00:01Well, police are still at the scene here at Kilkeven Tansy Road, which is about a five-minute drive from
00:08Kilkeven, a small rural town on the outskirts of the Gympie region.
00:12A car was found here near the bridge yesterday, but it was only this morning that police confirmed they have
00:18retrieved two bodies from the vehicle.
00:21They are believed to be two Chinese backpackers, a 26-year-old man and a 23-year-old woman.
00:27It's understood the pair had left Brisbane and were driving to a destination in the North Burnett region when they
00:33failed to reach that destination and the alarm was raised.
00:36There are police divers here and forensic officers as well.
00:39They will no doubt prepare a report for the coroner into this incident.
00:43It also is clear, just looking at the vegetation here, that the creek would have risen rapidly after just a
00:49sheer amount of rain that we've had in the past few days.
00:52Hundreds of millimetres in this region, along with many parts of Queensland.
00:57The Gympie mayor has described this as an absolute tragedy and says that it also highlights the need for more
01:03education for tourists in particular about the dangers of driving on our roads here in Australia, particularly during these extreme
01:10weather events.
