00:00Welcome back to End of the Jungle. He's Andrew Fox Miller. I'm James Rapine and Trey Hendrickson
00:04did not get the franchise tag on Tuesday. The franchise tag window is over, which means he
00:09will become a free agent next week and free to negotiate with other teams for the first time
00:15since 2021 when the Bengals signed him to that four-year $60 million deal. The end of an era,
00:21Trey Hendrickson will play for another team next season. I know the Colts are one of the many teams
00:26that are going to be interested in his services. We talk about how easy Dalton Reisner should have
00:30been, presumably was, since I got it done. The Trey situation is more complicated, of course,
00:35and history tells us that the Bengals don't like complicated. Duke Tobin even alluded to how
00:39complicated the Trey situation was during the combine. Was it the right or wrong decision to
00:44not tag him? Assuming there was a decision to make, assuming there was a team interested in
00:49working on a deal, then I would have wanted the Bengals to navigate the complicated in that
00:54scenario. But maybe there was no decision to make, at least no apparent or reasonable one.
00:59If you know you aren't keeping Trey, if there's no team that's wanting to play around with his
01:05market value, and if there's no, you're assuming he's not going to be willing to sign the franchise
01:09tag. I don't know. You tell me, what do you think? I don't know that maybe there was no decision
01:14to
01:14really make. Yeah. Yeah.
01:16I, it's frustrating. I think that the Bengals viewed this as they know Trey wants to get to
01:23free agency and he's going to make things hard if they do the, and try the tag and trade. I
01:30get
01:30that. I just hate this idea of not getting anything for him. And the thing I hate more than that
01:36is
01:37banking on a potential compensatory pick next off season for Trey Hendrickson. They should be
01:42spending in free agency to a point where there is no comp picks coming their way next off season.
01:47They should be adding body after body, after body, player, after player, after player, and free
01:52agency. And that'll cancel out anything you would potentially get for Trey. So we'll see.
01:57I would have tried to navigate those waters. I get it. It's been a pretty choppy waters over the past
02:05couple of years with Trey, but you're worse. And so all the stuff that comes with them, say what you
02:12want. It's a really good pass rusher and your biggest weakness is pass rush. So you have to
02:17find those pieces. We'll see what they do, but the pressure's on. And part of the pressure being on
02:21is letting one year remove the NFL sack leader, letting him go for free. And we'll see what happens
02:29there, but it leaves me uneasy. Andrew, it does leave me uneasy. I understand it. Man, oh man,
02:35would I have been more proactive in trying to trade them at any point if this was the ultimate result?
02:39They weren't. It didn't happen. Fine. You better get your team in order over the next few weeks.
