00:00:02so here's an age-old question what does the bible say about the consumption of alcohol
00:00:07does the bible prohibit the consumption of alcohol does the bible call alcohol a sin
00:00:13does the bible command you to consume alcohol we're going to be looking at the scriptures
00:00:19we're going to be looking at some in-depth entries on the lexicons and the dictionaries
00:00:24all of that to come to the overall subject of what scripture tells us about the consumption
00:00:32of alcohol so make sure to stay tuned for this study on alcohol and the bible
00:00:56so this teaching is going to be all about alcohol the subject of alcohol and what scripture has to
00:01:01say about it whether or not it is a sin whether it's not a sin whether it's commanded whether it's
00:01:06prohibited all that kind of good stuff we're going to get into that but before we get into that i
00:01:12do
00:01:12want to let everyone know that we have cut this down a whole lot for the sake of trying to
00:01:17get

00:02:17convenient link and it'll take you directly to the article post on our website so now let's go ahead
00:02:22and introduce the topic and what we're going to be kind of getting into some things to think about
00:02:27stuff like that so here is the introduction to alcohol and the bible so a few questions i want you
00:02:34to try and keep in mind as we go through this particular study number one is the consumption of
00:02:40alcohol a sin and of course only the bible can define what sin is so as we go through the
00:02:45scriptures
00:02:45and we start looking at this from a well-rounded holistic kind of approach keep in your mind is
00:02:53scripture forbidding the consumption of alcohol and is the consumption of alcohol a sin number two
00:03:00is the consumption of alcohol commanded and conversely is prohibited so it's kind of like
00:03:06one and two going two different sides of a coin there so is the consumption of alcohol a sin
00:03:11and is the consumption of alcohol commanded keep those two questions in mind and also the general
00:03:18question what is the holistic tension of scripture when it comes to this subject of alcohol now as we
00:03:26go through this particular study and also other kinds of study as you go into the future there are
00:03:32different kinds of ways to approach things from scripture there are five different i'm sorry four
00:03:39different types of direction that we come up with that scripture gives us regarding any particular
00:03:45subject number one there is the positive instructions or positive directions or positive commands these are
00:03:52things like thou shalt do blank fill in the blank for an example such as one of the two commandments
00:03:59it says remember the sabbath day to set it apart thou shalt keep the sabbath day right that is a
00:04:06positive
00:04:06command the flip side of that is a negative command and that is pretty much just what you would think
00:04:12it would be something like thou shalt not do blank fill in the blank an example would be thou shalt
00:04:19not
00:04:20commit adultery or thou shalt not kill those are negative commands that is the exact opposite of a positive
00:04:28command something that is commanded or commanded not to do a negative command then the third type is something
00:04:35is a we refer to this is what we just came up with okay we didn't get this from any
00:04:40john mcarthur
00:04:42billy graham or tim haggard like that was just the four we came up with but the third one we
00:04:48titled as a
00:04:49guiding direction or a guiding instruction things like that these are things and subjects that are neither
00:04:57commanded nor prohibited but scripture does provide a mention of these subjects sometimes as in a good
00:05:06way sometimes in a negative way and it also mentions regulation or how to regulate that particular
00:05:13subject at times even though it doesn't command it or prohibit it it's kind of like the gray area
00:05:18when it comes to subjects you know it's in scripture and scripture mentions it sometimes in a positive
00:05:24light sometimes in a negative light but it's not commanded and it's not prohibited these are things
00:05:30like marriage marriage is not commanded that's you may have a different opinion but from what we can
00:05:36see marriage is not commanded take for instance yeshua he was never married and he was sinless he was
00:05:43perfect maybe it's something we should have looked up to you guys i don't know uh i'm joking i'm joking
00:05:50uh yeah marriage is not commanded as far as we can tell you can be celibate and still be absolutely
00:05:56okay
00:05:57you can be married and be absolutely a-okay as we covered in our plural marriage or polygyny series
00:06:03about a year ago or so plural marriage is one of those guiding subjects in scripture it's not
00:06:12commanded that a man had more than one wife and it's not prohibited for a man to have more than
00:06:17one
00:06:17wife but scripture obviously mentions the practice of plural marriage and there's actually guidelines
00:06:24and regulations regarding the practice of plural marriage there's other things as well we'll get into
00:06:30some more examples here later on in the teaching but that's just to get you started so you know what
00:06:36this
00:06:37concept is and finally there is the subjects that scripture says pretty much nothing about one thing
00:06:46that we example that we decided to come up with is we went back in 2025 last fall and we
00:06:53did the
00:06:55christmas in detail series one of the episodes was about birthdays and if you watch that you what we were
00:07:02able to come up with or conclude was that scripture does mention birthdays two times
00:07:08definitely that we know of and one time more than likely it was a mention of a birthday celebration
00:07:14but anyways scripture mentions it but scripture never commands you to celebrate your birthday
00:07:21conversely scripture never prohibits the celebration of a birthday as far as we can tell
00:07:28and there is zero regulation on how to celebrate a birthday so there you go that is what that's kind
00:07:39of thing that scripture is silent about as far as the instructions or the directions or the guiding
00:07:44of that so you got positive commands instructions you've got negative commands or instructions you've got
00:07:49guiding commands or instructions or subjects and then you got subjects that scripture is just kind of
00:07:55silent on and you've got to use your best judgment on how to go about that now let's go over
00:08:03some
00:08:04terminology so that you will better understand what we're talking about when we get in to the actual
00:08:11scriptures themselves now this it seems kind of nerdy and yes it is kind of nerdy but you know i'm
00:08:17a nerd
00:08:17and it's going to be very helpful if not just for just one particular reason and that's because out
00:08:24there in the wide world of churchianity and history and etc etc there is this two wine theory and for
00:08:35those of you don't know two wine theory goes that if the word wine as it's translated in english
00:08:42is spoken of in a positive light in scripture then the people who hold to this theory say well
00:08:48that's just grape juice that's not actual alcoholic wine conversely if it's talking if the whatever's
00:08:56can um translated as wine is spoken of in a negative light in scripture these people who hold to this
00:09:03two wine theory say that that is the actual alcoholic wine so therefore scripture tells you do not drink
00:09:10alcohol because every time the alcoholic wine is mentioned it's always in a negative light and every time the
00:09:17good wine aka what they refer to as great juice is mentioned it's always in a positive light
00:09:25that's okay first of all that is false on the get-go there are some research papers that we had
00:09:32put
00:09:33together by ai that is on the article post you can go check those out there is gosh all together
00:09:41five
00:09:41different uh reports and almost 100 pages so there's a lot of good information there
00:09:47especially on some of the history which we're not going to get into in this particular teaching
00:09:51but there in those research reports it talks about this whole two wine theory being a really recent
00:09:57development no one for gosh about 1800 years or so ever thought that there was grape juice in
00:10:05the scriptures it was always alcoholic wine because everyone understood that's just
