00:47zone
00:47moments before he hit Mr Tamang
00:50as he crossed Redbridge Lane at 11.33pm on the 18th of October.
00:57Good afternoon, I'm Cameron Vincent, a solicitor from the law firm Lee Day.
01:01We represent the family in a civil claim
01:03and I'm reading a statement prepared by them on their behalf.
01:07Firstly, we would like to thank our close family, relatives and friends
01:10who have provided much-needed help, advice and guidance
01:13during this, the most tragic time of our lives.
01:16Secondly, we extend our immense gratitude and heartfelt thanks
01:19to the London Metropolitan Police, Detectives and Forensics team
01:23for their exceptional dedication and thorough investigation
01:26and the Crown Prosecution Service for recognising the seriousness of this case
01:30and raising the charges.
01:31We speak today with hearts broken beyond repair.
01:34Our only child, a precious soul, has been taken from us far too soon.
01:39He came to the UK to study and create a better life for himself and his family.
01:43Secondly, Justin Clark Samuel has stolen our son's future and ours along with us.
01:48We are relieved that he has pleaded guilty and that he has now been jailed
01:51but we can never forgive him for what he has done.
01:55Today, Justin Clark Samuel has been sentenced to 12 years imprisonment
01:59after his reckless and dangerous driving claimed the life of 20-year-old Yubin Tamang
02:04as he crossed a residential road, hitting him at over double the 30mph speed limit.
02:08On the 18th of October 2025, after consuming quantities of alcohol earlier that evening,
02:15Clark Samuel drove across central London at excess speed and executed dangerous manoeuvres,
02:21only narrowly avoiding other casualties.
02:23After the fatal collision, Clark Samuel did not stop and come to Mr Tamang's aid
02:28but instead continued his journey home where he was later arrested.
02:32Whilst this may be a lesson learnt by Clark Samuel
02:35and those who should think twice before drink driving,
02:37this is a lesson that has to be lived by the loved ones of Mr Tamang
02:41as they now navigate a life without him.
02:44I can only hope that today's sentence offers some sense of justice to Mr Tamang's family
02:48as they continue to grieve the loss of their only child
02:51who would come to the UK to study with the hope of a brighter future
02:55which was instead tragically and needlessly taken from.
