00:00What's up guys, EverythingApplePro here.
00:02I've been waiting for this day for an entire year.
00:04This is the battle of the titans.
00:06So, without Samsung's help, I managed to get the Samsung Galaxy S8 for my tests.
00:12We're going to be comparing the new beast Samsung Galaxy S8 versus the iPhone 7 Plus in a variety of
00:17tests.
00:18So in this one, we're going to start with the drop durability test.
00:21So essentially, I want to see how does the new Gorilla Glass 5 that was found in the Note 7
00:25and now is on the S8 Plus hold up against the dual-ion glass on the iPhone 7 Plus.
00:30These things have been incredibly resilient.
00:32You know, we've dropped them.
00:33Last year, the iPhone 6S didn't even break.
00:35So I'm assuming this one will do just as well compared to this guy.
00:39No trickery.
00:40You know, I have nothing to gain.
00:41I love both of these companies.
00:42You know, fantastic phones.
00:44Although, we obviously know one is better here.
00:45Don't let anyone know I said that.
00:46So here we go.
00:47So, Samsung Galaxy S8 Plus versus iPhone 7 Plus drop.
00:51You know, this thing has so much screen front and back that I don't see this thing lasting very well.
00:56Even though it has the latest...
00:57No!
00:59No!
01:03No!
01:05I'm sorry.
01:07That was a really big disappointment.
01:08Let's cut that out.
01:09Take two.
01:10In my opinion, this thing might not actually do so well because of that.
01:13We're going to start with a waist height back, side, and front.
01:17So, starting with the iPhone.
01:18In three, two, one.
01:24And with this guy.
01:26In three, two, one.
01:29Nice and clean.
01:34iPhone.
01:34We don't have too much to be afraid of except for the lens cover.
01:37And...
01:38Oh my goodness!
01:39Are you serious?
01:41That was literally like on smooth concrete from not even three feet.
01:46And it shattered.
01:48Wow.
01:50What?
01:51Is that really going to happen in the display?
01:53What in the world?
01:54This is supposed to be the latest, greatest Gorilla Glass.
01:59So, it is cracked, but it doesn't start chipping right away like the iPhone.
02:03Of course, it's more usable.
02:07Maybe a couple scuffs on here, but I'd rather have some scuffs than a completely broken device.
02:12Kind of disappointed.
02:14So, let's move on to the side.
02:17Come on.
02:17This is like the latest stuff.
02:19How could it be this bad?
02:20You guys saw that.
02:21That was like a clean drop.
02:24Okay.
02:25Anyways.
02:25Side drop.
02:26Same waist height.
02:27You pull it out of your pocket.
02:29You know, you've got greasy fingers from the McDonald's you've been eating.
02:32And here we go.
02:33In three, two, one.
02:40And three, two, one.
02:50All right.
02:53So, display did survive this one.
02:55So, we've got that impact right here.
02:57It's just a little scuff.
02:58Not too bad.
02:59But the back did crack more as a result.
03:01So, this must be a really, really thin layer of glass for sure.
03:05So, the front of the display does look good.
03:07It's the borders that are starting to get chipped.
03:09More so than the S7, I must say.
03:12They have this gloss finish to them now.
03:14So, you're going to notice more when you get those scratches.
03:18Man.
03:19I expected more.
03:21iPhone.
03:22Even with the red paint.
03:24It's really not looking bad at all.
03:26The scuffs aren't that noticeable.
03:28They still blend in pretty well.
03:30So, let's do the front-facing one.
03:32I'm really afraid for you, Galaxy.
03:34You're not showing a good sign.
03:35Waist height, face down.
03:37And three, two, one.
03:41And three, two, one.
03:47Oh, thank you.
03:48For a minute there, I thought it would jump over and be broken.
03:52So, I guess it's a little thicker on the front.
03:54Maybe it will be a little bit more resilient.
03:56This one is still doing just fine as well.
03:59So, you know, both are survivors.
04:01Let's move it up to the head height.
04:04So, man.
04:06It's getting worse and worse.
04:07Spider webbing.
04:08Okay.
04:09I'm cracked badly, but I guess we will continue here.
04:11Just see how long this thing can keep going and in what condition on the same level of the iPhone.
04:16Glass looks good, but isn't really the most durable.
04:19That's for sure.
04:20All right.
04:20So, from head height to rear.
04:22And three, two, one.
04:25Ooh, that's a long way down.
04:29And three, two, one.
04:34Ooh.
04:36Nice smack there.
04:38So, I'm a little afraid to see what we're going to see, but not too bad.
04:45Everything is fine here.
04:47A lot of moisture coming out of the phone from the water test.
04:52Oh, that's not bad at all.
04:53It didn't really get much worse.
04:55Maybe a little bit right here.
04:56More fractures, but holding up pretty well.
04:59It's not peeling.
05:00In fact, I can barely even feel them.
05:02It feels just as smooth.
05:04Front is good.
05:05Still working.
05:06So, side test.
05:07This is my prediction.
05:08It's going to crack on this one.
05:10iPhone always really does well because it's got that aluminum border.
05:13Okay, here we go.
05:14I'm a little nervous.
05:16Breaking the brand new phone before it's even released.
05:19In three, two, one.
05:22Ooh, that was not good.
05:24I saw glass shards flying up to me up here.
05:31And three, two, one.
05:39Ooh, wow.
05:42That did not break.
05:45So, we've got the impact point right here, right below the display.
05:48And the iPhone.
05:50Wait, what?
05:52I swear I saw chunks of glass flying up to me.
05:57But I guess it was water.