00:10:09the way things were but then pasteurization came along and things like that and we were
00:10:15actually able to have grape juice and keep it without it turning into wine or vinegar then
00:10:22it was only after that that people came up with this whole two wine thing and there's reasons behind
00:10:27it why they wanted to do it and all this other stuff but just know that it's false and the
00:10:31reason
00:10:31we're going over this terminology is so that you know and understand what scripture is talking about
00:10:36when we get into the actual scriptures so the first term we're going to go over is the hebrew word
00:10:42yayin and that is strong's h3196 that's h3196 yayin yayin and again all this you can find the
00:10:55extended entries in our notes if you'd like even more information to go along with this but according
00:11:00to the outline of biblical usage from blue letter bible.org yayin means wine from strong's entry on
00:11:07yayin it has defined as meaning to ever vest and this is important because i was over in iraq i
00:11:15served
00:11:15in the marine corps during operation iraqi freedom i know how hot it gets over there and before modern
00:11:21technology like refrigeration before modern technology like even canning even and pasteurization and things
00:11:30like that fruit juice that's left out is going to start fermenting in very short time so what
00:11:40happens when it starts if you've ever made wine before you you know this but for those of you
00:11:44haven't i used to make my own wine and when wine is fermenting and it's working and the yeast is
00:11:51going
00:11:52and all that stuff it bubbles is what's called effervesce and if you leave it out on the counter you'll
00:11:58see
00:11:58bubbles before you know a day or two days is going by and that's what effervesce means and if you
00:12:05just
00:12:05leave it out and without modern technology refrigeration fruit juice is going to do that
00:12:09on its own because there's natural yeast in the air that'll make it turn into wine just naturally
00:12:16so that's what strong's entry here is getting all about when it comes to this word yayin it comes from
00:12:22a root that means to effervesce or bubble things like that but it defines yayin as wine meaning as
00:12:30fermented the by implication intoxication yeah it's not great juice it's alcohol brown driver bricks
00:12:38for the entry on yayin has it defined as wine a common drink for refreshment jacinus's hebrew lexicon
00:12:46wine wine so called from bubbling up and fermenting the effect of wine intoxication jastrell's dictionary
00:12:53of the tar gums the entry has for yayin it says wine yayin mix means mixed with water shahar means
00:12:59unmixed we'll get into that word shahar in just a minute and then client's dictionary has it defined
00:13:04as wine just plain wine the hebrew aramaic lexicon of the old testament as defined as foaming wine
00:13:11something fermented from wine like vinegar wine as in drunken drunkenness makes mary forbidden to
00:13:18priest we'll get into that as well now something also to take note of is that back during this time
00:13:24period that we're going to be talking about which is from creation all the way up through the book of
00:13:30revelation the entire time period that encompasses what we speak of in scripture oh yeah during this
00:13:36whole time they the common practice for them was to take the wine that was produced whether they
00:13:41would produce it or they go out and buy it they would take this wine and mix it with water
00:13:45and i
00:13:46think the ratio was somewhere about four to one so it wasn't the straight wine like we're kind of
00:13:52think about doing nowadays but they they did that too but you know it wasn't if you didn't have a
00:13:58lot
00:13:58of money you couldn't afford a whole lot of wine so you had to kind of mix it and what
00:14:02happened with
00:14:02that is it would actually kill some of the bacteria and the squigglies that was in the water because of
00:14:09the alcohol content that's what would kill the bacteria so it was healthy for them to do this
00:14:14and it was a way to preserve the grape juice without just throwing it out and wasting it
00:14:20our second term we're going to be looking at is the hebrew word tirosh tirosh and this is strong's 8492
00:14:28tirosh and this word is very similar to that last word we looked at yayin but tirosh means new wine
00:14:38or
00:14:38fresh wine or just started or something like that the outline of biblical usage has it defined as
00:14:45wine fresh or new wine must freshly pressed wine strong's definition must or fresh grape juice as
00:14:53just squeezed out by implication rarely fermented wine new or sweet wine brown driver briggs must fresh or
00:15:01new wine do you see this is hebrew lexicon must new wine because it is intoxicated takes possession of
00:15:07the brain used of the juice of grapes the hebrew aramaic lexicon of the old testament or tirosh means
00:15:14to tread down press wine it also could mean unfermented wine or must and also means new wine fresh wine
00:15:24unfermented grape juice new wine must etc etc whereas yayin is the regular old standard wine that you're
00:15:33probably thinking of and used to tirosh is the kind of wine that was just started it was just pressed
00:15:40out maybe it's got no alcohol content to it but more than likely it's got a low alcohol content because
00:15:48it's just started working that yeast has just started on it so it's still kind of uh sweet and
00:15:56sugary it's not got a dryness to it at this point because it's not fully worked
00:16:01but that's what tirosh is and tirosh the vast majority of time it's used it is used in the context
00:16:08of having an alcohol content it does not mean grape juice like we mean today we will prove that from
00:16:15scripture here in just a little bit so remember that word tirosh as well as our first word that
00:16:20we learned yayin going on we're going to look at the hebrew word shakar shakar and this is strong's
00:16:27h7 941 and the outline of biblical usage has it defined as strong drink intoxicating drink fermented
00:16:35or intoxicating liquor now i take issue with that and we'll get into that in just a moment let's go
00:16:41ahead and finish this word real quick strong's definition or entry for shakar means an intoxicant
00:16:48intensely alcoholic liquor strong drink drunkard strong wine brown driver briggs entry intoxicating
00:16:55drink strong drink forbidden to priest on duty allowable and sacrificial meal committed for weak
00:17:00and weary just seen as this hebrew lexicon the entry for shakar meaning strong drink intoxicating liquor
00:17:07whether wine or intoxicating drink like wine made from barley or distilled from honey or dates
00:17:13wine made from dry grapes or dates it is often distinguished from wine wine mingled with spices
00:17:19appears to be intended and finally the jasraels dictionary of the targums entry for shakar meaning
00:17:28intoxicating drink yain is unmixed wine and shakar is mixed wine that's their entry they've got there
00:17:33especially beer of dates or barley klein dictionary has it defined as intoxicating drink strong drink
00:17:39beer and hebrew aramaic lexicon of the new testament has it defined as intoxicating drink beer fermented
00:17:48alcoholic beverage intoxicating drink etc etc it also has gone down or down to the end as defined as
00:17:54intoxicating drink beer which would have been made primarily from barley beer made from wheat so just a
00:18:02comment on this word shakar i'm not too fond of some of the lexicon entries here because i think they
00:18:11get it incorrect let's go back and look at where the outline of biblical usage and also uh strong's
00:18:18things like that it has it defined as liquor now when we think of liquor nowadays we think about
00:18:25a distilled spirit something like vodka or rum or moonshine or you know what have you however
00:18:35the whole steam distillation process was still thousands of years away from the time period we're
00:18:44talking about abraham and moses and david and solomon and the apostle paul and the apostle john etc etc
00:18:51knew nothing about distilled spirits distilled alcohol because that process and that sort of
00:18:59technology just did not exist at that time what shakar actually means what i found out from the research
