00:00And if you World Baseball Classic people want to come out of your hole right now and get ready to
00:04take shots at me, I'm here for it. Go ahead. Because I've said all along, I'm not anti-World
00:10Baseball Classic. I am anti-Astros playing in the World Baseball Classic. So what do you got
00:17to say now with Jeremy Pena and his fractured finger on his throwing hand, World Baseball
00:22Classic bros? Yeah, I mean, this is a, we had Jose Altuve with his broken wrist or hand a couple
00:29years ago. We've got this now. I just... You've got the litany of pitchers pitching for Latin
00:36American teams that went on to have Tommy John surgery within months after the World Baseball
00:41Classic. Yeah, yeah. Javier, Urquidy, Garcia. Garcia's career might be over. You know what I was in no
00:47mood for at all? There were people, these were genuine Astros fans. I checked to be sure they
00:53weren't fake accounts saying, see, see, that's why you have an extra infielder. You son of a...
00:58No. No, no, no. Because he might get hurt in the World Baseball Classic? Yeah. That's why you have
01:04an extra infielder. By the way, and again, if you're going to cape for Dana Brown in this instance,
01:08he's been trying to trade away one of those infielders. Like, openly trying to trade away
01:14Parades. Oh, yeah. It's not like this was some master... We're not going to Nico Harrison this and
01:19say, oh, now you can see what our plan was all along. Now we've still got... You still don't have
01:24a
01:24great option at shortstop. Even if you have a crowded infield, but Carlos Correa, one of the
01:29reasons he was specifically happy to come to Houston was because he didn't want to play shortstop. No
01:33more. He's getting banged up and injured too much. He's a third baseman, according to him.
01:38What's the estimated time of absence for Pena? They don't know yet. He's getting an x-ray today.
01:45It looks like he's for sure going to miss the first round of the World Baseball Classic.
01:49These games that they've been playing the last few days are just exhibition games to gear up. There are
01:53actual real world baseball... There's real world baseball classic games being played as we speak.
01:58I was confused about that. Yeah. They're literally being played all over the world.
02:03But we're also having these exhibition games where we see the Astros playing versus Venezuela.
02:07Yeah. So the first... So are these like the play-in games elsewhere?
02:11Yeah. Well, they're actual... Yeah. They're real world... I don't know how the tournament works,
02:15Seth. Yeah. Yeah. So I don't know... I know they're real. I'm just asking if there's like a
02:19preliminary round of the Lowe's. Don't know. You're asking the wrong guy. I have no idea how it works
02:23because as you know, I don't really care about it. I respect it, but I don't care about the
02:26World Baseball Classic. I know the Dominican Republic cares. Oh boy. I heard from people
02:31how Santo Domingo... Santo Domingo was... They were apoplectic during these games. Boy,
02:36what a tough place to go play. Don't care. And if the USA wins, awesome. If they lose,
02:42yata-da-da-da-da-da-da. I go on with my day. I do not care about the World
02:46Baseball Classic
02:47except for the fact that it's injuring Houston Astros. That's all I care about. So you bros
02:52that come at me on the text page and on social media telling me how much it means to all
02:56these
02:56other countries. Great. I don't live in those countries. I don't care about the World Baseball
03:02Classic at all. Except that your players are getting injured. That's the only thing that makes
03:08you care about it. That's the only thing. Yeah. The only thing I care about is that my guys don't
03:12play in it. The one that intrigues me, I want to look into England's team a little bit. Just
03:17because, you know, you can go and play where you have some lineage tracing back to that country.
03:22And I'm mostly English ancestry. I don't... I just... I don't know about how much I feel like being
03:30like, oh, I want to go back and play with them for the motherland against one of the countries that
03:35colonized all these other countries that are playing against. I guess, yeah. What am I going to do it
03:40for a queen's majesty or something? Yeah. Hey, hey, remember back in the day when we really had
03:48it over you fellas? No. Are you sure? I'm not into it. Are you sure you don't have a little
03:53Latin
03:53America in you, Seth? What the hell's this quesadilla? Are you sure? Are you sure? I can't go play for
04:00Spain. That would be... You can do a little 23 and me and see if old Sethers has some Spain
04:06in him.
04:06I will tell you this. You brought up Correa. If this thing drifts into the regular season with
04:11Jeremy Pena, and until I'm told otherwise, I'm going to be upset about this until I'm told that
04:17this doesn't... I say it doesn't affect the regular season. At the very least, if he can't play in the
04:22World Baseball Classic, it affects his ability to be ready for March 26th or whatever opening day is.
