00:00A North East based charity is warning a sharp rise in heating oil prices linked to conflict
00:07in the Middle East could hit rural households already struggling with fuel costs. Around 30%
00:12of homes in Cumbria and Northumberland are not connected to the gas grid and rely on oil or LPG
00:17instead. Community Action Northumberland says some comparison sites show heating oil prices
00:23doubling in a week, rising from about 60 pence to around £1 a litre, adding hundreds of pounds
00:29to the cost of a single purchase. Because heating oil is not covered by the same regulation
00:35as gas and electricity, prices can change very quickly. Industry body UK IFDA says there are
00:42no impacts to fuel supply.