00:19:08is shakar is a word that refers to something made from like barley or oats or stuff like that you
00:19:15find in
00:19:15some of these more accurate or i think more accurate lexicons and it was kind of interesting because
00:19:22around the area of israel they didn't actually make well it was more suited to growing grape vines
00:19:31than it was like hops and things like that now down in egypt and up in mesopotamia around babylon
00:19:38stuff like that they could grow or they could more easily grow hops and barley and things like that up
00:19:45there than they could down in israel so outside of israel you could find things like beer and stuff like
00:19:52that but usually in israel you would have more commonly things like wine because grapes and grape vines
00:19:59would grow a whole lot better than barley or hops in israel shakar the best way i found to think
00:20:09of this
00:20:09as shakar meaning beer things like that whereas yayin and tirosh meaning wine however all three words
00:20:19still meaning something that has an alcoholic content so back then they had wine they had beer things that were
00:20:29fermented but they did not have things that were distilled they did not have rum or vodka or moonshine
00:20:34or tequila or what have you so just to recap these hebrew words real quick yayin means wine like we
00:20:42would normally think of today tirosh means a new wine just a grape juice that's just started working maybe
00:20:49a low alcohol content but still an alcohol content and also the third word shakar which means something
00:20:56made from barley or oats things like beer now moving on into our greek terminology and it's going to be
00:21:02fairly similar but we got a few new words as well our first word we're going to be looking at
00:21:08is
00:21:08strong's g3631 that's strong's g3631 and that's the greek word oinos oinos
00:21:19and the outline of biblical usage from blue letter bible.org has it defined as wine the
00:21:25metaphorical fiery wine of god's wrath strong's entry has defined as wine literally or figuratively
00:21:33excuse me thayer's greek lexicon has defined as must or new wine etc etc or just plain old wine
00:21:42greek english lexicon of the new testament has defined as a fermented beverage from the juice of
00:21:48grapes wine and also it's got a good entry right here in the greek english lexicon i love it that's
00:21:54why i left it in here for your perusal but it says here and from the greek english lexicon of
00:21:59the new
00:21:59testament for oinos it has here though some persons have argued that whenever mention is made of jesus
00:22:04either making or drinking wine one must assume that this was only unfermented grape juice there is no
00:22:10real basis for such a conclusion thank you greek english lexicon of the new testament and finally
00:22:18from the b dag for oinos as defined as a beverage made from fermented juice of the grape or meaning
00:22:27wine our second word we're going to look at in the greek is strong's g1098 as strong's g1098 and that
00:22:37is
00:22:37the greek word glucose glucose as long as i'm pronouncing that right but that looks right the
00:22:43outline of biblical usage from blue letter bible.org as defined as the sweet juice pressed the grape
00:22:51sweet wine this is what we looked at in the hebrew word to rosh earlier but strong's has this greek
00:22:58word
00:22:58glucose defined as sweet wine must or fresh juice used of the more saccharine and therefore highly
00:23:04inebriating fermented wine new wine thayer's greek lexicon has it defined as must the sweet juice
00:23:11pressed from the grape sweet wine the greek english lexicon of the new testament has glucose defined as
00:23:17a new sweet wine in process of fermentation fermentation sweet wine and finally from the b dag for glucose has
00:23:25the entry defined as sweet new wine commonly referred to as must so glucose is like the
00:23:33tea roche it's the new wine the grape juice that's just started in the process of working and bubbling and
00:23:43on this way to being fully fermented and fully alcoholic so it might have a low alcoholic content
00:23:50but like we said with tea roche it's still got an alcoholic content to it and once again we're going
00:23:55to be
00:23:55proven all this from scripture as jerry mcguire said show me the money and i'm going to show you
00:24:02the money coming up here in just a moment and finally our third word and this is going to be
00:24:06very important to understand as we get into some of the scriptures here but this is the word uh strong's
00:24:14g3183 that's strong's g3183 and that's the greek word methusos methusos and the outline of
00:24:22biblical usage from blue letter bible.org has it defined as drunken or intoxicated strong's has
00:24:29it defined as a sought or a drunkard remember that name or that word drunkard sayer's greek
00:24:36lexicon has methusos defined as drunken or intoxicated the greek english lexicon of the new
00:24:42testament has it defined as a person who habitually drinks too much and thus becomes a drunkard and
00:24:50finally from the b dag as the word methusos defined as a word that is used of both sexes though
00:24:57the
00:24:57older writers used it only of women and it has defined as a drunkard with those addicted to other
00:25:04vices so in a nutshell oinos is the wine like we talked about with yayin it's the standard everyday
00:25:13old wine that we are used to nowadays now back then again they would probably mix it with water but
00:25:19it's the wine that we think of nowadays the second word that we looked at the glucose is like the
00:25:26tearoche that's the fresh wine or the new wine which might have a low alcohol content but it's
00:25:31still got an alcohol content all the same this last word we looked at methusos is a word that's
00:25:37meaning someone who is habitually drunk not someone who just got drunk tonight and like oh my gosh i
00:25:45shouldn't have done that i'm so sorry that's not what it's talking about when it talks about a drunkard
00:25:50a drunkard is someone who repeatedly and regularly and habitually gets drunk that's what methusos and
00:25:58drunkard means when we go through the scriptures now let's go ahead and do our due diligence and get
00:26:06into these scriptures themselves and like i said we're going to show you the money here in just a moment
00:26:11so stay tuned first let's go over some positive scriptures or something that's relatively positive
00:26:20about alcohol from scripture didn't think it existed well here we go and let's look at it
00:26:27first example we're going to look at is from numbers chapter 15 verse 7 and as a drink offering you
00:26:34bring one third of a hen wine and that's the word yayin as a sweet fragrance to yahweh now here
00:26:43this
00:26:44if you don't know if you don't get the context this is in regards to a part of a the
00:26:50sacrificial offering
00:26:51part of a sacrificial offering let me put that way well there's several there and several contain
00:26:57yayin actual alcohol and here is saying that you are to provide this alcoholic wine
00:27:04as a sweet fragrance to who not to the priest not to yourself not to the priest or the pope
00:27:10or anything
00:27:10like that no we'll provide this alcoholic beverage as part of the sacrifice as a sweet fragrance to
00:27:19yahweh so even yahweh wants this alcoholic beverage as part of the sacrifices that were to be done to and
00:27:28for him now we go down and look at deuteronomy chapter 14 verses 24 through 26 but when the way
00:27:35is too long for you that's so that you are not able to bring the tithe or when the place
00:27:40where yahweh
00:27:41your elohim chooses to put his name is too far from you when yahweh your elohim is blessing you
00:27:46then you shall give it in silver and shall take the silver in your hand and go to the place
00:27:52which
00:27:52yahweh your elohim chooses and you shall use the silver for whatever your being desires for cattle or
00:27:59sheep for wine yayin or strong drink shakar for whatever your being desires and you shall eat
00:28:07there before yahweh your elohim and you shall rejoice you and your household so here it's talking
00:28:14about taking the tithe to the temple because what was one of the purposes what's one of the biggest
00:28:19purposes of the tithe especially back then that was to support the temple work and the priests and all
00:28:29did not get land a portion to them their duty was for yahweh to serve at the tabernacle serve at
