00:00:01So when it comes to the New Testament, the Brit Hadashah, everyone probably has heard
00:00:07and knows about the salvation and the disciples and Yeshua and even teachings on hell and
00:00:14stuff like that.
00:00:14But did you know that the Brit Hadashah has a lot to say about Shabbat?
00:00:20So join us in this particular teaching as we go through the Gospels and the rest of
00:00:25the Brit Hadashah or the A.K.A. New Testament and examine what it is that the New Testament
00:00:31has to say about Shabbat.
00:00:52This teaching is going to be all about the Shabbat in the Brit Hadashah or the A.K.A.
00:00:57New Testament.
00:00:58We're going to be getting into several passages, certainly not all of them for the sake of time,
00:01:02but into a lot of passages in the scriptures, several points of historical interest as
00:01:08well that might blow your mind if you've never heard this before.
00:01:11It certainly did mine.
00:01:13So definitely make sure to stay tuned for that.
00:01:16Make sure you have your notes ready.
00:01:17And if you'd like even more notes and more information than what we're going to be presenting
00:01:21in this particular presentation, make sure to go to our website at GodHonestTruth.com.
00:01:26Click on the post for this particular episode.
00:01:29And there you'll be able to find the on-demand video.
00:01:32You'll be able to find the Drosh slides and the notes that we took for this subject, as
00:01:38well as some A.I. research reports, which are very informative as well.
00:01:42And you'll also be able to find the transcript if that's something that is of any benefit to
00:01:47you.
00:01:47But it's all right there on our website at GodHonestTruth.com.
00:01:50And of course, the easiest and quickest way to get to that article page is going to be
00:01:56in the link that we have conveniently provided for you down below in the description.
00:02:00And that should be down there, whether you're watching on a video platform or an audio podcasting
00:02:06platform.
00:02:07Now, just to get started, let's go over the, do an overview of the series real quick, just
00:02:13like we did last time in episode one, when we looked at Shabbat in the Tanakh.
00:02:19Number one, we're going to be talking about, or the Bible talks about multiple kinds of
00:02:23Sabbaths in scripture.
00:02:25There's the weekly Sabbath, which is what this series is all about.
00:02:29There's also the festival Sabbaths, like with the Sukkot or Pesach, when you got the Shabbaton
00:02:35or the minor Sabbath, the high day at the beginning and the end of that particular Moedim.
00:02:41Those are a type of Sabbath, sometimes called Shabbatons.
00:02:45You also have the seventh year Sabbath, which is called the Shemitah, and you also have the
00:02:51fiftieth year Sabbath, which is called the Jubilee or the Yovel.
00:02:56Now, the rest of these, we're not going to be really talking about or discussing all that
00:03:00much.
00:03:00We might mention them in passing, but this particular series is really focused on the
00:03:05weekly Sabbath.
00:03:08Now, this whole series is broken up into various episodes so we can get more into detail on
00:03:14each different section and to make it a little bit easier to digest.
00:03:18And if you want to look it up later, you've also got an easier way to look up these various
00:03:23references and information that we're going to go over.
00:03:25The first episode that we did last time was the Shabbat and how it relates or was mentioned
00:03:31about it in the Tanakh.
00:03:33This episode, we're going to be looking at Shabbat and the Brit Hadashah or the AKA New
00:03:38Testament.
00:03:40Next time, that's what's really going to be informative here is when we look at Shabbat
00:03:45in the early century, centuries, specifically from 31 CE all the way up through about 500 CE,
00:03:54especially in the fourth century because there's a whole bunch of stuff went on in the fourth
00:03:58century.
00:03:59But next episode, we're going to be looking at Shabbat in the early centuries.
00:04:03Then we're going to be taking a look at Shabbat, the Reformation, and anything else that doesn't
00:04:07really belong in its own episode.
00:04:09Episode five, we're going to be talking about arguments for Sunday, examining those in light
00:04:15of scripture and the historical evidence.
00:04:17And then finally, we're going to be wrapping up with the lunar Sabbath, what it is, what scripture
00:04:23has to say, and also putting that to the verses we find in the Bible.
00:04:28As well.
00:04:29And of course, we're going to be trying to have a forum between each of these to discuss
00:04:33it with a invited guest.
00:04:36Hopefully it's someone who is knowledgeable and we're really hoping to have someone who
00:04:42has a differing opinion with what we presented previously.
00:04:46Obviously, but that's not always going to be able to do that, but that's what we're going
00:04:53to try for.
00:04:54But yeah, that's going to be our Sabbath series as we examine the Shabbat in scripture.
00:05:01Now, some terminology that we're going to go over during this series.
00:05:04Most of you already know this if you're from a messianic mindset, but I do think it might
00:05:08be prudent to go over it one more time.
00:05:10And just in case we have people out there who are not as familiar.
00:05:15Number one, we're going to be looking at there or be using the word Shabbat.
00:05:18Now, what is Shabbat?
00:05:19Well, as we know it here in modern English, that would be the Hebrew word for our English
00:05:25word, which is Sabbath.
00:05:26So Shabbat is the Hebrew word.
00:05:29Sabbath is the English word.
00:05:32The Sabbath, as it relates to scripture, is according to according to scripture from Friday
00:05:39at sundown until Saturday at sundown.
00:05:42Now we see in the book of Genesis, it's evening to morning.
00:05:46I'm sorry, evening and morning make up a single day.
00:05:49So therefore, the seventh day would be Friday at sunset until Saturday at sunset.
00:05:55We'll also be using the term Shabbatom, and this pretty much means a high day, a minor
00:06:01Sabbath, a festival Sabbath, to be more specific.
00:06:03We mentioned that earlier with the first and last days of Sukkot and Pesach, etc., etc.
00:06:09These are Sabbaths that are in addition to the weekly Sabbath, and they only occur during
00:06:17the feast days or the Moadim, especially the Moadim.
00:06:21We're also going to be using the word Tanakh, and Tanakh is an acronym that stands for Torah,
00:06:28Nevaim, and Ketuvim, which is the Torah, the Nevaim, which is the prophets, and the Ketuvim,
00:06:36which is the writings.
00:06:37It's also referred to nowadays in modern English-sized terms as the Old Testament.
00:06:45And we've got the term Brit Hadashah, which we'll be using extensively in this particular
00:06:50episode.
00:06:51And Brit Hadashah is referring to the Messianic writings, the writings of Paul, the Gospels,
00:06:57etc., etc., commonly referred to nowadays as the New Testament.
00:07:03So for this particular episode, there's a couple of things I'd like for you to put down in your
00:07:08notes and focus on as we go through this particular episode and as you go through the Brit Hadashah
00:07:14or the AKA New Testament.
00:07:16Now, as we go through this particular teaching, we're not going to be getting into a lot of
00:07:21the arguments or what's referred to commonly as proof text for a change in the Sabbath because
00:07:28we're going to be getting into that in other episodes.
00:07:30We're basically going to be examining a lot of the other scriptures related to the Sabbath
00:07:36and then get into those change, quote-unquote change, passages in a later episode.
00:07:42But as you go through this particular episode and future episodes and pretty much any teaching
00:07:48or examination or study that you go through, try to keep these particular factors and points
00:07:55in mind as you go through your Bible.
00:07:57So when examining a particular passage or doing a study itself, make sure to ask yourself,
00:08:03what do you know when you read a particular passage and is what you know based on exegesis
00:08:08or eisegesis?
00:08:09A good way to, you know, kind of go over this particular point is try to forget what you
00:08:16believe about a particular passage.
00:08:18And that's hard sometimes.
00:08:19I know.
00:08:19I understand.
00:08:20But just put it out of your mind and then examine the passage just for what it is and then
00:08:26try to match that up with what you believe.
00:08:29And can you draw directly out of the text what you believe or is there some amount of
00:08:35interpretation or a lot of interpretation required in order to make your belief and scripture
00:08:40match up?
00:08:41When you go to a passage, examine what it is that you currently believe and determine or
00:08:46try to determine whether what you believe is based in exegesis or eisegesis for that particular
00:08:51passage.
00:08:52Also, look at a particular passage, and this is especially important with the Sabbath in
00:08:57the Brit Hadashah.
00:08:59Try to understand and think to yourself, is this particular passage a command or is it
00:09:05an interpretation?
00:09:07And especially with current doctrines and what you believe as well, is what you believe a
00:09:12command from scripture or is it an interpretation that you have?
00:09:17I'm not going to get into the specifics of where it may have come from, where it be tradition
00:09:20or your own study, your own bias, et cetera, et cetera.
00:09:23But is this what you believe a command or is it an interpretation?
00:09:28Also, is the particular passage you're reading or trying to study, is it the descriptive or
00:09:33prescriptive?
00:09:34Because this comes into a or comes to be a very important factor when looking at the
00:09:42the subject of the Sabbath and the Brit Hadashah.
00:09:45Certain passages are descriptive in nature, but people take them as being prescriptive and
00:09:51base their entire theology and their doctrine of the Sabbath off of something that is descriptive
00:09:56rather than prescriptive.
00:09:58So just to clear up some confusion real quick, if you don't know the difference between descriptive
00:10:04and prescriptive, well, it's sort of like a make an observation versus a rule or an observation
00:10:12versus a command or an order or stuff like that.
00:10:15Descriptive is something that explains how things are, while prescriptive dictates or commands
00:10:22or orders how they ought to be.
00:10:25Take, for instance, the Ten Commandments when it says thou shalt not commit adultery.
00:10:30That is prescriptive saying don't do it.
