00:00Tyler's worst nightmare happened yesterday, folks.
00:02I'm not screwing it up in a, uh, in a game against the Detroit Tigers.
00:08I want to make that very clear.
00:09They were in Arizona playing in the Detroit Tigers, the Dominican Republic and, uh, WBC,
00:17baby.
00:17Gotta love it.
00:18Jeremy, Jeremy Pena in a WBC tune-up match, which is very, very similar to exactly what
00:26the Astros have been doing in these spring training games.
00:30Grounder hit him, hit him up the middle and, uh, he, uh, he, what we now know, here's
00:36the latest update is that he has a, uh, a broken finger right, right, right off the tip, right
00:43off the tip of the finger and it's the worst.
00:47Um, uh, initially it was that he has a fracture in the tip of his right ring finger, according
00:53to the Astros, they said initially he'd be reevaluated in two weeks, which I still think
00:59may be the case, but this is the latest thing.
01:02I thought you were playing some Oregon set.
01:05I was going to say the latest thing is Jeremy Pena will miss the WBC.
01:10Sorry, Tyler.
01:11He will miss the rest of the WBC and perhaps according to Chandler Rome opening day with
01:18a fracture in the tip of his ring finger.
01:21So many, many of you, the Tylers, the Sean Pendergast and many of you who absolutely hate
01:27this.
01:27I do think this is, I'm not going to argue this down because nobody will, will hear
01:31anything different.
01:32They are locked and loaded in dug into it.
01:35And I know Tyler is leading it.
01:37Uh, I don't think this is as, as this is as egregious or like them playing in the real
01:44tournament where these games feel like playoff type vibes that just happened real quick.
01:50This feels like the very same type of vibe he would be in if he was playing spring training
01:54games for the Astros.
01:56Um, he wasn't, he wasn't hit by the pitch or anything.
02:00It was a ground is a really weird injury that happened on a ground ball up the middle.
02:04It could have been avoided.
02:07Really weird injury.
02:09It happened on a ground.
02:10It would have been avoided if he was in a, in an Astros uniform.
02:12We don't know that it could have, could not have been opening day with the Astros when
02:16you can play for the Dominican man, who cares?
02:18Speaking to that point, Tyler, if they're saying perhaps he's going to miss it.
02:22And I am trying, I swear to you, I am trying to give these guys the benefit of the doubt
02:28because my first mindset with the Astros and training staff and injuries like that, when
02:35I see perhaps miss opening day, that to me says two weeks.
02:39Well, this is not good.
02:40Not from now, but from the start of opening day, that just what I would initially assume
02:45and hope to be surprised, but this is a brand new training staff.
02:50So I want to give them guys a chance, but Clint, you did bring up an interesting thing earlier
02:56of like, they probably want it and need to get off to a good start.
03:02We've talked about this going into it.
03:05Most people do not see the Astros as the leader in the West.
03:11Most people view the favorite of the West to be the Mariners as they wanted one of the
03:16division last year and made a small little run in the postseason.
03:19So most people view that as the, uh, the, the favorite in the West.
03:23They probably want to get off to a good start.
03:27And Jeremy Pena is a guy that he, he, when he gets, when he's out or injured, which he
03:36may be opening day that they got to do some changes to the lineup.
03:41Cause he is, he is clearly their leadoff hitter.
03:43And I guess maybe you put out too, they up there and do, but, but it changes what they
03:47want to do from a perspective of having him up there and speed and everything.
03:51So this, hopefully this is not long-term.
03:54Well, hopefully it's not long-term, but this is, I mean, it's, it's going to pay off, right?
03:57The moves the Astros have made is going to pay off on opening day.
04:02Uh, I mean, we we've talked about, uh, you know, the, the, the problem in Houston is you've
04:06got too many infielders and the reality of it is there's a lot of folks out there that
04:12obviously, uh, discussed, well, boy, injuries, man, load management.
04:15If you've got that extra infielder, there's plenty of space at second and short and third.
04:19He can play all these hell, he can play first too.
04:21He can play all the positions.
04:22And so you, when you got Correa who needs a rest and you know, some injuries have been
04:26a problem out to they needs a rest.
04:28Christian Walker, you know, can, can, uh, can take 20 games off this year kind of deal
04:32along the way.
04:33We can really fit them in.
04:34Well, the good thing is for the Astros is this Jeremy Pena injury and however long it
04:43is, it gets into the season, which it shouldn't be that long, but however long it is, you know,
04:49you're going to, you're in a really good spot to weather that you're in a really good spot
04:52for that to not be a major concern.
04:54Speaking of the training staff, one complaint that I think is very real.
04:58There's a lot of things that I don't think the training staff could, could, could help
05:01that like the arms that were just constantly popping.
05:04Um, you know, I don't know, was that workload?
05:06Was that something, some kind of mechanics techniques that they were doing that was causing
05:10that?
05:11Now, the one thing that you can point directly to the training staff is how quickly guys
05:16were returning to service.
05:17Uh, I mean, you got Jake Myers jogging out there and looking like he popped in Achilles
05:21tendon on the way out kind of deal.
05:22You got some pitchers that come back, throw about 10 pitches and all of a sudden their elbows
05:26blown up again.
05:26So the, the, the quick return to service or return to the game.
05:30I think you can point directly at the training staff and impacting that in some way, shape
05:34or form with this, with this lineup, with this infielder, with, with, with Isak Paredes
05:39in the mix and having the additional infielder that can swing a bat as well as anybody on
05:44a team.
05:45There's no reason for Jeremy Pena to rush back.
05:49I'd like for him to get back quickly.
05:51I'd like for him to be there opening day, but with, with the, this, this roster constructed
05:55the way it is and the trainings to the history of the training staff, bringing guys back
06:25their joint or anything like that.
06:26So this shouldn't be something that you screw up, but nonetheless, you've got the luxury
06:31of Isak Paredes being in the clubhouse.
06:34This should be the, this, this organization should, should not feel this at all out of
06:39the gate.
06:40Hopefully not.
06:41He is, he is when it, from a speed perspective and, and what he does on the base pass is,
06:46is different from really almost anybody else in the lineup.
06:49You might take that, that, that part of the game might be out.