00:28:35the
00:28:35temple so they didn't have the land to grow crops they didn't have the land to raise livestock they
00:28:42didn't have land to grow vineyards and grapes and make all this other stuff like wine the stuff they
00:28:49survived on and stuff they got was what people brought to them and a lot of it was in the
00:28:54form of a tithe
00:28:55and if you remember it says to tithe the first of your land it's first your crops there are certain
00:29:02animals the firstborn the males and stuff like that that were to be given as a tithe and here it
00:29:08says
00:29:09that if you're not able to bring this tithe like if you're a long ways away or if you're infirmed
00:29:13and
00:29:14you can't carry your sheep or your grain the many bags of grain if you had a big year if
00:29:20you couldn't do
00:29:20that then what's it tell you to do it says convert all that into money and take that money with
00:29:28you
00:29:29to the place where yahweh chooses to put his name and what is it that you are told to do
00:29:34when you get
00:29:34there it says you shall use the silver for whatever your being desires for cattle or sheep
00:29:41for wine or strong drink it's your car it says you can use it for wine alcohol or beer alcohol
00:29:51for whatever your being desires and you shall eat it there meaning where yahweh chooses to put his name
00:29:58you shall eat it there before yahweh your elohim and you shall rejoice you shall be happy and thankful
00:30:03and grateful to yahweh for all that he has blessed you with so a part of this rejoicing part of
00:30:12this
00:30:12tie the part of being around where yahweh chooses place his name involves the use of alcohol wine and beer
00:30:25again look for yourself deuteronomy chapter 14 verses 24 to 26 we just read that you want to look at
00:30:32your
00:30:32own translation to make sure it's not mistranslated in the one we're providing that's fine go for it
00:30:37look at it but i i guarantee you if any accurate translation is gonna have the exact same thing
00:30:43that we've got here but moving on we look at proverbs chapter 31 verses 6 through 7 give strong
00:30:51drink to him who is perishing and wine to those embittered and being let him drink and forget his
00:30:57poverty and remember his trouble no more so if people's having a rough time if people are embittered
00:31:04or if they are perishing or if they're down and infirmed what's the bible tell you to do it says
00:31:12to
00:31:12give him strong drink or a beer in this context or wine and what's it say it'll do it will
00:31:21make him
00:31:21forget his poverty and remember his trouble no more going on looking at ecclesiastes 9 verse 7
00:31:30go eat your bread with joy and drink your wine with a glad heart for elohim has already approved your
00:31:38works once again what's it say to do it says to drink your wine with a glad heart be happy
00:31:47about it
00:31:48be glad you've got it be glad you are blessed with that psalms 104 verses 13 through 15 watering the
00:31:56hills from his upper rooms the earth is satisfied with the fruit of your works causing the grass to
00:32:03grow for the cattle and plants for the service of mankind to bring forth food from the earth and
00:32:10wine wine that makes the makes glad the heart of man oil to make the face shine and bread which
00:32:17sustains
00:32:18man's heart so once again this is something that comes forth because of and as a blessing from
00:32:26who yahweh the one who had formed the mountains who formed all the earth and universe as we know it
00:32:33from all his works who causes the grass to grow for the cattle the plants for the service of mankind
00:32:38who brings forth food from the earth and brings forth wine that does what it makes glad the heart of
00:32:46man then we go on and look at luke chapter 10 verses 33 through 34 but a certain shomeroni or
00:32:56samaritan
00:32:56journey and came upon him and when he saw him he had compassion on him and he went to him
00:33:01and bandaged
00:33:02his wounds pouring on oil and wine and having placed on him and having placed him on his own beast
00:33:11he brought him to an inn and looked after him now this is in the parable that yeshua was telling
00:33:16about
00:33:16the good samaritan and what happens when the good samaritan comes upon this man who's been beaten and
00:33:23robbed he treats his wounds that he has and how does he do it he treats his wounds with oil
00:33:30and wine so
00:33:31this is not consumption of wine granted but it is a positive thing about wine it's good for
00:33:39or at least back then good for treating wounds open wounds and like i said it killed the squigglies in
00:33:46the water so why wouldn't it also kill the squigglies and bacteria on a wound makes sense right
00:33:54distilled spirits would probably be more effective but wine would be a good use as well
00:34:00maybe look into that some more as a one of the survival techniques you put in your brain for
00:34:07later use i don't know then going on looking at first timothy chapter 5 verse 23 and here paul is
00:34:13writing to timothy and paul is telling timothy this in first timothy 5 23 he says no longer drink only
00:34:21water but also use a little wine for your stomach's sake and your frequent ailments so again to soothe the
00:34:31upset stomach of timothy paul recommends consuming alcohol not grape juice alcohol wine all right so
00:34:42that's just a few verses as far as a amiable position on alcohol from scripture or a positive
00:34:49position about alcohol from scripture so now let's go ahead and look at the flip side of that and look
00:34:55let's look at some more of the negative things about alcohol as it comes from scripture because if we're
00:35:01going to be honest on the subject we've got to look at all sides not just the positive but also
00:35:07some of the
00:35:08negative coming from genesis chapter 19 verses 32 through 36 come let us make our father drink wine
00:35:19and lie with him so that we preserve the seed of our father so they made their father drink wine
00:35:25that
00:35:25night and he and the firstborn went in and lay with her father and he was not aware of it
00:35:30when she lay
00:35:30down or when she arose and it came to be on the next day that the firstborn said to the
00:35:34younger
00:35:35see i lay with my father last night let us make him drink wine yain tonight as well and you
00:35:41go in
00:35:42and lie with him so that we keep the seed of our father so they made their father drink wine
00:35:47yain
00:35:48that night as well and the younger arose and lay with him and he was not aware of it when
00:35:53she lay down
00:35:54or when she arose thus both the daughters of lot became pregnant by their father now this is
00:36:02the story of lot and his daughters after they escaped from sodom and then the destruction of
00:36:09sodom gomorrah and that whole story so they're in this cave and they it's kind of seeming like they
00:36:14think they're the last ones on earth and they want to try and repopulate it and there's no man except
00:36:18their father so these two girls the sisters they get pregnant by their father and the way they do that
00:36:25is they get him drunk now as it says here apparently he drank so much wine that he did not
00:36:35even know
00:36:37when they were in the process let's put it that way and that would have to be really really drunk
00:36:47it
00:36:48really would is not just a buzz i mean some people think that was just a buzz is you know
00:36:55prohibited but no drunkenness is prohibited according to scripture i would in my own personal
00:37:02opinion to take this for what it's worth in my own personal opinion i wouldn't say that you know a
00:37:05buzz
00:37:05would be prohibited or bad but drunkenness is clear that is bad according to scripture and here is a good
00:37:14example where incest took place between lot and his daughters and it was all facilitated by drunkenness
00:37:23so that's a good uh warning against drunkenness there from scripture nope and looking at second
00:37:32samuel chapter 11 verses 12 through 13 and daweed said to uriah remain here today also and tomorrow i'll
00:37:38let you go so uriah remained in jerusalem that day and the next and daweed called him and he ate
00:37:45and
00:37:45drank before him and made him drunk and at evening he went out to lie on his bed with the
00:37:50servants of