00:10:34When it says thou shalt have no other gods before me, that is prescriptive telling you
00:10:40do not have any other gods, only Yahweh.
00:10:44Now, descriptive would be something to the effect of going along that last example, the Israelites
00:10:51having other gods and falling into idolatry.
00:10:53That would be a description of something they did, but it's not prescribing idolatry.
00:10:58You see the difference there?
00:10:59So here is a good analogy that I found during this particular research.
00:11:06And it said this analogy goes as such.
00:11:08It's like a traffic report versus a speed limit sign.
00:11:12The traffic report describes how fast people are actually driving.
00:11:16It would be descriptive.
00:11:18The speed limit sign prescribes how fast they are legally allowed to go.
00:11:22That would be a prescriptive example.
00:11:26But that's the difference between descriptive and prescriptive.
00:11:29And when you're examining every subject, actually, but especially for this particular subject with the Sabbath in the New Testament
00:11:36or the Brut HaDashah,
00:11:38definitely think to yourself, is what I'm looking at, is it prescriptive or is it descriptive?
00:11:45And we don't base commands and what we should do off of descriptive things.
00:11:51It's an example, maybe, but it's not necessarily prescriptive.
00:11:55So here's some interesting things that I came across in my particular research that I would like to present to
00:12:01you that I thought was very, very interesting.
00:12:04And this doesn't come from scripture.
00:12:07This comes from around the time of the same time frame as the Brut HaDashah.
00:12:14So I thought it would be relevant to place in this particular teaching here.
00:12:19Did you know that before the writing of the Brut HaDashah and before the events of the Brut HaDashah,
00:12:25that both Julius Caesar and Augustus Caesar enacted decrees to protect and allow Jewish observance of many different things,
00:12:35but especially the Sabbath.
00:12:37I found this to be very, very interesting.
00:12:40We look at Antiquities of the Jews by Josephus.
00:12:44This is I found it in Book 14, Section 225.
00:12:48It says, quote, I, therefore, speaking about Julius Caesar,
00:12:52I, therefore, like the governors before me, grant them exemption from military service
00:12:57and allow them to follow their native customs and to come together for sacred and holy rights in accordance with
00:13:02their law
00:13:02and to make offerings for their sacrifices.
00:13:05And it is my wish that these instructions to the various that you write these instructions to the various cities,
00:13:12end quote.
00:13:13And this is Josephus recounting a particular passage or order from Julius Caesar.
00:13:19Now, what was that particular order?
00:13:21Well, let's look down here.
00:13:22This is from the decrees of Julius Caesar as emperor from the Center for Online Judaic Studies.
00:13:28And here is the relevant part.
00:13:30Quote, because of their refusal to bear arms or march on the Sabbath
00:13:33and their insistence on special foods in accordance with their dietary laws,
00:13:38Caesar exempted them from compulsory military service, end quote.
00:13:43Just kind of give a little bit of background.
00:13:45Now, the Judeans here refused to bear arms or march on the Sabbath.
00:13:51And that, for obvious reasons, made them poor soldiers within the Roman army.
00:13:57Now, particularly, I disagree with, you know, this in general, because we did go over in previous episodes,
00:14:04previous teachings about the concept of Bakuok Nefesh.
00:14:07And we'll get a little bit more into that as we go through this particular teaching.
00:14:10But that statement or that belief is a sort of like, if I can explain this real quick,
00:14:17it's a bending or a temporarily setting aside of some of the commandments for the sake of life.
00:14:23And I think they were not following this particular ordinance of Bakuok Nefesh to defend themselves on the Sabbath if
00:14:33they were attacked.
00:14:34And we'll get into some more of that in the next episode about the early centuries.
00:14:38But this happened way before that particular episode anyways.
00:14:43So, yeah, Julius Caesar exempted them from military service because of their Sabbath observance.
00:14:49And it's very interesting also that during this research, I found that Julius Caesar put forth so many
00:14:58or so stringent or effective decrees and stuff protecting and establishing and allowing Jewish observance of a lot of biblical
00:15:09stuff
00:15:09that when Julius Caesar was betrayed and killed, there was a lot of Jews that wept for him all because
00:15:15of that.
00:15:16And I found it very interesting because, well, I won't get into that.
00:15:20I'm about to get on the tangent. I'm not going to do it.
00:15:22Anyways, that's Julius Caesar.
00:15:24And there's some more information that goes along with that.
00:15:25But I thought this was very relevant in this Sabbath quote about Julius Caesar and what he did for the
00:15:33Judeans or the Jews.
00:15:34Moving on to Augustus Caesar, he did very, very similar things.
00:15:38And this comes from the ancient Jewish history edict of Augustus on Jewish rights from the Jewish virtual library.
00:15:45It says here, quote,
00:15:47And that their sacred offerings shall be inviolable and shall be sent to Jerusalem and shall be paid to the
00:15:53financial officials of Jerusalem,
00:15:55and that they shall not give sureties for appearance in court on the Sabbath or on the day of preparation
00:16:02before it after the ninth hour.
00:16:06So Augustus wrote this decree, or edict, I guess you could say, and he made it a, I guess you
00:16:14could say, command or law,
00:16:16that the Judeans could not be called to court on the Sabbath and even extended that to go back the
00:16:25day before or right before the Sabbath day,
00:16:28which is called the preparation day.
00:16:29And they couldn't be called to court after the ninth hour on the preparation day.
00:16:33So I thought that was very, very interesting as well.
00:16:38I didn't know this before this particular study.
00:16:41I'm sorry, before this particular episode that I was preparing for and trying to add to.
00:16:46But I found that to be very, very interesting that both Julius Caesar and then Augustus Caesar enacted these protections
00:16:53for the observance of the various Hebraic principles found within scripture.
00:16:58Now, another thing you've heard of the Dead Sea Scrolls and what the Dead Sea Scrolls are is a bunch
00:17:06of writings and stuff that were preserved by a community at Qumran.
00:17:11And these were a sect or a group of Judeans, and they were pretty much about the same level on
00:17:22par as the Sadducees and the Pharisees.
00:17:25But they had their own particular way of doing things.
00:17:28And when it comes to the subject of the Sabbath or Shabbat, they had a lot of stringent things.
00:17:35And this comes from the Damascus document in the Dead Sea Scrolls.
00:17:39There's other stuff, too, and other fragments.
00:17:42But there's a lot of relevant information here on the Sabbath as the Essenes saw it in the Qumran community.
00:17:50Now, let me read a couple of these rules that they had for the observance of the Sabbath to you
00:17:57real quick.
00:17:58Number one, they say that no man shall walk more than 1,000 cubits beyond his town.
00:18:05Now, that sounds rather interesting because the Judeans had a concept of a Sabbath day journey.
00:18:12You don't find that in scripture, but we do find a quick mention of it in the Brit Hadashah, though.
00:18:19It's not a commandment or a restriction in scripture, but that is something that the Judeans had, both the Pharisees
00:18:26and the Essenes, as we see here.
00:18:29And it goes on here in this Damascus document on the rules for Shabbat observance.
00:18:36It says, he shall eat nothing lying in the fields.
00:18:41Remember that as we go through the passages in the Brit Hadashah.
00:18:45And it goes on to say, no man shall willingly mingle with others on the Sabbath.
00:18:51Keep that in mind.
00:18:52Put that in your notes as we go through the verses here in just a little bit.
00:18:56Then further on down, it goes, no man shall carry perfumes on himself whilst going and coming on the Sabbath.
00:19:05Apparently, according to the Essenes, you couldn't smell good on the Sabbath.
00:19:10Then it goes on, according to the Essenes, it says, no man minding a child shall carry it whilst going
00:19:16and coming on the Sabbath.
00:19:18So if you have child care, you cannot carry the child, according to the Essenes.
00:19:23Then it goes on.
00:19:24This is really important.
00:19:25Check this out.
00:19:26Remember this particularly.
00:19:28Then it goes on to say, no man shall assist a beast to give birth on the Sabbath day.
00:19:33And if it should fall into a cistern or pit, he shall not lift it out on the Sabbath.
00:19:41Some of you out there are already thinking, already putting two to two together.
00:19:44But for the rest of you, write that down.
00:19:46Remember that.
00:19:47One of the rules, according to the Essenes at Qumran, is that if an animal should fall in a pit,
00:19:53you cannot rescue it or lift it out on the Sabbath.
00:19:57We'll get into that in just a little bit.
00:19:59Then it goes on to say, no man shall spend the Sabbath in a place near two Gentiles on the
00:20:05Sabbath.
00:20:06A Qumran was out separated by itself.
00:20:09So they were, it was pretty easy for them to separate themselves from non-believers.
00:20:14But yeah, one of their rules for observing Shabbat was don't be near Gentile, non-believer.
00:20:21And finally, an example that I'm, the last example I'll give you for this particular teaching.
00:20:26Should any man fall into water or fire, let him not be pulled out with the aid of a ladder
00:20:33or rope or some such utensil.
00:20:39So previously we read that if an animal gets in a pit, you can't rescue them.
00:20:43But now if a human being falls into water or if he falls into a fire, you cannot rescue him.
00:20:52If you're going to be using a ladder or a rope or any other utensil.
00:20:58And that's just what I could fit on this slide that I thought would be interesting for your perusal.
00:21:04There's a lot more if you go look in the Damascus document and all the other particular fragments.
00:21:09And there's a lot more in the notes that we have provided for you on our website as well.
00:21:14But the things I thought was very, very interesting.
