Why just 'Alter Bridge'? Myles Kennedy and Mark Tremonti sit down to discuss the simple, straightforward reasoning behind their new album's title, reflecting on their journey and the band's core sound.
Transcript
00:00We were sitting around the table at the studio, and the question came up,
00:04what do you guys think we should name the record?
00:06And the self-titled thing was presented, and nobody blinked and said,
00:10you know, this is actually the perfect time to do it because it's been eight records now.
00:15We haven't done it previously, and it's a good representation of the last 20 years of the sound of this
00:21band.
00:22It's all kind of captured on this album.
00:24And with that, we did the very streamlined, straightforward artwork on the cover.
00:30Just to kind of say, listen, this is about the music.
00:33We're not a band that really focuses on our image too much, as you can tell, you know.
00:39Oh, come on, Mark. Let's just admit it. We're incredibly lazy.
00:43And just self-titled. It's just like, it took a minute to, let's just call it Alter Bridge.
00:49No, it's true. It kind of captured the essence.
00:52You know, this record really kind of leans into the thing that we do
00:55more than taking any right turns, left turns that we've done along the way.
00:59Just to a degree. I mean, we always kind of keep it, you know,
01:03we keep certain hallmarks intact, but definitely chose not to throw too many curveballs to the fans.
01:11Not too many, like, there's no keyboard solos or we're not bringing any jazz saxophone solos.
01:18It's definitely, you know, this is what we do.
01:20And so we figured it was appropriate. Just call it Alter Bridge.
01:23We will talk generally at the beginning. We'll get on the horn and,
01:26hey, so this is going, what are you thinking?
01:28He might be really excited about something he heard or a new approach, or I might be.
01:33But it's funny, nine times out of ten, you start the process and the universe kind of dictates,
01:38you know, where you're going.
01:40It's a snapshot of where you are creatively and you just go with the flow
01:44and you're informed by everything, you know, that, you know, living brings into the fold and you roll with it.
01:52So you never, you can go into it and say, hey, let's do this,
01:56but then life happens and life influences you in real time and you just listen.
