00:00And I just want to clarify one thing because there is this perception that is consistently put out there that
00:05if you are a Democrat, you are anti-law enforcement, that you are against the police.
00:09We are not anti-law enforcement. In fact, this weekend, I will be speaking at a national convention for law
00:16enforcement.
00:17So let me be clear about something.
00:18The most pro-law enforcement thing that you could ever do is making sure that the bad apples are absolutely
00:25treated as that because bad officers make good officers look terrible.
00:30And that is why real law enforcement has no problems when Democrats decide that they actually want to crack down
00:37and recognize that even law enforcement officers can commit crimes.
00:42Because the last time I checked, I don't understand who should be allowed to gun somebody down in the middle
00:47of the street.
00:49It's not armed and seemingly just has a little bit of melanin.
00:54And when it comes to Alex Pretty and Renee Good, that wasn't even the reasons.
00:59It was the fact that they had the audacity to stand for people that had melanin.
01:02So excuse me, but we are not anti-law enforcement. Let's put that on the record.
01:07Secondly, I want to deal with something that the ranking member opened up with earlier when he talked about Ghislaine
01:13Maxwell.
01:14The reality is that Ghislaine Maxwell was convicted by a jury of her peers and sentenced to 20 years in
01:20a federal prison.
01:21Yet somehow Ghislaine Maxwell has more privileges than people who aren't accused of going out and sexually assaulting children.
01:30This is why we have a problem, because it seems like our colleagues on the other side of the aisle
01:35continue to want to protect pedophiles, while at the same time going after people, most of them who have come
01:42to this country seeking a better life, seeking the America that we sell to the rest of the world, which
01:47is the land of opportunity and the land of the free.
01:49That is what we have sold the world on. Yet seemingly, that's not what's happening when they arrive, when they
01:55say that in their country, there is something that is causing them to need to seek asylum from the harms
02:01that are taking place in their countries.
02:03Now, let me get to my official remarks before we have to go vote.
02:06It seems like those super PAC bands are making these Republicans dance.
02:11Isn't it interesting that thousands of white people storming the U.S. Capitol and beating police officers made it home
02:17safely?
02:17But brown people posing no threat to ICE agents are suddenly killed in cold blood.
02:22The government pardoned those January 6th rioters, yet the same government is now calling the non-white people, most of
02:28whom have no criminal record, quote, terrorists and criminals.
02:32Mr. Sinha, why do you think this is?
02:36Thank you for the question, Ranking Member Crockett.
02:38And I know you can talk forever, but just give me a little something.
02:41Look, I think every legal system, the criminal legal system, the immigration system is rife with racial injustice.
02:49We are seeing it play out in the streets every single day.
02:52People of color are being targeted unfairly and unjustly, while those who are white and those who have money are
03:01being let off the hook repeatedly.
03:03That's been the story of America.
03:05That's been the story throughout our nation's history, and it's the story that continues today.

03:10To the best of your knowledge, did any of the protesters at Delaney Hall brutally beat police officers with steel
03:17pipes?
03:17No.
03:19What about spraying police officers with bear spray?
03:22No.
03:23What about tasing officers in the neck or stomping their heads?
03:27No.
03:28Who would you rather live next to, one of the thousands of immigrants without criminal records but are being targeted
03:33by ICE,
03:34or someone like David Daniel, a Trump supporter, who was pardoned but was found to be in possession of child
03:40pornography and charged with sexual exploitation of a minor?
03:43I would rather live next to one of the thousand immigrants.
03:46Now, this Justice Department has taken the unprecedented step by criminally charging Congresswoman McIver.
03:52Why do you think the Republicans in Congress are louder about nonviolent immigrants without criminal records,
03:58but silent about the executive branch prosecuting a member of the legislative branch for conducting legitimate legislative business?
04:05Thank you for bringing up the case against Ms. McIver.
04:07Look, every single member of Congress should be outraged by what's happening to her, regardless of party,
04:13because they are going after a Congresswoman for doing her job.
04:18And that's why we at the ACLU had filed an amicus brief in support of her and calling for the
04:24charges to be dropped.
04:25They are going after a sitting Congresswoman for doing her job and nothing else.
04:30And we're going to continue fighting for her.
04:33My next question was about your amicus brief, but I'll move on now because you already brought it up.
04:38We've already established in this hearing, not just in this hearing, but honestly, the American people are not crazy.
04:48The American people are outraged.
04:50They're trying to pretend as if people are just going to Delaney Hall.
04:54And it's simply because Delaney Hall is just, I don't know, the victim in this particular set of circumstances.
05:00But no one today, as we've gone through this hearing, has decided to say the name of Jean Brutus,
05:08a 41-year-old asylum seeker from Haiti.
05:12And for those that don't know the history of what was going on in Haiti,
05:15but there was a brutal overtaking of the government in Haiti.
05:19They actually had gang members that actually went in and brutally murdered their leader.
05:26There's a safety issue that has taken place in Haiti.
05:32So here it was.
05:33He was an asylum seeker.
05:34December 12, 2025, he ended up dying in Delaney Hall.
05:40He had only been in Delaney Hall for one day.
05:43So while some may want to pretend as if there's nothing to see,
05:46in fact, we should have had a hearing that would have allowed us to get to the bottom of
05:51and potentially seek justice and make sure that other people don't die in our custody
05:56in an unwarranted and unlawful way.
05:59That is what I want to do, Mr. Chairman.
06:01And I hope that we can move forward with making sure that anyone who is taken into our immigration system,
06:08that they are taken in and they are given their day in court and they get due process,
06:12but their constitutional rights are not violated.