00:21:16And I want you to remember for this particular study, as we look at Sabbath and the Berhadashah,
00:21:21is that it shall not eat nothing lying in the fields.
00:21:25Shall not willingly mingle with others.
00:21:28Shall not be near Gentiles on the Sabbath.
00:21:32Shall not carry a child.
00:21:34And especially do not rescue an animal if it falls into a pit on the Sabbath.
00:21:39Remember those because it's going to be very important as we go forward and look at some various scriptures here
00:21:44in just a moment.
00:21:46And speaking of those various scriptures, let's go ahead and dive into that right now.
00:21:50And let's start out with our examination of Shabbat in the Berhadashah by looking at Shabbat in the Gospels themselves.
00:21:59We're going to be starting out with Matthew chapter 5 verses 17 through 19.
00:22:04Do not think that I came to destroy the Torah or the prophets.
00:22:07I did not come to destroy but to complete.
00:22:10For truly I say to you, till the heaven and the earth pass away,
00:22:14one yod or one tittle shall by no means pass from the Torah.
00:22:17It will all be done.
00:22:19Whoever then breaks one of the least of these commands and teaches men so
00:22:23shall be called least in the reign of the heavens.
00:22:26But whoever does and teaches them, he shall be called great in the reign of the heavens.
00:22:33So how does this relate to Shabbat?
00:22:36Well, it doesn't specifically say Shabbat or Sabbath or anything like that,
00:22:40but it does relate to it because it's part of the Torah and the prophets,
00:22:45part of the Tanakh that we looked at last time.
00:22:48And this is Yeshua stating in no uncertain terms that he did not come to destroy the Torah or the
00:22:57prophets.
00:22:58What's something that is contained and commanded within the Torah is the Shabbat.
00:23:04But that's why we put it right here.
00:23:07But also notice here, this is something, especially for those of you out there who are like me,
00:23:12you're more of a messianic mindset.
00:23:14Don't get into what Calvinists call cage stage and stay there.
00:23:19That's not very good because we have a term, you've probably heard it before,
00:23:26but it's called messianics, not messianic, but messianics.
00:23:30And this is usually a lot of people who just first come into the messianic way of thinking.
00:23:35But notice here that it says,
00:23:49So it seems like to me here that even people nowadays who break the commands,
00:23:55even including Shabbat, and then teaches people to do so,
00:24:00they will still be in heaven, but they'll be called least in the kingdom of heaven.
00:24:07So this, again, keeping the Torah is not about salvation.
00:24:11You don't earn salvation by keeping the Torah.
00:24:14In fact, you can see here by Yeshua's own words that you can break it
00:24:18and even teach other people to break some of these commands and still get to heaven.
00:24:23You can be at least in the kingdom of heaven, but you'll still be in heaven.
00:24:27But I think it was very important to keep this in mind
00:24:30as we go through this particular section of scripture,
00:24:33the Brit Adashah and the subject of Shabbat.
00:24:37We went on looking at Mark chapter 2, verses 23 to 28.
00:24:41And it came to be that he went through the grain fields on the Sabbath,
00:24:44and as they went, his taught ones began to pluck heads of grain.
00:24:48And the Pharisees said to him,
00:24:50Look, why do you do what is not right on the Sabbath?
00:24:53And he said to them,
00:24:54Have you never read what Dawid did when he had need and was hungry,
00:24:58he and those with him?
00:25:00How he went into the house of Elohim,
00:25:02while Ebiathar was high priest,
00:25:05and ate the showbread, which is not right to eat,
00:25:08except for the priest.
00:25:09And he gave it also to those who were with him.
00:25:12And he said to them,
00:25:14The Sabbath was made for man, and not man for the Sabbath.
00:25:17So the son of Adam, or the son of man,
00:25:20is also master of the Sabbath, or lord of the Sabbath.
00:25:25A couple things to point out here.
00:25:26We looked last time about the showbread
00:25:29and the various things that the priests did on the Sabbath.
00:25:32They even had extra things to do on the Sabbath,
00:25:35as we saw in the last episode back in the Knot.
00:25:39But here, Yeshua is stating that he is the master of the Sabbath.
00:25:44He's the lord of the Sabbath,
00:25:45meaning that he has the top priority,
00:25:49the last call, as it were,
00:25:52in interpreting and dictating
00:25:55how the Sabbath is to be understood,
00:25:59or interpreted.
00:26:02Now, another thing that we looked at last time
00:26:04is that there's very, very little dictionary definition
00:26:08entries in scripture,
00:26:10especially in the stock,
00:26:11about what work is.
00:26:13We see no kindling of fire.
00:26:15We see the example and the command of no commerce,
00:26:19et cetera, et cetera.
00:26:21But that's about it.
00:26:23We don't gather sticks.
00:26:25Don't kindle a fire.
00:26:26And there's a lot that goes into that,
00:26:28but that's the basic two commands right there.
00:26:32There's a lot left open to the gray area.
00:26:35And unfortunately,
00:26:37the Judeans,
00:26:38the Pharisees here,
00:26:41were having all these different things
00:26:43that they added to the commandments
00:26:45in order to put guardrails and fences
00:26:47around the observance of various things,
00:26:50Sabbath in this particular context.
00:26:51And it really put a stranglehold on a lot of people,
00:26:55and they put it a lot of times
00:26:56above even the commands of Yahweh himself.
00:26:59But here, Yeshua is saying,
00:27:01no, I have the authority to interpret correctly
00:27:04because I am the master or the Lord of the Sabbath.
00:27:07Another thing that is very important to point out here
00:27:10that maybe some people miss,
00:27:12but is definitely something to keep in mind.
00:27:15He says that the Sabbath was made for man
00:27:18and not man for the Sabbath.
00:27:22The Sabbath is not to be a bunch of rules and regulations
00:27:26and something that is a burden to man.
00:27:31We're not here to serve the Sabbath.
00:27:34The Sabbath is for us.
00:27:35We are not for the Sabbath.
00:27:38It was made for our refreshment,
00:27:40for our enjoyment,
00:27:41for our rejuvenation,
00:27:43things like that.
00:27:44We weren't made to serve it and slave over it
00:27:47during for 613 or 700
00:27:50or however many fences that the Judeans had.
00:27:56That's kind of the point that Yeshua is getting to here
00:27:58is that the Sabbath is a gift for us.
00:28:02We are not slaves for a particular time
00:28:05or period of time.
00:28:07No, it's for our enjoyment,
00:28:09for our refreshment.
00:28:10Sabbath was made for us.
00:28:12Also, notice here, too,
00:28:14what the whole conflict is about.
00:28:19You have Yeshua and his disciples.
00:28:22You have the Pharisees.
00:28:23And they are clashing.
00:28:26But why are they clashing?
00:28:27Well, they're clashing over Shabbat, obviously,
00:28:30and the observance of Shabbat
00:28:32and how to observe it correctly.
00:28:35But what is that whole observance thing about?
00:28:39Is it about which day of the week?
00:28:41No.
00:28:42There is absolutely zero conflict here
00:28:45about which day of the week
00:28:47the Sabbath is actually on.
00:28:49Both of them understood it, both sides.
00:28:51Both Yeshua and the disciples
00:28:52and the Pharisees were in agreement
00:28:55on what day of the week Shabbat was.
00:28:58They were just in a different opinion,
00:29:00different interpretation
00:29:01about how to observe the Shabbat
00:29:05and what was allowed and not allowed.
00:29:07And that's where their conflict really comes in
00:29:10is that the Pharisees made up all these fences
00:29:13about observance of Shabbat
00:29:14and they were going against Yeshua.
00:29:17But Yeshua said,
00:29:18no, no, no, no.
00:29:19Let me correctly interpret for you.
00:29:21So it's the observance that's in class here,
00:29:24not which day of the week.
00:29:26Moving on to Luke chapter 6, verses 6 to 10.
00:29:58And it also came to be on another Sabbath
00:30:00And looking around at them all,
00:30:01he said to them,
00:30:03stretch out your hand.
00:30:04And he did so,
00:30:05and his hand was restored,
00:30:06sound as the other.
00:30:09So here is another conflict.
00:30:11But what is the conflict that's going on?
00:30:14Well, again, it has nothing to do
00:30:17about which day of the week
00:30:18the Sabbath is supposed to be on.
00:30:19Everybody here was in agreement
00:30:21on which day of the week
00:30:23the Sabbath actually was.
00:30:25Even the Pharisees,
00:30:26they had the day right.
00:30:28Their fences and their interpretation was wrong,
00:30:30but they had the day right.
00:30:32Even the Essenes,
00:30:33who were more strict than even the Pharisees,
00:30:36had the correct day.
00:30:38So these two passages
00:30:40that we've looked at so far,
00:30:41there is zero conflict
00:30:42as to which day of the week
00:30:44the Sabbath is supposed to be on.
00:30:46Now, according to the
00:30:47Pharisaical interpretation here
00:30:50about observance of Shabbat and healing,
00:30:52their kind of mindset was,
00:30:55okay, someone is infirmed.
00:30:57They are sick.
00:30:58They have a disease.
00:31:00They can wait 24 hours,
00:31:02come back on the first day of the week,
00:31:03and then be healed.
00:31:05Because they would define that as work.
00:31:07But Yeshua,
00:31:08no,
00:31:08he just went ahead
00:31:09and he healed the man
00:31:10on Shabbat
00:31:12and said,
00:31:13this is what Shabbat is for us.
00:31:15Do good
00:31:16to your fellow man.
00:31:18Now, again,
00:31:19we're not supposed to do work,
00:31:21but that's left open
00:31:23hugely
00:31:24to interpretation.
