00:06I grew up in a large farming community. Tractor pulls, cow tipping. We had a caterpillar plant.
00:13My junior year they closed it down and that whole farming town fantasy was just shattered.

00:38I know from 15 years ago when we were making Good Will Hunting, Gus really favors reality
00:42in the things that he makes. We had always dreamed of working with each other again.
00:46I just trust the guy so implicitly and I told him that I'd co-written something and that
00:50I thought it was really great and two hours later there was a message from Gus saying he wanted to
00:54direct the movie.
00:55For capturing a real place, a real time, real people, Gus is the best director on the planet for that.
01:01John Krasinski came to me in Vancouver with a draft that he had done and we decided to write a
01:05script together.
01:06Working with Matt on this script was completely surreal. He's the only one of us that gets to say Oscar
01:11-winning writer.
01:12We laugh a lot, we write really fast and I'd forgotten how much fun it is to do that.
01:17Gus Van Zandt, Matt, John as a team have been a lot of fun to watch. They're amazing.
01:23Promise Land is a story about this character, Steve. He's working for a giant corporation buying leases for an energy
01:29company.
01:30I can't believe this is right outside the city. It looks like Kentucky.

02:57In order to tell the most authentic story possible, filmmakers decided to shoot Promised
03:01Land in Pennsylvania using the real locations and real residents of the area.
03:06If you put actors in the actual place where it's happening and you cast actual people from
03:12the small town, they're better.

03:17Having it in a real place adds another element.
03:20We've been doing a lot of joking around and got to high-five Matt.
