00:00Let's get to some of the teams here.
00:02Yankee pitching, in your opinion, Bobby, you think it holds up this year?
00:08I have no idea.
00:11You know, you have to see guys and you have to see teams come.
00:15You know, for me, it was always about June 5th to 15th where I knew what my team was
00:21and I knew what most of the other teams were.
00:24And then you had to figure out how to do battle or make changes along the way.
00:30You know, the Yankees are a little thin, I think.
00:32I think they're thin in the bullpen.
00:34I think, you know, the guys that they say are going to come back
00:39and they're great pitchers with Cole and all, you don't know that they're going to come back.
00:44You don't know they come back with the same physicality
00:47and you don't know if they come back with the same mentality.
00:51So you have to play that card when it's dealt.
00:55And, you know, again, once again, it's lucky it's a long season.
00:59And a lot happens at 162 games.
01:02You know, I'm going to go back to the Mets here.
01:04Peralta was named a starter for the Mets.
01:07They have enough starting pitching to get through that National League East?
01:12If their young pitchers progress.
01:14And, you know, that's one of those things when you come into a major league season
01:19and you had a guy who had a good couple months or even a good year in the major leagues.
01:24And you wonder if, you know, he progresses in the same level, if he trends upward, if he goes downward.
01:32You know, you need to have those guys who are 28 years old with five years under their belt.
01:38You know, being hungry, thinking about being a free agent.
01:42You get a whole team full of those guys.
01:43And then you can start making some predictions.
01:46But I think with the Mets, you know, lots riding on young pitching.
01:50And New York City is not really the place to sharpen your teeth, as Frank Howard used to say.
01:57Bo Bichette now is with the Mets.
02:00You know, it's a one-year deal kind of in a way.
02:03You know, he leads the Blue Jays.
02:05In your opinion, the impact you think he has with the Mets?
02:09Oh, he'll have impact, you know, especially with the, you know, hitting from the right side
02:15and trying to make up for some lost power at first base.
02:21That's the problem that, you know, Bichette's a lot different offensive player than Alonzo was.
02:29But a lot of fans are going to say, oh, well, we need this guy.
02:33We need Alonzo batting behind Soto.
02:36We need, you know, home runs.
02:38And, you know, if he listens to the chatter out there and gets distracted, that season starts to pass by
02:48quickly.
02:48And there's no catching up in New York.
02:51I've hardly ever seen guys catch up.
02:54Mike Piazza did.
02:55You know, he got there.
02:57He got booed.
02:58He got a little underwater.
02:59And he did the backstroke out and came up as an Olympic gold medal winner.
03:05But it's hard in that environment because there's so many distractions when things are going good.
03:13And there's so many distractions when things are going bad.
03:16And, you know, we'll see how, you know, those newcomers do in New York.
03:22It's a tough environment.
03:23A couple last questions.
03:24A couple last questions here for Bobby V here.
03:27Bobby, do you think the Blue Jays keep that momentum going?
03:29They've got a lot in the pitching staff right now.
03:31In your opinion, Blue Jays, are they the team to beat in the American League?
03:35Or do you think it's Seattle, Toronto, maybe New York?
03:40Baltimore did a lot, too, this offseason here.
03:42Who do you like in the American League?
03:46Hey, you know, it's tough for me to tell.
03:48I never, as I told you, Dan, I don't pick teams on paper.
03:52I pick them when I see them on the field, see how they come together, see how they're playing, see
03:57what their health is.
03:58But, you know, you spend $210 million in the offseason, and you're coming off of a World Series team.
04:05You know, I think they have lofty goals and have a chance.
04:11But, again, no, I don't think anyone is a clear-cut favorite in the American League.
04:16There is one clear-cut favorite in the National League, and the 162 games will tell who plays.
