00:00Somewhere between Dry January and Cali Sober lies a more sustainable semi-drinking lifestyle.
00:06It's called D.A.M.P. and it's perfect for those who don't feel like they belong in the partying
00:10crowd or the sober squad. Swearing off alcohol completely might be too extreme. And in fact,
00:16InStyle says research shows that for some people, going cold turkey, even for one month,
00:21isn't the most effective way to cut back on drinking. Going D.A.M.P. is about mindful
00:26drinking. But to best figure out if the lifestyle works for you, you need to ask yourself the
00:31following questions by the HuffPost. Do you have a history of addiction to any substance? Do you
00:35blackout repeatedly from drinking? Is it extremely difficult for you to hit the brakes when you drink?
00:40And have you ever experienced serious consequences as a result of alcohol use,
00:45such as relationship legal or health problems? If the answer to most or all of these questions
00:50is yes, then going sober might be the right path for you. But if your answers were no,
00:54you could benefit from a damp lifestyle. Start by tracking your drinking patterns,
00:59set goals and boundaries. Make alcohol less convenient to access so you break autopilot
01:04habits of pouring yourself a glass. And when you're ready for another drink,
01:08take a beat. Check in with yourself and give your urge time to go away. Spread out your consumption.
01:13That's a no to shots. And have a mocktail at hand so you're not tempted when someone offers you a
01:18drink.
