00:02:43you're watching on a video platform or an audio podcasting platform now starting
00:02:48out let's outline what we're going to be going through tonight real quick just so
00:02:51you give a just give you a quick roadmap of what this teaching is going to sort of
00:02:57look like first off we're going to go over some foundational terminology some
00:03:01information that will kind of help set the stage and help you to better
00:03:05understand what we're talking about as we go forward now of course we're going to
00:03:10be backing everything up with a ton of scripture so if you're taking notes
00:03:15definitely make sure you've got your notes ready and you've exercised that hand
00:03:19but you don't get any cramps coming up we're going to look at the word Gentile as it
00:03:24appears in the Tanakh and how it is used in the Tanakh we're going to look at Israel
00:03:29and is Israel actually referred to as a Gentile in scripture well stay tuned we're
00:03:36going to get into that we're going to look at the word Gentile and the Brit
00:03:40Hadashah how it's used there we're going to look at Yeshua's own words when he is
00:03:45teaching or speaking or talking about stuff and in the words that he speaks and
00:03:50it mentions Gentiles how it is that he is referencing Gentiles there so you
00:03:54definitely don't want to miss that we're also going to finish up with some logic and
00:03:58reasoning thinking about well what is the modern understanding or definition
00:04:04that is common within church entity nowadays and how does that logically fit
00:04:09with what we find from scripture so that's going to be very eye-opening and it's
00:04:15going to be more of a thought experiment than anything else at that point and then
00:04:19finally we're going to wrap it up with a summary of everything that we've gone
00:04:23over in this particular presentation so let's start out with some teaching
00:04:28foundations and some how to say bedrock information and terminology for the drosh
00:04:36going forward here and first and foremost let's go over the word Jew what is a Jew
00:04:43well a lot of people think they know what Jew means but just to give it a
00:04:48definition the word Jew can mean one of three particularly different things it can be
00:04:54someone from the lineage of the tribe of Judah that's actually where the word really comes
00:04:59from that word Jew so someone from the lineage of the tribe of Judah someone from the lineage
00:05:05of the southern kingdom of Judea because remember when the nation of Israel split there was the
00:05:12northern kingdom and the southern kingdom and the southern kingdom was referred to as Judea
00:05:16so that was three tribes that was remaining there in that particular southern kingdom of Judea that was
00:05:24Levi Benjamin and Judah so it could be a term Jew could refer to someone from the southern kingdom
00:05:33also the third instance is could refer to someone of the Jewish faith now let's stop right here a moment
00:05:41let's kind of hash this out real quick because this really gets confusing a lot of times people talk
00:05:49and use the word Jew as if it went all the way back to the beginning with Adam and Eve
00:05:53but that's false Judaism the religion the faith of Judaism did not go back that far
00:05:59it only goes back to the first century during the time of Yeshua
00:06:05how is that well the reason is back in the Tanakh we see and even in the book of Genesis in the very
00:06:12first three four chapters we get messianic prophecies about this coming Messiah and it's all throughout
00:06:19the Tanakh these prophecies about the Messiah Moses tells us that Yahweh will raise up a prophet like me
00:06:27right all sorts of different things so there's talk about this coming Messiah and we know that Yeshua
00:06:34is that foretold Messiah from the Tanakh in that sense and with that understanding we know that
00:06:41the entire set of scriptures and the lineage all the way from creation was about Messiah and therefore
00:06:47is an entire messianic or Christian history not a Jewish one Judaism has obviously denies the real
00:06:57Messiah and that didn't start until the first century when the Messiah actually came and there was that
00:07:03group of people that group of Judeans who rejected the true Messiah and that is the starting point
00:07:10for Judaism as we know it today and the all-encompassing Judaism too not just the Orthodox but also the
00:07:18Reformed and the Karate etc etc they all reject the true Messiah so the religion or the faith of Judaism
00:07:26did not start until the first century so no and that's knock those back then were not of the Jewish faith it might have been
00:07:34of the tribe of Judah or the southern kingdom of Judea but they were not of the Jewish faith they were all Christians or
00:07:42messianics even way back then in the Tanakh they were looking forward to the actual true Messiah but that's what the term Jew
00:07:50actually means means it means someone from the lineage of the tribe of Judah someone from the lineage from the southern kingdom of
00:07:56Judea or someone of the Jewish faith now unfortunately people tend to conflate these things and incorrectly use that term and
