00:01FANTASIC VULH!
00:16There was just so much care and love that was put into this family.
00:20Our hope is for that to translate into the movie.
00:24Casting really is a gamble.
00:25Who knows if we were going to get along.
00:57Não, Johnny.
00:59Eu não quero!
01:00Todos nós queríamos trazer as muita humanidade para nós possivelmente.
01:04Você encontrava essas coisas que ajudaram a contar a história.
01:08Nós vamos derrotar isso juntos.
01:12Como uma família.
01:16Nós realmente minemos todas as nuances,
01:39The Fantastic Four, First Steps.
02:01Achei!
02:02Nós vamos construir este mundo de retros futuros.
02:05construir real sets, real locais.
02:08Reed's Lab, The Baxter Building,
02:11esse incrível Time Square Backlot set.
02:15Fire it up!
02:20We built practical suits.
02:33We are your family.
02:36Just seeing the four of them together
02:38is going to be worth the price of admission.
02:40Fantastic!
02:50The Fantastic Four were created in the 60s.
02:53It was the time of optimism,
02:55of looking to the stars.
02:56We're putting in our own version of the 60s
02:59in this retro future world.
03:00Matt challenged us at the early stages
03:02to try and do as much as we could practically.
03:05We built this incredible Times Square Backlot set,
03:08unbelievable sets for Reed's Lab
03:10and the Baxter Building Department.
03:11We went on location to Spain.
03:14There was just so much care
03:15that was put into what the movie looks like.
03:17And I think that that aesthetic
03:19really informed a rich way
03:22of realizing these characters.
03:25It was such an imaginative space.
03:27It wasn't something that anyone had ever seen.
03:30So it was a magical experience.
03:31Herbie!
03:32Having a practical Herbie
03:33just felt like having another actor on set.
03:36I was very excited about Herbie
03:37and the reality of how big of a character
03:39he was going to be just grew and grew.
03:41He pretty much does everything
03:43that we'll see him do on screen.
03:44There's just something about Herbie
03:45I kind of fell from pretty quickly
03:47and I felt like we had a shorthand.
03:49I felt like Herbie and Ben
03:50maybe spent a lot of time together.
03:52They were homies in a way.
03:53With Matt Shackman's approach,
03:54he's always done it through the lens
03:56of what was available to filmmakers in the 60s.
03:59It was practically
03:59what can you achieve in camera.
04:01So why not shoot a miniature rocket?
04:03The miniature of the Excelsior spaceship
04:04behind us is 1 30th scale.
04:06It's about 13 1⁄2 feet long.
04:08Feels very much of the time
04:09but also retro future as well.
04:12Are we safe?
04:15And then Galactus is huge, you know,
04:17and one of the things we wanted
04:19to make sure that we captured
04:20was that scale.
04:21We approached it practically.
04:22It needs a tremendous amount of light.
04:24It needs special lenses.
04:26The biggest challenge was
04:27to make something on a human scale
04:29that we know is going to be blown up
04:30into an absolutely gigantic character.
04:33so every little bit of detail on him
04:35has to be minute
04:36so that when he is blown up
04:38to that huge scale,
04:39it all feels very real.
04:41With all of these things,
04:43what they've done with this world
04:45is beautiful.
04:46It was just so fun
04:47to step into an era
04:49that felt so familiar
04:52and yet so otherworldly,
04:54so nostalgic and futuristic
04:56at the same time.
04:57It's very intentionally
04:59a cinematic experience.
05:02We will face this together
05:04as a family.
05:13The world of the Fantastic Four
05:16is so big
05:18it naturally lends itself
05:20to IMAX.
05:25Okay, that's fantastic.
05:30We are doing something very unique.
05:34Fantastic Four takes place
05:35in its own world.
05:38We designed the movie
05:39to be entirely in IMAX.
05:42You're going to space
05:43but also you're in Manhattan
05:45which is a vertical city
05:46and we captured that scale.
