00:00Robert Village Tableland residents on Thursday pleaded with the government to urgently replace
00:05the aged pipelines which run through and service their community. The call comes after residents
00:12have now gone close to two months without a pipe-borne supply of water, significantly
00:17impacting families and small businesses in the area.
00:21I'm sure what is gross with water. It has been seven weeks straight, consecutive weeks,
00:26that these residents here haven't received a pipe-borne water.
00:30And we just pay for the whole year. January start, we pay for the whole year, right?
00:36And it affects me a lot because when you don't have water, you get frustrated, you get fed up,
00:40you don't know what to do. You have your house to clean, close to wash. Well, don't talk for words.
00:46I do own a beauty salon. I do makeup and hair. And most of the times, because we never have
00:53water,
00:53I have to ask clients to wash their hair before they come to my salon.
00:57They say their constant calls to WASA met with a list of reasons, including numerous water leaks,
01:04low water pressure, and aged lines that would burst with too much pressure.
01:09They say the water reaching for us, Williams, with Mantapu, and the pressure not building,
01:13because they're not opening the water with the pressure, enough pressure to reach.
01:17The first thing the personal authority telling you that if they open the water with more pressure,
01:23they're lying with the blowout. That is not the customer's problem.
01:26Do something. The broken lines on them, they would fix about a four-page,
01:29and when two vehicles pass, they just break out a thing.
01:33Do something. Change all the lines on them from New Grant to Rio Claro.
01:37While they're on Thursday morning, one of the families was able to get WASA's truck supply,
01:43but they say it can only come once a week, and the amount of water given is limited.
01:48Not enough to sustain their families for very long.
01:52Even so, most of the families complain they've been unable to even get this service.
01:57Twelve dollars a gallon of water cannot last you for seven days.
02:02My family consists of eight people.
02:04Right? So, look, these neighbors are in here.
02:07They're making a request on the can't even get the water.
02:11When the water do come, there's nothing much of you to do.
02:15Even though I have six stands, my wife, I have the family, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
02:20I have to put some continence in my vehicle, and how much continence my vehicle could hold?
02:25How long would it last?
02:27Some resort to going by relatives' homes to wash clothes,
02:30but they say it's not fair, and something has to be done about it.
02:35In response this afternoon, WASA said Robert Village is an elevated area
02:40at the end of the distribution network in Tableland,
02:43and the primary cause for the current disruption in supply
02:46is recent repairs to a leaking 12-inch main in Piparu,
02:51combined with the area's vulnerability as an endpoint
02:54and aged infrastructure significantly impacting supply pressures.
02:59The authority says a long-term solution is planned
03:02and entails the replacement of 14.7 kilometers of pipeline
03:07from Torb Tabakit Road to San Pedro Road.
03:10Funding for this, they say, is currently being sought to execute the project.
03:15In the short term, WASA says an interim schedule has been initiated
03:19to target the Robert Village endpoint to receive a supply
03:22any time between this coming Saturday, March 7 to Tuesday, March 10.
03:27All water truck deliveries for existing requested ads
03:31will be done by the end of today.
