00:00So look, I think it's positive news that Kristi Noem is being essentially fired.
00:06She should have been fired a long time ago.
00:08It is telling and at the same time distressing that what seems to have gotten her fired was
00:14her PR campaign because she acknowledged that the president was aware and supportive of
00:19this PR campaign, this $220 million boondoggle, this waste of taxpayer resources that largely
00:26promoted Kristi Noem.
00:28That was a sweetheart contract given to the husband of one of her staff, also someone
00:36who did her PR back in South Dakota.
00:38That was a horrible waste of taxpayer resources.
00:42But this was what ended up apparently, reportedly getting her fired when her leadership at the
00:50agency resulted in Americans getting killed in Minneapolis and elsewhere and the kind of
00:55chaos we've seen throughout the country, says a lot about the priorities and the concerns
01:00of this administration.
01:01But look, I'm glad she's going, going and soon I hope gone and pray that there's a new chapter
01:08for DHS, but I will believe it when I see it.
01:11Senator, do you think some Democrats have said perhaps this could help with the DHS negotiations?
01:16What do you think?
01:18I don't know.
01:19I don't know.
01:19It couldn't hurt.
01:19But I suspect that the White House is really running the DHS negotiations.
01:24They're going to call the shots when it comes to what kind of reforms they're going to support.
01:30So I don't see it immediately changing the dynamic.
01:33But look, I think it's an unmitigated positive to see her leave the administration.
01:39There really has been almost no accountability for any of the overwhelming malfeasance in the
01:45administration.
01:46So finally, there is at least some accountability.
01:49Senator, are you a yes on Mark Wing-Mullen, and do you think there's anything he can do
01:54or should be doing if he gets the money?
01:57I'm in a reserve judgment on Senator Mullen.
02:00We'll hear what he has to say.
02:02I start out with a great deal of skepticism, to be candid, that he or anyone else is prepared
02:09to change the policies of that department, because I think the policies of the department
02:13are coming from the president.
02:15And the president is okay with chaos in our streets.
02:19We're not seeing chaos around the world.
02:22He is very much the chaos president.
02:24That is his leadership style, for lack of better description.
02:31So I don't know whether a new secretary is going to change that.
02:34But I will wait to hear what he has to say.
02:37Senator, that gets into a tricky area, though.
02:38The president was elected by the American people.
02:41He was clear about policy.
02:43So if your judgment about a new secretary is based on the president, then I'm not sure
02:48how that works.
02:49Well, I think you're right.
02:51I would agree that the fish rots from the head.
02:53And the real problem that we have with the chaos in our streets is coming from the White
02:58House and from the Oval Office.
03:00But I evaluate each of the nominees for cabinet positions and other positions on their merits.
03:07We'll hear what he has to say and whether he's going to try to lead this department in
03:10a different way.
03:11So I'm not going to prejudge it completely.
03:13But I will acknowledge I'm going to go into this with a lot of skepticism based on what
03:18I've seen.
03:18Last question.