00:08:07we'll try to point it out as we read various dictionary or website entries and they get it wrong and they use the term Jew or the
00:08:16Hebrew people or the Hebrew people or the people in the Tanakh and we'll try to point that out as we go forward but just know that
00:08:23sometimes it does get misused and you've got really got to understand the context to understand what they're actually
00:08:30referring to when they say the term Jew now moving on now that we know what the term Jew actually means we can now put our
00:08:40thinking processes to work and we now know and understand why it is that Adam
00:08:46himself was not a Jew Noah was not a Jew Abraham was not a Jew Abraham is never not one single instance in
00:08:56scripture ever referred to as a Jew Abraham is the first one referred to as a Hebrew yes but not a Jew because all
00:09:09all Jews are Hebrews all ethnic Jews there are genetic Jews they are Hebrew no doubt but not all
00:09:17Hebrews are Jews some Hebrews are Levites some Hebrews are Benjamites etc etc so you get that all Jews are
00:09:27Hebrews but not all Hebrews are Jews so Abraham he might have been the first Hebrew but he was not a Jew
00:09:34Jew Isaac was not a Jew
00:09:36Isaac was not a Jew Jacob was not a Jew and finally Moses was not a Jew he was actually from the tribe of Levi
00:09:44so Moses was a Levite not a Jew etc etc etc etc you understand the term now so you can go through and you can easily
00:09:54easily figure out if someone you're reading about in scripture is actually a Jew or not in which sense of that term they
00:10:02they actually belong to if the term Jew can be applied to them so that's a big to do about one particular
00:10:10word but I wanted to correct that because there's a lot of misunderstanding when it comes to that
00:10:16particular word moving on let's look at the word exegesis now exegesis is a word that means from
00:10:24Britannica.com quote exegesis the critical interpretation of the biblical text to discover
00:10:30its intended meaning end quote and from logos.com quote simply put exegesis is not about discovering what
00:10:38we think a text means or want it to mean but what the biblical author meant it's concerned with
00:10:44intentionality what the author intended his original readers to understand end quote so exegesis is when you read and
00:10:52study the scriptures and draw out what the bible is actually telling you you're learning from the bible
00:11:00that is exegesis that's the kind of process we should be using we should be using exegetical processes to learn
00:11:08what the bible wants us to learn the bible should change us we should not change the bible
00:11:14now when people try to change the bible that is a process called eisegesis and from edam online quote
00:11:22eisegesis is the reading of one's own ideas into scripture from greek ice meaning in or into plus the ending
00:11:30from exegesis end quote and from logos.com quote x means to take out of while ice means into so quite simply
00:11:40exegesis means digging into the text to pull out the meaning while its opposite eisegesis reads
00:11:46meaning into a text that isn't there end quote so hopefully you understand the difference now
00:11:52with eisegesis you're taking your own beliefs your own presuppositions and you're forcing them back into
00:11:58the text to try and make it say what you want it to say and that leads to all sorts of errors
00:12:04errors so exegesis is learning what the bible wants you to learn eisegesis is trying to force your own
00:12:12ideas into the bible the bible should change us we shouldn't try to change the bible that's the
00:12:18difference and when it comes to the word gentile this is definitely a lot of times a an exercise of
00:12:25eisegesis they people within churchianity nowadays they take their own presuppositions their own
00:12:31tradition of what they think gentile actually means and they try to force it back into scripture
00:12:39and that's led to a lot of errors and unfortunately a lot of people nowadays they think that gentile
00:12:44means someone other than jew whether that be of the jewish ethnicity or especially of the jewish religion
00:12:51so there's jews and then there's everybody else and of course everybody else is a gentile and that's
00:12:58okay we should be gentiles we can't change it etc etc but is that true well hold on have your notes
00:13:06ready because we're going to get into all of that coming up here in just a minute but that is what
00:13:11exegesis and eisegesis is now let's look at a super nerdy term real quick that goes along with this
00:13:18particular study and this isn't you don't have to remember this this is just for your perusal for your
00:13:25notes for your understanding if you want to be super nerdy like i am anyways this is the word exonym
00:13:32and an exonym is a name used for a people group by outsiders as opposed to the name the group uses
00:13:39for itself here is well actually let's go over some more definitions anyways the opposite word endonym is
00:13:47the self designation that's what we call ourselves exonym like we just said is the outsider designation
00:13:54that's what others call us or what we call others other group of other people some examples german is