00:37:51his master but he did not go down to his house so here king david is actually trying to get
00:37:58someone
00:37:58drunk that's uriah and the reason he's trying to do this is because he's already slept with uriah he's
00:38:04already committed adultery and got her pregnant and he's wanting to make uriah not know what he's doing
00:38:11and make uriah think that he actually got his wife pregnant instead of david but it didn't work so again
00:38:18this is a negative instance of alcohol in scripture where king david himself is making someone drunk and
00:38:27using alcohol in a negative manner we go on and look at isaiah chapter 5 verse 11 woe to those
00:38:34who
00:38:34rise early in the morning pursuing strong drink shakar who stay up late at night wine inflames them
00:38:42so in that first instance where it says strong drink that's the hebrew word shakar and you can
00:38:48generally think of that as beer and that second word wine that is yayin that's the standard old alcohol
00:38:55that we think of nowadays when we think about wine and going on to look at oh this is one
00:39:02more thing
00:39:02here is that notice what it says here about strong drink it says woe to those pursuing strong drink
00:39:08who stay up late at night wine inflames them would grape juice inflame someone highly doubtful you don't
00:39:16see a bunch of kindergartners running around you know blitzed on grape juice being inflamed no
00:39:24this is not talking about grape juice it's talking about alcohol then looking at isaiah chapter 5
00:39:30verses 21 to 23 woe to those who are wise in their own eyes and clever in their own sight
00:39:37woe to the
00:39:38mighty to drink wine yayin and brave men to mix strong drink shakar who declare right the wrong for a
00:39:47bribe and the righteous of the unrighteous i'm sorry and the righteousness of the righteous they
00:39:53turn aside from him so again a negative mention of strong drink or wine or just alcohol in general
00:40:02hosea chapter 4 verse 11 pouring and wine yayin and new wine tirosh enslave the heart so here's a good
00:40:12example of both yayin and tirosh being used in a negative context and it's talking about enslaving
00:40:19the heart does grape juice enslave the heart no but alcohol does can be addictive to certain people
00:40:27and it would enslave the heart and this tells us right here that both yayin and tirosh both wine and
00:40:34new wine as it's mentioned in scripture is alcoholic it's not the grape juice that some people try to make
00:40:41it out to be going on looking at proverbs chapter 20 verse 1 wine yayin is a scoffer strong drink
00:40:51shakar or beer a brawler and whoever is led astray by it is not wise once again would grape juice
00:40:59make
00:40:59someone a scoffer or a brawler nope but alcohol sure would acts chapter 2 verses 6 13 and 15 and
00:41:08when this
00:41:08sound came to be the crowd came together and were confused because everyone heard them speak in his
00:41:13own language and others mocking said they have been filled with sweet wine glucose for these men are
00:41:19not drunk as you imagine since it is only the third hour of the day third hour of the day
00:41:24being about
00:41:24nine in the morning so the crowd outside when they saw the apostles and whatnot speaking in various tongues
00:41:31they thought wow these guys have already hit the sauce they're already drunk on new wine now would
00:41:38these people think that the apostles were drunk by drinking grape juice something that's non-alcoholic
00:41:46no they would only think that the apostles were drunk if they had been drinking alcohol and they
00:41:51specifically accused them of drinking sweet wine that new just started wine that we talked about earlier
00:41:59so again it's not talking about grape juice it's talking about alcohol first corinthians chapter
00:42:04six verses nine through ten do not do you not know that the unrighteous shall not inherit the reign of
00:42:10elohim do not be deceived neither those who whore nor idolaters nor adulterers nor effeminate
00:42:17nor homosexuals nor thieves or greedy of gain nor drunkards methusos nor revelers nor swindlers
00:42:26shall inherit the reign of elohim now once again let me reiterate methusos a drunkard is someone who
00:42:33habitually and regularly gets drunk it's not just a one-off thing this is a repeated occurrence kind of
00:42:41situation but here is putting drunkards in the same categories in the same list as things that are
00:42:48absolutely abominable and disgusting things like whores and idolaters and adulterers and the effeminate
00:42:56transsexuals in our day probably homosexuals thieves greedy of gain those who would steal from other
00:43:04people uh revelers those who would swindle etc etc and they say that this group of people including
00:43:10the drunkards will not enter the kingdom of heaven going on looking at galatians chapter 5 verses 19
00:43:18through 21 and the works of the flesh are well known which are these adultery whoring uncleanness
00:43:24indecency idolatry drug sorcery hatred quarrels jealousies fits of rage selfish ambitions dissensions
00:43:30factions envy murders drunkenness wild parties and the like of which i forewarn you even as i also said
00:43:38before that those who practice such as these shall not inherit the reign of elohim so here drunkenness
00:43:45that would be i would say be a one-off in this context but it's not talking about a one
00:43:53-off if it
00:43:54just said drunkenness then i could accept that but it also says down at the end those who practice such
00:44:00as
00:44:00these which intimates or gives the insinuation that it's an ongoing practice you don't practice
00:44:06something just once you practice it over and over like a baseball or a musical instrument or
00:44:11what have you so this drunkenness that they're talking about is being practiced over and over
00:44:17is what i get from this particular passage of scripture now if you have a different interpretation
00:44:23by all means let me know in the chat or in the comments down below and we can discuss it
00:44:29further
00:44:30but that's the way that i take this verse and the way i understand it anyways now going on to
00:44:37ephesians chapter 5 verses 17 through 18 so then do not be foolish but understand what the desire of
00:44:43yahweh is and do not be drunk with wine in which is loose behavior but be filled with the spirit
00:44:50this
00:44:51is probably one of the most direct and didactic teachings about alcohol and drunkenness and all the
00:44:57scripture says do not be drunk with wine and that is the overall teaching that i can see from
00:45:08scripture about alcohol is that it's okay to consume it's even okay as far as i can tell to get
00:45:14that little
00:45:14buzz enjoy yourself make your heart glad as we read in scriptures earlier but do not be drunk
00:45:21drunk what does drunkenness lead to well drunkenness leads to injury sometimes there's verses on you know
00:45:29wounds without cause it talks about in uh proverbs or psalms one of those it's in the notes go look
00:45:35in
00:45:35the notes but yeah you can injure yourself you can injure others you can definitely put a bad mark on
00:45:43your
00:45:43testimony and make people think negatively of the faith itself so don't be drunk but it's still okay
00:45:52to consume alcohol as long as you do it responsibly and in moderation same thing with stuff like food
00:45:59food is not bad but gluttony is that's the exact same thing it's saying with alcohol that you can drink
00:46:07alcohol but you don't go overboard like you would with gluttony being the overboard with food drunkenness
00:46:14will be the overboard with alcohol see how that works out and finally the last one we'll look at
00:46:20as far as negative passages in scriptures about alcohol is first peter chapter four verses three through
00:46:28five where we have spent enough of our past lifetime in doing the desire of the nations meaning gentiles
00:46:34having walked in indecencies lust drunkenness orgies wild parties and abominable idolatries in which
00:46:40they are surprised that you did not run with them in the same flood of loose behavior blaspheming who
00:46:47shall give an account to him who is ready to judge the living and the dead so here's something that's
00:46:54talking about here paul is saying i'm sorry peter it's talking about drunkenness being the way that you
00:47:00used to be the things you used to do when you used to be a gentile remember from our study
