00:00Which is so funny that it goes up to 10 and two and a half is so loud.
00:03Right here is the workhorse of the whole rig.
00:06Our bass drops come from me, so kind of blowing the 808s out through here.
00:10So this is kind of almost its own separate little pedal board.
00:39Hey guys, it's Johnny from Greyhaven.
00:42We're out on our headline tour right now supporting our new record Keep It Quiet.
00:46We're here to do a little rundown of my riff.
00:49Yeah, this is my main bass.
00:52Kind of been my go-to for years now.
00:55Kind of over the top P bass.
00:57Got the PJ pickups in it.
01:01I literally use none of this at all.
01:05I'm really ready to get a just straight forward P bass.
01:08No frills.
01:10I kind of did this thinking I would like all the options.
01:14And immediately realized I just like straight forward.
01:16The P bass SVT combo is just perfect.
01:19So yeah, I've been running this.
01:22I kind of have a backup kind of just to have.
01:24But I love the P bass.
01:25I like the thicker neck on them as well.
01:29But yeah, Fender kind of does no wrong to me.
01:31So this is my go-to.
01:33Both sets of pickups are on.
01:36But everything is just like stock on there.
01:39Kind of just set to noon except volume.
01:42Volume is really the only thing I play with at all.
01:44I kind of, the annoyance is almost me having to always double check that everyone's just set straight.
01:49If it was my choice, I would just have a volume knob.
01:53Nothing else.
01:54Just, and again, I don't even really want the J pickup.
01:57Just center P pickups volume knob.
02:00That's like the dream bass to me.
02:01It's just like, I don't, you know, I don't really need any of that.
02:04Even in the studio, I feel like we don't really mess with tonal differences in terms of like pushing them
02:09from like mid to, or like pushing the bass or treble or anything.
02:14I kind of just like it standard and playing with like pedals in the amp for any other tonal changes.
02:19So we're in drop B for every song.
02:24I use Ernie Ball 65 130.
02:29So with the 130s, I've had it like literally like kind of wear down, you know, the top of the
02:36nut here just for these 130s to fit in that.
02:39But drop B makes more sense, you know.
02:44Anything lower, it would almost just be nothing.
02:47We like the sound of it, but the 130s hold up really well, especially for a four string.
02:51It's almost surprising.
02:53That's why I also like the Fender.
02:54I feel like, I don't, I would assume on the basis would hold up well, but I find this to
02:57just hold up really well with being dropped that low and having that string gauge.
03:01This has been my main rig for a long time now.
03:06I've tried out so many different amps over the years.
03:08I've had this, you know, everyone kind of has the standard 810.
03:12This is from the 80s, I believe.
03:14I bought it off a shop in Louisville, where we're from, years ago.
03:18And I've had to replace a speaker or two through the years, but you know, this thing just has always
03:24just sounded incredible.
03:26So rocked that forever.
03:27And then, yeah, the SGT Classic.
03:29This one's from the 90s.
03:30I believe it's early 2000s is when some parts are starting to get shipped off overseas, and the quality kind
03:38of dipped pretty hard on those.
03:40And so they kind of break out on you a lot.
03:43So, I spent some research on it and making sure I'm getting the right model.
03:46But yeah, I've been rocking this thing forever now.
03:50Tried a bunch of old amps in the past, tested them all out, but the, like I said, P-Base
03:55SVT, it's just a classic combo.
03:57That's like my go-to.
03:58Little bit per room.
04:00I'll push the gain a little bit, just to push the tubes.
04:05And same with the Master.
04:06I really don't like to go below the like two and a half mark, which is so funny that it
04:11goes up to 10, and two and a half is so loud.
04:14But once you like dip under that, I feel like you really start to lose the tone on it.
04:17So it's kind of always having to fight room to room to be like, staying here so that it doesn't
04:22lose the tone.
04:24But yeah, kind of, I mean, I just kind of have everything kind of dialed at like one o'clock.
04:29But it does change.
