Shock and alarm spread across the United States after the FBI confirmed that two suspects behind a failed bombing attempt in New York City were inspired by ISIS. According to FBI Special Agent in Charge James Barnacle, the suspects—Emir Balat and Ibrahim Kayumi—allegedly planned the attack to spread fear and cause mass suffering during a protest near the mayor’s residence.

Authorities say the pair attempted to use homemade explosive devices, but the bombs failed to detonate, preventing what could have been a devastating terror attack. Investigators say both suspects admitted they were motivated by ISIS propaganda, prompting a major terrorism investigation as federal and local agencies work to uncover the full scope of the plot.
