stuff done?
41:15Can I get to the...
41:16Well, you're the boss.
41:17It's your trip trade.
41:18All right.
41:18What were you hoping for from a first boot?
41:21Yeah, no, it's not great.
41:23What's he going to say that's going on?
41:24Well, it was either that or favourite...
41:26Were they screw-ins or mould-ins?
41:27I had screw-ins.
41:28Yeah, right.
41:29Yeah, there you go.
41:29All metal.
41:32Who would have thought that wouldn't save it?
41:36What's your...
41:37What about...
41:38What else I got here?
41:39Trying to work out, is this me or you?
41:41No, no, no.
41:43No, no, you'll go.
41:43You'll go.
41:44You'll go.
41:45All right.
41:45You'll go.
41:46Let's just get to some old favourites.
41:48He's saving you at the moment.
41:49What happened to you?
41:50I thought you were going to give us some new.
41:50No, just a couple...
41:51All right.
41:52All right.
41:52Here's a new one.
41:57This is new.
41:58All right.
41:59Favourite nut.
42:00Nut.
42:02Cashew.
42:03Salter.
42:04Well, that's a problem, isn't it?
42:05It's not a nut.
42:07What?
42:07It's not a nut.
42:08It's not a nut.
42:09What?
42:09No, people think it's a nut or a legume, but it's actually called a...
42:13It's a...
42:15I think it's a droop.
42:16A droop?
42:17Yeah.
42:17Right.
42:18Anyway.
42:20So, it's not a nut.
42:21So, we're going to ask you the question again.
42:25What's your favourite nut?
42:26Peanut.
42:27Peanut.
42:27Yeah, right.
42:28Peanut's a good one.
42:29Are we allowing peanut?
42:30Yes, we're allowing peanut.
42:31Can you have what...
42:31It has to be an edible type nut.
42:33It can't be a mechanical type nut, can it?
42:39Like a what?
42:41Can I...
42:41Like my...
42:42No, you can't.
42:43I can't say that.
42:43Right.
42:44All right.
42:44That was...
42:45First car.
42:46Holden Commodore.
42:47Ooh.
42:48Colour?
42:48What colour?
42:49The first choice.
42:50Metallic blue with a subwoofer.
42:51Ooh.
42:53Real...
42:53You got that in Adelaide, right?
42:55I took it over to Adelaide.
42:56Changed the number plates.
42:57Right.
42:57Had to get rid of the big number plates.
42:59Of course it did, yes.
42:59First choice of armed robbers.
43:02It's true.
43:03Look it up.
43:04It's a fun fact.
43:05Uh...
43:05Second car.
43:07Uh...
43:07A Jeep.
43:08Cherokee.
43:09Oh, yeah.
43:10Nice.
43:11That's got club sponsor written all over it.
43:14Cheek magnet.
43:15Favourite food?
43:16Uh...
43:17Favourite food would be Japanese sushi.
43:20Mm-hmm.
43:22Japanese, also known as poor man's Chinese.
43:26I think we're ready for one last question.
43:29What?
43:29Whoa, whoa.
43:30I think it's time.
43:31He's on a roll.
43:32No, mate.
43:32I'm coming out for dinner.
43:34What are you cooking me, Jeff?
43:35What am I cooking you?
43:36I will cook you steaks, ribeye.
43:40Uh...
43:40I don't know.
43:41Veg.
43:42Salad.
43:43How do you have your steak?
43:44Sweet potato chips.
43:45No, good.
43:45How do you have your steak?
43:46Medium rare.
43:46Yeah, good.
43:47And do you have it just condiments?
43:49Or do you just like it?
43:50What would you like me to cook, Sam?
43:52No, no.
43:53You're not the problem.
43:54You're the problem.
43:54No, I'm...
43:55You're mustard.
43:56Are you a mustard-type operant?
43:57Like a mix of mustard?
43:58That's the sauce.
43:58Did you hear earlier that pies are the same price as they were at Marvel?
44:02I did hear that.
44:03I did hear that.
44:04At Marvel.
44:04Look at these.
44:05It's a bombshell.
44:05All right.
44:06I've just got a couple of quick ones.
44:08Just your phone etiquette.
44:09Do you answer or let it go to voicemail if Sam Mitchell rings?
44:14Uh, depending on the day.
44:16If it's team selection, I'll let it go to voicemail.
44:18So on the first day, I'll let it go to voicemail.
44:20But normally, I'd answer.
