00:00Hamza Zainuddin loyalists who remain in Bersatu are leaving the party in a dilemma
00:05as it mouths disciplinary action against them, says an analyst.
00:10Shahza Shukri of International Islamic University Malaysia said
00:14Bersatu risks drawbacks if it is either too harsh or too cautious in handling Hamza supporters
00:20as cracking down could push leaders and grassroots members out of the party.
00:25She said this would test the ability of Bersatu's leadership to manage and keep control of the party
00:31following the expulsion of Hamza and several others aligned with him.
00:36Shahza said sacking MPs or assemblymen who were in Hamza's corner
00:40would also allow them to retain their seats while putting the spotlight on party President Muhyiddin Yassin's leadership,
00:47exposing him to criticism.
00:49However, Shahza said if the party is overly cautious,
00:52it will give the perception that Hamza still wields significant influence in the party.
00:58Ahmad Zaharuddin Sani, Ahmad Sabri of Global Asia Consulting warned Bersatu that taking Hamza's bait
01:04would be akin to following his direction, which would weaken the party's institution and demoralize grassroots.
01:11He said if the grassroots truly want the party to survive,
01:15they must stand with their leadership instead of bowing to someone who has lost his legitimacy in the party.
