Stormont’s First Minister Michelle O’Neill has said it is “absolutely the wrong call” for the UK Government to “join in this war” in Iran.Ms O’Neill also defended her decision not to attend a briefing on the situation alongside deputy First Minister Emma Little-Pengelly, who said she was told there are “many, many thousands of people” from Northern Ireland in countries being targeted by Iran.

00:00I think any of us reflecting on the last 48 hours can only be seriously alarmed about a war that
00:07has started and where does this all end. A war that should never have begun but a war that now
00:12needs to be ceased. What we need to see is dialogue, what we need to see is respect for
00:16international law and unfortunately that is not the case at this moment in time but
00:21I certainly make that case very strongly that we need to see negotiation, we need to see people
00:26around the table, we need to see a plan to end this war and an end to the destruction and
00:32the
00:32devastation. You only have to look at events of Saturday of what happened to over 150 children
00:38in Iran and then what is spelled out even from that, more loss of life, more death and destruction.
00:43I want to see this come to an end. I fundamentally disagree with the British government's approach,
00:48the fact that they have now joined this reckless war and I have made that very clear to them as
00:52well but I will continue to engage in terms of humanitarian issues in terms of trying to get
00:57people safely removed and back home with their loved ones.
