00:26I am in Beijing now, the capital of China, to report on the legislative election held
00:32this Sunday, December 8th, in Hong Kong. This process takes place within the framework
00:39of the Special Administrative Region, a status applicable to Hong Kong and Macau, created
00:48to ensure that these former European colonies maintain the fundamental principle of China
00:55of one country to system, preserving the whole legal economic systems and a high degree
01:03of autonomy within the People's Republic of China. Under the framework, more than four million
01:12registered citizens were able to participate in over 600 polling stations, demonstrating their
01:21commitment to civil rights and the stability of the system.
01:28Citizens' expectations for the 90 new members of the Legislative Council are focused on economic
01:37and social agenda, as well as the improving of people of public health. This new legislative
01:46will officially begin in four-year terms on January 1st, 2026. This following violent protest
01:58by separatist groups in 2019. Electoral reforms were passed in 2021, allowing only patriotic candidates,
02:09guaranteeing Hong Kong stability and development in the framework of one country to systems.
