00:00Hey, bakers, who wants to make it into the finale?
00:02Me!
00:03Hey.
00:04Last time, the bakers created animal helper dessert.
00:07Can I put this in the bus?
00:08No, we actually...
00:09Oh, sorry.
00:10Abigail and Kenneth grabbed the win.
00:13You can see it's like water, right?
00:15It's just like cherry juice.
00:16And Macy and Emmett's run came to an end.
00:19I'm so sorry, you two.
00:20Now, you're in the finale!
00:24The baking championship next-gen finale.
00:39We're so excited that we made it into the finale.
00:41We never, like, really thought that we would actually make it this far.
00:44Out of 24 great bakers, we would be part of the top three.
00:49Hi, bakers!
00:50Congratulations!
00:51You made it to the finale!
00:53Yay!
00:56It was a tough road getting here, and believe me,
01:00it's not about to get any easier,
01:02because so much is on the line.
01:05We've put you through challenges that tested your skills,
01:09tested your ability to work as a team,
01:12and tested your nerves.
01:14Yeah.
01:15And the entire time,
01:16you were all headed for this momentous final challenge.
01:21The last gauntlet that will determine everything.
01:25Today, you three teams are going to battle it out.
01:30And the winning team will leave here as next-gen baking champions
01:35with $25,000.
01:38Woo!
01:40I'm here to win.
01:41If we lost, I would do what I did
01:44when we lost the soccer tournament
01:46by one goal with two minutes left in Decatur.
01:50What'd you do?
01:51Go to my room for the rest of the day.
01:55But to get your hands on all that cash,
01:59you'll have to take on the most diabolical challenge
02:02we could come up with.
02:03Very comforting.
02:06This will test everything you've learned so far.
02:10Okay.
02:10Siblings are the ultimate team,
02:12and you'll need to rely on each other more than ever.
02:16Ready to find out what it is?
02:18Yes!
02:18Yes!
02:19Yes!
02:20Yes!
02:21I'm going to show you how to make a zoetrope cake.
02:25A what?
02:26That sounds fancy.
02:27The zoetrope was one of the first ways
02:29people experienced animation in the 1800s.
02:33Now, here is a simple round cake.
02:37Now, I put decorations on it in a pattern
02:40that when you spin it,
02:42makes them look like they're moving up and down.
02:44I have one last diamond to add to the pattern.
02:48I rolled out some fondant.
02:51Now, I'm going to use a cookie cutter
02:53because I want all these shapes to be the same
02:56to really pull off the illusion.
02:59So here's my last diamond,
03:03but plain fondant's a little boring.
03:06Yeah.
03:06So what I'm going to do
03:08is edge it with a lighter color
03:10to add a little more dimension,
03:12and it becomes a lot more interesting.
03:16In order to make it look animated,
03:18when you spin it,
03:19you have to evenly space out your decorations.
03:23And to create the idea of movement,
03:26you need to place them at different heights.
03:28Okay, yeah.
03:29Now, here's the magic part.
03:32If I spin this,
03:34you'll see the decorations
03:36going up and down
03:39like it's animated.
03:41Whoa.
03:42Look at that.
03:43That's like, it's like, it's cool.
03:45Yeah, that's crazy.
03:46I like this challenge.
03:47It's really cool.
03:48Wow.
03:49Sometimes using one of these
03:50can really help you see the animation.
03:53So I want to pass them out to you.
03:54Cool.
03:55Yeah.
03:55That's cool.
03:56Okay, now, once your cake is ready,
03:59use your own cake wheel,
04:01put your cake on top,
04:02spin it,
04:03use a paddle,
04:04and see if your animation is working.
04:06And if it's not,
04:07you can adjust,
04:08make sure that everything is evenly spaced,
04:10and make sure you have that up and down.
04:13Okay, bakers,
04:14in order to become baking champs,
04:17you'll have to create
04:18your very own animated cake.
04:20This challenge is all about working together.
04:24So we want to give a little advantage
04:25to the team who won the most recent challenge,
04:28and that is Abigail and Kenneth.
04:32Duff and I selected three shapes
04:34to feature on your animated cakes.
04:36We have hearts,
04:38stars,
04:40We need stars.
04:41And flowers.
04:44Abigail and Kenneth,
04:45you two will get to assign each team their shape.
04:48Oh!
04:49So, which shape do you want for yourselves?
04:51Stars.
04:52Yeah, but stars,
04:53they have like a fancy point.
04:54This choice could definitely help us win.
04:57I'm going to be extremely strategic about it.
04:59We'll take hearts.
05:01We'll take hearts.
05:02Hearts it is.
05:04Who gets stars?
05:05Let's get stars, stars, stars.
05:07Stars?
05:07Okay.
05:08Now,
05:10who gets stars?
05:12Jesus.
05:14Kira and Leah.
05:15Kira and Leah.
05:16Why is that?
05:18Because they have flimsy points.
05:19Because they have flimsy points
05:21and they're hard.
05:21What?
05:22Shots fired.
05:24What is happening?
05:25Still think I'm using a cookie cutter.
05:27Yeah.
05:28I give the stars to Kira and Leah
05:30because they do have confidence
05:32in their fondant work,
05:34but the stars are pointy
05:36and they can break.
05:37You are playing to win, Abigail,
05:39and I love it.
05:40Okay, so that means
05:42Genesis and Akbar,
05:44you are getting flowers.
05:46And then the flowers,
05:47they're also very breakable.
05:49Just cross my fingers
05:50that neither team can deal with it.
05:52Yeah, well, in the finale,
05:53you kind of have to play to win.
05:55You got to play to win.
05:56That's right, kid.
05:57He's 25K on the line.
05:58All right.
05:59To walk away champions,
06:01you've got to create
06:03insanely delicious
06:05and visually stunning animated cakes.
06:09Okay.
06:09Okay.
06:10Okay.
06:11It can be one or two tiers,
06:13up to you.
06:14But remember,
06:16this is the finale.
06:18We're giving you five hours
06:21for this challenge.
06:22Yes!
06:22Yes!
06:24Five hours.
06:24Because you're going to need it.
06:25Yeah.