00:14:01an exonym like here in america we would call people from germany as germans but germans wouldn't call
00:14:08themselves germans they would call themselves george that would be the indonym that's what germans call
00:14:14themselves they call themselves george greek is an exonym that's what we call people from greece but people
00:14:22from greece would call themselves helens or helenets or however you pronounce that do you get the
00:14:28difference there it's what one group calls an outside group that's what an exonym is in academic
00:14:35historical and biblical discussions exonym is the term to use when the emphasis is not your own people
00:14:42group hopefully you've already kind of discerned what we mean by this exonym is going to be our word of
00:14:50of the night and that's going to be gentile that's what we believers call everyone else
00:14:57gentile stay tuned we're going to back that up moving on this is about goyim and we're going to look
00:15:05at goyim a lot here coming up in the tanakh section but anyways from biblehub.com quote hebrews usually in
00:15:13plural goyim meaning in general all nations except the jews in course of time as the jews began more
00:15:20and more to pride themselves on their peculiar privileges it acquired unpleasant associations
00:15:25and was used as a term of contempt end quote if you've ever been around other or i've been around
00:15:32a group of jews and i do this all the time on uh online forums stuff like that they'll refer to anyone who
00:15:41is not an ethnic jew or someone who is not of the jewish faith as a goy or the goyim
00:15:48boy is the singular goyim is the plural and it's used as a derogatory term a lot of times nowadays
00:15:57even in scripture we'll show you in this minute even in scripture it's used as a derogatory term
00:16:01as well in a lot of cases too but just know if some you're talking online or you're talking in person to
00:16:09a jew or whatnot and they refer to you as a goy or one of the goyim a lot of times it's probably
00:16:16going to be in a derogatory sense but again it's all in context so take everything into context
00:16:23but moving on the greek word sorry let me back up real quick goyim or goy is going to be translated a
00:16:30lot of times into the word that we know of nowadays as gentile or nations or some other terms we'll get
00:16:36into in just a minute that is the hebrew word that's translated a lot of times into gentile but
00:16:41the greek word that we're going to look at when we get into the brit hadashah the greek word is going
00:16:47to be ethnos and from biblestudytools.com quote the greek word most often translated to gentile is
00:16:54ethnos this word means nations or people in the bible when this word is used it is not describing one
00:17:01nation or ethnic group rather the term gentile refers to anyone who is not of jewish descent
00:17:08gentile would also broadly describe those who do not believe in god end quote
00:17:14now here is that conflation i was telling you about earlier where it says that rather the term
00:17:19gentile refers to anyone who is not of jewish descent here they're actually the way i'm taking
00:17:24in context as meaning anyone that is not of hebrew descent jewish descent is incorrect hebrew descent
00:17:32or hebraic descent that would be the more correct term going on looking at gentile the definition from
00:17:40merriam webster quote first sense number one often gentile a person of a non-jewish nation or of non-jewish
00:17:48faith number two in second sense heathen number three often gentile one who is not a member of
00:17:56the church of jesus christ of latter-day saints end quote and unfortunately that's true as well you
00:18:01talk to various uh people within the mormon church or the latter-day saint church whatever you don't call
00:18:07it and they refer to people who are not mormons as gentiles so again that's the exonym that's used
00:18:15used for people uh by people in the mormon church who are of people who are not in the mormon church
00:18:23i'm getting tongue tied there are other groups that do this as well if you've ever learned anything
00:18:28about the amish the amish refer to everyone who is not amish as the english so different groups have
00:18:37different exonyms for outside people groups when it comes to the bible if you want to say it in
00:18:46you won't say it in hebrew you would say goi or goyim meaning that would mean someone who is not of
00:18:52the people of yahweh we translate that into our word a lot of times as the word gentile or heathen
00:19:00or pagan or nations sometimes and also the greek word is going to be ethnos which we again translate into
00:19:09the english word gentile or heathen or pagan or nations etc now one of the best explanations for
00:19:17the word gentile comes from the notes in the scriptures 2009 translation and it reads here
00:19:24quote in hebrew and in greek the word literally means nations israel is a nation but is not numbered
00:19:31among the nations it is for this reason that israel is rather referred to as a people whereas the word
00:19:38nations are used for those outside of covenant with yahweh in scripture the word nations has the meaning