05:49And then you have the largest thing
05:52in the universe
05:53and the world adjusts.
06:01This movie celebrates
06:03the IMAX format
06:04and you'll feel that
06:05on the big screen.
06:17Fans everywhere
06:19that are incredible.
06:20It's just like
06:21an enormous English embrace.
06:31It's an experience
06:32it starts
06:33and you're immediately involved
06:34it's immersive
06:35it's just a wonderful
06:36summer movie.
06:42It's huge scale
06:43so it's definitely worth
06:44seeing on the big screen.
06:48Hello Hyde Park.
06:50We are thrilled
06:50to introduce
06:51the world premiere
06:53of the music
06:53from our movie.
07:03It's a huge honor
07:05to be able to
07:05bring these characters
07:06to life
07:07and bring them
07:07to the MCU.
07:22You know it has been amazing
07:24to go into different cities
07:25and countries
07:26and see
07:29meet the fans
07:30and feel the love
07:33that the fans have
07:34for these characters.
07:36it's been
07:37something that I've always
07:38known was there
07:39but to literally
07:40hear it
07:42and see it
07:42and feel it
07:43has been
07:44pretty unbelievable
07:45to be honest with you.
07:48I'm coming to Los Angeles
07:50with my head spinning
07:51and I know that
07:54this movie exists
07:55because of the love
07:55that they have
07:56for these characters
07:57and we put a lot
07:59of love
08:00into this movie
08:01from top
08:02to bottom
08:03director,
08:04writer,
08:05cast,
08:06crew,
08:07all departments
08:07and it's just
08:09a lot of love
08:10that we're really
08:11excited to share
08:11with the world.
08:12Yeah it's just
08:13it's so exciting
08:15because you know
08:16Shawball has never
08:18been portrayed
08:18on screen before
08:19and just getting
08:22this opportunity
08:23was both very scary
08:26but also really exciting
08:28at the same time
08:29because the fans
08:30you know you want
08:30to respect the fans
08:31and yeah it's just
08:33it's really important
08:34but it's also
08:35really exciting.
08:36It's exciting
08:37to have people
08:38so excited
08:39about something.
08:40Well it's no small thing
08:42I think to get on a plane
08:43halfway across the world
08:46or on the other side
08:47of the world
08:47I should say
08:48and to be met
08:49with a reaction
08:50that is as effusive
08:51as somewhere in Europe
08:52these characters
08:54have a global resonance
08:56like people respond to them
08:58because I think
08:58the messages
08:59and the themes
09:00are so human
09:02that it's about
09:04family,
09:05bravery,
09:06sacrifice,
09:07destiny
09:08these are
09:08kind of aspects
09:10of life that are
09:11it doesn't matter
09:12where you are
09:13in the world
09:13it still means
09:14something to people.