00:47:08in our
00:47:08episode on gentiles once you come into the faith once you're born again you become a messianic or
00:47:15you become a christian whichever term you want to use once you come into the faith you are no longer
00:47:20a gentile that has gone away there's no such thing as a gentile christian as an oxymoron it's a
00:47:27paradox you're the gentile or you're messianic christian you can't be both and here peter's saying
00:47:35when you were a gentile you would do things like get drunk regularly now that you're in the faith we
00:47:43should leave that behind and don't do that and what's something he says you should not do drunkenness
00:47:49so again scripture does say in no uncertain terms do not get drunk and definitely do not be a drunkard
00:47:59but you can consume alcohol and one of the things that we know or one of the ways that we
00:48:06know that
00:48:07you can't consume consume alcohol is because scripture does provide regulation regarding the consumption of
00:48:15alcohol alcohol now what's one of the important things to understand about scripture regulating
00:48:22the use of alcohol well the biggest thing is that scripture does not teach us and instruct us
00:48:31in how to sin that's the biggest thing right there if the consumption of alcohol was a sin it would
00:48:39simply say do not drink the wine do not drink the new wine do not drink the beard do not
00:48:47consume alcohol
00:48:48in some form or fashion or whatnot but scripture never says anything like that now admittedly scripture
00:48:58also never says thou shalt drink alcohol it's not a command and it's not prohibited it is regulated
00:49:05though which goes to show that it's not a sin because scripture does not instruct us on how to
00:49:12go about sinning so let's look at some of these regulations real quick leviticus chapter 10 verses
00:49:198 through 10 and yahweh spoke to aaron saying do not drink wine or strong drink you nor your sons
00:49:26with
00:49:26you when you go into the tent of appointment lest you die a law forever throughout your generations
00:49:31so as to make a distinction between the set apart and the profane and between the unclean and the
00:49:36clean so here if you want to talk about prohibition then number one this passage right here is only
00:49:45talking about the priest not everybody in general even further it's only talking about the priest when
00:49:53they're on duty at the temple or the tabernacle it's not all the time if they're not on duty they're
00:50:00more than welcome to have alcohol consume wine or whatnot but not while they're on duty so that's
00:50:06a regulation regarding the consumption of alcohol but then it's only for the priest now i would extend
00:50:13that to everyone going into the house of god or a temple or the tabernacle not just the priest i
00:50:21personally would extend that to everyone don't be drunk when you go to the house of god
00:50:27so i'll put it that way you disagree feel free to disagree that's fine we could still be brothers
00:50:32and sisters but that's the way i would definitely extend it to everyone on that one but just during
00:50:38that time that you're in the house of god when you leave and you go home have that glass of
00:50:43wine
00:50:43have that beer that's fine you're not sinning you're not going against scripture and i can make you this
00:50:49promise anytime you see me on video here on a teaching or a live stream i will guarantee you
00:50:56there's not the first drop of alcohol or any intoxicating substances in my body because of
00:51:02that section right there now once i hit stop streaming that may be a different story but
00:51:09during the time you see me here there's nothing there because of that passage right there now going
00:51:16on looking at proverbs chapter 31 verses 4 through 5 not for sovereigns oh lemuel not for sovereigns
00:51:21to drink wine nor for princes to desire strong drink lest they drink and forget what is inscribed
00:51:27and preferred the right of all the inflicted so here at the at most you can only say that alcohol
00:51:35consumption is not advised or if you want to for the sake of conversation we'll go ahead and say
00:51:42prohibited but it's only in the context of what's to say here sovereigns meaning kings and princes
00:51:50not everyone in general it's only talking about kings and princes again regulations on the consumption
00:51:59of wine looking at numbers chapter 6 verses 2 through 4 speak to the children of israel and say to
00:52:05them
00:52:06when a man or woman does separate by making a vow of a nazirite to be separate to yahweh he
00:52:11separates himself from wine yain and strong drink shakar here he drinks neither vinegar of wine nor
00:52:20vinegar of strong drink neither does he drink any grape juice nor eat grapes or raisins all the days of
00:52:27his separation he does not eat whatever is made of the grapevine from seed to skin first thing this is
00:52:33the vow of the nazirite and the regulations concerning the vow of the nazirite
00:52:40next if you'll notice it goes on to say that whoever does this is to refrain from consuming alcohol
00:52:49why is this important to notice because if it was normally prohibited for anyone to drink alcohol
00:52:57there would be no need to make a special exception in the nazirite vow it would just say do not
00:53:04drink
00:53:05alcohol outside of this and then it would be assumed when they're talking about the nazirite vow for
00:53:11instance in the nazirite vow it says when a man takes a nazirite vow he shall not engage in homosexual
00:53:17activities well why does it say that because it is a blanket prohibition for everyone outside of the
00:53:24whole nazirite vow regulations so when you start talking about the nazirite vow it's assumed just
00:53:31like everyone all the time they're not to be homosexuals that's not the case with wine because
00:53:36wine alcohol is not prohibited but in the case of a nazirite it is even the skin of grapes and
00:53:45raisins
00:53:46they're not allowed to have that either there's various speculations of why that is but won't get
00:53:52into that a very another very very important thing to notice it first starts listing out by saying that
00:54:00he has to be separate to yahweh he separates himself from wine and strong drink so when you're in the
00:54:08vow of
00:54:08a nazirite you do not drink any alcohol whether wine or strong drink and i would even extend that to
00:54:14distilled spirits today so no wine no strong drink no vinegar even and then notice this if you didn't
00:54:24catch it the first time catch it now it says neither does he drink any grape juice well if wine
00:54:33is only
00:54:33talking about grape juice as some people put forth why would it need to go on and include specifically
00:54:39grape juice and the whole list here contrasting it with wine and strong drink because wine and strong
00:54:47drink is not talking about grape juice wine and strong drink is talking about alcohol then it goes
00:54:52on to also include grape juice see how that works out it's so simple you start looking at this you
00:55:00start
00:55:00studying it and reading for yourself instead of just listening to a preacher on the radio or on tv or
00:55:06whoever's in the pulpit that morning do it yourself and the scriptures come alive it shows you what it
00:55:13is talking about and wine and strong drink is not referring to grape juice it's referring to alcohol
00:55:19it's so clear when you see passages like this so i thought that was very very neat and very very
00:55:24important thing to take note of moving on looking at romans chapter 14 verses 13 through 21
00:55:33therefore let us not judge one another any longer but rather judge this not to put an obstacle or a
00:55:39stumbling block in our brother's way i know and am persuaded in the master yeshua that none at all is
00:55:44common of itself but to him who regards whatever to be common to him it is common and if your
00:55:49brother
00:55:50is grieved because of your food you are no longer walking in love do not buy your food ruin the
00:55:55one
00:55:56for whom messiah died do not then allow your good to be spoken of as evil for the reign of
00:56:01elohim is
00:56:02not eating and drinking but righteousness and peace and joy in the set apart spirit for he who is serving
00:56:08messiah in these matters is well pleasing to elohim and approved by men so then let us pursue the