06:26Yes.
06:26Oh, that's comforting.
06:28You need to get the measurements,
06:30flavors,
06:30and decorations
06:31just right.
06:33So if we do want to win,
06:34we have to work hard for it.
06:36Take a deep breath.
06:38Because your baking time starts
06:42now!
06:44So we're right here.
06:45Oh, gosh.
06:47I was thinking we do
06:48a double-tiered cake
06:50with a chocolate.
06:51Uh-huh.
06:52Chocolate cake
06:53with, like, uh,
06:55Ken, uh...
06:56Knetka?
06:56Ketifee?
06:57Ketifee filling,
06:59pistachios,
06:59and sorry buttercream.
07:00Uh-huh.
07:00Wait, that's such a good idea.
07:01Let's do a...
07:03I'm just going to say a crunch cake
07:04because we haven't done that at all.
07:06Okay.
07:06With a caramel buttercream,
07:08and we're going to do, like,
07:08our design stuff.
07:09Abby, wait!
07:10I need you to tie my apron.
07:14I'll just get a bunch of flour
07:16and sugar.
07:17Yeah.
07:18I want to win all of it
07:18really badly right now
07:19because we made it this far.
07:21Might as well win.
07:23Ooh.
07:23Um...
07:24Lame.
07:27We made it this far.
07:28I want to win it
07:29so that I can take $2,000
07:31and buy everything I want.
07:34He wants to be the baking champion
07:36because he wants fame and fortune.
07:38That's so true.
07:38I want to be the baking champion
07:39because I want to be the baking champion
07:41because that's the part I want.
07:44We haven't made chocolate cake
07:45yet in this competition,
07:47and I make a really good chocolate cake.
07:49So we are making a chocolate cake
07:52with blackberry filling
07:54and hazelnuts.
07:56I really like the pop of blackberry
08:00with chocolate.
08:00Oh, yeah.
08:01Our plan to decorate
08:03is have our bottom tier
08:04be very, very pale sunset colors
08:07with the orange hearts
08:09with the orange hearts
08:09as our zoetrope.
08:11And then the top tier
08:12will be darker sunset colors
08:14that says heart of the land.
08:17Here's your coffee.
08:19I wanted to read heart of the land
08:20because that's basically
08:22what our entire life revolves around,
08:25is land.
08:25We have 3,000 acres of farm ground
08:28that we farm,
08:29and we grow corn and soybeans.
08:33So everything we do everywhere we go
08:36revolves around what season it is
08:39and how good we're doing with the grain.
08:42Why do we put coffee in chocolate cake?
08:45I don't know.
08:46The coffee is often used with chocolate
08:48because it brings out chocolate flavor,
08:50as long as you don't use too much.
08:52Through the competition,
08:53Duff and Cartier have wanted to see
08:56more flavors from us.
08:58I think this cake is going to win it all for us
09:00because it's delicious.
09:02There's multiple different flavors working together,
09:04and it's going to be beautiful.
09:09How's it going, guys?
09:10Good.
09:11Pretty good.
09:11How are you guys doing?
09:12We're doing good.
09:13This is truly the biggest challenge
09:15these kids will ever take on
09:17in this kitchen.
09:18Absolutely.
09:20$25,000.
09:22It smells amazing.
09:23We haven't done anything
09:24like a Zola trophy cake before.
09:26I think it's going to be pretty difficult for us
09:28because we've just had a lot of issues
09:32with decorating,
09:32so we have to make a big decorated cake.
09:36I think we can do it, though.
09:37Yeah, we can do it.
09:38I think we can do it, though.
09:39All right, Genesis and Akbar.
09:41Hi.
09:42Hi.
09:42You guys made it to the finale.
09:45Yes.
09:45Yes.
09:46How do you feel?
09:47I feel really good.
09:48How was your journey?
09:50Making it through challenges, going up and down,
09:53because you've been in the bottom, and winning.
09:55It's, like, kind of still mind-blowing,
09:56because I didn't even think we'd make it this far.
09:59So it's still setting in.
10:01It's still setting in.
10:01Right.
10:02You've got to stay in the moment while you can,
10:04but also keep your eye on the prize.
10:06Yes.
10:07What are you going to do with your half of the money?
10:09We're going to give each of our siblings $1,000.
10:12Yeah.
10:13That's awfully generous.
10:14Yeah.
10:15I want to use it to keep starting on my business,
10:17but obviously I'm going to spend, like, a little.
10:19A little, you know?
10:20Yeah.
10:20A new pair of sneakers.
10:21Yes.
10:22I'm going to go shopping.
10:23Hey, I know that's right.
10:24Get me some new drawing supplies.
10:27Nice.
10:28So what kind of cake are you making?
10:29So we're making a sweet potato upside-down crunch cake
10:31with a caramel buttercream.
10:34What?
10:35Upside-down?
10:36Yes.
10:36So it has, like, the bottom of it is a graham cracker crumbs,
10:39like, crust.
10:40Yeah.
10:40And it'll have sweet potato pie filling,
10:41then it's like a cake filling.
10:42Uh-huh.
10:43And you'll turn it upside-down so the crust is on top.
10:45You're baking in a crunch layer.
10:47Yes.
10:48Have you done this before?
10:50Yes.
10:50Okay.
10:51What's your shape?
10:52Flowers.
10:53Flowers.
10:53Yes.
10:54Okay.
10:54So we're going to do pink flowers with green stems
10:58to look like the flowers are growing.
11:00Nice.
11:00And then we'll top the cake with yellow buttercream swirls,
11:04blue-coating chocolate flowers,
11:06and fondant lollipops.
11:08I need to get out of the way.
11:09Pretty much.
11:10I got it.
11:11I got it, Q.
11:12All right.
11:12Bye.
11:14I'm putting my cake batter
11:15onto my sweet potato crunch filling, so.
11:19So we want to do sweet potato pie filling in the finale
11:22because we have done a sweet potato pie filling before,
11:25and the judges really liked it.
11:27Your sweet potato pie filling is so luscious.
11:31It's delicious.
11:33Wow.
11:33And this is like sweet potato pie in a cake.
11:42Slow down.
