00:05We shot on Earls Peak, which is a mountain peak
00:08in the middle of Iceland, really in the middle of nowhere.
00:10Glaciers on one side,
00:12black sand desert on the other.
00:14It was one of those experiences that you dream about
00:16as a director, about
00:17going to places that most people have never seen
00:20and getting to capture it all in camera.
00:25Today is day 71
00:28here in lovely Iceland.
00:30We are sort of out of the beaten track.
00:32We had to bring all our gear up here.
00:34Today we had seven buckets loaded up
00:36by our professional mountaineers,
00:37and then those were slung beneath an A-Star helicopter,
00:40and then we dropped it here, depending on where we need it.
00:43Basically all the people have to be flown in.
00:44We got helipads down here.
00:47We bring everybody up in the Coast Guard helicopter.
00:49The Icelandic Coast Guards helped us out a lot today,
00:51so we're happy for that.
00:54That took a lot of planning.
00:55We had 50 people up there with hair and makeup, wardrobe props,
01:00camera grips, two techno cranes.
01:02Safety-wise, it's a tricky place to shoot.
01:03You gotta go safety gear.
01:04People need to have helmets on,
01:06because it's easy to slip here, and also quite steep.
01:09So we had to put up handrails, anchors, safety lines.
01:12If you need to go outside of the roof area for work purposes,
01:14you have to be harnessed.
01:15No one has shot gear before, I tell you.
01:18We've actually never brought crew of this size and all that
01:21to pick up on a location like that.
01:23So far, so good.
01:24The trick will be getting shot, Joe wants,
01:26and then getting home.
01:29There we go.
01:30This is awesome.
01:31Earl's Peak, beautiful.
01:33I loved Earl's Peak.
01:35That's what I need to...
01:36What do we need to do?
01:37That's incredible.
01:37Because we were so well-prepared,
01:40as soon as he landed,
01:41we were able to shoot very quickly.
01:43Tom's coming up.
01:44Can I walk?
01:44Yes, sir. You're good.
01:45You're good to go.
01:46We are rolling, please, rolling.
01:48Let's see.
01:48Only tail sticks.
01:49We're shooting Tom on the top of a 2,000-foot precipice.
01:52And action.
01:56It was just incredible.
01:58I mean, you've got Tom Cruise on the very edge of that peak
02:01with the most beautiful light.
02:02It was just one of those days I'll never forget.
02:07It was amazing, you know, just to sit there,
02:09and you get to see so much of the country.
02:11We're gonna do a little rappelling at lunch, guys.
02:14You will not find too many actors out there
02:17who will go the distance like he does.
02:19He's the most committed actor I've ever worked with.
02:21And cut.
02:22Good.
02:24It was to his chagrin that we ended so quickly,
02:27and he decided that he'd like to stay a little longer on his own.
02:30So we got all the equipment off.
02:32He stayed up there and enjoyed the view for a while.
02:34It was really peaceful.
02:36It was so beautiful.
02:36And I think, you know, when you see the film,
02:39it captured it.
02:40It captured that haunting beauty and kind of serenity.