04:30Yeah, room to room, sometimes it feels so bass heavy that I kind of pull the bass back to get
04:34the mid-range kind of punchy in instead.
04:37I like to kind of play, you know, all around the neck.
04:40So I really do want to hear both treble and mid-range and not get that lost.
04:43I don't want it to just be like, just driving the bass the whole time and just feeling like it's
04:47filling it out.
04:48I'm still trying to have like presence in there.
04:50So I try to keep that.
04:51Some of these knobs are like straight up broken right now.
04:53So that like doesn't matter.
04:55I keep it on three at all times, but that knob is just hanging on.
05:00But yeah, that's the main rig there.
05:02Yeah.
05:03So, you know, this looks overwhelming, but it's so fun.
05:08Most of this has nothing to do with the actual tone here.
05:13We've got noise suppressor here.
05:15This thing is brilliant.
05:16You know, you throw the Zool, you throw this all the way up.
05:20I could have two, three overdrives on at once without any feedback.
05:24And then, you know, this is just power supply.
05:26It's got my girl Edna on there, of course.
05:31DI box.
05:33I run two loop stations here.
05:36One for samples.
05:37We don't do any backtracking, anything like that at all.
05:41But there's a couple songs where something kind of happens before the song kicks in.
05:45So kind of have a loop here to send that out.
05:49And then our bass drops come from me.
05:52So kind of blowing the 808s out through here.
05:54So this is kind of almost its own separate little pedal board.
05:58Then obviously tuner.
05:59But this is kind of my main deal here.
06:02The Alpha Omega from, I'm blanking on the brand right now, Darkglass.
06:09That's my main overdrive.
06:11I've been using that for years.
06:12Norma Jean actually turned me on to it and have loved it ever since.
06:17Kind of keep everything at 2 o'clock and have just enjoyed it.
06:21But that's been my main overdrive.
06:22I also like the simplicity.
06:23I had done the bigger version before and it's just kind of too much for me.
06:29The Sans amp here, funny enough, is mainly used here for my clean channel.
06:35I crafted it years ago.
06:36I don't even have any idea what I did.
06:38But I love the way this sounds.
06:41It's just like a really, really warm boost.
06:43Rather than just the DI on the SVT, which can be a little clunky,
06:47this is just really, really smooth for all of our soft parts.
06:50So I kind of hop onto that.
06:52This is kind of like a fuzz I had planted in here.
06:55I really only use it once during our set.
06:57And same with this.
06:59This is just like a absolutely crazy overdrive.
07:02I kind of throw it on.
07:03Like I said, I kind of boost this up, throw them on at once for certain parts
07:06just to be like as thick and crazy sounding as possible.
07:10But these are kind of my main two.
07:12Just soft channel, overdrive channel.
07:15And then this octave pedal, we've used it on some songs before.
07:19I mainly use it for kind of fun noises, kind of buildups,
07:24or just in between songs, just goofy things.
07:27Just like I said, we don't run samples.
07:29We don't run tracks or anything like that.
07:30So I think in between songs, we're just kind of always playing around,
07:34you know, making noises.
07:36So this is just the fun pedal there.
07:38But yeah, this is kind of right here is the workhorse of the whole rig.
07:43Yeah, I use the blue Tortex Picks one millimeter, a little thicker.
07:51I play pretty heavy.
07:52So I like kind of the give on how thick these are.
07:55I use my fingers as well, kind of song to song or any kind of soft part we do.
07:59I kind of throw this guy in my mouth and just pluck instead.
08:03But that's kind of why I always keep a little too many right here and throw it in the mouth.
08:07Sometimes it's just easier to grab a new one.
08:11But yeah, that's kind of my whole main rig here.
08:14As I said, no in-ears, no samples.
08:16We're just all in wedges just kind of rocking.
08:19So thanks for watching.
08:21And thanks to anyone who's came out to this tour so far.
08:23We still have about a week of it left.
08:24So I hope to see you at a show.