04:27He's not going to be playing baseball for a period of time. So it does affect his preparation in some
04:33way, like materially. If Carlos Correa does not move over to shortstop for at least a little bit
04:40and play shortstop, I'm going to be... And we've got to go with the lineup where Nick Allen is playing
04:45shortstop and is, you know, 600 OPS. And we've got a perfectly good Paredes sitting over there who
04:50could play third while Carlos Correa is playing shortstop. Carlos Correa is going to have to take one for
04:55the team if Jeremy Pena is out for any period of time. And I don't mean... I don't say that
04:59to mean
05:00that he's got to play shortstop every single day. Yeah. But he's going to have to play at some so
05:05they
05:05can get an optimal lineup out there. Like, if we're being sold that having Paredes is a good thing
05:10for something exactly like this situation, then Paredes needs to be in the lineup when something
05:16like this happens. Right. Right. And what do you do with your trade discussions now? If somebody,
05:22all of a sudden, there's a... I don't know, maybe by virtue of the World Baseball Classic,
05:25somebody else gets injured. And a team says, boy, we could really use Paredes. Paredes,
05:30yeah. And meanwhile, you're the Astros and you're like, well, wish you would have called a while
05:34back. And I wish that Pena hadn't been playing in the World Baseball Classic. Yeah, we need Paredes
05:40now. Maybe get a little more for him. The whole World Baseball Classic, you know what it feels like?
05:44It feels like the way that awards shows dupe people into coming and being part of a broadcast that makes
05:50money while they don't have to pay the celebrities themselves. Like, hey, we're going to have the
05:57Southeast California Screenwriters Guild Awards. And you've won a prize, Angelina Jolie. Yes. And
06:05then she comes and they make money off of it and everything. Meanwhile, by getting it for free.
06:10But that's why people love getting an award or something. So they create this World Baseball
06:13Classic. And they're like, hey, everybody, you get to go represent your country. And people say,
06:18wow, what an honor. What a great thing. I get to go represent my country. And how much are you
06:23paying
06:23me? Oh, nothing. You're doing it for the glory of your country and the sport. And they dupe
06:28everybody into giving a damn about this stupid thing. Thank you. You're on my side on this. I like
06:33to see this. I am now. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Was it my patriotic pep talk that got you pulled over
06:39to the
06:39other side a moment ago? No, it was just pure selfish interests already. It was as soon as I saw
06:45that
06:45Jeremy Pena's finger got broken. I was against it. Gotcha. I was my support for the World Baseball
06:51Classic was built on a solid foundation of what have you done for me lately? And as soon as that
06:56shook a little bit, it turned to dust. Yes. All it's done is injure a bunch of Astros. If you're
07:02if you're an American and you're into the World Baseball Classic, I'm telling you right now,
07:06you're a sap. You're a sucker. You're a sucker for a ride. You're a sucker and a sap. And I
07:11know
07:11these games are taking place in Houston. And there's probably people on the Chamber of Commerce
07:15and the Greater Houston Sports Authority Partnership that are saying, guys, guys, you're the most
07:22listened to show in the morning. Stop selling against the World Baseball Classic. We'll stop
07:27getting our players hurt. Stop sacrificing our digits. Yes. Our favorite players. Yes.
07:33This is a team that's had a few pickles injury wise in the last few years. Exactly. Exactly. Sorry if
07:38I
07:38care more about the Astros than I do the American team in the World Baseball Classic. And if this
07:43means I'm not getting any free tickets to it, well, by God, that's fine. I'll find something
07:47else to go do. This is the same as this is like when various baseball players get weird injuries
07:52where like they claim that it was a massage therapist or they stepped in a stepped in a
07:57gopher hole on their ranch. All of these things. Yeah, that's what the World Baseball Classic
08:01is. It's an injury that annoys you and angers you because it feel like it didn't have to happen.
08:05Uh, text message. Glad you don't care. Some Americans do. Yeah. Saps. That's who.
08:10Yeah. Some Americans do. Glad you don't care. I feel bad. Yeah. Yeah. We're glad you don't
08:16care. Some do. Yeah. You're saps. Yeah. You're suckers. Thank you. I'm telling you right now.
08:22What did he miss about everything we just explained to him? Yep. If you care about it,
08:26you're a sucker. You're easily sold to suckers. And that's usually me, right? I'm usually the sucker
08:32in the room. Yeah. They say, if you can't spot the sucker in the first 30 minutes, you are the
08:36sucker. Well, guess who I just spotted on the text page? Uh, seven, eight, five, four sucker.
08:43You want to go to Vegas with me tonight? I'm leaving for Vegas in about 12 hours. You want
08:47to go and sit at my poker table so I can empty your pockets? Let's go.
08:51That's what you really need to care about. You know what you'd be? You'd be a good communist.
08:55Right. You'd be good because you would trust that mother Russia is telling me what to do.
09:00And yes, this is what I would never go against what's good for the state. Oh, I need to kill
09:06my own family. Okay. Yes, sir. That if it's good for the country, then I'll do it because
09:11you told me to do it. Right. Right. Go live in whatever lagging, claiming to be communist countries
09:17or regimes. There's still are. That's right. Yeah. They only claim they're not even real
09:22communists. All right. Let's, let's, let's hit a topic. That'll calm our nerves. The Texans
09:26off offensive line, freaking commies themselves. Um, should we be shifting our attention at the
09:34position of center away from Tyler Linderbaum and to either Connor McGovern or Tyler Bia dash
09:41who was cut yesterday by the Washington commanders and is a pretty good center as well. Um, yeah,
09:45I think if I was shopping in that aisle, really the question is, should you turn away from the
09:51marquee guy at a position for other guys that are more affordable and still serviceable, good
09:57offensive lineman? Yeah. The answer is always yes. I mean, that's where I, I get, I get wrapped
10:02up in wanting Tyler Linderbaum, wanting Trent Williams. I like those and it's always fun and it's
10:07always exciting, but generally it's not the smartest way to spend your money and more times than
10:13not, you don't end up getting their money's worth out of a guy, even if he's not an abject bust.