00:56:15matters of peace and the matters for building up one another do not destroy the work of elohim for the
00:56:20sake of food all indeed are clean but evil to that man who eats so as to cause stumbling it
00:56:26is good not
00:56:27to eat meat or drink wine nor to do whatever by which your brother stumbles now keep that passage in
00:56:34mind let's read one more real quick first corinthians chapter 8 verses 8 through 9 and 11 through 13 but
00:56:41food does not commend us to elohim for we are none the better if we eat nor any worse for
00:56:46not eating
00:56:46but look to it lest somehow this right of yours becomes a stumbling block to those who are weak
00:56:52so this weak brother for whom messiah died shall perish through your knowledge now sitting in this
00:56:59way against the brothers and wounding their weak conscience you sin against messiah therefore if food
00:57:06makes my brother stumble i am never going to eat meat lest i make my brother stumble now these two
00:57:14passages
00:57:14right here gives really good regulation in my opinion regarding the consumption of alcohol it talks a lot
00:57:21about food and especially food sacrificed idols and stuff like that but i do believe this definitely
00:57:29extends to the consumption of alcohol if you are around someone if you drink alcohol and you're around
00:57:35someone who used to be an alcoholic is trying to get off you know alcoholism it is very very important
00:57:44important for their spiritual well-being to not drink in front of them yes you have the freedom
00:57:53to drink alcohol scripture does not consider alcohol to be a sin scripture does not prohibit you from
00:58:01drinking alcohol this is something that you need to understand for the love of your brothers and sisters out
00:58:09there who are weak in conscience who are a recovering alcoholic things like that because here it says that you
00:58:18could cause them to perish through your knowledge your freedom to consume alcohol is not does not override
00:58:28someone else's walk in the faith especially those who are weak as in that instance or in that context
00:58:35people who are recovering alcoholics trying to get off of it stuff like that it is much better to refrain
00:58:42from drinking alcohol while you're in their presence it's not gonna be forever generally is never forever
00:58:48unless you married someone like that then that might be a different subject but it's not gonna take
00:58:54forever you can definitely hold off and if you can't hold off go get some help because that means you
00:58:59probably got an issue yourself but yeah think about your brothers and your sisters if you're gonna drink
00:59:04in front of somebody and consider whether or not it's going to hurt them just to see you drink or
00:59:11whether
00:59:12it's okay or not so take others into consideration now this is something i got thinking about is either
00:59:20today or yesterday that there might be this is just a thought so let me know what you think too
00:59:28it might actually be a negative to sometimes not drink in front of someone and what i mean by that
00:59:40is that number one you're not commanded to drink so if you don't drink whatsoever this really doesn't
00:59:45apply to you this is talking about those of us who are not opposed to drinking and may drink every
00:59:52now and then for instance if you're going to talk to someone a a co-worker or a friend or
00:59:57someone on the
00:59:58street or you you meet out a restaurant or something like that and you're talking to them about the
01:00:02faith and about yeshua and salvation stuff like that and they're having an alcoholic beverage as long as
01:00:10they're not overdoing it because remember consider again this situation read the room as they say
01:00:15they it may help the situation for you to also have a beverage to sip on while you're talking to
01:00:23them and
01:00:23this would let them know that hey you're not this stick in the mud prude that's all going to be
01:00:29you
01:00:29know uptight about everything and therefore they don't want anything to do with what you're
01:00:34telling them about so you see how that would kind of help break the ice and warm the waters when
01:00:40you're
01:00:40talking to someone like that so it may be helpful sometimes to even consume alcohol in furtherance of the
01:00:47faith and to help bring someone into the faith in that very specific i'll grant you a very specific
01:00:54situation that may be beneficial but once again if you think differently let me know down in the
01:01:02comments or let me know in the chat we can also always discuss that so anyways that's my thoughts
01:01:08definitely like paul tells us in corinthians and romans etc etc definitely take your brothers and
01:01:14sisters into account read the room when you're going to be consuming alcohol and never get drunk
01:01:21do not engage in drunkenness and don't be a drunkard so definitely take your brothers and sisters into
01:01:27account before you consume that alcohol think about the optics of it and whether it's going to cause
01:01:34someone else to stumble or not and decide accordingly decide rightly going on looking at first corinthians
01:01:43chapter 6 verse 12 all is permitted me but not all do profit all is permitted me but i do
01:01:51but i shall
01:01:52not be under authority meaning under the power dominated under control ruled of any this applies not only to
01:02:00alcohol but also to other things like drugs and even food or shopping or gambling do not be under that
01:02:10authority do not be under that addiction to any of these kinds of things and pertaining to this teaching
01:02:17and the subject of alcohol do not be under the authority or the control of alcohol get some help if
01:02:24you need
01:02:24it first timothy chapter three verses two through three an overseer then should be blameless the husband of one
01:02:31wife sober sensible orderly kind of strangers able to teach not given to wine no brawler but gentle not
01:02:38quarrelsome no lover of silver and then in first timothy three chapter i'm sorry chapter three verse
01:02:45eight likewise attendants are to be reverent not double tongue not given to much wine not greedy or filthy
01:02:52gain now here you see that the qualifications the regulations for a overseer an elder for a deacon an
01:03:01attendant is not to be given to much wine it doesn't say not to be given to any wine to
01:03:08be completely dry
01:03:09and sober no it says you're not to be given too much wine or even given to wine so that
01:03:18has the implications
01:03:19that even elders and deacons can have alcohol but they're not to be under the control or be alcoholics
01:03:27or drunkards stuff like that
01:03:31again if the scripture prohibited it it wouldn't even need to be listed most of the time it would
01:03:36just be assumed once they go into the qualifications for positions like this
01:03:43so now let's go ahead and start trying to put all this together and think of it in context as
01:03:50a
01:03:52we looked at the trees so now let's consider the forest as the analogy goes sometimes
01:03:58so what i would call the consumption of alcohol is a nerdy word here's a new word for you it's
01:04:06a nerdy
01:04:07word called audiophora and that is the plural of audiophoron and it's a greek word meaning not
01:04:15different or differentiable and basically the concept is especially within the matters of faith is that it's
01:04:23not essential to the faith it's not required but it is permissible that's what ideophora means
01:04:30and here is a wikipedia entry for ideophora and also a merriam-webster definition for ideophoron
01:04:38and here on the merriam-webster for the second entry it's got a religious ceremonial or ritual
01:04:43observance that is held to be an affair of the individual conscience because it is neither forbidden
01:04:49nor enjoined by the scriptures so alcohol in scriptures is ideophora it's neither forbidden
01:04:59nor commanded other things in scripture this is a list that we came up with now
01:05:07other things in scripture that are not commanded and not prohibited are things like tattoos oh yeah
01:05:16tattoos didn't think we're gonna start with that huh this is something that at least we've come to
01:05:21the conclusion that tattoos are not forbidden but at the same time they're also not commanded either