00:19:44of non-israeli or non-yehudim in most cases in a few instances it means many or all nations including
00:19:52israel the true believer is repeatedly admonished not to learn the way of the gentile therefore those who
00:19:59are gentiles but came to belief who are grafted in among israel simply have to unlearn their old
00:20:06gentile ways and come to the light of zion and walk in the light of the renewed yerushalayim they
00:20:13shall serve yahweh they shall love the name of yahweh they shall no longer defile the sabbath and they
00:20:18shall hold fast the covenant of yahweh end quote and that is beautifully put from the editors of the
00:20:27scriptures 2009 translation but once again as we say here just about every single episode if not
00:20:36every other episode all of our doctrine all of our faith the things that we should believe
00:20:41should come from scripture not from any pope or priest or cardinal or preacher or reverend or
00:20:48anything like that it shouldn't even come from notes in a translation or a lexicon we should always
00:20:53get it from scripture with that thought let's go ahead and look at the word gentile in the tanakh
00:21:01and what that is now what we referenced earlier is this word gentile in english comes from the hebrew
00:21:07word goy that is the singular and the plural is goyim and we'll see both those instances coming up as we
00:21:13go through this anyways the outline of biblical usage from blue letter bible.org goy i'm sorry this is
00:21:21strong's h1471 again h1471 goy and the outline of biblical usage from blue letter bible.org
00:21:30it says here the it's translated as nation or people nation or people usually of non-hebrew
00:21:36people of descendants of abraham of israel of swarms of locusts other animals
00:21:42and as a proper proper masculine noun goyim meaning nations in the plural the king james translates
00:21:50strong's h1471 in the following manner as nation 374 times heathen 143 times gentiles 30 times
00:22:03so you can see this as we go through this this hebrew word and then the subsequent greek word that we get
00:22:10into all translated as gentile that meaning behind all these words is the same the general meaning behind
00:22:18these words is going to be the meaning of someone who is not in covenant with yahweh someone who is
00:22:25an unbeliever a lot of times they're pagans they're polytheistic but they don't have to be it's just
00:22:31someone who is not in covenant is not a believer who is not one of the children or people of yahweh
00:22:40and you'll see that as we go through this there's only a few rare exceptions and we'll get into that as
00:22:45well but most of the time it means someone who is an unbeliever who is not saved who's not a member
00:22:50of the people of yahweh when i look at the strong's definition for goy and strong's has goy defined
00:22:58as a foreign nation a gentile a troop of animals or a flight of locusts gentile heathen nation people
00:23:05from brown driver briggs pretty much the same thing nation people descendants of abraham definitely of
00:23:10israel of non-hebrew peoples figurative a swarm of locusts from jacenus's hebrew lexicon
00:23:16defines goy as a people a confluence of men the word is general and used of the nations at large
00:23:22and also which should not have been doubted by some interpreters of the israelites
00:23:28especially is used of the other nations besides israel often with the added notion of being foes and
00:23:34barbarians or of being profane persons strangers to the root true religion i.e gentile poetically
00:23:41applied to herds and troops of animals from jasrael's dictionary of the targums crowd people nation
00:23:47gentiles gentile idolater etc etc from klein's dictionary has goy defined as nation people gentile
00:23:56and irreligious jew etc etc and again that this is a jewish dictionary so they're defining
00:24:03jew as meaning someone of hebrew descent so understand that as well and finally from the
00:24:10hebrew and aramaic lexicon of the old testament and it defines goy as gang people whole population
00:24:16of a territory rather or dv rather stresses the blood relationship often hardly different nation
00:24:23a single nation often the pagan peoples as opposed to israel the heathen mankind people persons of
00:24:29animals of mosquitoes of birds etc etc so that is your lexicographical or your lexicon definitions of
00:24:37the hebrew word goy that's commonly translated as gentile where we get our word gentile from especially
00:24:44in the uh tanakh and once again for i cut these entries down a whole bunch and if you want to see
00:24:51more of these particular entries for the dictionaries and the lexicons go check out the notes on our
00:24:58website now as we get into scripture one of the biggest things that we see when it comes to the word
00:25:04gentile is time and time and time and time again scripture tells us do not do like those gentiles
00:25:14don't believe me pay attention here we go leviticus chapter 18 verses 24 through 30 do not defile yourselves
00:25:24with all these for by all these the nations are defiled which i am driving out before you thus the
00:25:30land became defiled therefore i punished it for its crookedness but you you shall guard my laws and my