11:43From the trials to coming to the finale,
11:45we've been in the top a couple times,
11:46we've won a couple times.
11:48We haven't been in the bottom yet,
11:50and we're super, like, excited and anxious at the same time
11:54because this is our final bake.
11:57It needs to be very impressive
11:58and still tastes good and look good,
12:00and so it's definitely a lot,
12:01but we're so excited, and we're so close.
12:03We really want to earn that money.
12:05We're going to buy chocolate-themed cake
12:07with a chocolate cake
12:09and strawberry buttercream with kataifi
12:11and our pistachio butter filling.
12:13So our inspiration for our Flavor Our Cake
12:15is the Fire World Dubai chocolates,
12:17and then more recently,
12:18people have been adding,
12:20doing, like, cups with them,
12:21where it's, like, cut up strawberries
12:23with the kataifi mixture and the chocolate.
12:26How's it going?
12:27Done.
12:28So Duff and Cardia have been telling us
12:30for this whole competition
12:31to make sure our flavors
12:33are super-duper balanced, bold, and bright.
12:36Yeah, so we're going to focus on that.
12:37The shape that we got assigned is stars.
12:40I'm actually fine with stars
12:41because I like making things gold,
12:43and gold stars are really pretty.
12:44So we're planning to decorate the 10-inch
12:46with kind of do some splatters of chocolate,
12:49and we want to put the words Next Gen on it in gold
12:51to match our gold stars,
12:52and the 8-inch is going to be
12:53our galaxy buttercream with the stars,
12:56and then we're planning to put
12:57kind of, like, a sun on top.
13:00It's just nice and smooth.
13:02We've never made this cake.
13:03We've made all components separately,
13:05but never in a cake.
13:06So this is definitely something new,
13:08and doing something new on the finale
13:11can be risky,
13:11but it also can work out really well.
13:13A little bit more.
13:14Yeah, this is good.
13:14So that one's got a little bit more.
13:15Oh, that's a lot.
13:16Well, it's fine.
13:18Are you sure?
13:19Mm-hmm.
13:19We put our batter in our pans,
13:21weighing them to make sure
13:22we have about the same amount in each pan.
13:24Do you think that's enough?
13:26We're one cake pan short.
13:27We're going to have to make more batter.
13:29Four hours left, Fakers.
13:31Oh, no.
13:32This is really going to slow us down.
13:34Oh.
13:37So we were one cake pan short on batter,
13:40so we have to make more batter in order to...
13:42Yes.
13:43Okay.
13:43In order to keep going.
13:45We had to quickly make some more batter
13:46so we can get our cakes in the oven
13:48so we'll have enough time to do everything else.
13:52Three.
13:52Three and a half hours left.
13:54It all comes down to this cake.
13:57Awkwar.
13:58Awkwar.
13:59Awkwar, come here.
14:00Come here.
14:03Awk.
14:04Come over here.
14:05Oh, ooh.
14:06Oh.
14:07Mama Genesis is in the building.
14:08Yeah.
14:08What?
14:09You need to come help me get these cakes
14:11out of the thing, man.
14:12It's the pressure.
14:13Oh, my gosh.
14:13It's the pressure.
14:14Wow.
14:15Can I use your, um, uh, handmade oven mitts?
14:17Yeah, sure.
14:19Awkwar.
14:23Make sure you stir this.
14:25Kenneth.
14:26Got it.
14:27I have seen so much growth
14:29from Abigail and Kenneth.
14:32Yeah.
14:32I think Kenneth is the reason
14:34why they're in the finale.
14:35Yeah.
14:35Not only has Kenneth stepped up,
14:38Abigail has allowed him to step up.
14:41Yes.
14:42Can you set out a cooling rack
14:43because I have three cakes.
14:44Yep.
14:46Abigail and Kenneth.
14:47Hello.
14:48Okay, so do you think
14:50the day that you walked
14:51into tryouts that you would be here
14:53in the finale today?
14:54Not really.
14:55If I worked hard enough.
14:57Ooh, I like that.
14:58Throughout this journey,
14:59it's been up and down, right?
15:01Mm-hmm.
15:01There's a pass challenge.
15:02You guys won for the very first time.
15:04How did that feel?
15:06It felt great.
15:06It was good.
15:07Yeah.
15:08What if you win?
15:09$25,000.
15:10That'd be awesome.
15:11I promised my whole family
15:12paintball guns.
15:13So I would buy them that,
15:14and then I'd probably just invest it
15:16until I'm 18,
15:17and then I could buy a farm.
15:18Wow.
15:19What would you do, Kenneth?
15:20I'd buy a 3D printer
15:21and then invest it
15:22in the stock market.
15:24Excuse me?
15:25Do you know about the stock market?
15:26I do.
15:28I've played the stock
15:29and bonds multiple times.
15:30If I have a little extra money
15:31and I want to put it in the market,
15:32what should I invest in right now?
15:33Well, it depends
15:35how much money
15:36you're willing to spend
15:37because if you have
15:39a good amount of money
15:40that you want to put into it...
15:41I have $25,000.
15:42No, that's ours.
15:43I definitely...
15:44Ooh.
15:45Ooh.
15:46Ooh, kitchen,
15:47did you hear that?
15:48Ooh.
15:49Ooh.
15:50It's getting spicy.
15:53Let's hope for the best,
15:54all right?
15:54Yes.
15:55Bye.
15:55You can save this whenever.
15:56Okay.
15:57To assemble the cakes,
15:58I put in blackberry buttercream.
16:00I'm going to put a thin thing
16:01of buttercream right there.
16:03Put in the blackberry filling
16:04and then sprinkle
16:05a generous amount
16:06of hazelnuts on top.
16:08Some of them are going to be whole.
16:10Duff, those hazelnuts are huge.
16:13Yeah, they'll chop them up, right?
16:15I hope so.
16:17All right, I'm going to blast chill this one
16:19and then do the other.
16:21Before you start fondant?
16:22Yeah.
16:23My main focus in this challenge
16:24is decorating,
16:25so I'm making the flowers
16:27out of fondant
16:28and painting the edges yellow,
16:30it probably might give
16:31a little more dimension to it.
