00:00Well, first, it's great to be on your inaugural Sunday show.
00:02Thank you so much, sir.
00:05You know, I think, look, the president's trying to negotiate, just like Maduro.
00:10The Iranians are very deceptive.
00:12They're not good faith negotiators.
00:14I believe in his mind, he knew at the end of the day, couldn't trust them.
00:17And he went to plan B.
00:20This was what was interesting to me is the targets.
00:22It was no longer about eviscerating the nuclear sites, but rather going into regime change.
00:30I mean, to see the compound of the Ayatollah just completely blown up.
00:35And we know that not only was he taken out, but his top advisers and the IRGC.
00:41This was a significant event.
00:43And I don't want to diminish the sort of greatness of this moment.
00:48But since 1979, there's been a dark veil that descended across the Middle East.
00:54And that shroud has now been lifted.
00:57And the people of Iran now have a chance for freedom and a chance to take back their country.
01:02And since 1979, we've seen what Iran has done as the largest state sponsor of terror.
01:08You know, they've had their proxies.
01:11And it's not just Israel.
01:13Everybody talks all about Israel.
01:14They also sent drones to kill Ukrainians.
01:19They also fueled China's imperial war machine.
01:24And, you know, what's interesting, lastly, Christina, is, you know, the typical allies here, they have completely turned off the
01:34Gulf states from them.
01:35I mean, with this miscalculation of hitting not only our military bases, but hotels in the Gulf states surrounding Iran,
01:44they are now aligned with the United States and Israel against Iran.
01:49And where is China and Russia?
01:51They're nowhere to be found.
01:52So I understand, you know, the veteran standpoint, Iraq, Afghanistan, I understand all that.
02:00The difference is Iran is all alone now.
02:03And there's no one there to save them.
02:05And their leadership is completely decapitated such that there is no serious governance that can take place.
02:13I do think it's time for the people to rise up.
02:16I think the big question for me is, what do we have in place to help these people rise up?
02:22And what is Israel doing?
02:24Let me go there if I could, because that's my question of the morning, which is the government may be
02:28out.
02:28You have this vacuum.
02:29How does the U.S. encourage that to happen here without boots on the ground?
02:32Which I think, dare I say, you and others in the Congress are probably reluctant to have be the case
02:36going forward here.
02:37How does the U.S. and Israel encourage the growth of a new administration, new government in Iran, barring that?
02:45That's a great question.
02:46I think it is a question of the hour.
02:48I think we got us in trouble in Iraq, if I can go back to Iraq and Afghanistan.
02:52We had a chance to kill Bin Laden early on, and we missed him.
02:56Here we did.
02:57We killed the Ayatollah.
02:59He is gone.
03:00Our presence there evoked the jihadists.
03:04So it was our boots on the ground in Iraq and Afghanistan that drew like a magnet the jihadists to
03:10us.
03:10We're not going to see that in this case.
03:12And I have to think that Israel is probably the one in the best position to effectuate help with not
03:23only communications, but weapons and leadership.
03:26And those are the three elements I talk about a lot.
03:29I don't know who the next leader of Iran is going to be.
03:32I don't see weapons right now, but that's possible.
03:36And the communications, we've got to get Starlink in there.
03:40I know they were trying to, but Iran was taking out those terminals.
03:46I think that's going to be a big change when Starlink gets back up and they can communicate amongst themselves.
03:51Now, I remember the last strike in the 10-day war, whatever it was, that I was surprised at what
03:59the presence of the assets Israel had on the ground in Iran to take out these targets.
04:06And I think everyone in the intelligence community was equally surprised by the presence they had.
04:13So I do think Israel is probably in the better position.
04:17If it does need boots on the ground, certainly Israel is better.
04:21I don't see this president putting American boots on the ground.
04:24I want to ask you, there's been some reporting that members of Congress are going to be getting some briefings
04:30maybe as soon as today or tomorrow.
04:32I'm wondering if there's anything you can say about that, what briefings or information you've received from the White House
04:37so far.
04:38And then I also want to ask you about this War Powers resolution that some of your colleagues are trying
04:42to send to the floor and whether or not you'll support it.
04:46Sure. So a couple of things. War Powers Act has been invoked.
04:51This was a this was a military, the use of our military in a foreign land in a strike situation.
05:03So that prong has been fulfilled.
05:05Therefore, within 48 hours, a notification has to come to the Congress, notifying us of the circumstances, the legal justification
05:14and the extent and duration of the conflict.
05:17If the conflict exceeds 60 days, it needs authorization from Congress.
05:21Now, Congress can do that prior.
05:24Typically, it has not in the past.
05:27We do have briefings scheduled this week that will be classified briefings and in what's called the SCIF.
05:35That's a classified briefing space.
05:37What information will you be looking for in those briefings?
05:39What questions do you have for the administration?
05:42I think for me, next steps.
05:44Look, this was a once again, like Venezuela, a masterful military executed plan.
05:53Flawless. No Americans were killed.
05:56What I'm looking for is what's the overall objective moving forward.
06:01It's clearly not just taking out military sites now.
06:04It's about regime change.
06:06And I would like to know what objectives are at hand and what what is what are the next steps
06:13in place and how long will our involvement take place?
06:17If I can say as chairman of foreign affairs committee, I was trying to update these old AUMS from the
06:242001.
06:252001.
06:262001.
06:262001.
06:262001.