05:59Seeing things.
06:01Wow.
06:02I thought that was broken.
06:04Still, both survived.
06:06Both are alive.
06:07This one did get worse on that impact for sure.
06:09The spider webbed right under the camera.
06:12So far, so good.
06:14So, face down.
06:15Oh, look at that.
06:17So, the display is actually coming out of the chassis here.
06:20where it did bend a little.
06:24Otherwise, still working.
06:25So, face down, head height.
06:27All right.
06:27This is it.
06:28This one has exceeded my expectations.
06:31So, on we go.
06:32In three, two, one.
06:38Ah, volume.
06:40In three, two, one.
06:46What do you think, man?
06:48I think this is dead.
06:49It's done.
06:49Nope.
06:51He's a Galaxy user.
06:54Okay.
06:56This one survived.
06:58Minimal injuries.
07:00Just some scuffing on the side.
07:02Not too bad.
07:03Wow.
07:05Okay.
07:06I'm a little impressed.
07:08So, at this point, you know, the thing you're going to be using, the front, is still surviving.
07:13The rear, you can exchange these for really cheap.
07:16So, down the road, it's really easy to pry this off and replace it with some adhesive.
07:20As long as it's done correctly, it shouldn't cost much.
07:22So, I'm not too worried about that.
07:24Still, very, very capable.
07:26So, 10 feet.
07:27This is really above and beyond anything you'll be experiencing.
07:29That's for sure in your day-to-day life.
07:31Plus, you'll have a case on.
07:33But say you didn't, what would happen?
07:35Whoa.
07:37All right.
07:37So, rear, 10 feet.
07:39And three, two, one.
07:43One.
07:46And three, two, one.
07:51Ooh, that was so perfect.
07:52One.
07:58All right.
08:00Surprisingly, this did not break.
08:02So, still alive.
08:04Phone is still working.
08:06It's been through hell and back, and it's still surviving.
08:10Same with this one.
08:11Still good.
08:13Ooh, rear is a mess.
08:15Ouch.
08:16The laminate is even coming off from the glass.
08:17The front is working, and that's really all that matters.
08:20So, to me, they're almost even at this point.
08:22This is kind of hard.
08:23I'm going to try and get it even, but here we go.
08:25In three, two, one.
08:27Ooh, that was a perfect hit.
08:29One.
08:30Ooh, that was a perfect hit.
08:35And three, two, one.
08:38Ooh.
08:42Oh, my goodness.
08:43What in tarnation.
08:45Digitizer is no longer working.
08:48Oh.
08:48All righty, then.
08:49Really, really bent chassis here.
08:52It's not completely straight.
08:55Display is tweaking out on me.
08:58The whole phone is warped.
09:00Over here, the display is coming out, so I'm kind of surprised it didn't break.
09:03But, man, looks like the iPhone is losing another round here so far.
09:07Galaxy is still alive.
09:10Whoa.
09:11Really, really cracked now.
09:14But, still working.
09:16No crazy screen jutter.
09:18All right.
09:19Face down.
09:20Man, these things are pretty durable.
09:22Final test.
09:23Screen sticking out.
09:25You know, this thing has compromised the durability, so I don't see this thing surviving.
09:29No way.
09:30In three, two, one.
09:33One.
09:37Ouch, that sounded like it broke.
09:39Two, one.
09:42One.
09:47So, let's see.
09:49The iPhone.
09:50What?
09:51How is this thing still alive?
09:53It's tweaking out.
09:55You know, the display is screwed.
09:57The chassis is bent.
09:59Antenna bands are coming out here.
10:01But, this thing is still a survivor.
10:03This one, though.
10:04So, oh.
10:05Whew.
10:06There we go.
10:08The display has shattered.
10:10It took that much to get this to break, though.
10:13So, is this thing pretty durable?
10:14Absolutely.
10:15You know, it's almost on par with the iPhone.
10:18And, when it does break, it doesn't seem to affect usability that much.
10:22You know, you can still see through it.
10:24Not all that bad.
10:25But, overall, got to give the win to the iPhone on this one, despite the fact that it's freaking out.
10:30It's just the fact that it didn't break from these tests.
10:33So, I guess let's keep going.
10:35The only other test that I can think of is 25 feet.
10:38So, let's see if we drop it from there.
10:40Can we finally break the iPhone glass?
10:43All right.
10:43Tweaking iPhone 7 Plus.
10:45Let's see what you got.
10:46in a three, two, one.
10:50Oh, man.
10:52That sent up a cloud of dust.
10:5525 feet.
10:57Literally coming apart at the seams.
10:59The antenna band is separating here.
11:03and, yeah.
11:04So, that did it.
11:06This thing is more resilient.
11:08But, in the end, 25 feet is 25 feet to any phone.
11:12So, even though they are both cracked at this point, the iPhone 7 Plus is almost unusable.
11:17I feel like I'm going to cut my finger here.
11:18all the shards are coming out.
11:20It really affects the screen quality and display.
11:23This one, on the other hand, looks really, really good.
11:27So, not seeing much cracks.
11:30And, even though they're there, they're almost completely smooth.
11:33You can run your finger over them without the fear of getting glass splinters in your skin.
11:38Okay, guys, so, there it is.
11:40The Samsung Galaxy S8 versus the iPhone 7 Plus.
11:44I got to give the win to the iPhone on this one, but they were close.
11:48Very, very close.
11:49Except for the back on this one.
11:50But, again, that's not really that big of a deal.
11:53All right, guys.
11:54Thanks for watching.
11:54Be sure to check out the water test and more on these devices.
11:58Peace.