16:33Oh, this is looking nice.
16:34You know, Kari,
16:35this is interesting.
16:36We did shout-outs
16:36in the try-outs
16:38of people who did well
16:39in different categories.
16:40We did.
16:41Mm-hmm.
16:41Genesis and Akbar
16:42got a shout-out for flavor.
16:44They did.
16:45And look at them now.
16:46They're here.
16:46In the finale.
16:47Yeah.
16:47Making a cake,
16:48which we know
16:49they're amazing at.
16:50Yeah.
16:51But some of their decorating
16:53has been a little iffy.
16:54A little rocky.
16:55And that's because
16:55of time management.
16:56Now they've got five hours.
16:58Yes.
16:59If they use their time right,
17:00I don't think anybody in here
17:01can bake a cake
17:02as well as us.
17:03Ooh.
17:05You did it.
17:06Okay.
17:06Ooh.
17:07To start stacking my cake,
17:08I start with a layer
17:09of my crunch cake,
17:10a layer of buttercream,
17:12another layer of crunch cake,
17:13and then I repeat
17:13until my cake is built.
17:18Wait.
17:19How do I open this?
17:22Oh.
17:24Got the cake done.
17:25Oh, sorry.
17:27Make sure you're getting
17:27all the edges.
17:28Mm-hmm.
17:29For our tube,
17:29I'm feeling,
17:30we just combine our pistachio butter
17:32and toasted katai-fi together.
17:34This is katai-fi,
17:35and it is a Middle Eastern
17:37and Mediterranean
17:38shredded pastry.
17:39It's a good texture
17:40for the cake.
17:41It's really crunchy.
17:42It's also going to add
17:43a lot of flavor,
17:44and so I think the judges
17:46will really love it.
17:47To make the pistachio butter,
17:48I start by blending
17:49my pistachios,
17:50so I add a little bit
17:51of coconut oil and melt it,
17:52and then I add, like,
17:53three or four tablespoons
17:54of tahini into it.
17:56All right, katai-fi's done.
17:59We combine both our katai-fi
18:01and our pistachio butter.
18:02Look at that.
18:04Are you doing, like,
18:05a Dubai chocolate thing?
18:06Oh, yeah.
18:07Nice.
18:08Leah and Kira's flavor journey
18:11has been up and down.
18:12They've made some stuff
18:13that's been beautiful
18:14and not delicious.
18:16Yep.
18:16But they have made some stuff
18:18that has been delicious.
18:20Do you like a tahini mixture
18:22going in the middle?
18:23When all of our components
18:24are ready,
18:24we start to assemble.
18:25Okay, we'll put this here.
18:26I start by piping
18:27some strawberry buttercream,
18:29add a mixture in,
18:29and then I do all my layers.
18:31Three layers is so crazy, Kira.
18:33I started making
18:34two batches of buttercream.
18:35One was white
18:36and one was black.
18:37To make it black,
18:37I had a black cocoa
18:38and a little bit of black dye.
18:40Kira, can you try it again?
18:44Mmm.
18:46Oh, Kira, you're all black.
18:47I am?
18:48Your mouth is...
18:50Smile.
18:52That's hilarious.
18:53Once it's all stacked,
18:54I started piping the black cake.
18:57It's supposed to represent,
18:58like, space,
18:58kind of like a galaxy.
19:00And I start making the stars.
19:02Leah and Kira,
19:03you guys got stars.
19:04Hello.
19:06Look at that.
19:07So, Kira,
19:08your half of the cake
19:09could be worth $12,500.
19:11Yes.
19:12What are you going to do
19:13if you went?
19:13Um, honestly,
19:15I'm going to save a lot of it,
19:16you know,
19:17for college and stuff.
19:18And I'm going to definitely
19:20buy another stand mixer,
19:21more equipment for,
19:22you know,
19:23my home little bakery.
19:24Yeah.
19:25Um,
19:25I'm probably going to save
19:26most of it.
19:27And I'll probably buy
19:29some new horse stuff.
19:30Perfect.
19:30Okay,
19:31what are we making here?
19:32Okay,
19:33so these are the stars
19:34for our galaxy-themed cake.
19:36A galaxy?
19:37Do you guys like space?
19:39Yeah, I like space.
19:40Space is pretty cool.
19:40Yeah?
19:40Whoa,
19:41that looks awesome.
19:42Awesome space?
19:44I just want to watch
19:45this happen for a second.
19:45Okay.
19:46This one is going to be
19:48where our, um...
19:49Zoetrope.
19:50Zoetrope.
19:51Are you kidding?
19:51I always forget the name.
19:53Zoetrope stars
19:53are going to move along
19:55and look like it's animated.
19:57Awesome.
19:58Good luck, ladies.
19:59Do a good job.
20:00Then I take buttercream
20:01and I make white speckles
20:03to look kind of like
20:04more stars, I guess.
20:05Kira,
20:06do you think this is done?
20:07Do whatever you think, Leah.
20:08Two hours left.
20:10How are you guys doing
20:10on your cakes?
20:12They're doing pretty good.
20:13I'm good.
20:13Good.
20:14Nice.
20:16I want to add some color
20:18to the cake,
20:18so I do a purple color spray
20:22around my cake
20:23to give it a little more life.
20:25Whoa!
20:27Why is it not spraying
20:28consistently how I want it?
20:32As I am spraying
20:34the color onto my cake,
20:35I see that there are dark spots
20:38and I really don't want that,
20:39so I try to go in
20:40and smooth it out,
20:40but it makes,
20:43looks like the cake
20:43is uneven.
20:44It's every time
20:45I keep spraying it,
20:46it's like it keeps going
20:47into chunks
20:48and then I have to wipe it off.
20:49This is not good
20:50and this is not how
20:51I wanted my finale cake to go.
20:56I don't know
20:57what's going on,
20:58so we're going to have
20:59to figure out a way
21:00to fix this.
21:00So I go in
21:02and try to smooth it out
21:03to give it like
21:04a gradient technique.
21:06Oh, I see you, Picasso.
21:08And it has actually worked.
21:10It looks really nice.
21:11How much time do we have left?
