00:08anybody's talked to him since the letter came out and he was naturally asked about his commitment
00:13level to you know staying with the rangers right now and working through what is going to be a
00:18retool rebuild whatever you want to call it and his answer wasn't exactly the most inspirational
00:24for for confidence and and his mindset of where he's at but i'll read you the the quote um if

00:32you guys didn't hear it um he said i mean i'm just trying to focus on this year right now
00:38and play
00:38each game that's really all i can do right now could control is i was just trying to work to
00:45get
00:45back and help the team finish strong so i think that's where my head's at i think that's a
00:49conversation when we're done playing games so i mean i think i would like to preface it
00:57obviously i wasn't there when he said it i watched the video and i think that i i'm going to

01:05about it today too and i kind of want to make people pay attention to the circumstances of him
01:12saying these this i guess i mean you made this point before we yeah it was really good i hadn't
01:17thought of it yeah he yeah he look this was his first game back after a really long time he's
01:25been
01:25out for longer than he's ever been in his career this has been the worst string of injuries for him
01:32um first game back he just had a front row seat to watching his teammates get honored for a gold
01:40medal that he wasn't a part of that he thought he might have been a part of they just lost
01:46in overtime
01:47i can only imagine what the emotions and how tense he was in that moment all all that funneling into
01:58one moment coming out out of that game so i think that his response you know you're in a vulnerable
02:05position at that point and i do think that his response was indicative of of his inner thoughts
02:12for sure and i don't think that it's not nothing and not something to you know focus on because i

02:18think that it was interesting that he said that because the alternative would be to definitively
02:24say i want to be here and i want to be a part of this going forward and he very
02:28clearly did not say
02:29that um and neither did you gorgeous jerkin apparently um but i think that you got to take
02:38the whole situation as it was and take all that into consideration i think that conversations will
02:44need to be had at the end of the season for sure because one of the number one things on
02:50chris jury's
02:51list to do i think is is making this a place that players want to play again uh you're you're

02:56going to have new york you know that will always be an appeal and that will never you know that

03:02always bring players in i think but now you got to look at the guys who are in the room
03:08who you want
03:09to stay here and build around but you also want them to want to be here too um and right
03:15now it's
03:16kind of hard to say that like you know their circumstances and and the uh trajectory that
03:23they're on right now it's not looking that great so i think there's gonna have to be conversations to
03:29be had but i'm curious what you thought when you heard that those comments uh i thought i was
03:35interesting he was to an extent honest like it's very easy like no i love it here and you're just
03:42lost i want to be here and then nothing else he thought about it he gave you an answer that

03:48uh maybe he has been thinking about for a little while because although he hasn't been on the ice
03:52playing you know that's he's been around um it's
04:00it's interesting and understandable not not not quite a ringing endorsement right no and you know
04:07i think if you're a player in an organization there's things that you might want done differently
04:12no matter what the situation is it could be the best situation and there's 23 guys on a roster
04:20there's probably 23 different things guys can nitpick winning cures all yeah so they put a team
04:29together that wins games guys are going to want to come to new york and play i don't know why

04:33of the team lives outside of the city but maybe the city's different than when i played in it and
04:38there's they're all married most of them are married that's why we we had you know whatever
04:46different different different times i guess i mean it's just so great living and playing in new york
04:51city but whatever it's fine i think uh winning cures all that's it i mean you want to win and
04:59it's frustrating going to the conference finals a couple times and getting that close and then seeing
05:07guys getting traded off and then looking at the runway of how far is this runway where we're kind of
05:11back
05:12in the mix and that's what the conversations are but i mean that's a lot of term and money
05:19if you're talking gavrikov igor and fox trying to move out um i think it they play they have
05:29conversations throughout the rest of the season and um eventually because they need him and he's a huge
05:35part yeah he played well up until his injury so hopefully he finishes strong and they could sort
05:42of just reset yeah i mean and he want he you know you also think about how you know he
05:51moved heaven
05:51and earth to be here you know he did uh everything in his power to be yeah exactly so you
05:58know that's
06:00what i'm saying right for us to or for the rangers to have gone from you know being a place
06:10that
06:10a player did all that to get there to then hearing him say pretty non-committal comments about his future
06:20you know that's that's a bigger conversation and i think that is on the tippy top of chris
06:27jury's list of things to address because you know obviously you're going to be retooling but
06:32you think about the guys who are probably going to be staying around are the guys that they
06:38probably want to remain like jt miller he's you know captain like he's pretty locked in
06:45optics wise they literally just can't they just can't get rid of another captain um and then you look
06:53at igor and gavrikov and fox um and it gets down to a point of you know you want them
07:02to be committed
07:03to it too and you want them to want to be here too and right now there's not there's not
07:07a lot
07:07there's not a lot that would me if i if i were a player there's not a lot that would
07:11make me want to
07:12stay but yeah you gotta see it through sometimes it's not always perfect yeah for sure um but i think
07:19that's that's part of the gm's job 100 so i think that is gonna have to be a topic of
07:26conversation
07:26um at the end of this season so yeah that was a very interesting thing to come out of last
07:32night
07:32the most interesting thing for sure and it's gonna be those types of topics that dominate the
07:38rangers storylines going forward because who the hell cares that they lost three two to the flyers
07:42in the same in the same fashion that they've lost so many other games