44:21But the heart rate's going.
44:22All right.
44:22What about if Buddy called you?
44:23Would you pick that one up?
44:24He's never had my number.
44:27All right.
44:28He actually...
44:29The only time he's messaged me was off Jordan Lewis' phone.
44:32And that was when I came to Hawthorne.
44:34And it said, welcome to the club.
44:36Just don't get in my way.
44:39That's amazing.
44:40All right.
44:41How many more?
44:42One.
44:42I said one.
44:43I said it a while ago.
44:44All right.
44:44I was going to do favourite Ayatollah, but I'm not going to do that.
44:50What about your skin care routine, Jack?
44:53Do you moisturise?
44:55Do you exfoliate?
44:56Is there a toner involved?
44:58There is nothing.
44:59I'll wear hair product.
44:59I always wear my hair product.
45:01But in terms of my skin, there is nothing.
45:03All right.
45:03Let's finish with the big three.
45:08Holy Trinity.
45:10Jack Gunston, what's your favourite animal?
45:13It would be a hawk.
45:18He's perfect.
45:21Favourite colour?
45:24It's the second in the big three.
45:26Blue.
45:26I thought you were going to say brown.
45:28Brown and blue.
45:29And all right.
45:30To finish?
45:31Yes, please.
45:32Here it is.
45:33Jack Gunston, what's your favourite vegetable?
45:37Vegetable?
45:37Yeah.
45:39Favourite vegetable is a carrot.
45:45Cooked or raw?
45:48I don't care.
45:50Wrap this up.
45:51He's wrapped this up.
45:52He's just wrapped this up.
45:54I've got one last thing.
45:55One last thing.
45:56It doesn't matter.
45:57It's midnight anyway.
45:57Hey.
45:58I've got one last thing.
45:59Your mum's influence.
46:00Can you explain this?
46:01Your mum's influence.
46:02Can you explain this image to us, Jack?
46:05Your mum's a wonderful influence.
46:07What's this?
46:08Yeah.
46:08So this, my 250th, we probably didn't think, as I said before, I'd make another milestone
46:12with the way the career was going.
46:14So mum made a few stubby holders for everyone.
46:16And it said 501 tackles on there.
46:19That was a stat that no one believed that I'd ever done.
46:22It's true.
46:22Happy.
46:23Happy.
46:23It's true, yeah.
46:24So I was second to the football 501 times.
46:27By the way, it's a beautiful, beautiful, beautiful thing.
46:30By the way, your mum did one as well, Mickey, for your 300th appearance on Front Bar.
46:35She did one as well.
46:36Have a look at that.
46:37One million sip of beer, 50 paternity suits, five sackings, three vegetables, and no visits
46:45from your mum.
46:46No visits to your mum's a tough one of things, anyway.
46:49Anyway, and that was...
46:52That was...
46:53That was...
46:55Hey, Jack, you were outstanding.
47:02You're outstanding, Jukta.
47:03I think you really saved the lad tonight, so well done to you.
47:06Hey, you're part of...
47:07Not only part of a great Hawthorne team, but you're part of Channel 7's horse racing crew,
47:12which is outstanding.
47:13How long have you been interested in this, Koper?
47:16Yeah, I've loved horse racing for probably a good part of 12 years,
47:20and I started owning a few, and only recently we started breeding a few,
47:24so I've been able to link my two hobbies and my two passions of footy and horse racing,
47:28and we're going to try and tell a few people's stories along the way
47:31and link what we can between the footy and racing sort of element.
47:34Fantastic.
47:35You love racing.
47:36We've got a picture of you here with a horse called Giga Kick.
47:39A horse.
47:40And I believe that's your jockey there on the right.
47:43Is that...
47:46Who's that?
47:47Yeah, that's the apprentice, Nick Watson.
47:50He's a bit short for a jockey.
47:52Hey, mate, thanks...
47:53The wizard?
47:54Yeah.
47:56Thanks for coming on.
47:57Good luck this weekend.
47:58Good luck to the rest of the year.
48:00Jack Gunston, what a player he is.
48:02Magnificent footballer.
48:03Great to have him on the show.
48:04We're here for Han.
48:05How good?
48:06On the other side of this, the multi!
48:21Welcome back to the show.
48:22It's the front bar for Han.
48:23How good?
48:24Jack Gunston, magnificent.
48:26He's got a big game this week coming up against Essendon.
48:28The Zach Merritt game is going to be very, very interesting to see how that game plays out on Friday
48:33night.
