00:19No!
00:21No!
00:34I know that you are working to another movie made by a workman of Stephen King, so I think
00:43that you are a fan of his work.
00:45You are born in 1973, so when the book went out you had the same age of the characters.
00:53Yeah, roughly, approximately.
00:55Do you feel that these kids are almost like your friends or not?
00:59Yeah, of course, that's why I, you know, I related so much to the story when I read it
01:07for the first time.
01:08He was talking to me about experiences that I was living at the moment and it's a part
01:17of your life where things are experienced very intensely and it's full of different flavors
01:24like love and romance and infatuation is so strong.
01:29And then situations of violence and bullying, you know, they make you so miserable.
01:37And, yeah, for me it was amazing, you know, to on one hand make a trip in time to those
01:45years, try to relate to the characters again, and of course sharing moments with the kids
01:50in the cast.
01:53Because I normally don't spend some time with 13 year olds, of course, I don't have children.
01:59But observing, like witnessing the birth of that group and seeing how they were becoming
02:06friends in real life was for me so beautiful.
02:10In the book, It is a shapeshifter and he comes out in many different forms, but in the movie
02:17you choose to portray him always like a clown.
02:23But instead the adults are really scary, are pretty scary to the adults, it's an interesting
02:29choice.
02:29In the book, their aspect isn't so described very well.
02:33But instead you decided to make them almost like It.
02:37Why?
02:38Well, the adults in the story, they are an extension of the monster.
02:45They are part of the dread that hangs over Darien and its children.
02:52Yeah, they are allies to Pennywise and they are influenced and controlled by It.
02:58But it has to do with, you know, basically what this book is about, what the story is about,
03:06is about like the horrors of growing up and coming of age and leaving behind a world of,
03:13a beautiful world of magic and imagination and belief and faith.
03:20So everything from that perspective, everything that is beyond childhood is the horror of the unknown.
03:29And I think it's related to that.
03:31By the way, Pennywise, It does incarnate in a lot of things in the movie.
03:36Yes, but we can spoil it.
03:38We can spoil it, but it's not always a clown.
03:42Because they are under the spell of It.
03:47The adults are, you know, are part of the conspiracy of It over Derry, which is basically ignore,
04:01or bury anything that will make you act, that will make you change things.
04:14Just don't look at it.
04:16And that is what their terror is, that they are not doing anything to stop the evil.
04:25That is the evil itself, not doing anything.
04:33So, yeah, that's...
04:36And the kids are our heroes.
04:38The kids are the ones that have to overcome their fear and understand, as Bill Dembrow says all the time,
04:46this is not real, this is not real, this is not real.
04:49And be able to barrel through.
04:52Let's do the game.
04:53These kids are amazing.
04:55They really are talented.
04:57Let's say, in your opinion, how many of them will end up winning an Oscar?
05:03Because some of them really should.
05:07I couldn't tell.
05:08I would give an Oscar to each of them.
05:10Because they are extremely talented.
05:15It's hard to pick one, to be honest.
05:19How many?
05:19I said how many.
05:20All of them.
05:21Your answer is all of them.
05:23Seven.
05:23And let's do another game for the second part of the story.
05:28Nothing is certain, nothing is written in the stone, but Sofia, that plays Beverly,
05:35she really looks a lot like a little Amy Adams.
05:40So maybe we will have her in the second movie.
05:45And in your imagination, how do you imagine them?
05:49If you could pick a famous actor?
05:53I don't know.
05:54It's hard to tell.
05:54Well, of course, like Amy Adams would be good.
05:57I'm partial maybe to Jessica Chastain.
06:02I work with her and I think she's an incredible actress.
06:06But it's a little soon to talk about that.
06:09Yeah.
06:10We'll see.
06:23We'll see.
06:24We'll see.
