00:00Coach, how are the coaching staff of the team and how are the coaching staff of the team?
00:14First of all, everyone within the team, our condolences go out to Rink and his family.
00:20It's obviously a very sad time when something like this happens and he hasn't joined the team yet.
00:27And he'll continue to get the love and support from everyone in the group.
00:33He's planned to join us later this evening.
00:36And like I said, we just need to get around him and help him through this very difficult time.
00:53Ryan, a virtual quarter-final there against West Indies. Just one...
01:03A virtual quarter-final there tomorrow. Just one day of preparation.
01:07What is your message going to be to the group?
01:10Because you regrouped well against Zimbabwe in Chennai and now this game against West Indies.
01:15The pitch looks a bit dry and runs on offer.
01:17So how do you assess the whole situation and where do you find yourself in the tournament?
01:21Because one defeat could well draw curtains on the campaign.
01:25Yeah, I mean South Africa the only undefeated team in the competition now.
01:29And you know the tournament or a tournament of this magnitude kind of builds in stature
01:34and builds to this point for everyone now where it's a quarter-final and you have to win to stay.
01:39And I think the important thing is to, you know, focus on ourselves.
01:42Focus on what has got this group to this point. How well they've done.
01:47And you know now there's only quality players left in the tournament.
01:50So it's about big players standing up, experienced players standing up and just remaining calm
01:55and staying true to the way we've played leading up to this match.
01:59Right, I mean going into the tournament, Sanju obviously was in the scheme of things.
02:05Then he did not start in the Mumbai game for the start of the tournament.
02:10Then again he came into the 11 in Delhi.
02:14Now again in Chennai you have to suffer the batting order as well.
02:17So in the middle of the tournament if you have to suffer the batting line up, how challenging it is?
02:24I think it's a testament to the players that they adapted so well the other night.
02:29You know, we've always spoken about versatility and being able to play different roles
02:33and in different circumstances.
02:35So I thought the other night in Chennai was a good example of that.
02:39I thought Tillich looked really good at five or six where he came in in that role
02:43for someone who's batted three for the majority of the last 18 months.
02:46I thought he did fantastically well.
02:49And now we've got options, you know, going to this last phase of the tournament.
02:53Against West Indies, again, we'll have a proper look at the pitch
02:55and decide what combination we're going to put out there.
02:59But, you know, certainly Sanju coming back after sitting on the side for so long,
03:03he looked in good touch.
03:04He made some good choices and he got us out the blocks quickly.
03:06And it wasn't a scorecard that was dominated by anyone, but everyone chipped in.
03:13And, you know, that's sort of our modus operandi.
03:15We just want guys to focus on partnerships and keep the rate going quickly throughout the innings.
03:20And everyone did really well at that the other night.
03:23Very good afternoon, Tomal from Khadar Khadar.
03:25Tomorrow is a do or die match.
03:27How much prepared your team?
03:29How much?
03:30Prepared your team?
03:31Yeah, the team is very prepared.
03:34You know, these are professionals who live for these moments.
03:37It was a quick turnaround from the disappointment of South Africa.
03:40I thought the guys would group really well in the prep in Chennai for those couple of days.
03:44And we've had a nice day off yesterday, a travel day.
03:47And you'll see nearly everyone's here today for the optional session.
03:51And we've just been through our plans in the team meeting and just a little bit of fine-tuning now
03:55just to get used to the surface, have a look around and make sure we focus on ourselves
04:00and put our best foot forward tomorrow in a crucial game.
04:23Yeah, I don't think there's many lineups that can boast Romario Shepard walking in at number nine.
04:29But I think that's also a feature of all the teams in the tournament now.
04:33Certainly the teams that have done well.
04:34England bat really deep.
04:36New Zealand bat really deep.
04:37India bat really deep.
04:39You know, we have the luxury of someone like Axel if he doesn't come in early, coming in at eight.
04:43So you have to focus on taking wickets.
04:46I think that old-school way of just containing in T20 cricket has gone out.
04:51You know, we feel West Indies play a risk-reward game of high proportion in both aspects of that.
04:58And as a bowling unit, we're really looking forward to that challenge.
05:01We know there's kinks there where we can get wickets.
05:04And our plan tomorrow will be to attack the whole 20 overs and peg them back in that way,
05:08much like South Africa did.
05:11But yeah, it's certainly going to be a challenge.
05:13The surface looks pretty good, so it could be a high-scoring game.