48:33It all starts...
48:34At the end of that game, either way, Zach Merritt's singing a song.
48:38That's very true.
48:39He's going to get booed by everybody.
48:41It's both sets of supporters.
48:44Kicks off tomorrow night, Carlton and Richmond, of course.
48:46So many good games to look forward to.
48:48West Coast Eagles supporters, just hang on to your hat down there at the end.
48:51Going up to the Gold Coast Suns to finish the round.
48:53So we wish you all the very best, Eagles, for 2026.
48:57They should ring in six.
48:58I don't think they should ring in six.
49:00They should all drop themselves.
49:02And they've got some fine young players and a lot to look forward to this year and beyond.
49:07They're not going to win many games, let's be honest.
49:09Time now for the multi!
49:17All right, let's get straight into it.
49:20Let's crack on into the first round.
49:22Now, a huge blow for the Lions at the tribunal.
49:26Harris Andrews copped a three-match suspension for this incident against Bulldogs' Artie Jones.
49:32Have a look swinging arm.
49:33Here it comes.
49:33Bang!
49:34Yep.
49:38We used to call that a shepherd back in the 80s.
49:44I'd like to wager his technique has improved since this effort in 2024.
49:49Have a look.
49:49Here he comes.
49:50No.
49:53He just doesn't.
49:54Oh, no.
49:57That's what happens when you work hard at training.
50:00Yeah, yeah.
50:01Can I have it?
50:01No, you can't have it, but how about you take young Jaggersmith, the blue bag, and start
50:0512 or more kicks against your mob, and you're going to have $1.46.
50:09I don't like it, but I'll have it.
50:11All right, now, second leg.
50:13After weeks of hype leading into their season opener, the Saints rolled out this brand new
50:19pre-match ritual for the crowd, for the fans.
50:23Knock, knock.
50:24Knock.
50:25Who's there?
50:27Knock, knock.
50:29Who's there?
50:30Knock, knock.
50:34Who's there?
50:35I'd like to wager another loss for St. Keldon.
50:39Is that fair?
50:40It's terrible.
50:42You can't have it.
50:43You can't have it, but what about you take Rory Laird, the desk, to have 26 or more disposals
50:49against Collingwood, and he can have $2 and one.
50:51Why would Nick Briewoldt do that?
50:53I don't know.
50:53I don't know.
50:54He loves St. Kilda.
50:55But he can say no.
50:56Ah, well, he loves St. Kilda.
50:58I've spent too much money on players and not enough on pre-match entertainment.
51:02Clearly.
51:03Third leg.
51:03Yes, points.
51:04All right, you be the judge, but I'm not sure this dog is the biggest fan of getting its
51:08nails clipped.
51:09I don't know.
51:09Yeah, we'll look at it.
51:10It's the awkward.
51:11Ah!
51:14Ah!
51:16I've got one nail!
51:18I've barely punched him!
51:24I'd like to wager him.
51:25It's a dog or a fat elephant or something.
51:27I'm always going to say it's a multi.
51:30What?
51:31What are you talking about?
51:32I love the dog.
51:36The sound of your fist was speechless.
51:38Oh, you've kind of killed it, Ted, because I needed to come in hard off the back of the
51:42clip.
51:43Oh, play it again.
51:44Off the back of the clip.
51:44Play it again.
51:45Play it again.
51:45Well, I can try it now, but they're not going to laugh, because you really need to see the
51:50dog and understand the dog.
51:52No, I'm going to go for it.
51:58I can't remember the clip now.
52:01Play the clip again.
52:03There it is.
52:04There's the dog.
52:06Oh, God.
52:10Oh, God.
52:15I'd like to wager that dog has left nothing in the tank for when it gets his balls chopped
52:20off.
52:23Well, God.
52:25No, it was good.
52:26You did well.
52:27I like it.
52:28You can't have it.
52:29I was right to go back, wasn't I?
52:30Oh, mate.
52:30You can't have it.
52:4166.
52:42Yeah, let's boot this baby home.
52:45Now, trainers take a lot of care looking after their horse, but I think this guy is taking
52:49a little bit far.
52:50Here there he is in the park with his horse.
52:55It's just a couple spending time together.
53:01There it is.
53:02Oh, yeah.
53:03It's looking good.
53:06I'd like to wager it's great to see Charles and Carmilla really enjoying a couple of days
53:12in the park.
53:15Immediately after that, he got the jigger out.