01:05:27now tattoos for the dead uh pagan idolatrous tattoos yeah those are obviously not good and prohibited but
01:05:37in general the general subject of tattoos are not forbidden how to tie zeet zeet zeet are commanded but how
01:05:45to tie them what's style or any style as long as you have a blue cord you can have other
01:05:51colors with
01:05:52it but you gotta have blue so it doesn't matter how you tie it it doesn't matter what colors you
01:05:56have
01:05:57in addition to blue as long as you got blue this is things that are ideophora which concept of the
01:06:03godhead you choose as we looked at in the godhead series whether you are a trinitarian a benitarian a
01:06:10unitarian or a oneness or a modalist it doesn't matter it's not your salvation is not dependent
01:06:18on which concept of the godhead you choose the whole subject of the godhead is ideophora dancing
01:06:26is another example of ideophora hanukkah the celebration of hanukkah the celebration of
01:06:30purim things like that getting married as we looked at at the very beginning of this teaching
01:06:36it's not getting married is not a requirement and it's also not prohibited birthdays we mentioned
01:06:42that earlier too it's celebration of birthdays as far as we can tell is not prohibited but it's also
01:06:48not commanded it's ideophora personal wealth you don't have to be wealthy according to scripture
01:06:55you're also not required to be poor either there's nothing wrong with being wealthy there's nothing wrong
01:07:00with being poor scripture does not say that money is the root of all evil what does scripture actually
01:07:06say about money scripture says that the love of money is a root of evil so there's nothing wrong with
01:07:15being wealthy either again wealth is ideophora and i'm sure you could probably think of some other things
01:07:23as well but this is alcohol is one of the many things within scripture that is neither prohibited
01:07:31nor commanded so it's up to your own conscience if you do not drink alcohol that's absolutely a okay as
01:07:38far as we can tell if you do drink alcohol that's absolutely a okay as far as we can tell
01:07:44as long as
01:07:44you're not getting drunk and especially not getting habitually drunk being a drunkard so in summary
01:07:54think back to the beginning questions that we started with at the beginning of this teaching
01:07:59number one is the consumption of alcohol a sin as we've looked at all the scriptures or not all
01:08:05the scriptures but a good majority of the scriptures on alcohol we would have to come to the conclusion
01:08:10that no the consumption of alcohol is not a sin number two is the consumption of alcohol commanded
01:08:18well after looking at the scriptures or at least a lot of the scriptures regarding the subject
01:08:23we would also have to come to the conclusion that no the consumption of alcohol is not commanded
01:08:30this is what i was going to say earlier yeah you one may try and make a case that you
01:08:38should drink
01:08:39alcohol on passover because yeshua had the cup of wine there when he had the last supper which was a
01:08:47seder meal or a passover meal and you could say well that was the example set for us so we
01:08:55should
01:08:55you know follow yeshua's example well number one is never commanded as part of the passover
01:09:02celebration to drink wine not even yeshua said thou shalt drink this that passover so i would even say
01:09:10that no even in that instance it's not commanded that you drink alcohol now if you have alcohol with
01:09:16your passover seder hey that's fine go for it nothing wrong with that
01:09:24next there was no grape juice in the days of the tanakh or the apostolic writings aka the old
01:09:30testament or the new testament the technology the pasteurization and canning and distillation stuff
01:09:38like that was thousands of years away now some people may point to the fact that they in those
01:09:46times they would boil it down this grape juice into an almost syrup like consistency in order to
01:09:53preserve it and to keep it from fermenting a comment about that real quick number one they did do that
01:10:02back then was it common no certainly not certainly not common back then it was a very labor-intensive
01:10:11process think about taking a juice uh if you've ever let me let me relate this to you if you've
01:10:18ever
01:10:18made molasses this would be pretty much the same thing i made molasses one time or helped someone
01:10:24make molasses and we actually grew the sugar cane ourselves we cut it we put it through a machine that
01:10:31squeezed out all the juice from the inside all that sugary juice from the sugar cane and then we put
01:10:38it in
01:10:38this huge pan over a fire and we boiled that juice this really watery sugar juice all night literally we
01:10:52were up all night boiling this substance to boil it down to drive off all the water and turn it
01:11:00into
01:11:00molasses it took a long time and in relation to what we started with it was only a very very
01:11:08small
01:11:08amount after that we then put it in jars we we canned it so it wouldn't go bad but back
01:11:15then
01:11:16yeah they could have done that they could have done that process but they didn't
01:11:20they had no way of sealing it up like we do today with canning equipment and if it was left
01:11:26out in the
01:11:27open then the yeast and air would have gotten on that syrupy substance and started bubbling and making
01:11:33it ferment and turning alcoholic the if it was left out and open also it would they run the risk
01:11:39of
01:11:40developing mold and things like that so even though they could make it into like a syrupy kind of
01:11:49consistency they didn't it was very very uncommon back then for them to do that kind of thing
01:11:55and plus think about it when yeshua may turn the water into wine he didn't turn it into a syrup
01:12:02because you can read the story they were already feeling good and then they said oh look at all these
01:12:09gallons and gallons of wine not syrup so yeah that's a non-starter by saying they could have you know
01:12:15turned the grape juice into a syrup to preserve it and keep it from fermenting
01:12:19no they didn't do that because then they would have to reconstitute it by adding water to it if they
01:12:24wanted to drink it and that was it's way too much work way too involved for anything like that if
01:12:30they turned it into wine that is a way also of preserving that juice and keep it from going bad
01:12:36because alcohol would kill mold spores it would kill anything that tried to get into it like bacteria
01:12:43and stuff like that most of the time so yeah it was a way of preserving it and keeping it
01:12:50for a long
01:12:50time without it going bad now a lot of times if a certain substance got into that wine and that
01:12:57wine did go bad then what you would have is what's called vinegar vinegar is pretty much just basically
01:13:04the next step in the wine process so if you got like a mother that you introduced into the wine
01:13:10it could turn into vinegar i'm sorry i'm starting to ramble so let's go on and finish this up
01:13:15anyways going on scripture consistently warns against excess drinking and we refer to this as
01:13:24drunkenness or also being a drunkard and those who habitually get drunk are referred to as drunkards
01:13:31scripture prohibits civil and religious leaders from being given to alcohol thinking back to when we read
01:13:37the verses on the kings and the princes the priest going into the temple or the tabernacle
01:13:45and also the elders and deacon qualifications and the brit hadashah now it's not forbidden completely
01:13:53outright all the time but definitely not being given to alcohol being under control being alcoholics
01:14:00being drunkards stuff like that
01:14:04and what is the holistic teaching that we asked earlier in the teaching what is the holistic teaching
01:14:11of scripture regarding the subject of alcohol while the holistic teaching from scripture is that the
01:14:17consumption of alcohol is allowed and it's neither commanded nor prohibited it's up to your own
01:14:24individual personal conscious so yeah as one person said earlier it is not a sin drinking is not a sin
01:14:32but drunkenness is and that's what scripture teaches and that is just the god honest truth
01:14:41so thank you everyone who has listened to this or watched this presentation on alcohol in the bible
