Tensions surge as an Iranian ballistic missile reportedly strikes the German section of Al-Azraq Air Base, a multinational facility hosting coalition forces. The base, where troops from Bundeswehr and the NATO alliance operate alongside U.S. personnel, came under missile attack amid rapidly escalating regional tensions. German troops rushed into bunkers moments before impact, while emergency response and damage assessments began shortly after the strike.

Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) reportedly claimed responsibility, stating the base was used by U.S. fighter jets and coalition forces. The strike has sparked urgent questions across the alliance about whether the attack could trigger Article 5 of the North Atlantic Treaty, the mutual defense provision that commits members of NATO to respond collectively to an attack on one ally.

As Germany, the United States, and coalition partners assess the damage at Jordan’s strategic airbase, the incident is raising fears of a wider confrontation between NATO and Iran. Military aircraft including Germany’s Airbus A400M Atlas have reportedly been placed on standby as the situation continues to develop.

00:10Iran's missile strikes in the Middle East have now hit a German military position.
00:15On the night of March 9, 2026, Iranian ballistic missiles struck the German section of Al-Azrak
00:23Air Base, also known as Muwafik Salty Air Base in eastern Jordan.
00:28The base is a multinational coalition facility that hosts personnel from the German Bundeswehr,
00:35the U.S. Air Force, and other Allied forces.
00:38This time, however, the impact was reported inside the area used by German troops.
00:44According to initial reports, several missiles were launched from Iran as part of Tehran's
00:50retaliation against U.S. and Allied military installations across the region.
00:54One of those missiles reportedly hit a building in the German field camp at the base.
01:00Despite the strike, no German soldiers were killed or injured.
01:04Military officials say all personnel had already moved into protective bunkers before the missiles hit,
01:11as the base had been on high alert amid the escalating conflict.
01:15The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, or IRGC, has claimed responsibility for several strikes
01:22on coalition bases in the region.
01:25Iran described the Al-Azrak facility as one of the most active bases used by U.S. fighter jets
01:32operating in the Middle East, saying its missile forces targeted key infrastructure there.
01:37The base had been considered relatively secure because it hosts advanced American air defense
01:43systems, including THAAD batteries designed to intercept ballistic missiles.
01:49However, reports suggest that some missiles or debris still managed to impact structures
01:55inside the base, including barracks in the German sector.
01:59German authorities say the full extent of the damage is still being assessed.
02:04The strike has raised concern in Berlin because German troops in the region are mainly deployed
02:10for counter-ISIS operations, not direct involvement in the expanding Iran war.
02:16In response to the rising security risks, Germany has placed two Airbus A400M transport aircraft
02:24on standby in case an evacuation of its troops becomes necessary.
02:29This was not the first strike on the base during the conflict.
02:33Earlier attacks between February 28th and March 3rd reportedly damaged a U.S. THAAD radar system
02:40stationed at Al-Azrak.
02:42Satellite images later showed burn marks, debris, and destruction to parts of the radar array,
02:48which plays a critical role in detecting incoming missiles.
02:52The latest strike comes as Iran continues launching missiles and drones at military bases
02:58linked to the United States and its allies across the Middle East.
