China's government has submitted a draft of its 15th Five-Year Plan to its top legislature for review. It lays out Beijing's key priorities for the next few years.

00:00It's the second day of an annual meeting of China's National People's Congress.
00:05On Friday, delegates were viewing a draft of the government's 15th five-year plan,
00:10which lays out priorities for 2026 to 2030.
00:14Among them, a big emphasis on advancing science and technology,
00:18showing a need for self-reliance in these areas.
00:21Also, maintaining the country's domination in rare earths production,
00:26boosting domestic consumption, further modernizing its military,
00:30and strengthening national security.
00:32By developing itself domestically, the plan suggests,
00:36China strives to become even more competitive on the global stage.
00:40Some parts, analysts say, are aimed specifically at competing with the U.S.
01:19The plan also mentions Taiwan,
01:23emphasizing China should crack down on so-called Taiwan separatist forces
01:28and oppose external interference over Taiwan,
01:32but also promote cross-strait cultural exchanges,
01:35especially among young people,
01:37and also promote cross-strait economic integration.
01:40Analysts say, all part of China's goal to ultimately take Taiwan,
01:44which it claims as its territory.