00:31:25Now,
00:31:26certain things
00:31:27have been interpreted
00:31:28for us
00:31:29by Yeshua
00:31:30as we go through
00:31:30these particular passages.
00:31:31but,
00:31:32yeah,
00:31:34doing good
00:31:34is one thing
00:31:35that Yeshua
00:31:36told us
00:31:37and exemplified for us
00:31:39to do
00:31:39on Shabbat.
00:31:41Do good
00:31:42for your fellow man.
00:31:44Healing
00:31:44is something that
00:31:45Yeshua did
00:31:46as a good thing
00:31:48toward his fellow man.
00:31:50moving on
00:31:51to Matthew
00:31:52chapter 12
00:31:53verses 10
00:31:53to 6.
00:31:55I'm sorry,
00:31:56chapter 12
00:31:58verses 10
00:31:58through 16.
00:31:59And see,
00:32:00there was a man
00:32:01having a withered hand
00:32:01and they asked him,
00:32:02saying,
00:32:03is it right to heal
00:32:04on the Sabbath
00:32:04so as to accuse him?
00:32:06And he said to them,
00:32:07what man is there
00:32:09among you
00:32:09who has one sheep
00:32:10and if it falls
00:32:11into a pit
00:32:12on the Sabbath
00:32:13shall not take hold
00:32:14of it
00:32:14and lift it out?
00:32:15How much more worth
00:32:16is a man
00:32:17than a sheep?
00:32:18So it is right
00:32:18to do good
00:32:19on the Sabbath.
00:32:21Then he said to the man,
00:32:22stretch out your hand.
00:32:23And he stretched it out
00:32:24and it was restored
00:32:25as healthy
00:32:26as the other.
00:32:27The Pharisees went out
00:32:28and took counsel
00:32:29against him
00:32:30so as to destroy him.
00:32:31But Yeshua,
00:32:32knowing it,
00:32:33withdrew from there
00:32:34and large crowds
00:32:35followed him
00:32:36and he healed them all
00:32:37and warned them
00:32:38not to make him known.
00:32:41So again,
00:32:42Yeshua is emphasizing
00:32:44and exemplifying
00:32:45doing good
00:32:46on Shabbat.
00:32:47And if you remember
00:32:48from our examination
00:32:50of the various
00:32:52laws
00:32:52that the Essenes
00:32:53came up with,
00:32:54this stands in stark contrast
00:32:56with what the Essenes
00:32:57observed on Shabbat
00:32:59and how strict they were.
00:33:00Here,
00:33:00Yeshua is actually
00:33:01agreeing with
00:33:02a particular point
00:33:03with the Pharisees
00:33:05that if an animal
00:33:06is in danger
00:33:07on Shabbat,
00:33:09they should rescue him.
00:33:10Both Yeshua
00:33:11and the Pharisees
00:33:12agree on that point.
00:33:13And he's using that
00:33:15to make a greater point,
00:33:16yes,
00:33:16but they agree
00:33:17that animals
00:33:18should be rescued.
00:33:19Essenes,
00:33:20no.
00:33:21They said,
00:33:21nope,
00:33:22leave it there,
00:33:22it's still alive
00:33:23after Shabbat,
00:33:24then you can rescue it.
00:33:26So this is
00:33:27one of the point
00:33:27to,
00:33:28one of the many points
00:33:29actually,
00:33:30to distinguish
00:33:31Yeshua
00:33:32from the Essenes
00:33:33and to know
00:33:33that Yeshua
00:33:34was not
00:33:35one of the Essenes.
00:33:36Yeah,
00:33:37Yeshua again
00:33:38heals on the Sabbath
00:33:40and does good
00:33:41toward his fellow man.
00:33:44And moving on,
00:33:45looking at Matthew
00:33:46chapter 24,
00:33:47verse 20.
00:33:48This is about
00:33:49the end times
00:33:50and the future,
00:33:51a prophecy,
00:33:52if you will.
00:33:53And pray that your flight
00:33:55does not take place
00:33:56in winter
00:33:57or on the Sabbath.
00:34:00Now,
00:34:01as we've looked
00:34:02at all the passages
00:34:03so far
00:34:03in this particular teaching,
00:34:04and as you have read
00:34:06in your scriptures,
00:34:07is there any indication
00:34:09or is there any argument
00:34:11actually,
00:34:11even from the mainstream
00:34:12churchianity nowadays,
00:34:14that before this point
00:34:15in time
00:34:15that the Sabbath
00:34:17was changed?
00:34:18I don't think so.
00:34:20So,
00:34:20Yeshua,
00:34:21the apostles,
00:34:22disciples,
00:34:23and everyone else
00:34:24up to this point
00:34:25at the very least
00:34:25understood that
00:34:27when they said
00:34:28Sabbath,
00:34:28they meant
00:34:29the seventh day
00:34:30of the week.
00:34:31And here Yeshua
00:34:32is talking about
00:34:33the end times
00:34:34and especially
00:34:35the various trials
00:34:36and tribulations
00:34:37are going to be coming
00:34:38that we're going to be
00:34:39having to go through
00:34:40and stuff like that.
00:34:41He says,
00:34:42pray that your flight
00:34:43does not take place
00:34:44in winter
00:34:44or on the Sabbath.
00:34:47So,
00:34:47here Yeshua
00:34:48is of the understanding
00:34:50that the Sabbath
00:34:51is continuing.
00:34:53The seventh day
00:34:54rest,
00:34:55the seventh day Sabbath
00:34:56is continuing
00:34:57even on up
00:34:58until the end time.
00:35:00Have we gotten
00:35:01to the end times yet?
00:35:02Nope.
00:35:03Not yet.
00:35:04So,
00:35:04Yeshua,
00:35:05if the Sabbath
00:35:06has been changed,
00:35:07Yeshua was not informed.
00:35:09He did not get the memo.
00:35:10Someone forgot
00:35:11to carbon copy him
00:35:12on the email.
00:35:13But this verse
00:35:14quietly dismantles
00:35:15the claim
00:35:16that the Torah
00:35:17would be abolished
00:35:18because at least
00:35:19one part of the Torah,
00:35:20the Sabbath,
00:35:21Yeshua understood
00:35:22to be continuing
00:35:22into the end times.
00:35:24And this also
00:35:24quietly dismantles
00:35:25the claim
00:35:26that the Sabbath
00:35:26observance would cease
00:35:28because,
00:35:29like we just said,
00:35:30Yeshua understood
00:35:31the Sabbath
00:35:31to be continuing
00:35:32until the end times.
00:35:34If Sabbath observance
00:35:35were irrelevant
00:35:36and if it had been
00:35:37done away with,
00:35:38then Yeshua
00:35:39would not mention it
00:35:40as a concern.
00:35:43I mean,
00:35:43ever think about that?
00:35:44There's a lot
00:35:45that goes into
00:35:46this one particular verse,
00:35:48but if Yeshua,
00:35:50being who he was,
00:35:51he was the Messiah,
00:35:52the son of Yahweh,
00:35:53he heard and learned
00:35:57from his father
00:35:58and he knew
00:35:59a whole bunch of stuff
00:36:01that was taught to him
00:36:02and told to him.
00:36:04However,
00:36:05he did not ever get the memo
00:36:07about Sabbath being changed.
00:36:09No.
00:36:09Instead,
00:36:10he knew the Sabbath
00:36:11was not going to be changed.
00:36:13If he did know
00:36:14it was going to be changed,
00:36:14then he wouldn't have made
00:36:15such a statement like this
00:36:16about the end times.
00:36:19Obviously.
00:36:20So Yeshua assumes
00:36:22continuity,
00:36:23not cancellation
00:36:25or abrogation.
00:36:26So moving on,
00:36:28looking at Luke chapter 23
00:36:29verses 54 through 56.
00:36:32And it was preparation day
00:36:34and the Sabbath
00:36:34was approaching
00:36:36and the women
00:36:37who had come with him
00:36:38from Galil
00:36:38followed after
00:36:39and saw the tomb
00:36:40and how his body was laid
00:36:42and having returned,
00:36:43they prepared spices
00:36:44and perfumes
00:36:45and they rested
00:36:46on the Sabbath
00:36:47according to the command.
00:36:51So here,
00:36:52Yeshua
00:36:53went through his life
00:36:55and went through his ministry.
00:36:56He has been
00:36:57scourged
00:36:58and crucified
00:36:59and he has been
00:37:01killed
00:37:01and put
00:37:02in the tomb
00:37:03at this point
00:37:05in scripture.
00:37:06And the women
00:37:07who were going to go
00:37:08and bomb
00:37:08or put spices
00:37:10on his body,
00:37:12they got the spices
00:37:13as we looked at
00:37:14in the Pesach teaching
00:37:16and also a little bit
00:37:17on the Easter teaching
00:37:18that when he was crucified
00:37:20the next day
00:37:21was a high day.
00:37:22It was the first
00:37:23Shabbaton
00:37:23of the Passover week.
00:37:26They couldn't do anything there.
00:37:28Then it was Friday
00:37:29so they went out
00:37:30and they'd done their shopping
00:37:31they got the spices
00:37:32et cetera, et cetera
00:37:33prepared those
00:37:34but they didn't have time
00:37:35to go to the tomb.
00:37:36So then they rested
00:37:37because it says here
00:37:38it was preparation day
00:37:39that Friday
00:37:41and the Sabbath
00:37:42was approaching.
