00:00During the pre-production process of the movie, there was a staggering amount of artwork that was generated.
00:07ILM's art department was very involved in this show and kind of developing things from the beginning,
00:11and Alex Yeager, he became kind of the art director of virtual production.
00:15On Ready Player One, I was working with the production designer Adam Stockhausen
00:19and a couple of other concept artists, basically coming up with the ideas for the film,
00:24working on characters and vehicles and set pieces,
00:27and then essentially that led into the virtual production part of the show,
00:31where I led a team from Digital Domain, actually.
00:35They brought us on early to begin in the design phase because we use VR as like a tech scouting
00:40tool,
00:41and all the concept art that we got from ILM and Adam Stockhausen, they gave us really nice paintings,
00:46and so we were able to just build from there.
00:48Every character, prop, vehicle, environment, everything, we got that all in VR for Steven,
00:53and so he came in and got into a VR headset, and he could walk around his set.
00:56So we have a set of stairs here, and then we're lower, and then all this sort of rises up,
01:02and we go on his back, and this just reveals.
01:04Right, okay.
01:05Every single set was created virtually, and not only did I get into the sets,
01:09I had a little camera in my hand.
01:11My avatar had a virtual camera, and so if I pressed a button,
01:16I could either start a video recorder and do actual shots by walking through the virtual set,
01:21or I could do frame grabs.
01:22You know what would really be cool is if the whole floor raises up like a chute.
01:30It raises up like this.
01:31Steven might have an idea for a scene, and then he could say,
01:34okay, well, I want to extend this thing three times more.
01:37And in real time, an artist kind of off to the side could just kind of move things around
01:41and shift and make adjustments kind of on the fly.
01:44Everything that we built, we were slightly adjusting as we went all the way along
01:48until Steven had exactly what he was looking for.
01:52And let's say, look at that.
01:57This is really my image.
01:57It was about the whole story.
01:57I've got a picture as to say,
01:58and it shows up like this.
01:58So it's where the whole floor is and then the wall of the wall of the wall of the wall
01:58is going to have to bektion and have to be銃,
01:58but it's not like this, and it's not like the wall of the wall.
02:02why is that it just too long?
02:04Grazie a tutti.