21:1390 minutes left.
21:1490 minutes left?
21:16Okay.
21:16Remember,
21:17you've got to make those cakes
21:19animated masterpieces.
21:21And that cake
21:21better taste great, too.
21:22What if we like
21:24did kind of a yellow
21:25with it also?
21:26Like,
21:26knead them together
21:27so they're all the same color?
21:29Yes.
21:29But it needs to really pop.
21:31It needs to be bright.
21:32I will be cutting out
21:33the hearts out of fondant.
21:35So I mix orange
21:36and yellow fondant
21:37to make kind of
21:38a lighter orange
21:39and cut a ton of hearts.
21:41It's hard to believe
21:42that this cake
21:43could be worth $25,000.
21:45Just focus on moving it.
21:47So the bottom tier
21:48is really, really pale
21:49sunset colors.
21:50I'm going to
21:52pipe very pale shades
21:54of yellow, orange, and pink
21:56on my bottom tier
21:57of my cake.
21:58Kenny, look it.
22:00Oh, that's incredible, Abby.
22:03Well, I did make
22:04the buttercream.
22:07To get the zoetrop to work,
22:09every heart needs
22:10to be almost exactly
22:11the same.
22:11This should work
22:13because each one
22:13goes here
22:14and they need to be
22:15in even straight lines,
22:17evenly spaced apart.
22:18And this is the part
22:19that I'm going to be
22:20so picky on
22:21because that's
22:22the actual challenge
22:24and that's what
22:25needs to be important.
22:26All right, Pythagoras.
22:31So, what's happening?
22:32Don't talk to Abby.
22:34She's busy.
22:36Each of these
22:38is 22 inches.
22:40Yeah.
22:40And with how big
22:41my hearts are,
22:43when they're arranged
22:44in the triangle,
22:44there's the same gap
22:46between every single
22:47one of them.
22:47And then I cut
22:48the measure of each
22:49of them in half,
22:50trace that down,
22:51and then each bottom one
22:52will be the exact same
22:54distance from each other.
22:55Did you invent
22:56this process?
22:57My mom's a math teacher,
22:58so I do a lot of math.
22:59Okay.
22:59So it's very helpful.
23:01Gotcha.
23:01Kenneth, has Abigail
23:03been shushing you?
23:04She told me just,
23:06when I'm putting
23:06the hearts on,
23:07just don't talk to me
23:08or you'll get mad
23:09because I'm going
23:10to snap at you.
23:13All right.
23:14Farm kids,
23:15do a good job.
23:17All right.
23:18Spin.
23:19A little faster.
23:22Once the zoetrope
23:23is on the cake,
23:24we're making sure
23:25that we test it a lot.
23:28It's so cool.
23:29And make sure
23:30it looks like
23:30the exact same image
23:32is moving up and down.
23:33Wait, you do it.
23:34Spin it evenly.
23:36You know what, Duff?
23:36What's so cool
23:37about this animated
23:38cakes challenge
23:39is that it requires
23:40a lot of teamwork.
23:42Yeah, this is about
23:43the engineering.
23:45Yes.
23:45This is about, like,
23:47making sure that
23:48everything is evenly spaced.
23:49Okay.
23:50Making sure you have
23:50the pattern just right.
23:52And you need
23:53a second set
23:54of eyeballs.
23:55Yes.
23:56It works.
23:57It works.
23:57I don't have to redo it.
23:59Because it works.
23:59It's like hypnotizing.
24:02I'm kind of going to do,
24:03like, a splatter design,
24:04like Jackson Pollock
24:05my cake.
24:07Whoa.
24:08This is cool, right?
24:09The bottom tier,
24:10we're thinking, like,
24:12staying true,
24:13kind of to Dubai chocolates.
24:14They typically have
24:15splattered green and yellow,
24:16but we were going to do
24:17splatter bluish and purplish
24:19because galaxy.
24:20Wow.
24:22Purple really splattered up.
24:23Looks really cool, though.
24:25Look out.
24:26Move your hand.
24:28Okay.
24:28So we decided
24:29to do a white background
24:30on our yellow star
24:31just to make it pop
24:33a little more
24:33because on a black background,
24:35it needs to look vibrant.
24:36Let me do it, please.
24:36My biggest concern
24:38is making the effect,
24:40like, work properly,
24:41making our stars look aligned
24:43and look good, basically,
24:45look neat,
24:45like Jeff showed us.
24:46Here we go.
24:52It's super cool,
24:53but hold on,
24:54there's a mistake.
24:54It's right here.
24:55Yeah.
24:56That's weird.
24:57How are we going to fix that?
24:59Space it out more?
25:01Yes, let's do that.
25:06Our cake is frosted.
25:07Everything is good.
25:08We just have to get our flowers
25:10on to start this animation.
25:12One, two, three, four.
25:14One, two.
25:16One, two, three, four.
25:17We do a zoetrope
25:19of the flowers growing
25:20and getting taller
25:21and then going back down.
25:22No, no, no.
25:23Pause.
25:23That's too close, man.
25:24The other teams
25:25just have the shapes
25:26on their cake
25:26and we made stems on ours,
25:28so we really want ours
25:29to stand out.
25:30Oh, that's going to be cute.
25:31Okay.
25:3130 minutes, get it done.
25:33Use all your decorating skills
25:35to make your cakes come alive.
25:38So I'm in a tractor cab
25:39until, like, late at night,
25:40so I see wide open fields
25:42and you can see, like,
25:43the entire sunset.
25:44The top tier
25:45is going to be, like,
25:46a very dark sunset.
25:48Every one's one thing
25:49I've learned
25:50during this competition.
25:52That you're better
25:53than you think?
25:54I had skills
25:55I didn't know I had.
25:56I am feeling
25:57a lot more confident.
26:01So I'm arranging
26:02raw candy in heart molds
26:04and then I'm going to pour,
26:05like, melted ice and malt
26:06over them
26:06and then put them
26:08around the top tier
26:08of my cake.
26:09Look at that.
26:10I'm a pro.
26:13Sure, look at...
26:13This one's going to have
26:14some orange on it.
26:15Okay.