53:17Can I have it?
53:21No, you can't have it.
53:22But how about you have Ben King to kick four or more against West Coast, and he can have
53:262.15 for that.
53:27What do you reckon?
53:28Bag it up.
53:28What have we got?
53:29This will be good.
53:30Come on, Sportsbet.
53:31There it is.
53:3110.47.
53:32Bang.
53:33If you like the look of that, jump onto the feed in the Sportsbet app, find and follow
53:37Mixed Multi, which is now, believe it or not, up to 22,000 followers, all part of the family.
53:43There you go.
53:43You can too.
53:44Place your bet.
53:45The last shout is coming up next.

54:23Welcome back to the show, the last shout.
54:26And it goes to a dear friend of the program.
54:31She sat in her seat and hosted a few front bars on the way through.
54:34Mel McLaughlin, who I'm sure a lot of people you know around Channel 7, of course.
54:40She tonight told us all that she'd been diagnosed with cancer.
54:43She's been fighting that battle since December.
54:47Despite finding out that she did have cancer, she stuck through the Australian Test Summer,
54:52hosted the Boxing Day and the Sydney Pink Tests.
54:56She's a trooper.
54:57She's a star.
54:57She's a great person.
54:59She'll get through this.
55:00Mel, if you're watching, on behalf of everybody here at the front bar, our thoughts are with
55:04you.
55:05All the strength in the world to her.
55:07Thank you, Mel.
55:12She's an absolute star and means a lot to a lot of people around this place, as does
55:17a man who I know you want to mention tonight.
55:19Well, we do.
55:20He's leaving us after a long tenure here at the program.
55:24Kingy.
55:25Josh King.
55:26Have we got a camera?
55:27Swing a camera.
55:27There he is.
55:30Come out.
55:31Come here.
55:32Come on.
55:32Sit on the bar.
55:34Take the posse.
55:36Josh for some time now has edited a lot of our stuff, but you won't recognise him from
55:41that position, of course.
55:42He's also, for your enjoyment, been involved in a few walk-on roles for us over the journey,
55:48so wish him well.
55:50We've put together a package.
55:51Have some of your finest moments in front of the camera, Kingy, on this program.
55:55Please enjoy.
56:55Oh, God.
56:56Well, it's not Joel, it's Josh, but it's clearly not that important.
57:08Now, can I just say...
57:12It's like you've edited that, by the way.
57:14I spent my last week doing that.
57:17Yeah.
57:20The other thing is, by the way, there's...
57:21Yeah, good luck, but the other big news is that there's obviously a position available
57:25here at Front Bar, if you have an IQ of less than 80, you could easily step in.
57:32Why not?
57:33You're heading over to...
57:33Where are you going?
57:34I'm heading to UK.
57:35Yeah.
57:36Yeah, so I'm heading there to play cricket.
57:39But yeah, I've been here seven years, and I've absolutely loved it.
57:41So you're putting that above working on this program.
57:45My time has come, but yeah, no, seven years here, and this is the most time I've spent
57:49with the three of you, so thank you very much for that.
57:52I really appreciate it.
57:56You're heading over there on a plane, I take it?
58:00Yes.
58:00Yeah.
58:01Not a great time to be flying.
58:03No, not.
58:05Anyway, good luck, mate.
58:06Just be careful, I've got a really bad feeling about that flight.
58:09I do, I do too.
58:11I almost missed my flight, because drip tray went so long.
58:15That's right.
58:19We'll all miss you.
58:21We'll always appreciate your lack of attention to hygiene.
58:26Have you got any thank yous?
58:27No, thank you to you three.
58:28I really appreciate it.
58:29It's been an absolute pleasure.
58:34And there's a mountain of people behind the cameras that no one sees.
58:38It's just such a good crew to work on, so thank you.
58:40Back to us.
58:42More importantly, you three, Moon, Sticky.
58:44No, you're a star.
58:44Thank you very much.
58:46All three best.
58:47What about some tears or something?
58:48I teared up in the package.
58:50Nice.
58:51They didn't get too big on me, Sam?
58:53No, it got too big on me.
58:55Well done, mate.
58:55Thank you for everything.
58:56We really appreciate it.
58:57All the people here talking about it.
59:03Thanks to Andrew Dillon and Josh Gunston joining us on the show.
59:07Big show coming up next week.
59:09Michael Ropes and Lawrence Moody.
59:11And we're out of the way here behind Potsdam here.
59:15And now......
59:18...