09:15Well they were humans
09:16before their accident
09:16and so I think
09:17that's a real
09:19that really defines
09:20them somehow
09:21you know
09:21because it was only
09:22four years
09:23since this accident
09:23and they've had to adapt
09:25and now
09:27they have
09:28they have
09:28you know
09:29really made
09:29a decision
09:32to
09:33even though
09:34they're so well known
09:35you know
09:35to stay
09:36and live together
09:36and to be part
09:37of this little family
09:37and Sue and Rita
09:39trying for a baby
09:40and you know
09:42they're still doing
09:43the washing up
09:43and all the normal things
09:44just because they're
09:45superheroes
09:45they happen to be
09:46superheroes second
09:47you know
09:47yeah it's deeply humbling
09:48you know
09:48we've been all over
09:49the world
09:49and I don't know
09:51the love for
09:52the Fantastic Four
09:53had nothing to do
09:54with us
09:54but just you know
09:55this costume
09:56this comic
09:57that's been around
09:58this wonderful family
10:00penned by Jack Kirby
10:01that's been here
10:01for over 60 years
10:03it means so much
10:04to people
10:05that I don't know
10:07I just feel deeply
10:08deeply honoured
10:08to get to
10:09that I've been trusted
10:10to be the custodian
10:12of Ben Grimm
10:12for this little bit
10:13of time
10:14well it really does
10:15feel like a big event
10:16and that's always fun
10:18and I think it's
10:19just might be appropriate
10:21because the movie
10:22is just so good
10:23and unique
10:24and a world
10:26all its own
10:27and the actors
10:28are just so great
10:29in this
10:30so I'm very honoured
10:32to be a part of it
10:32it's bright
10:34it's fun
10:34the retro futuristic
10:36kind of live action
10:37Jackson style
10:38is great
10:39and this family
10:41they've been around
10:42for generations
10:43and generations
10:44of us
10:44you know
10:45there's grandparents
10:46who are fantastic
10:48four fans
10:48there'll be new generations
10:50that'll
10:50a new generation
10:51will discover them
10:53again through this film
10:54so it's
10:54yeah it's a wonderful thing
10:56it's a big family film
10:57bring everybody together
10:58oh it's going to be
10:59the music is going to be great
11:00I just saw little snippets
11:02of the trailer
11:02I haven't seen the film yet
11:03but I just know
11:04it's going to be
11:05it's going to be fantastic
11:06it really harks to
11:07it's sentimental
11:08in that time frame
11:09and you've got this whole family
11:11together fighting
11:12you know
11:12for the world
11:13as well as themselves
11:13yeah
11:14yeah
11:16I think they
11:18amidst all the grandiosity
11:19of the world
11:20that we're portraying
11:21I think there's also
11:23a lot of groundedness
11:24and it's talking about
11:26themes of family
11:27and change and transitions
11:28and coping
11:30and I think
11:31that's probably very relatable
11:33and
11:34you know
11:35even though
11:35you know what's really good
11:36is it's representing
11:37people that have these superpowers
11:40but they're still vulnerable
11:41and they're still like everybody else
11:43well you know
11:44this is Marvel's first family
11:45it was a bold
11:46and amazing idea
11:47to center a superhero team
11:48around a real family
11:49back in the 60s
11:50it's one of the reasons
11:51why it's been so successful
11:52family
11:53they're relatable
11:54they're like us
11:54all the messiness
11:55all the heart
11:56all the humor
11:56they can do some amazing things
11:58we can't do
11:58but they're also very much like us
12:00and I think that's what makes them
12:01so appealing
12:01it's a very different score
12:03for this movie
12:04than it has been
12:05for all of the other movies
12:06and I've done a lot of work
12:07with Marvel over the years
12:08but this score
12:09is filled with hope
12:11and optimism
12:12in a way
12:12that a lot of times
12:14you don't get to do
12:14in superhero movies
12:15because they're always so like
12:16worried about what's going on
12:18and what they got to do
12:19and this was a movie
12:20that just felt different to me
12:21and it felt like it was coming
12:22from a time of
12:24like I said
12:25of optimism
12:25and I just wanted to be
12:28wrapped in that era
12:30that the family was living in
12:31I wanted to be in that
12:32sort of 60s era
12:33and combine that feeling
12:35of that NASA
12:36that real great NASA stuff
12:38or the right stuff
12:39remember that movie