05:16And as well as throwing punches with the ball, we're going to have to make sure that we're brave with
05:19the bat as well
05:20and maintain a high strike rate and high intent throughout the innings as well.
05:25Hi Ryan, Shreesh from CrickInfo here.
05:28India do not always have to play such high-pressure games because they're always so good.
05:32But given that the West Indies game is now coming up and as we have discussed that it's a virtual
05:37quarter-final,
05:38beyond the points of execution and skills, what sort of mental work needs to be done in the background leading
05:44up to a game like this
05:45so that the players do not get overawed or do not fall in a misstep?
05:50Just let me complete the question.
05:52Even in the 2024 T20 World Cup final, at least there were senior guys like Rohit and Virat.
05:57But here you can see the obvious change in guard and the much younger players.
06:02So the pressure must be extreme, isn't it?
06:04Even if you sort of mask it by other conversations, it's quite real, isn't it?
06:11Yeah, I don't think you ever want to mask pressure.
06:14I think you want to go towards pressure and that's been the message throughout.
06:16Not just the World Cup, but certainly all the bilateral series.
06:19All our preparation towards us has been going towards the pressure when it comes.
06:23And I think more than masking it, you want to reframe it.
06:27We continue telling the guys, you know, what a privilege it is to play for your country,
06:32what a privilege it is to walk out at Eden Gardens and play for a match to stay in the
06:37tournament.
06:39In terms of mechanisms, you know, guys each have their own routines, you know, have their own mental models.
06:45But generally speaking, if you can just focus on the next task when you're under pressure,
06:50what's gone before is gone and whether it's the next ball or the next ball you're facing,
06:54you just have to focus on the next ball.
06:56And I think giving the players the trust that we, you know, back them to execute,
07:03back them all the scaffolding they've done with their own work,
07:05it is four moments like this and it's just a great moment to go out there and just show how
07:09good we are as a team.
07:15Ryan, Eden Gardens has been a venue where fast bowlers taking the pace off has worked really well.
07:21And that's sort of a delivery that's troubled the Indian batters in this tournament.
07:25You've lost about 16 wickets to that kind of pulling, although it worked very well in Chennai.
07:29And West Indies have done well with that variation as well.
07:33So how do you sort of, like, you know, how do you sort of have, do you sort of have
07:36discussions around that?
07:37Do you put that, like, you know, get that out in the nets?
07:40How has that been in this tournament?
07:43Yeah, it's a fine line.
07:44Like any challenge you face, you don't want to, you don't want to over-focus it and make it too
07:49much a bigger deal.
07:50And, you know, it'll be maybe a half or 40% of the balls where pace is taken off.
07:56So it certainly is a challenge and something we have spoken about and something the guys will go out and
07:59practice now.
08:00But you also need to rely on intuition and, you know, your gut feel.
08:05And like I say, if you focus too much on one thing, your mind gets clogged up.
08:09So we want the players just to play what they see in front of them.
08:13But obviously to be aware and pre-program how they want to go about certain threats,
08:17like the different slower balls that the West Indies bowlers bowl.
08:20And obviously the different deliveries that Moti and Akil can bowl themselves.
08:26But, you know, again, bringing the focus back to their skills, what our guys do really well.
08:32And just make sure you navigate your way through the challenges that come.
08:36Ryan, Tilak found his mojo in the last game a new batting position that was unfamiliar.
08:42So what kind of work did go into finding, on Tilak finding the form?
08:47And also, is it sacrosanct now that he's going to bat there for the remainder of the matches as and
08:53when India play?
08:55No, it's not a foregone conclusion that he'll bat at five or six tomorrow.
09:01You know, now we do have options.
09:03We've seen at work having Sanju at the top of the order.
09:07You know, they might play chase, they might play Akil.
09:11We kind of bank on them playing chase.
09:14So that is one strategy we have.
09:16And we've got different entry points for the guys ideally where they come in.
09:20And like I said, I thought Tilak the other night, he looked like a number six.
09:23He looked like someone who's really comfortable at a 10-over entry point.
09:27And I think that's a massive kudos to him, the way he's adapted his game.
09:32I don't think he's been short on form.
09:34You know, I mentioned before, spending four weeks on the sideline coming into the tournament
09:39and sort of slowly building up is kind of what you expect.
09:43And I thought that was, you know, Tilak back to his old Tilak and played the situation beautifully.
09:48So it's comforting to know that we have a little bit more power down the middle.
09:51And like I always say, the link between getting out of the blocks quickly and setting up for the back
09:56end is the key to India's success.