26:15We decided to put a sun
26:17on top of our cake
26:17and I decided
26:18to make it out of chocolate
26:19and so to make my sun
26:21I took my dome,
26:22I put chocolate in it
26:23and I'm brushing up
26:23the sides to get
26:24an even coat
26:25so it all doesn't
26:26sink to the bottom.
26:26It does not need
26:27very long.
26:28For, like, five seconds.
26:30So right now
26:30I am just picking up
26:32our frozen pistachio
26:34and Kentucky mixture
26:35and then wrap it
26:36around my strawberries
26:37and then dip them
26:38in chocolate
26:38for a nice, crunchy bite.
26:40What are Lee and Kira
26:41doing with those strawberries?
26:43I don't know.
26:44Where would they go?
26:45They're looking good.
26:49Oh, that's cool.
26:50Thanks.
26:51So our plan was
26:52to make this
26:52an interactive cake
26:53so we're going to hide
26:55the Dubai chocolate
26:56strawberries under the sun
26:57so that the judges
26:58can break the top
26:59to reveal the other
27:00little treats inside.
27:01Am I lined up
27:02in line, correct?
27:03Yes.
27:04Okay.
27:05Five minutes.
27:06The championship
27:06is on the line.
27:07Make them, make them,
27:08make them, make them quickly.
27:10Okay, I got it,
27:10I got it, I got it.
27:11I got it.
27:11I need you to make
27:12those little lollipops
27:13to put on the top, okay?
27:14So we want to add
27:15some fondant lollipops
27:16to the top of the cake.
27:17So we roll out
27:19three different colors
27:20of fondant
27:21and then roll them together
27:23and then like
27:24twist them
27:25to like make it
27:26look like a lollipop.
27:30Man, good.
27:40We can do this.
27:41All right, quickly
27:42with a quickness.
27:45There we go.
27:46Moving.
27:47Excuse me.
27:48Stop, stop.
27:49I'm gonna, uh...
27:51One minute!
27:51One team is gonna
27:52walk out of here
27:53with 25,000 bucks
27:55in their pocket.
27:56Awkward.
27:57Quickly.
27:58Right here.
28:03This is so nerve-wracking.
28:05Ten seconds!
28:06Whoa.
28:08Spinning around.
28:10I'm still gonna test it.
28:14We're good.
28:16That's it!
28:17It all comes down
28:19to this.
28:20That was pretty good.
28:22Does your guys' work?
28:23Or what?
28:24Illusion.
28:25Yeah.
28:25Did you test it?
28:26No.
28:27No?
28:27Okay.
28:28So we didn't get
28:29to use the zoetrope,
28:30but from turning it,
28:31I think it looks
28:32like an animation.
28:33I hope,
28:34since that is the challenge.
28:37For our final challenge,
28:39we really pushed
28:41our bakers to the limit.
28:42Yeah, because this time
28:44it's not just about
28:45flavor and decoration,
28:47but it's also about animation.
28:50I love this challenge.
28:52Let's go.
28:52Genesis and Akbar!
28:55I'm scared.
28:56We're about to go
28:57into judging,
28:57and my biggest concern
29:00is probably
29:01just the flowers.
29:03Look at those
29:04spring flowers.
29:05Look at that.
29:07Tell us about your cake.
29:08Okay, so we made
29:08a sweet potato
29:09upside-down crunch cake.
29:10We got the shaped flowers,
29:12so for our animation,
29:13the stems will grow,
29:14and then they'll, like,
29:14come back down.
29:16So, yeah.
29:17Oh!
29:19Like a garden growing.
29:20Yes.
29:21How has your journey been
29:22from, like,
29:23the tryout to now?
29:24If it was a rollercoaster,
29:26it would have been
29:27the most fun rollercoaster ever.
29:29It would have been
29:30up and down and up,
29:32and it's just a lot of things.
29:34Yeah.
29:35We definitely both
29:36got to see each other's skills.
29:37It's really just been
29:38a bonding experience for us.
29:40You have been
29:40on the bottom a few times,
29:41and I'm glad that you
29:43took all of the advice.
29:44And you began to rise
29:45like your flowers.
29:47Okay, so,
29:48the cake is so fun.
29:50It's so much personality.
29:51The purple,
29:52the flowers,
29:54the lollipop.
29:55I love this cake.
29:56It's bright,
29:57and it's colorful.
29:58It's got a ton of movement,
29:59even when it's not moving.
30:01You know, it really does.
30:02Now,
30:03your flowers themselves,
30:04your pattern,
30:06it looks to me like
30:07you didn't have
30:07much of a plan.
30:09It's very irregular.
30:10To get a smooth animation,
30:12you really want to have
30:14kind of regular spacing.
30:16You want to be pretty consistent
30:17all the way around.
30:18Okay.
30:19All right,
30:19the proof is in the pudding.
30:20Let's spin the cake.
30:22Okay.
30:24Oh.
30:26Okay.
30:27It.
30:28It.
30:29It.
30:31Yeah, I think,
30:31you know,
30:32the animation,
30:33it's flowing,
30:34it's doing its thing,
30:35it's up,
30:35it's down,
30:36and then it drops.
30:37It's not smooth.
30:38So, I think it's like
30:39two-thirds successful.
30:41Okay.
30:42Let's try some cake.
30:43Okay.
30:43So,
30:44the base of our cake
30:45is a Speculose
30:46Graham Cracker
30:47Cookie Crust,
30:48and then it has
30:49a sweet potato
30:50filling layer.
30:51Oh!
30:52Whoa!
30:53And a yellow
30:54butter cake layer.
30:55Filled with caramel
30:56butter cream.
30:57Golly!
30:58You're welcome.
30:59Thank you, Akbar.
31:01God, look at that.
31:02It's a cake and a pie.
31:04Wow.
31:08I love your sweet potato
31:10pie filling.
31:12It is delicious.
31:13Coupled with, like,
31:14that cookie crumb
31:15is really, really good.
31:16I think the problem
31:18comes in with your sponge.
31:21Your sponge is dense,
31:23like, overworked.
31:24Mm-hmm.
31:25Totally delicious.