00:37:44So they rested
00:37:45according to the command
00:37:46it says here
00:37:46and apparently
00:37:49the women
00:37:50didn't get the memo
00:37:51that had been changed
00:37:52either because
00:37:53they were still
00:37:54going according
00:37:55to what Yahweh
00:37:57told them
00:37:57in the Sanak
00:37:58and that was
00:37:59observe the seventh day
00:38:01as a commandment
00:38:02forever
00:38:03a perpetual commandment.
00:38:04They were still
00:38:06observing the seventh day
00:38:08rest
00:38:09they were still
00:38:10observing Shabbat.
00:38:12But at the very least
00:38:13we see
00:38:13a couple things here
00:38:15but number one
00:38:16we see the continuation
00:38:16of what we saw
00:38:18in the Sanak
00:38:18with the Shabbat
00:38:20especially as far as
00:38:21the day of the week
00:38:22goes.
00:38:23We see that it was
00:38:24still the seventh day
00:38:25that we have not
00:38:26examined or seen
00:38:27any sort of change
00:38:29in the Gospels
00:38:31and we also see
00:38:32Yeshua coming forth
00:38:34and putting
00:38:35out there
00:38:36correct interpretation
00:38:39as compared
00:38:40to the Pharisees
00:38:42incorrect interpretation
00:38:44a lot of times
00:38:44or overly
00:38:45stringent interpretation
00:38:47and by extension
00:38:48that would mean
00:38:49that the Essenes
00:38:50were even more
00:38:51stringent
00:38:52so it would be
00:38:52even more
00:38:53incorrect
00:38:53on their particular
00:38:55laws and observances.
00:38:57but I will give
00:38:59them this
00:38:59they were doing
00:39:01probably the best
00:39:02they could
00:39:02unfortunately
00:39:03they
00:39:04went too far
00:39:05with it
00:39:06and trying to
00:39:06make it
00:39:07binding
00:39:08for a lot
00:39:09of people
00:39:09their particular
00:39:11interpretations
00:39:12their oral law
00:39:13that they came up
00:39:14with
00:39:15and that's just
00:39:16really where they
00:39:17went wrong.
00:39:17They said
00:39:18okay well this is
00:39:19our opinion
00:39:20this is how we
00:39:21see it
00:39:21but you do
00:39:22you
00:39:22that would
00:39:23have been
00:39:23a different
00:39:24situation
00:39:24but that's
00:39:25not how
00:39:25they did
00:39:26it
00:39:26and unfortunately
00:39:27there's a lot
00:39:28of mainstream
00:39:28churchianity
00:39:29churches today
00:39:31that do
00:39:32exactly the same
00:39:33thing.
00:39:33They have their
00:39:35faith and message
00:39:36they have
00:39:36their doctrine
00:39:37or their
00:39:38particular
00:39:38denomination
00:39:39and they say
00:39:40you have to
00:39:41believe this
00:39:41or you're not
00:39:42saved
00:39:43or something
00:39:44similar to that
00:39:46and it's just
00:39:46a repeat
00:39:47of the same
00:39:48pharisaical
00:39:49oral law
00:39:50kind of thing
00:39:51but I'm getting
00:39:52on a
00:39:52tangent
00:39:53so
00:39:53anyways let's
00:39:54move on
00:39:54we saw
00:39:54these passages
00:39:55a few passages
00:39:57anyways from
00:39:58the gospels
00:39:59there's a whole
00:39:59lot more there
00:40:00and like always
00:40:01I encourage you
00:40:01go forth and
00:40:03do your own
00:40:04study to
00:40:04increase your
00:40:06knowledge and
00:40:07your study on
00:40:07this particular
00:40:08subject and
00:40:09the Shabbat
00:40:10and the gospels
00:40:11now let's move
00:40:12on and look at
00:40:12Shabbat and the
00:40:14rest of the
00:40:14Brit Hadashah
00:40:15after the
00:40:16gospels
00:40:17we're going to
00:40:18be looking at
00:40:18first the
00:40:19excuse me
00:40:21the book of
00:40:21Acts
00:40:22because there's
00:40:22a lot of
00:40:23information
00:40:23there
00:40:24especially
00:40:25when it
00:40:25gets in
00:40:26to the
00:40:27possible
00:40:28or
00:40:29theorized
00:40:30change
00:40:30in the
00:40:31Shabbat
00:40:32which we
00:40:32won't be
00:40:32getting into
00:40:33a lot
00:40:33here
00:40:33so let's
00:40:35go ahead
00:40:35and start
00:40:35with
00:40:35Acts
00:40:36anyways
00:40:37Acts
00:40:38chapter 13
00:40:38verses 26
00:40:39through 27
00:40:40men
00:40:41men
00:40:41brothers
00:40:41sons of
00:40:42the
00:40:42race
00:40:42of
00:40:42Abraham
00:40:43and
00:40:43those
00:40:43among
00:40:44you
00:40:44fearing
00:40:44Elohim
00:40:45to you
00:40:46the word
00:40:47of this
00:40:47deliverance
00:40:48has been
00:40:48sent
00:40:48for those
00:40:49dwelling in
00:40:50Jerusalem
00:40:50and their
00:40:51rulers
00:40:51because they
00:40:52did not
00:40:53know him
00:40:53nor even
00:40:54the voices
00:40:54of the
00:40:55prophets
00:40:55which are
00:40:56read
00:40:56every
00:40:57Sabbath
00:40:58having
00:40:59filled
00:40:59them
00:40:59and having
00:41:00judged
00:41:01him
00:41:03a lot
00:41:04going on
00:41:04here
00:41:04but the
00:41:05main part
00:41:06we're going
00:41:06to be
00:41:06looking at
00:41:07obviously
00:41:07is the
00:41:08subject
00:41:08on the
00:41:09Sabbath
00:41:09and what
00:41:10does it
00:41:11say
00:41:11happens
00:41:12with the
00:41:13prophets
00:41:14the voices
00:41:14of the
00:41:15prophets
00:41:15the
00:41:15aka
00:41:16the
00:41:17not
00:41:17well
00:41:18it's
00:41:18saying
00:41:18here
00:41:18that they
00:41:19are
00:41:19read
00:41:20every
00:41:20single
00:41:21Sabbath
00:41:24what day
00:41:24is that
00:41:26well
00:41:26they're still
00:41:27under the
00:41:27impression
00:41:27here
00:41:28that the
00:41:29Sabbath
00:41:29is only
00:41:30the seventh
00:41:30day
00:41:30because that's
00:41:31the only
00:41:31day of
00:41:32the week
00:41:32ever
00:41:33in
00:41:33scripture
00:41:33that has
00:41:34a name
00:41:34and that
00:41:35name
00:41:35is
00:41:35Sabbath
00:41:36so here
00:41:37it's saying
00:41:37it's giving
00:41:38an example
00:41:39a description
00:41:40that the
00:41:41prophets
00:41:42the Tanakh
00:41:42the scriptures
00:41:43are read
00:41:44every
00:41:45Sabbath
00:41:46so think
00:41:47about that
00:41:47for just
00:41:48a moment
00:41:48why would
00:41:49it only
00:41:50be read
00:41:50every
00:41:51Sabbath
00:41:51well there's
00:41:52probably
00:41:53some people
00:41:53back then
00:41:54who read
00:41:54it more
00:41:55than just
00:41:55on the
00:41:56Sabbath
00:41:56they'd
00:41:56probably
00:41:56read it
00:41:57other days
00:41:57during the
00:41:58week too
00:41:58but a lot
00:41:59of people
00:41:59they were
00:42:00going about
00:42:00their business
00:42:01they were
00:42:01raising families
00:42:02they were
00:42:03at their
00:42:03jobs
00:42:03they were
00:42:04trying to
00:42:04raise
00:42:04livestock
00:42:05or crops
00:42:06or stuff
00:42:06like that
00:42:07that's what
00:42:07the other
00:42:08six days
00:42:08were for
00:42:09then they
00:42:09took off
00:42:10on the
00:42:10Sabbath
00:42:10and they
00:42:11got to
00:42:11congregate
00:42:12together
00:42:13fellowship
00:42:14and hear
00:42:15the scriptures
00:42:15read
00:42:16and they
00:42:16were read
00:42:17every single
00:42:18Sabbath
00:42:19so we've
00:42:19got an
00:42:19example here
00:42:20that the
00:42:21scriptures are
00:42:21read
00:42:22every
00:42:23Sabbath
00:42:23or at least
00:42:24that was their
00:42:25custom back
00:42:25then
00:42:25we do that
00:42:26nowadays too
00:42:27a lot of
00:42:28mainstream
00:42:28churchianity
00:42:29congregations
00:42:30do that
00:42:31but especially
00:42:32with the
00:42:32messianic
00:42:33congregations
00:42:34we hear
00:42:35God honest
00:42:35truth
00:42:36do the
00:42:36three year
00:42:37Torah portion
00:42:37so every
00:42:38single
00:42:39episode
00:42:40every single
00:42:41live stream
00:42:41and pretty
00:42:42much every
00:42:42single
00:42:43Shabbat
00:42:44that we're
00:42:44doing this
00:42:44we always
00:42:45do the
00:42:46Torah
00:42:47the half
00:42:48Torah
00:42:48and the
00:42:49Brit Hadashah
00:42:50so we read
00:42:51the scriptures
00:42:51every single
00:42:52Sabbath
00:42:53some do the
00:42:54one year
00:42:54and that's fine
00:42:55but they do it
00:42:55every single
00:42:56Sabbath
00:42:58we're continuing
00:42:59that which was
00:43:00done way back
00:43:01then as well
00:43:02so keep that
00:43:04in mind
00:43:05as we look at
00:43:06this next
00:43:06particular passage
00:43:07Acts chapter
00:43:0813 verses
00:43:0913 through
00:43:0916 verse
00:43:1142 and
00:43:12verse 44
00:43:13and having
00:43:14put out from
00:43:15Paphos