00:25:37right rulings and not do any of these abominations the native nor stranger who sojourns among you because
00:25:44the men of the land who are before you have done all these abominations and thus the land became
00:25:49defiled for whoever does any of these abominations those beings who do them shall be cut off from
00:25:55among their people and you shall guard my charge so as not to do any of these abominable laws which
00:26:02were done before you so as not to defile yourselves by them i am yahweh your elohim now notice here what it
00:26:10says it says do not do as the nations do because they were defiled by these things and before verse
00:26:1824 it actually listed out some of those things that we'll get to here coming up but notice here in the
00:26:24scriptures 2009 translation the one that we use here at god honest truth it translates the word goyim as
00:26:32nations uh most of the time but other translations translate it differently a lot of times they will
00:26:39translate it as pagan or heathen or gentile as you see here on your screen one particular translation
00:26:47even transliterates the word goyim and for instance in english it says we're in all these the goyim
00:26:55fowl whom i sent away from your face and other translations use the word heathen pagan etc etc
00:27:00so it's all the same thing boy gentile pagan heathen whatever they're it's all the same thing
00:27:10as someone who is outside of covenant with yahweh someone who is not one of the people of yahweh and
00:27:17here this is just one among many many many and the it's not where it says do not do the ways of the
00:27:26gentile because they are defiled by the what they do and the land spits them out because of what they
00:27:33do well what is it they do well in scripture here in leviticus 18 it actually lists out the things they
00:27:38did before it gets down here to verse 24 now what are some of the things that it lists out that these
00:27:44gentiles did that we should not be doing well some of the things that it's talking about
00:27:49is in verse 60 i'm sorry verses 6 through 17 it's talking about various forms of incest that the
00:27:57gentiles were doing verse 18 it talks about permanently vexing your wife that's something
00:28:04the gentiles were doing verse 19 talks about relations with a menstruating woman
00:28:09gentiles were doing that verse 20 it talks about adultery in verse 21a it talks about sacrificing
00:28:16children to pagan gods one particular pagan god in particular verse 21b it's talking about profaning
00:28:23the name of yahweh then in verse 22 it talks about homosexuality that the gentiles were participating in
00:28:32look back at the story of um sodom and gomorrah and finally in verse 23 leading up to verse 24
00:28:41in verse 23 it's talking about the gentiles partaking in bestiality and so i'll stop right
00:28:48there for just a moment and kind of go on this particular point here in leviticus chapter 18
00:28:54it's talking about all these things the gentiles did and with the modern definition especially within
00:28:58mainstream churchianity it gets all sorts of screwed up and this is some of the error that is present
00:29:05within the mainstream christian church nowadays because they say that there is jew and gentile
00:29:12and that everyone nowadays if you're not a jew then you're a gentile so they're saying that everyone
00:29:17who is a baptist or catholic or methodist presbyterian lutheran episcopalian anglican
00:29:24etc etc they're all gentiles and therefore they're not bound by that whole uh law stuff all that old
00:29:32testament stuff they don't have to do all that stuff it's done away with well number one they
00:29:38think that the law the torah was not applicable to gentiles ever it was only applicable to the people
00:29:47of israel and only for a certain time until quote unquote jesus done away with it well number two they
00:29:56also say that jesus came to free us from the law okay well if we're gentiles and the law never
00:30:02applied to us to begin with and how were we freed from something that was was never applied to us
00:30:09that makes no sense well they don't study their bibles and they don't understand what
00:30:13a gentile actually is and that's the purpose of this particular episode also they try to use this
00:30:21distinction between jew and gentile saying that they are gentiles and they say they're a gentile christian
00:30:26they're a saved gentile which is an oxymoron to try and justify their doing of things that are
00:30:33prohibited by scripture now i'm not talking about some of these things on your screen right here
00:30:39what they're generally talking about is the practice of paganism that has a jesus sticker on it nowadays
00:30:45things like sunday sabbath christmas easter etc etc they're saying oh we're gentiles so we can do
00:30:53those gentile things but is that really true well number one no it's not true even for the things i
00:31:00mentioned but also look here at the things that the gentiles do that the tanakh was listing out
00:31:06feastiality incest relations with menstruating women adultery profaning the name of yahweh etc etc etc
00:31:15these are the gentile things that scripture says that gentiles do and that we as believers as people of