31:26Doing, like,
31:27a cookie crunch
31:28inside of a cake
31:29is so smart.
31:30What a beautiful texture
31:32to have.
31:32Just the sponge itself,
31:34not what I expected.
31:35Overall, though,
31:36you made an absolutely
31:37beautiful cake
31:38with incredible flavor.
31:41Bye-bye, guys.
31:42Nice job, you too.
31:43I feel pretty good
31:43about everything.
31:44It was just the little
31:46stop in our animation
31:47and then the cake
31:48was a little dance,
31:49but everything else
31:49they said was really good,
31:50so I'm really,
31:51really proud of what we did.
31:55Abigail and Kenneth.
31:58Going into our final judging,
32:00I'm feeling kind of nervous.
32:03Hello, farm kids.
32:04Please tell us
32:06about your cake.
32:07So we made
32:08a chocolate cake
32:09with blackberry filling,
32:11blackberry buttercream,
32:13and toasted hazelnuts,
32:15and then frosted it
32:16in just a plain
32:16American buttercream.
32:17And then the decorations are...
32:19I'll do the decorations.
32:20Okay.
32:21The decorations
32:22are fondant hearts,
32:25obviously.
32:26And then,
32:27what are they called, Abby?
32:29Isomalt.
32:29So isomalt hearts,
32:32basically.
32:32The inspiration
32:33of the colors
32:34is the beautiful sunsets
32:36we get where we live.
32:37So let me ask you this.
32:38How has the experience
32:39been for you both?
32:41It's been amazing.
32:42The experience
32:43has been incredible.
32:44He was an amazing help.
32:46Okay.
32:46I probably couldn't have done it
32:47with just one person.
32:48Do you think that
32:50your relationship
32:51with your brother
32:52has evolved a little bit?
32:53Definitely.
32:54Yeah?
32:54I definitely got to know
32:55his personality better.
32:56Yeah?
32:57Do you trust him
32:57a little more?
32:58A little bit more.
32:59Yeah?
32:59I think I've had enough
33:00baking for a while, though.
33:03All right.
33:05Presentation-wise,
33:06I see the sunset,
33:07and the isomalt hearts
33:08are so cool
33:09because it has
33:10so much texture,
33:11and the color of it
33:13is so beautiful.
33:14This soft orange,
33:15it's like,
33:15this is a very soft cake.
33:17Your cake
33:18is really beautiful.
33:19It's really, really nice.
33:21Your piping is pretty even.
33:23It's not perfect,
33:24but it's pretty even.
33:26Now here comes
33:27the moment of truth.
33:29Spin that cake, Abigail.
33:34It's so good.
33:35Oh, my gosh.
33:37Abigail,
33:39the time you took
33:41to measure those out
33:42absolutely paid off.
33:45Your animation
33:46is so smooth.
33:49Look at that.
33:50Now let's cut it up.
33:52Okay.
33:53Mm-hmm.
33:54Thank you, Abigail.
33:55Awesome.
33:56Thank you, Kenneth.
33:57Look at that cake.
33:59Look how thick.
34:06This,
34:07this is really,
34:09really good
34:10quality chocolate cake.
34:12Your blackberry filling
34:13is delicious.
34:14It's nice and sweet.
34:15It's not too acidic.
34:16It's right what I want
34:17with this.
34:19I'm not a fan
34:21of the hazelnuts.
34:22Okay.
34:22I think that
34:23maybe if you chopped
34:24them up a little more.
34:26Okay.
34:26But it's just,
34:27it's so big.
34:28It was like such
34:28a big hazelnut.
34:30Okay.
34:32Your blackberry frosting
34:35is delicious.
34:37I could just eat
34:37a tub of that.
34:38The star of the show
34:39is the sponge.
34:41It is so, like,
34:42soft,
34:43pillowy,
34:43and melts in your mouth.
34:45It's really,
34:45really good.
34:46All right.
34:46For the last time,
34:47Abigail and Kenneth,
34:48thank you so much.
34:49Thank you, guys.
34:50It's all over.
34:51I don't know if that
34:52one bad thing.
34:53It wasn't that bad.
34:55It was just hazelnuts.
34:59Hello, Leah and Kira.
35:01What do you got?
35:02Today we made
35:03a Dubai chocolate-themed cake
35:06with strawberry buttercream.
35:08And Dubai chocolate
35:10is, like,
35:11the ketice mixture
35:13with pistachio paste.
35:15And then we did
35:16our stars where
35:17our, like, designs,
35:19like, you know,
35:20we want to kind of
35:20make it look like
35:21a shooting star,
35:22kind of, kind of like that,
35:23going up and down.
35:24And then we have
35:25a sun on top.
35:26So it's space,
35:27kind of galaxy-themed.
35:29But this is also
35:30kind of an interactive cake
35:31because there's stuff
35:31hidden in the sun.
35:33Really?
35:34Yes.
35:35Well, that's exciting.
35:37Yeah!
35:38What was your experience
35:39like in the kitchen?
35:40So it was definitely
35:41a lot of fun.
35:42A little bit stressful
35:43at times,
35:44but it was definitely
35:45a lot of fun
35:45because I got to work
35:46with my sibling
35:47on these wonderful cakes.
35:49And we got to meet you guys.
35:51So it's been
35:51especially amazing.
35:52Do you think you guys
35:53got a little closer?
35:54For sure.
35:55Oh, yeah, 100%.
35:56You go through battle
35:56with somebody, right?
35:57You definitely, right?
35:59You get a lot closer.
36:01All right.
36:01Well, I love space.
36:03And I just,
36:04I really enjoy your cake.
36:05The way that you got
36:07these very subtle colors.
36:09You know,
36:09it looks like
36:10the Oort cloud.
36:12A bunch of stuff
36:14flying around in space
36:15at a specific distance
36:17away from the Earth
36:18because of gravity.
36:19We have this thing
36:20called the Oort cloud
36:21named after a guy
36:24whose last name
36:24was Oort.
36:25And he discovered it.
36:27It's a thing.
36:28The Oort cloud.
36:30Your top tier
36:31is so fun and dark.
36:33And it's very different
36:34from what we've seen
36:34from you all.