00:43:16Shaul and
00:43:17those with
00:43:17him came to
00:43:18Perg in
00:43:19Pamphulia
00:43:20and Yohanan
00:43:21having left
00:43:22them returned
00:43:22to Yerushalayim
00:43:23but passing
00:43:24through from
00:43:25Pergo they
00:43:25came to
00:43:26Antioch
00:43:27and Pisidia
00:43:28and went
00:43:29into the
00:43:29congregation
00:43:29on the
00:43:30Sabbath
00:43:31day
00:43:31and sat
00:43:32down
00:43:32and after
00:43:33the reading
00:43:33of the
00:43:33Torah
00:43:34and the
00:43:35prophets
00:43:35the rulers
00:43:36of the
00:43:36congregation
00:43:36sent to
00:43:37them
00:43:37saying
00:43:38men
00:43:39brothers
00:43:39if you
00:43:40have any
00:43:40word of
00:43:41encouragement
00:43:41for the
00:43:41people
00:43:42speak
00:43:42and Shaul
00:43:43standing up
00:43:44and motioning
00:43:45with his
00:43:45hand said
00:43:46men
00:43:47Yisraelis
00:43:48and those
00:43:49fearing
00:43:49Elohim
00:43:50listen
00:43:50and when
00:43:52the
00:43:52Yehudim
00:43:52went out
00:43:53of the
00:43:53congregation
00:43:54the nations
00:43:55begged to
00:43:56have these
00:43:56words spoken
00:43:57to them
00:43:57on the
00:43:59next
00:43:59Sabbath
00:44:00and on
00:44:01the next
00:44:01Sabbath
00:44:02almost all
00:44:03the city
00:44:03came together
00:44:04to hear
00:44:05the word
00:44:06of Elohim
00:44:06but notice
00:44:08here
00:44:08when
00:44:09Shaul
00:44:10or Paul
00:44:10and his
00:44:11companions
00:44:11they go
00:44:12and they
00:44:13come to
00:44:13the city
00:44:14and what
00:44:15do they
00:44:15do
00:44:15they want
00:44:16to go
00:44:16congregate
00:44:17they want
00:44:17to go
00:44:17fellowship
00:44:18so they
00:44:19go to
00:44:20the
00:44:20congregation
00:44:20or synagogue
00:44:21on the
00:44:22Sabbath day
00:44:23because they
00:44:23know
00:44:23everybody's
00:44:24going to
00:44:24be there
00:44:24because
00:44:25everybody
00:44:25was
00:44:25congregating
00:44:26on the
00:44:26Sabbath
00:44:27day
00:44:27on the
00:44:27seventh
00:44:28day
00:44:29so
00:44:30apparently
00:44:30word
00:44:31still hasn't
00:44:31got out
00:44:32that there's
00:44:33been any
00:44:33change
00:44:33to the
00:44:34Sabbath
00:44:35yet
00:44:35and
00:44:36they were
00:44:37invited
00:44:37after the
00:44:39scripture
00:44:39readings
00:44:40to speak
00:44:41if they
00:44:42had a
00:44:42word
00:44:43to speak
00:44:43and
00:44:44so they
00:44:45did
00:44:45and the
00:44:46people were
00:44:46so impressed
00:44:47they asked
00:44:47them to
00:44:48come back
00:44:48the next
00:44:49Sabbath
00:44:50now if
00:44:51there had
00:44:51been a
00:44:51change
00:44:51or if
00:44:52it didn't
00:44:53matter
00:44:53anymore
00:44:53Paul and
00:44:55his companions
00:44:55could have
00:44:56said okay
00:44:56well come
00:44:57back tomorrow
00:44:57come back
00:44:58on Sunday
00:44:58and we'll
00:44:59talk to you
00:44:59again then
00:45:00when we
00:45:00have Sunday
00:45:01morning service
00:45:02during Sunday
00:45:02school
00:45:02no they
00:45:04didn't do
00:45:04that
00:45:04instead
00:45:05they came
00:45:06back the
00:45:07next
00:45:07Sabbath
00:45:08because
00:45:09during that
00:45:10week they
00:45:10had their
00:45:11stuff to do
00:45:11they had
00:45:12families
00:45:13and they
00:45:13had jobs
00:45:15and they
00:45:15had crops
00:45:16and livestock
00:45:17etc etc
00:45:18etc
00:45:19so yeah
00:45:20they went
00:45:22on the
00:45:22Sabbath to
00:45:23hear these
00:45:24scriptures
00:45:24they went
00:45:25on the
00:45:25Sabbath to
00:45:26hear the
00:45:26teachings of
00:45:27Shaul and
00:45:28his companions
00:45:28etc etc
00:45:30it was on
00:45:31Shabbat
00:45:32they were
00:45:33still observing
00:45:34Shabbat
00:45:35even here
00:45:37I'm assuming
00:45:38this is probably
00:45:38about the same
00:45:39time as
00:45:40Peter's vision
00:45:41which was
00:45:42about 10
00:45:43years or so
00:45:44after the
00:45:44ascension of
00:45:45Yeshua
00:45:46even 10
00:45:47years
00:45:48after the
00:45:49ascension of
00:45:49Yeshua
00:45:49they're still
00:45:50keeping
00:45:51seventh day
00:45:52Sabbath
00:45:55went on
00:45:55and looking
00:45:56at Acts
00:45:56chapter 15
00:45:57verses 19
00:45:58through 21
00:45:59therefore I
00:46:00judge that we
00:46:01should not
00:46:01trouble those
00:46:02from among
00:46:02the nations
00:46:03who are
00:46:03turning to
00:46:03Elohim
00:46:04but that we
00:46:05write to
00:46:06them to
00:46:06abstain from
00:46:07the defilement
00:46:07of idols
00:46:08and from
00:46:08whoring
00:46:09and from
00:46:09what is
00:46:10strangled
00:46:10and from
00:46:11blood
00:46:11and from
00:46:12ancient
00:46:12generations
00:46:13Moshe has
00:46:14in every
00:46:15city
00:46:15those
00:46:16proclaiming
00:46:16him
00:46:17being read
00:46:18in the
00:46:18congregations
00:46:19every
00:46:20Sabbath
00:46:20we saw
00:46:22the example
00:46:22so far
00:46:23and here
00:46:23they're just
00:46:24restating it
00:46:25explicitly
00:46:25we already
00:46:27know this
00:46:27because we
00:46:28saw it in
00:46:28the scriptures
00:46:29previously
00:46:30people go
00:46:31they learn
00:46:32from the
00:46:32Torah
00:46:33because it's
00:46:33read to
00:46:34them
00:46:34every
00:46:35Sabbath
00:46:35and then
00:46:36they get
00:46:36their teaching
00:46:36as we saw
00:46:37with the
00:46:37example
00:46:38with
00:46:38Shaul
00:46:38and his
00:46:39companions
00:46:40and that
00:46:41I know
00:46:42I learn
00:46:42more as I
00:46:43read more
00:46:44and I
00:46:44continue
00:46:44reading and
00:46:45studying
00:46:46I'm sure
00:46:46you do
00:46:47the same
00:46:47thing
00:46:47and even
00:46:48with hearing
00:46:49the Torah
00:46:50portions
00:46:50or hearing
00:46:51an audio
00:46:52Bible
00:46:52or whatever
00:46:53it is
00:46:53hearing it
00:46:54and you
00:46:55learn
00:46:56this is
00:46:57the same
00:46:57thing they
00:46:57were doing
00:46:58back then
00:46:58and when
00:46:59would they
00:47:00go and
00:47:00they would
00:47:00learn
00:47:00when would
00:47:01they go
00:47:01and they
00:47:01hear it
00:47:02they would
00:47:02learn it
00:47:03and hear
00:47:03it on
00:47:04the
00:47:04Sabbath
00:47:05the
00:47:05seventh
00:47:06day
00:47:07of the
00:47:08week
00:47:08this is
00:47:09one of
00:47:09the more
00:47:10famous
00:47:10passages
00:47:11here
00:47:11and
00:47:12a lot
00:47:13of
00:47:13people
00:47:13within
00:47:13mainstream
00:47:14churchianity
00:47:14will point
00:47:15to this
00:47:15and say
00:47:16well there's
00:47:16only four
00:47:17things that
00:47:18Gentiles are
00:47:18required to
00:47:19do and
00:47:19everything else
00:47:19is okay
00:47:21they might
00:47:21not say
00:47:22that last
00:47:22part
00:47:23directly
00:47:23but
00:47:23they're
00:47:24definitely
00:47:24thinking
00:47:25and inferring
00:47:25it
00:47:26anyways
00:47:27it says
00:47:28here that
00:47:28the people
00:47:29coming in
00:47:30the new
00:47:30converts
00:47:31are to
00:47:32do four
00:47:33things
00:47:33immediately
00:47:33when coming
00:47:35into the
00:47:35faith
00:47:35and that
00:47:36is to
00:47:36abstain
00:47:36from the
00:47:37defilement
00:47:37of idols
00:47:37from
00:47:38whoring
00:47:39from
00:47:40what is
00:47:40strangled
00:47:40and from
00:47:41blood
00:47:42or from
00:47:43ancient
00:47:43generations
00:47:44Moshe has
00:47:44in every
00:47:45city
00:47:45those
00:47:45proclaiming
00:47:46him
00:47:46being read
00:47:47into the
00:47:47congregations
00:47:47every
00:47:48Sabbath
00:47:50so the
00:47:50implication
00:47:51here
00:47:51if you read
00:47:52the entire
00:47:52passage
00:47:53is that you
00:47:54immediately
00:47:54start doing
00:47:54those four
00:47:55things when
00:47:56you come
00:47:56into the
00:47:56faith
00:47:56and then
00:47:57you go
00:47:58to the
00:47:58congregation
00:47:59on
00:48:00when
00:48:00on
00:48:01Sabbath
00:48:01and you
00:48:02listen
00:48:02you get
00:48:03taught
00:48:04and you
00:48:04learn more
00:48:05as you
00:48:05go on
00:48:06and on
00:48:06and on
00:48:08the
00:48:08Judeans
00:48:09especially
00:48:09Maimonides
00:48:10listed out
00:48:11the commands
00:48:12and determined
00:48:13there were
00:48:13613
00:48:14I disagree
00:48:15with that
00:48:16number
00:48:16but that's
00:48:17what's
00:48:17commonly
00:48:17believed
00:48:18so let's
00:48:19go with
