00:01Final approval is expected next week for a major new sports hub in Holbeck as Leeds City Council's
00:07Executive Board considers whether to appoint a contractor for the scheme. The development,
00:12valued at £15m, would be built on the former Matthew Murray High School site off Brown Lane
00:17East and Ingram Road. Plans include three full-size artificial grass football pitches,
00:22two multi-use games areas and a community building with changing rooms at a cafe.
00:27A children's play area and new walking and running routes are also proposed within the
00:32surrounding green space. Council leaders say the all-weather pitches would help address a shortfall
00:37of more than 20 such facilities across Leeds, reducing pressure on existing grass surfaces
00:42and increasing access to year-round training capacity for local clubs and community teams.
00:48The project is being delivered in partnership with the Football Foundation through its national
00:52park life programme with joint funding from the foundation and council capital budgets.
00:57It would become the third such hub in the city following development at Woodhall in Carverley
01:02and Green Park in Temple Newsome. If approved, construction is expected to begin in August 2026.
01:09The hub would be managed by the National Football Trust, a not-for-profit organisation overseeing
01:14similar sites nationally. Any surplus income generated at the site would be reinvested into council and
01:20other community-owned outdoor sports facilities across the city. Discussions are also underway about
01:25accommodating a new GP surgery.