09:58And it's nice to know that Tilak can perform both roles.
10:03Ryan, playing against West Indies in Test or one day is a different thing and playing against them in T20
10:09cricket is a different ball game.
10:10It comes so naturally to them.
10:13Do you think that is going to be the biggest challenge?
10:17I don't think that bothers us at all, what comes naturally to them.
10:20I think the challenge is that they are a very good T20 side.
10:24They possess power as good as any of the best teams in the world.
10:29And I guess, you know, what you know about the West Indies when they come to a T20 competition, they
10:33give absolutely everything.
10:34This is, you know, their moment, their big moment in their calendar.
10:38Like I said, it's a challenge we're relishing.
10:41We're going to fight fire with fire tomorrow and I'm expecting a really good game out there.
10:49Ryan, right here, Ryan.
10:51Yeah, the batting pieces fell together very nicely.
10:53In fact, they had a perfect game in Chennai last match and prior to the tournament, they were, they didn't
10:58really fire as a unit, as a unit.
11:01But in Chennai, they really fired as a unit.
11:02So heading into a crunch game like West Indies and beyond that, also, obviously, it's all knockout games.
11:08So happy is the management and the batters getting the juices flowing.
11:13Yeah, it's been a long time coming.
11:16You know, the bilateral series, you sort of rolled the batters out there and they got the job done every
11:20time.
11:21And I've alluded to it before, but the change in surfaces maybe took us a little while to adapt to
11:26how we're going to play on different surfaces.
11:30But certainly in terms of where we are as a batting unit, you know, this is the time you really
11:35want to fire.
11:36So what happens in the early phase of the competition, in competition mode, you just want to make sure that
11:41when you do get to the back end, to the crunch matches, that everyone's feeling good.
11:45Everyone's really confident in their plans and how they're going to execute those plans.
11:50And I feel like we're moving in the right way in terms of that.
11:53So good signs for the batters in the last game, but blank slates again tomorrow.
11:57And it's another chance to put our best foot out there and our best performance out there.
12:03I'm Zafar from Senna 24 into 7.
12:06Ryan, any input from Surya Kumar Yadav?
12:10Since he is in the same team of Mumbai Indians with Rutherford, to contain Rutherford.
12:17And this is the ground of Varun Chakravarti.
12:20So how would you utilize Varun in different phases?
12:24Starting one over, then again bringing him from other side.
12:29Any plan to utilize Varun here because this is his ground?
12:34I think most of the guys in all the teams, you know, play with each other a lot and play
12:39against each other a lot.
12:40So in terms of intel, we do lean on guys from the same team.
12:45If it's Mumbai Indians or whatever the RPL teams are.
12:49Guys are sharing ideas about strengths and weaknesses and what the players like.
12:53And I guess every time you go around India, it's going to be someone's home ground.
12:57And Varun's obviously had a lot of success here.
13:01I think it's pretty standard how we've utilized Varun so far.
13:05You know, generally speaking, he balls one in the power play.
13:07He's our attacking option as well.
13:09But we're also aware that, you know, teams are now starting to play him a little bit differently.
13:13So we have some other strategies to deploy him in different facets of the game.
13:18But generally speaking, he's someone we turn to for wickets and he's been really good at that.
13:23And expect more of the same tomorrow.
13:27Coach, India has very good batting line-up considering that there is no good partnership.
13:35What you saw earlier in New Zealand series.
13:39What is the lacking?
13:40What is the reason?
13:42Not so good partnership in middle-over.
13:45In the New Zealand series.
13:48India team.
13:55There have been some good partnerships.
13:58I don't think that's entirely accurate.
14:00And I guess, you know, what I said in the second or third question.
14:05We quite like a scorecard like we saw the other night where the partnerships are 60, 30, 40.
14:12Like I said, no one went big.
14:14Two guys got 50 and we still managed to get 250.
14:17And, you know, a lot of our talk has been not about personal milestones.
14:23So as long as collectively we're getting up to a score, you know, where we can keep going hard,
14:29we actually feel those sort of mid-range partnerships are pretty good.
14:34Ideally, you want someone to go on and get an 80 and a 90.
14:37But as long as a group, as long as as a group we're striking at close to that 200 mark,
14:42depending on the surface, we're not overly fussed by numbers in isolation.
14:48We care about the big number at the end.
14:50To be continued.
14:50To be continued.
14:50To be continued.
14:50To be continued.
14:50To be continued.