00:31:21yahweh should not do another sentiment that comes along a lot of times within mainstream churchianity
00:31:28is that some people it's all over the place but some people will say
00:31:34that the law the torah was done away with except for you know the civil stuff and then there's moral
00:31:42stuff moral stuff is still applicable but the civil stuff that's all been done away with all that
00:31:46ceremonial stuff where's that distinction in scripture there isn't one so when someone says
00:31:53you know the moral law or the civil law ceremonial law they're making that up and it's all arbitrary
00:32:01that by themselves there's no scripture that says here are the moral law and there then there's no
00:32:08scripture that says here are the civil laws no it's all just one law it's all just one torah one bible
00:32:16and one more point before we move on there's other groups within mainstream churchianity that say that
00:32:23well only those things that are restated within the aka new testament only things that are restated
00:32:30are applicable nowadays everything else is permitted and okay to do well again they don't know what
00:32:39they're talking about because they haven't studied scripture or else they would know that things like
00:32:44incest and bestiality are not reiterated in the new testament in the brit hadashah
00:32:52what they're saying is that bestiality is okay the homosexual i'm sorry that incest is okay
00:32:57and there's other things too that's just two big ones right there so again they're contradicting
00:33:03their own claim to the faith that they claim to have it's it's mind-boggling when you get into this
00:33:10whole messianic way of thinking and you start understanding that the entire bible is for us
00:33:16even today it always has been you start having that kind of mindset you start studying and learning
00:33:21the entire bible you start learning the torah the different parts of the torah
00:33:27the various species and stuff like that it's a beautiful thing and it opens up your mind and
00:33:31the rest of scripture really just pops out and comes alive but these people are being held back
00:33:37it's like scripture says they have a veil in front of their face they can't understand a lot of what
00:33:42scripture actually means because they have all these misunderstandings that have come down through
00:33:48tradition but sorry i'm getting on the soapbox here but yeah this is in scripture we're told that there
00:33:56are people of yahweh and then there's gentiles and scripture tells us do not learn the way of the
00:34:03gentiles and do not do the way of the gentiles again we look at some other passages here is
00:34:12deuteronomy chapter 12 verses 29 to 31 when yahweh your elohim does cut off from before you the nations
00:34:20which you go to dispossess and you dispossess them and dwell in their land guard yourself that you are
00:34:26not ensnared to follow them after they are destroyed from before you and that you do not inquire about
00:34:31their mighty ones saying how did these nations serve their mighty ones and let me do so too do not do
00:34:38so to yahweh your elohim for every abomination which yahweh hates they have done to their mighty
00:34:44ones for they even burned their sons and their daughters in the fire to their mighty ones or burn
00:34:49their daughters and sons in the fire to their gods again child sacrifice is something that gentiles do
00:34:56that's a gentile practice and we're told not to do that we're told not to do what the gentiles do
00:35:03all over the place here is just another example and again let's stack it up here is some more
00:35:11examples from scripture deuteronomy chapter 18 verse 9 when you come into the land which yahweh your
00:35:16elohim has given you do not learn to do according to the abominations of those nations do not learn
00:35:22to do according to the abominations of those gentiles isaiah chapter 34 verse 2 the displeasure of yahweh is
00:35:31against all the nations all the gentile and his wrath against all their divisions he shall put them
00:35:38under the ban he shall give them over to the slaughter and finally one more this comes from
00:35:44jeremiah chapter 10 verse 2 and this is a famous passage especially around the time of christmas but
00:35:50let's get off the whole christmas thing for just a minute and look at it just how it relates to us and
00:35:56gentiles in jeremiah chapter 10 verse 2 it says here thus said yahweh do not learn the way of the
00:36:06nations do not learn the way of the gentile do not learn the way of the heathen do not learn the way
00:36:12of the pagans do not learn the way of the goyim and do not be awed by the signs of the heavens for the
00:36:19nations are awed by them once again we're told do not learn the ways of the gentile and this is
00:36:31there's we presented a bunch of you right here it's all been in rapid succession but there's a
00:36:35bunch more it's all over the tanakh says do not be like the gentile the gentiles can come in they can
00:36:44change their ways but we are not to go after them and change our ways into those pagan gentile heathen
00:36:50way and we can get off on a tangent explaining how various people that were outside of israel
