00:22What an amazing movie. Tell me about the story.
00:25Oh, well, thanks. The story is about a 78-year-old Carl Fredrickson
00:28who floats his house. He ties thousands of balloons to the roof
00:31and he floats it to South America.
00:33But he accidentally takes along this kid, this 8-year-old kid named Russell,
00:38who is a wilderness explorer.
00:39He's got every single badge, unlike me, you know, I don't have that many,
00:43but he's got everyone except his assisting the elderly badge,
00:46which is why he's after Carl.
00:47So as soon as Carl relents, he will be assisted
00:51and, you know, Russell will get his badge and that's all he wants.

01:09and we wanted somebody to kind of play foil to him, you know.
01:13We knew we wanted him to grow and change
01:15and kind of come out of his shell and reconnect with the world.
01:18And who better to do that than this relentlessly optimistic kid,
01:22you know, who just won't let go.

01:42Carl learns, well, Carl has never been a father, right?
01:46He has always wanted to go on this fantastic adventure
01:49and never had an opportunity.
01:51And so now he's on this adventure begrudgingly with this kid.
01:55But he ends up realizing that the real adventure in life
01:58is the connection between other people.
02:00And so he becomes a father figure to this boy.
02:03And Russell, who is missing his father, gains a father in the trip as well.
02:08So it all works out for both of them.
02:10So they go to this fantastic real world place called,
02:13these things are called tipuis.
02:15They're giant tabletop mountains.
02:17They're like a mile high.
02:18The walls are 90 degrees sheer cliffs.
02:21You can't get up there.
02:23They're so inaccessible that about half of them today
02:26have never been set foot on by anybody.
02:28and so that's where they land on one of these.
02:30And they meet, fantastically enough, a dog who can talk.
02:47Now, it's a little different than you might expect
02:50because most talking dogs in animated films,
02:52you see their lips move and they talk.
02:54and in our movie, Doug has a collar
02:58which allows his thoughts to be translated.
03:09Working here at Pixar, we're trying to do every film you see
03:12is going to be a surprise.
03:14Like, you don't really know what you're going to get.
03:15It's going to be something different.
