00:00Freshly restored sections of the Tyne Bridge have been revealed as scaffolding comes down
00:05on part of the bridge. The lower arch along the western footway is now visible again after
00:11months of work on the steelwork beneath the bridge deck. Engineers have been grit-blasting,
00:16repairing and repainting the metal using the bridge's distinctive hollybush green coating.
00:22Inspections previously found corrosion linked to peeling paint,
00:26leaking drains and worn joints. Overnight closures continue until Friday while scaffolding is removed
00:33though pedestrian and cycle routes remain open. Newcastle City Council says work now switches
00:39to the eastern side with completion expected by October 2028.