10:17Yep. So, um, and I, and like, I'm pretty open about this. I'd be really excited if the Texans
10:22did go for the gusto and get either of those guys. Yeah. If they tried to trade, if they traded
10:26for
10:27Trent Williams and I, with Trent Williams, I actually have more of an appetite for it because I'm,
10:31I suspect that if the Texans did make some play for Trent Williams, they would give him, uh,
10:38a manageable lucrative contract, like short term, but very guaranteed. And, uh, and along the lines
10:46of Daniil Hunter, they've already set a template where they've given Daniil Hunter pretty much a
10:51fully guaranteed contract and they just keep extending it as long as he's playing well.
10:54Yeah. He wants another year, by the way. Yeah. That might be appetizing to Trent Williams just
10:59because a, he's an older guy. B it's still, he'll still be one of the highest paid offensive
11:05tackles in the league and see he's from here, which, uh, which with, for him that, that might
11:11go along with, those are all great things. Trent Williams is going to cost you a draft pick.
11:15Yeah. You're going to have to trade, you're going to trade some to Trent Williams is still a good
11:18player. So he's going to really, he's still one of the best offensive tackles in the league.
11:22Yeah. Right. Right. And so, and, and I saw you have this in the rundown. I saw the article too.
11:26Jonathan Alexander is saying it might cost as much as a first round pick, the 28th overall pick
11:30might cost you to get Trent Williams. I wouldn't do it for a first round pick. I would go ahead
11:34and
11:34draft a young player. And then, and then I, and then I would go more balls to the wall at
11:38the
11:38interior on the offensive line. That's an approach. Um, they've got a left tackle of the future in
11:43nursery. Certainly not Trent Williams, but you can kind of see a path at tackle. The interiors is the,
11:49is the more worrisome part of the offensive line. So I ask you this, the two splash moves that seem
11:54to be available or at least rumored are Trent Williams or Tyler Linderbaum. If you had to pick one,
12:00if you had to either give Tyler Linderbaum a top of market contract, which would probably be a
12:04four or five year deal for over 20 million a year or make a trade for a reason, whatever the
12:10market
12:10is for a draft pick, and then do a short-term deal with Trent Williams. You can do, you can
12:15do only
12:16one. Yeah. Which would it be? Trent Williams. I love him so much. I honestly, everything I went
12:22through yesterday and I just did a little exercise because I didn't have a whole lot of time. So I
12:25just looked at San Francisco's explosive runs, explosive outside runs, uh, from this last season
12:32and every single freaking one, Trent Williams is out there leading the way, 15, 20 yards downfield,
12:39trucking defensive back. Mashing guys. You know, it's like he's reaching,
12:43reaching defensive ends from a crazy position where it looks like it shouldn't be physically
12:48possible to do. He's everything, whatever the opposite of Laramie Tunsil is, that's what Trent
12:54Williams is in terms of, okay, we've got a pool of really, really good offensive tackles. Um,
13:00give me the one that really, really cares about run blocking. Yeah. The one that's awesome
13:03out on screens, the guy that is the, the just nails in past protection and rarely gets,
13:10rarely gets penalized for false starts. Rarely. He's the opposite of Laramie Tunsil in being a
13:16complete football player. And I think in terms of setting the tone for a room and setting a,
13:21setting an example for a guy like Ariante Urseri about what it's supposed to look like or,
13:25and Blake Fisher for that matter, the Texans haven't had a guy like that in the room in this,
13:30this modern version of the Texans. And he's still a really, really good player. He's just,
13:34I, he's the perfect offensive tackle in my mind. I just love him. And even at age 37,
13:40even at age 37, he's doing stuff. Honestly, I got, I got retroactively angry at Laramie Tunsil
13:48watching Trent Williams out on the, the more boring parts of the game and the run blocking
13:53screens, all of these things. Remember Laramie Tunsil on screens, he'd get out there and just
13:58kind of stand around and watch people run past him to make the tackle.
14:02Thank you for bringing it back up. Yeah. Like all this stuff. He just does everything to a T the
14:07way you want him to, instead of just being all fixed, fixated on his pro football focused pass
14:12protection grade. He's a pure Trent Williams is a blue collar lunch pal type of dude who also
14:19happens to be one of the best offensive tackles in the league. Yep. All right. Uh, we're off and
14:23running, man. That felt good. That was a good opening segment, man. I'm pretty happy with that.
14:27I feel like we saved some lives. I do too. Some people out there that are going to examine
14:31themselves about how easily they can be duped into caring about, man, stop being so you see this,
14:35this text are smart, go USA, but stop using Astros players. That's my opinion of the WBC. Thank you.
14:42Thank you. If we ever had a third person to the booth in here, you'd fit in perfectly. Texter.
