00:00you are among the elite few that's jumped below deck franchises what was the most difficult part
00:05of transitioning from sailing yacht to down under i think just because sailing yacht was like my
00:11comfort zone i you know worked with glenn for several years we had a lot of the returning
00:16and same crew members and also parsifal i knew parsifal so down under was a new place it was
00:22the caribbean not the med new captain new crew new boat so it was a lot of changes captain glenn
00:29is so beloved by the below deck fandom can you tell me about the conversation you had with him
00:34where you shared you were going to go work for captain jason there wasn't really a conversation
00:39and the reason being was because you know i didn't really know what was happening with me
00:44and so i was trying to figure that out and then it happens very quickly or you kind of find
00:48out that
00:48you're joining the boat and you go into packing mode organization mode but he did text me when i
00:54arrived on the boat and congratulated me and offered me his support and i know him and jason spoke about
00:59it as well and so yeah we love glenn so i hope he's he's doing well and yeah i loved
01:05working for
01:05him and how did you build that new working relationship with captain jason i usually have
01:11pretty good working relationships with my captains i think they like to work with me i like to work
01:15with them and we're a team and i think jason and i were very much on the same page of
01:20that we're there
01:20to achieve the same thing he was really helpful when we were down a stew which i think escalated our
01:27relationship i think he gained my respect early on because of that and whereas he could kind of
01:33let me sink a bit whereas he didn't he helped with laundry and he was understanding and i'm very
01:39interested to see what's going to happen with these new feedback cards for the guests this season
01:45their reviews oh wow they're our guests they walk off and a lot of them don't want to tell us
01:50what
01:50they really feel okay i think it's something i can look at as a captain and actually analyze where
01:54things are moving what did you think of this new little wrinkle i thought it was great i was nervous
02:04you know i don't like being held accountable and but you know i felt confident this year my skills and
02:12i was like yeah maybe it is time to see if i'm the problem or if other people are the
02:16problem well i was
02:18going to say if there was any negative feedback which i can't imagine there was which yachty took it
02:24the most to heart you think you know i think you're going to see that ben has a challenging season
02:28this
02:28year and and i think a lot of the feedback forms his name was mentioned i don't necessarily think he
02:35took it personally i think he was probably right to get a little like maybe upset about it that you
02:41know that's not easy and it's not easy to be called out like that so you know ben's a great
02:45chef
02:46but yeah he had a challenging season for sure and you're going to see that in the feedback forms well
02:52seeing you chef ben and joao as the heads of department feels like a historic moment in the franchise
02:58this season i need professional seasoned heads of department there's no room for chaos out here
03:04everyone needs to know their role and execute it so that's why i brought you all here together
03:09what were your initial feelings when you learned that you who you'd be leading with i was so nervous
03:15and you know i really wanted to come in this season feeling really strong i had a difficult season
03:20on my last season of sailing so i wanted to come in show that i could do my job show
03:27them who's
03:27boss and then i saw ben and joao and i was like oh i was like this is definitely a
03:34challenge you
03:34know i know their reputations i know that they have very strong personalities so i definitely walked
03:40away from that kind of round table situation mainly feeling quite anxious and nervous and kind of going
03:46oh i have i really have a challenge on my hands here well and despite his foibles you know chef
03:53ben
03:53is absolutely phenomenal in the galley when it comes to producing food what makes him stand out
03:59against the other yacht chefs you've worked with in the past there's some flaws there which aren't his
04:04cooking skills he is a great chef i think he's more just a bit um discombobulated a little bit
04:12disorganized but you know the passion is there the cooking to her use that word and the cooking skills are
04:18there and ben you know has years of experience and he really does care like i genuinely believe that
04:24he really cares about what he puts out in the plate and and so yeah it was great working with
04:30him and he
04:30is an interesting personality so he was fun to navigate you and joao hit it off joao has got an
04:38agenda with daisy that's a problem i mean he's meant to be my friend daisy why can't you seem to
04:44resist a
04:45boat man's i know it's become my favorite pastime um you know i really wanted to get on with joy
04:54this
04:54year i really wanted to have a strong relationship with um you know the second officer and i think
05:01maybe i took that a bit too far as i got back a bit confused um but yeah we had
05:07fun it you know it's
05:08always nice to be able to have a bit of a softer side you know i work hard it's it's
05:14a bit stressful
05:14sometimes you know it seems like i'm in a bit of a negative headspace i love my job i just
05:20have a
05:20lot of pressure on me so it's nice for me to be softer it's nice for the audience to see
05:26a softer
05:27side and yeah joao was just you know a bit of a a good time in a stressful time we've
05:33seen a lot of
05:34growth from joao over the years on the various shows he's been on you know what drew you to him
05:39in
05:39particular i i think at the end of the day i do have to have a very like strong persona
05:44i really
05:45have to be uh quite strong in my core up against the chef up against the captain up against the
05:51gas
05:52and i think joao it was just nice that i could kind of let my guard down a little bit
05:58i felt really
05:58supported by joao which is i guess what kind of drew me to him so much has been said about
06:04the salt lake
06:04city girls charter you know have you heard from any of the salt lake city women now that their full
06:10charter trip has aired on the show yeah they you know they are absolutely great we saw each other
06:15all at bravo con and they're so supportive online they're you know massive hype girls if you put up a
06:22nice photo and they've all dm'd me and you know they're not upset with anything that got aired
06:28they're professionals they know how it works you know when you've been doing the show for several
06:33seasons they're like they're like we we know we had a great time we know that they treated us really
06:39well even though the public are mad at them and but yeah we got on great and i'd love to
06:44go to salt
06:44lake one i was hoping i'd maybe try and make it up there this winter but i don't think i'm
06:49going to
06:49and but maybe next winter i'll come up and say hi to them i've been watching the show a long
06:53time and
06:54their antics were child play in comparison to some of the things i've seen on the show i agree yes
07:00i agree
07:00and they were lovely to us just not nice to each other and before we wrap i do want to
07:05ask about
07:05your podcast i know you recently started one with mark mcnamara called yacht mess uh can you tell me
07:12about the impetus yeah so mark was a guest on below deck sailing season five and we kept in touch
07:19and
07:19he's um you know presenter comic and he reached out to me with this idea and i've you know been
07:26looking
07:26for ways for the audience to kind of get to know me in other ways because you know i i
07:31have more to
07:32my personality than just being a chief stew and i love it because we make people laugh and to me
07:38i've learned that that's what i want to do in life as my mom said she was like god i
07:42was feeling really
07:43down and i listened to your podcast and it made me really happy it's like oh i love that so
07:48if you're
07:48having a down day and definitely listen to yacht mess right and uh speaking of your family your sister
07:54bonnie has been on the show before uh how is she doing is she proud of you that you've made
08:00um this
08:00transition on the show yeah i think she's super proud of me she is back home in dublin i'm having
08:06an event in london for yacht mess and hopefully she's gonna make it over and we want to have her
08:11in the
08:11podcast because she is also very very funny and loves to take the piss out of me
08:16you