12:39the right stuff
12:40combined with this
12:41this hope and fun
12:42of the Disneyland
12:43electric light parade
12:44like to me
12:45those two things
12:46smashed together
12:47that's what this movie is to me
12:49for you know
12:50writers we thrive on conflict
12:51so we wanted to put a lot of
12:52apply a lot of pressure
12:53to that family unit
12:55and you always want to
12:56bring it to the verge
12:57of breaking it
12:58so you had to find love
13:01in them
13:02and then test it
13:03and that was
13:03that was fun
13:04and sometimes we went
13:05a little too far
13:06sometimes we had to
13:07pull it back
13:07sometimes we didn't
13:08go far enough
13:08but that's always
13:09that's fun with
13:10exploring new characters
13:11so I have the honor
13:12to be with Jillian Kirby
13:14who is the granddaughter
13:15of Jack Kirby
13:16the creator
13:17of the Fantastic Four
13:18yeah it's
13:19it's incredibly exciting
13:20for you know
13:21me and my family
13:22I think the Fantastic Four
13:23is one of those
13:25creations of my grandfather
13:26that is so close to home
13:28in terms of how much
13:28it connects to our family
13:30personally right
13:31I mean you have Sue Storm
13:32named after my aunt Susan
13:34and Ben Grimm named after
13:35my great-grandfather Benjamin
13:36so it's a central theme
13:38of the movie is family
13:39and it was really emotional
13:41I think to get to see
13:42all of that
13:43and all of the spirit
13:44of my grandfather
13:45come through
13:45on the big screen again
13:47I mean it's called
13:47The Fantastic Four
13:48and it is the original
13:51Marvel family
13:52the story is completely
13:54about family
13:55given family
13:56chosen family
13:57expanding family
13:58and that as a family
14:00and only as a family
14:01can we save humankind
14:02well I think what makes
14:04these characters relatable
14:05you know first of all
14:07the Fantastic Four
14:08is the first family
14:09in the you know
14:10and it's really
14:13yes it's superhuman
14:15superhero it's Marvel
14:16but it's really a film
14:18about community
14:19family and love
14:21and connection
14:22and that's what I love
14:24about this
14:25and The Fantastic Four
14:26the four actors
14:27have amazing chemistry
14:29so I think people
14:30are really going to love that
14:31it was very fun to do
14:34Eben is an incredibly playful
14:37hilarious actor
14:38and thankfully
14:39we were playing
14:40two characters
14:41that needed to kind of
14:43bounce off each other
14:44in that regard
14:44so what we were doing
14:46off camera
14:46at lunches
14:47and all of that
14:48kind of stuff
14:49we just let that
14:50kind of bleed into
14:51to the on camera
14:53relationship too
14:53it's truly a family movie
14:55like about family
14:56for family
14:58I don't know
14:59it moves
14:59it's got a like
15:00a fizziness to it
15:02it's exciting
15:02it's transporting
15:04like the world
15:05that they've created
15:06Matt Jackman
15:07the director
15:07the vision
15:08like you're really
15:09immersed
15:09you're really transported
15:10for two hours
15:11it's um
15:11I don't know
15:13it's a very
15:13it's a beautiful
15:15bubble bath
15:16of a movie
15:17on a personal level
15:18I can't wait for them
15:19to hear my Galactus voice
15:21and hear what the sound
15:22engineers have done
15:23with it
15:23and the mixes
15:25and how that works
15:26on the iMac speakers
15:27and all of that
15:28kind of thing
15:28I want them to discover
15:29that
15:29but yeah
15:30I can't wait for them
15:32to discover the family
15:33as well
15:33this incredibly tight-knit
15:35beautiful family
15:36that you really care about
15:37so when
15:38the big bad turns up
15:39you actually
15:40it matters to the audience
15:42because you bonded
15:42so well with the characters
15:45I haven't seen the film yet
15:47but I'm told that
15:48the visuals
15:48and the music
15:49and the performances
15:51are pretty stunning
15:52so I'm really looking forward
15:54to seeing everybody
15:55feel like they're brought
15:56into a new room
15:58in the Marvel house
15:59you know
16:00it's like
16:00you think you've explored
16:02everything
16:02and here's something
16:03brand new
16:03I'm telling you
16:04working with an orchestra
16:05especially one as good
16:07as the ones
16:07that recorded this score
16:10these are people
16:10that practice
16:11all their lives
16:11to do what they do
16:12so when you put a piece
16:13of music in front of them