00:48:19that just
00:48:19for the
00:48:20sake of
00:48:20efficiency
00:48:22anyways
00:48:23to put
00:48:24on a
00:48:25new
00:48:25convert
00:48:25613
00:48:26commands
00:48:26and say
00:48:27you must
00:48:28learn and
00:48:28memorize
00:48:28and know
00:48:29and do
00:48:30all of
00:48:30these
00:48:30right from
00:48:31the get
00:48:31go
00:48:32wow
00:48:33that would
00:48:33be
00:48:33overwhelming
00:48:34and would
00:48:35turn people
00:48:36away pretty
00:48:36quick I
00:48:37think
00:48:37and it's
00:48:38not about
00:48:39that it's
00:48:39not about
00:48:39enslavement
00:48:40it's about
00:48:42joy and
00:48:42freedom and
00:48:43salvation and
00:48:44assurance and
00:48:45confidence and
00:48:46stuff like that
00:48:47and you can
00:48:48learn as you
00:48:49go
00:48:49me I'm a
00:48:50slow learner
00:48:51I am
00:48:52well
00:48:53I ain't gonna
00:48:54say how old
00:48:54I am but
00:48:55yeah I've
00:48:56been learning and
00:48:57studying for a
00:48:57long time because
00:48:58I'm a slow
00:48:58learner but
00:49:00I'm finally
00:49:01starting to get
00:49:01certain things
00:49:02and other
00:49:02things I'm
00:49:03still learning
00:49:03about but
00:49:05yeah the more
00:49:05you read the
00:49:06more you
00:49:06progress in
00:49:07your faith the
00:49:07more you
00:49:07continue in
00:49:09your studies the
00:49:10more you'll
00:49:10learn the
00:49:11further you'll
00:49:12get and
00:49:12more educated
00:49:13you are and
00:49:14that's the way
00:49:15it worked back
00:49:15then as well and
00:49:16the apostles knew
00:49:17this and that's
00:49:18why they came up
00:49:19with these four
00:49:19things when
00:49:20immediately coming
00:49:21to the faith and
00:49:22then learning as
00:49:23you go what's
00:49:24one of those
00:49:25things you learn
00:49:25as you go that
00:49:27is Shabbat and
00:49:28I would argue
00:49:29that the
00:49:30they would even
00:49:30know Shabbat
00:49:31immediately because
00:49:32they're being told
00:49:33to go to the
00:49:35congregation on
00:49:35Shabbat and
00:49:37hear the Torah
00:49:39being read
00:49:39so that would
00:49:41almost be like
00:49:42five things
00:49:42then
00:49:44but yeah if
00:49:46you stay with
00:49:47the mainstream
00:49:48churchianity
00:49:49mindset that
00:49:51only these four
00:49:51things are
00:49:51required of
00:49:52quote unquote
00:49:53Gentiles nowadays
00:49:56then that
00:49:57really leaves a
00:49:58lot of things
00:49:59open to
00:49:59interpretation
00:50:00number one
00:50:00I was thinking
00:50:01about this
00:50:02previously and
00:50:03if you only go
00:50:04by these four
00:50:04things that
00:50:05would open the
00:50:06door for
00:50:07bestiality that
00:50:09would open the
00:50:09door for
00:50:10incest a
00:50:11certain
00:50:11translation says
00:50:12to abstain
00:50:13from sexual
00:50:14defilement or
00:50:15we call it
00:50:17fornication or
00:50:18et cetera et
00:50:18cetera and some
00:50:20people might say
00:50:20well bestiality and
00:50:21incest are included
00:50:22in those but
00:50:23well that's an
00:50:24interpretation some
00:50:25people may have a
00:50:26different opinion
00:50:27and not consider it
00:50:28that but the
00:50:30Tanakh the Torah
00:50:31explains it
00:50:32specifically do
00:50:34not lie with a
00:50:35beast no need to
00:50:37interpret there
00:50:38you know exactly
00:50:38what it says
00:50:39do not lie with
00:50:41your brother's
00:50:42wife do not lie
00:50:43with your mother
00:50:43do not lie with
00:50:44your daughter
00:50:46specifically outlines
00:50:47incest no
00:50:49interpretation needed
00:50:50but if you only go
00:50:51by these four
00:50:52things there's a
00:50:53whole lot of
00:50:54gray area and
00:50:55that is not what
00:50:57the disciples and
00:50:58the apostles were
00:50:58trying to get at
00:50:59no they said
00:51:01start out with
00:51:01these four things
00:51:02learn as you go
00:51:04progress in your
00:51:05faith that's how
00:51:06I've done it
00:51:06that's how a lot
00:51:07of you done it
00:51:08so you know
00:51:09exactly where
00:51:10these people are
00:51:11coming from
00:51:11you know exactly
00:51:12how much sense
00:51:13this kind of
00:51:14thinking makes
00:51:15and that's what
00:51:16the apostles were
00:51:17thinking here when
00:51:18they put out this
00:51:19decree at the
00:51:20Jerusalem council
00:51:21in Acts 15
00:51:22moving on to
00:51:23Acts chapter 18
00:51:24verse 4
00:51:25and he
00:51:27talking about
00:51:27Shaul was
00:51:28reasoning in the
00:51:29congregation every
00:51:30Sabbath and went
00:51:31over both
00:51:32Yehudim and
00:51:34Greeks
00:51:37so was Paul on
00:51:39the street corner
00:51:39yelling and
00:51:41screaming and
00:51:42beating people with
00:51:44a Bible no
00:51:45no he would go
00:51:46into the
00:51:47congregation he
00:51:48would go into
00:51:48the synagogue he
00:51:49would go
00:51:49fellowship and
00:51:51when did he do
00:51:51that what day of
00:51:52the week
00:51:52seventh day which
00:51:54is called the
00:51:55Sabbath he would
00:51:55do it on the
00:51:56Sabbath and he
00:51:57would reason with
00:51:58them he would
00:51:59probably do a
00:52:00teaching he would
00:52:01probably have a
00:52:02discussion period he
00:52:03would reason with
00:52:04them and he won
00:52:05over both the
00:52:06Judeans and the
00:52:07Greeks which is
00:52:10absolutely amazing
00:52:12so yeah
00:52:14all
00:52:15Shaul
00:52:16he kept
00:52:17observing the
00:52:18seventh day
00:52:18Sabbath
00:52:19here in Acts
00:52:20chapter 18
00:52:21moving on
00:52:22this is really
00:52:23cool check this
00:52:24out
00:52:24Hebrews chapter 4
00:52:26verses 9 through
00:52:2711
00:52:27so there remains a
00:52:29Sabbath keeping for
00:52:30the people of
00:52:31Elohim for the one
00:52:32having entered into
00:52:33his rest as
00:52:34himself also rested
00:52:35from his works as
00:52:36Elohim rested from
00:52:38his own let us
00:52:39therefore do our
00:52:39utmost to enter into
00:52:41that rest lest
00:52:42anyone fall after
00:52:43the same example of
00:52:44disobedience that's
00:52:46Hebrews chapter 4
00:52:47verses 9 through
00:52:4811 the interesting
00:52:50part here is that
00:52:51very first part where
00:52:53it says so there
00:52:53remains a Sabbath
00:52:55keeping for the
00:52:56people of Elohim
00:52:58now some people
00:52:59interpret this as a
00:53:01rest in Yeshua but
00:53:03not the Sabbath day
00:53:05of the week seventh
00:53:06day of the week but
00:53:08that's not true look
00:53:09at the Greek here and
00:53:10the word here is
00:53:11sabbatismos
00:53:14sabbatismos and
00:53:15this is a word that
00:53:17occurs only once in
00:53:19all the New Testament
00:53:20and it's right here in
00:53:22Hebrews chapter 4
00:53:23now you can go look up
00:53:25other examples from
00:53:27outside of the New
00:53:29Testament around the
00:53:30same time frame
00:53:31especially with Justin
00:53:33modern modern and
00:53:34uh who was it maybe
00:53:39philo it's in the notes
00:53:41you can go look it up
00:53:41in the notes but yeah
00:53:43and when they use it in
00:53:45their writings they
00:53:46actually use it in the
00:53:48sense of seventh day
00:53:50keeping Sabbath
00:53:51observing and the word
00:53:54here sabbatismos that
00:53:56suffix east most is a
00:53:58suffix indicating something
00:54:00that is done it makes it
00:54:01a verb it's sort of
00:54:04like the word you find
00:54:05in scripture if you look
00:54:06in the Greek
00:54:07baptismos
00:54:08baptismos you've
00:54:09probably heard that
00:54:10during our episode on
00:54:12baptism but baptismos is
00:54:14like the act of
00:54:16baptizing
00:54:17sabbatismos is the act of
00:54:19Sabbath keeping
00:54:23here is specifically
00:54:24saying there remains a
00:54:26Sabbath keeping a
00:54:27ongoing continuous not
00:54:31changed Sabbath keeping
00:54:33for the people of
00:54:35Elohim it doesn't say
00:54:37there is a first day
00:54:39keeping it doesn't say
00:54:40there's a third day
00:54:41keeping it says there is
00:54:43a Sabbath keeping
00:54:45remains a Sabbath keeping
00:54:47for the people of
00:54:48Elohim that tense
00:54:50right there indicates
00:54:51that it was before and
00:54:53it still is there
00:54:54remains a Sabbath
00:54:56keeping for the people
