00:00Knife crime is a phrase that we use so we can keep squabbling so we can read the headline and
00:07feel nothing so we can pretend that we're safe. See Daniel Cooper he handed my son's killer a
00:14knife and a balaclava he got seven and a half months. Tanika Parker a teacher by day a drug
00:22dealer by night she drove Renee Bell to murder my son and then she destroyed evidence and she's
00:29been given to two years and eight months. This isn't about knife crime this is about a justice
00:36system that excuses a society that detaches and the culture that forgets and if we keep hiding
00:44behind that label if we keep convincing ourselves that this is someone else's problem that one day
00:50like me you'll get that call and in one breath your entire life will be stolen and that pain
00:58never lets go. The Old Bailey heard how Renee Bell was driven by jealousy and rage when he stabbed his
01:13former friend Josh McKay in the neck in a barber shop in Leighton in East London. The attack took
01:24place on the sixth of July last year in front of Mr McKay's young son as the pair were getting at
01:31their haircuts. The courts heard how Mr McKay had worked supporting young care leavers providing them
01:40with homes and helping them into jobs. He had also helped Bell who later became angry at his refusal to
01:50pay for the production of a music video. Prior to the attack Bell had threatened Mr McKay in a rap video
01:58after the victim had refused to fund his career. So stop calling it knife crime call it what it is
02:08call it murder and start acting like it matters. Today's sentencing changes nothing for me and my family I
02:18will never see my beautiful son and his two children will now face the lives without their hero. To all of
02:25the mothers of the mothers of murdered children I understand your pain