36:36All right, girls.
36:37Let it rip.
36:40I can't believe it.
36:41Yeah, it kind of goes like
36:42up, down, up, down.
36:43Oh.
36:45Oh.
36:47Wow.
36:48Yeah, I see the motion.
36:49That's awesome.
36:51But what does it taste like?
36:54As you can see,
36:55a little bit of surprise
36:55in there.
36:56Oh, nice.
36:58Is that chocolate
36:58covered strawberries?
36:59Dubai chocolate
37:00covered strawberries.
37:01Oh.
37:02Wow.
37:03Oh, yeah,
37:03that looks great.
37:05It's a big old strawberry.
37:07It is.
37:10There's a lot
37:10of layers to it.
37:11Oh, there's a lot
37:13in there.
37:13Yeah.
37:14The flavor is good,
37:16and I like the combination.
37:17I'm glad you kind of
37:18added the strawberry
37:18for some acidity
37:21and brighten it up
37:21a little bit.
37:22This is a good,
37:23dense chocolate cake.
37:24I think your cocoa flavor
37:25is great.
37:26It's not bitter.
37:27I think your strawberry
37:28buttercream is a little sweet,
37:30but it's also really good.
37:32Those two together
37:32is absolutely delicious.
37:34I think where you stumbled
37:36was the pistachio.
37:38In a cake,
37:40the texture,
37:40it's just too much.
37:42Okay.
37:43You guys were so much fun.
37:44Thank you so much
37:45for everything
37:46you've baked for us.
37:47Absolutely.
37:47Good luck.
37:49Bye.
37:50Bye.
37:54I think we have a shooting
37:55chance, but...
37:56Like a shooting star.
37:57Yeah.
37:57I think we do have a shooting chance.
37:59You know,
37:59I obviously don't know
38:00what happened
38:00with the other people,
38:01and it's going to be
38:03a surprise.
38:03Yep.
38:05Cartier,
38:05I think that these bakers
38:07did some of their best work
38:08of the entire competition.
38:10Yeah,
38:11they took on
38:11a lot of chances
38:12in the finale,
38:13especially Genesis and Aquaman.
38:15Huh?
38:16This the cake batter?
38:17Yeah.
38:17Genesis made
38:18a upside-down,
38:21sweet potato pie,
38:23crunch cake.
38:24What?
38:25It was crazy,
38:27but very,
38:28very flavorful.
38:29Yeah,
38:30you know,
38:30the sponge was a little tough.
38:31Yeah.
38:32But the pie was silky
38:34and gooey and luscious.
38:36Mm-hmm.
38:37Let's just,
38:37uh,
38:38let's just take a look.
38:39Okay.
38:40It was really beautiful,
38:42really fun.
38:43I like that they,
38:44you know,
38:44they had all these flowers,
38:46these different sizes.
38:47They were cute.
38:48But there's like,
38:48there's a skip.
38:49Yeah.
38:50With their animation.
38:52Mm-hmm.
38:52Abigail and Kenneth.
38:53It looks really good.
38:54They gave us chocolate cake
38:56with blackberry filling
38:58and toasted hazelnut.
39:00I loved the cake.
39:01Yeah.
39:01And the,
39:02the blackberries were sweet
39:04and juicy and lovely.
39:06Yeah, yeah.
39:06I did not like
39:08a big old hazelnut in there.
39:10The hazelnut was an afterthought.
39:12And you know,
39:12I think Abigail and Kenneth
39:13did really nice work too.
39:15That sunset on their farm.
39:17You know,
39:17I gotta tell you,
39:18their heart decorations
39:19were beautiful.
39:21So clean.
39:21It,
39:22very clean.
39:23Like,
39:23clear animation,
39:25up and down,
39:26no breaks.
39:27Lee and Kira.
39:29Okay.
39:29That was a really
39:30well-crafted dome.
39:32And boom,
39:33obviously successful,
39:34right?
39:35It animates.
39:35Yeah.
39:36I loved their flavor profile
39:39of, like,
39:39mixing the strawberry
39:40with the chocolate,
39:41with the kataifi
39:42and the pistachio.
39:43Like,
39:43it was very,
39:44like,
39:44I like the flavor combination.
39:46The pistachio layer
39:47was just thick.
39:48Yes.
39:49Well,
39:50you know who,
39:51you know who's winning?
39:52I think so.
39:54Yeah?
39:55Yeah.
39:55I do too.
39:58Bakers!
39:59You gave us
40:00an animated
40:01triple feature
40:02of flavor
40:03by creating
40:04edible entertainment.
40:06All of you
40:07did such
40:08phenomenal work
40:09all season.
40:10And not just
40:11for young bakers,
40:12but for bakers
40:12of any age.
40:15You make us
40:16very excited
40:17for the next generation
40:18of baking.
40:20That's good.
40:20But in the end,
40:23after all
40:24the hard work,
40:25one pair of bakers
40:27created an animated cake
40:28that absolutely
40:29blew
40:30our minds.
40:32The bakers
40:34who will walk
40:35out of here
40:36with $25,000
40:38as the next-gen
40:40baking champions
40:42are...
40:52Abigail!
40:53We can't run!
40:55We can't run!
40:56Oh, God!
40:57We just won!
40:59We won!
41:01Oh, God!
41:05We can't get money in you!
41:11I'm going home today
41:13with $25,000!
41:20Good job, guys!
41:23Good job!
41:23How about you?
41:24Yes.
41:25You guys are amazing.
41:26Good job!
41:28My favorite part
41:29of this experience
41:30was probably
41:31getting to bake
41:32with Abigail.
41:34We definitely have
41:35a new type of bond.
41:37I'm sure
41:38when we get home
41:39we'll still fight
41:40like normal
41:40but I think
41:41we'll be definitely
41:42way more comfortable
41:43with each other
41:44in the kitchen.
41:45There won't be
41:46as much yelling.
41:47Oh, my goodness.
41:50That was incredible.
41:51That was
41:51the best reaction.
41:53You did not disappoint.
41:55You okay?
41:56Take a deep breath.
41:57Take a deep breath.
41:58Come here, bring it in.
41:59Great job.