00:54:57of Elohim
00:54:59so I thought that was
00:55:00very very cool and
00:55:02it this really gets
00:55:05involved because if
00:55:07you're looking at a
00:55:08word that's only used
00:55:08once in all of
00:55:09scripture then you
00:55:10really do have to kind
00:55:12of dig into the weeds
00:55:13but kind of stuff I
00:55:15enjoy so yeah
00:55:18anyways let's look at
00:55:19some other things that
00:55:21didn't really deserve
00:55:22its own section here
00:55:23and this particular
00:55:24teaching but is
00:55:25relevant and
00:55:26interesting all the
00:55:28same number one all
00:55:30the Gospels that we
00:55:31looked at and you can
00:55:32go further in your own
00:55:33studies and read them
00:55:34all for yourself do a
00:55:35in-depth study on your
00:55:38own about the Sabbath
00:55:39and the Gospels but all
00:55:41the Gospels presuppose
00:55:43observance they record
00:55:45disputes over
00:55:46interpretation but they
00:55:47never record any kind
00:55:49of dispute over which
00:55:51day of the week it is
00:55:51nor do they record a
00:55:53dispute or abrogation
00:55:55of Shabbat
00:55:58number two when it
00:55:59comes to the Sabbath
00:56:00and Yeshua the
00:56:02controversy was never
00:56:03with the Sabbath or
00:56:04which day of the week
00:56:05was the Sabbath but
00:56:06rather always with the
00:56:07Judean interpretation or
00:56:09the tradition of keeping
00:56:11the Sabbath we said it
00:56:14before Yeshua his
00:56:16disciples and the
00:56:17Pharisees and the
00:56:18Sadducees and the
00:56:19Essenes they all agreed
00:56:20about which day of the
00:56:22week the Sabbath was
00:56:23where they had their
00:56:25conflict was over the
00:56:27interpretation of how
00:56:28to observe it and with
00:56:30Yeshua being the Lord
00:56:32or the master of the
00:56:33Shabbat he has the final
00:56:35say in the interpretation
00:56:36of the ordinances around
00:56:38Shabbat
00:56:40Jesus healing on the
00:56:41Sabbath as we indicated
00:56:43earlier was about doing
00:56:44good and not about
00:56:46profit that's something
00:56:48for us to keep in mind
00:56:49nowadays especially
00:56:49here is something that
00:56:51came to mind as I was
00:56:52putting this particular
00:56:53teaching together there
00:56:55is a conspicuous lack of
00:56:57controversy over which
00:56:59day of the week the
00:57:00Sabbath is
00:57:02let's stop for a moment
00:57:04with the Tanakh
00:57:06in the Tanakh every single
00:57:08person I have ever looked
00:57:10at agrees that in this
00:57:12knock it teaches that
00:57:13the seventh day is the
00:57:15Sabbath no other day
00:57:17the seventh day this was
00:57:19very very important to
00:57:20both Yahweh and the
00:57:22people in fact they killed
00:57:24people over disrespecting
00:57:26the Sabbath they were sent
00:57:29into exile to let the land
00:57:30have its Sabbath it was
00:57:33very very important to the
00:57:36people the Sabbath was
00:57:39now think for a minute
00:57:42considering how important
00:57:43Shabbat was to the people
00:57:45especially the leaders if
00:57:47someone came in and said
00:57:49okay that's all done away
00:57:51with we're changing it to
00:57:52this day do you not think
00:57:54there would have been a huge
00:57:56uproar over that I mean it's
00:58:01almost like coming in saying
00:58:02okay you used to believe
00:58:04there's only one God but I'm
00:58:06here to tell you there are
00:58:07thousands of gods
00:58:10there would have been stoned on
00:58:12the spot
00:58:14and the same thing with
00:58:15Shabbat if they had come in
00:58:17and said okay it's been
00:58:18changed there would have been
00:58:21probably the very first world
00:58:22war at that point it would
00:58:24have been a huge conflict but
00:58:26there is never any sort of
00:58:28discrepant or any sort of
00:58:29conflict recorded in Scripture
00:58:32about which day of the week
00:58:33Shabbat is supposed to be on
00:58:35another thing too is that if
00:58:38they came in and they said
00:58:40okay that whole Shabbat thing
00:58:42is done away with now that
00:58:44Yeshua is here now that Yeshua
00:58:46has died now that Yeshua has
00:58:47ascended the whole Shabbat
00:58:49thing is done away with
00:58:51once again it would have been a
00:58:53huge controversy over that
00:58:55particular statement over that
00:58:57particular doctrine and there
00:58:59would have been something in
00:59:00Scripture about it but there's
00:59:03nothing there is a conspicuous
00:59:05lack of controversy regarding
00:59:08which day of the week that
00:59:10the Sabbath was on or that the
00:59:12Sabbath was still ongoing
00:59:13everyone agreed the disciples
00:59:16there are believers Yeshua the
00:59:18Pharisees Sadducees etc etc they
00:59:21all understood they all accepted
00:59:23they all agreed which day of the
00:59:25week it was and that it was
00:59:27still ongoing the disagreement
00:59:30about whether it was still
00:59:32continuing or which day of the
00:59:34week it was didn't come until
00:59:35later and we'll get into that
00:59:37during the next episode also
00:59:40notice you also when you go
00:59:42through the we go through the
00:59:44Brit Hadashah the aka New
00:59:46Testament you never find a
00:59:48statement such as regard the
00:59:50first day as holy or the first
00:59:53day which is the Sabbath you never
00:59:56see anything like that or any such
00:59:57thing to back up the seventh day
01:00:01let's look at what it says about
01:00:03that in one particular passage we
01:00:05look in Exodus chapter 20 verses
01:00:078 through 11 six days you labor and
01:00:10shall do all your work but the
01:00:11seventh day is a Sabbath of Yahweh your
01:00:16Elohim for in six days Yahweh made
01:00:18the heavens and the earth the sea and
01:00:20all that is in them and rested on the
01:00:22seventh day therefore Yahweh blessed
01:00:27the seventh Sabbath day and set it
01:00:30apart Yahweh blessed a certain day
01:00:33which is this seventh day which is
01:00:36Shabbat never says he blessed any
01:00:40other day of the week and never says
01:00:43any other day of the week is a
01:00:45regular continuous Sabbath they could
01:00:49have added Sabbath here you see that
01:00:51the weekly Sabbath is referred to in
01:00:53Exodus as a Sabbath
01:00:57as we discussed earlier there are other
01:00:59Sabbaths that spoken of in Scripture
01:01:00but never is there even discussed an
01:01:04additional Sabbath and the Brit Hadashah
01:01:07that is a regular weekly recurring
01:01:10Sabbath in addition to the seventh day
01:01:13Sabbath we don't even get that much
01:01:16so yeah look at the what is and isn't
01:01:20included in Scripture in Scripture it
01:01:22calls the seventh day the Sabbath it
01:01:24calls the seventh day holy and
01:01:27consecrated and sacred and etc etc etc
01:01:31never does it say anything similar
01:01:33about any other day of the week and
01:01:36this is something that really sticks out
01:01:38in my mind and if it's important to
01:01:40you to make sure to definitely put that
01:01:41down in your notes to remember for
01:01:43future you so yeah that is our teaching
01:01:46on Shabbat in the Brit Hadashah hopefully
01:01:50yeah I really do appreciate everyone
01:01:53joining us for this and just to recap
01:01:54we looked at Shabbat in the Tanakh I'm
01:01:58sorry in the Gospels with Yeshua and
01:02:00the Pharisees the grains the plucking the
01:02:03grains in the field we look at the
01:02:05decrees or some of the decrees of
01:02:07Julius Caesar and Augustus Caesar regarding
01:02:09the Sabbath observance by the Jews and
01:02:12exemption from military service we looked at
01:02:16Yeshua healing and being the final end all
01:02:19interpreter of Shabbat observance we also
01:02:24looked at how the people of the New
01:02:27Testament or the aka or the Brit Hadashah
01:02:30continued to observe the seventh day of
01:02:33the week even after the death burial
01:02:34resurrection and ascension of Yeshua and
01:02:38we saw that there remains present tense and
01:02:43indicating that it came before and still is in
01:02:45effect it remains a Sabbath keeping for the
01:02:49people of Elohim and that's just the God
01:02:53honest truth once again I thank you for
01:02:56joining us and continuing through this
