00:01It's been a sad day here in Yamber on New South Wales far north coast.
00:06Police were called here at around 6am this morning after a boat capsized near the Yamber
00:11breakwater.
00:12Two people believed to be in their 50s drowned while another man was rescued by a boat passing
00:18by.
00:19Locals tell us that around 5.30 this morning a flare went off alerting authorities that
00:24people were in trouble.
00:26We spoke to an eyewitness, here's what he had to say.
00:29I saw the boat capsized in the water and boats circling around I believe searching for
00:38people and a few minutes later the helicopter arrived and that's when it went off levers and
00:51was kind of stationary there with other boats circling around and that's when I thought
00:58this could be really serious.
01:00We've been told it was the first big swell of the year which could have made conditions
01:04challenging.
01:05Police are yet to confirm whether the boat was travelling out to sea or that it was coming
01:09back into port.
01:11It follows a double drowning in Shell harbour on the New South Wales south coast.
01:16Surf lifesaving New South Wales say it's been a catastrophic fortnight.
01:20Today's drowning is the 7th and 8th in less than two weeks.
01:24The second half of this.
01:25This is the 7th and 8th and 7th and 8th and 8th and 8th and 8th.
01:25That's how we got to see the ship.
01:25The ship has been on the ship in the ship.
01:25The ship has been on the ship.
01:25And 9th and 8th and 9th.
01:25So we've got to see the ship in the ship.
01:25So let's see the ship.