00:36:57or outside of covenant came into covenant uh people such as ruth people such as rahab the harlot
00:37:05etc etc etc so even back in the snog there was a way to be grafted in and lots of people did do that we
00:37:12look at the exodus from israel i'm sorry the exodus from egypt it talks about the hebrews or israel
00:37:18coming out of egypt with a mixed multitude what does that mean that means people who were not
00:37:24israeli people who were not hebrew so even the exodus from egypt even at the foot of mount sinai with
00:37:31the giving of the torah with the giving of the ten commandments there was a mixed multitude it wasn't
00:37:37just hebrews it was a bunch of different people even then and what did they say at the foot of
00:37:43the mountain whatever you say yahweh we will do all of them they were all the people of yahweh even
00:37:53though they weren't all the same blood they weren't all hebrews so yeah that's let's not get off on a
00:37:59tangent so that is the word goy or goyim and the vast majority of time when the word goy or goyim is
00:38:08used it's generally used of a people group that is not in covenant with yahweh people who are pagan
00:38:17but don't have to be pagan they can be atheist i guess so that's how goy or goyim is generally used
00:38:24when it is used in the tanakh and that's the word that we get our word gentile or is translated into
00:38:30the word gentile however there are a few rare instances where the nation of israel or the israelis
00:38:40are referred to as goy here in genesis chapter 12 verse 2 this is yahweh speaking to abram
00:38:48he says here and i shall make you a great nation and bless you and make your name great and you shall
00:38:56be a blessing here it is using the word goy now the vast majority of time when this word goy is
00:39:07referring to people outside of covenant with yahweh it's in the plural goyim but generally when it's
00:39:14referring to israel it's used in the singular i did not have time to track down the significance of
00:39:21that but just take note as you go through here put that in your notes and look for it when you go
00:39:27through your own studies but when the word goy and the very few rare instances that goy is used of
00:39:34israel it's always used in the um or it's generally used in the singular not the plural plural is used for
00:39:42people outside of israel and here in the ecb translation actually has the word goyim again
00:39:49trying to transliterate the hebrew word but if you'll look from the westminster leningrad codex if you can
00:39:55understand hebrew i'll put it up there for you a second word right there the goy that's in that's in
00:40:03the singular that lamed is a preposition is not actually part of the main word but goy that is the
00:40:10singular goyim is the plural another instance where israel is referred to as goy this comes from
00:40:20genesis chapter 18 verse 18 since abraham is certainly going to become a great and mighty
00:40:26nation and all the nations of the earth shall be blessed in him and here that first instance where it
00:40:35has nation in the singular that is the word goy and again it's referring to the israel the hebrews
00:40:45whatever you want to call it but the word goy is used in that instance of the descendants of abraham
00:40:53then it's got the plural nations and here it's got not goyim but you'll see here again from the
00:41:00westminster leningrad codex it has goyay goyay so it's a little bit different it's not goyim but
00:41:09still it's in a plural kind of construct and then going on looking at genesis chapter 35 verse 11 and
00:41:17elohim said to him i am el shaddai be fruitful and increase a nation and a company of nations
00:41:23shall be from you and sovereigns come from your body and once again the first instance here for
00:41:32nation it has the word in hebrew goy in the singular and then the second instance where it has the word
00:41:40nations is the plural goyim then again we look at some other verses and we look in exodus chapter 19
00:41:48verse 6 and you shall be to me a reign of priest and a set apart or holy nation those are the words
00:41:55which you are to speak to the children of israel here the word goy is again used in reference to
00:42:02israel and we look at deuteronomy chapter 4 verses 6 to 7 and you shall guard and do them and for
00:42:10before this is your wisdom and your understanding before the eyes of the peoples who hear all these
00:42:16laws and they shall say only a wise and understanding people is this great nation for what great nation
00:42:23is there which has elohim so near to it as yahweh our elohim is to us whenever we call on him now
00:42:30here again this is another one of those rare instances where the word boy is in reference to
00:42:36the nation of israel now there's another word here we'll get to coming up but this is the word for
00:42:42peoples and commonly when it's referring to the group of yahweh's people the israelis the hebrews
00:42:52whatever you want to call it those who are within covenant uh with yahweh it's referred to them as
00:42:59peoples instead of boy but we're going through right now some of the rare instances where boy is used
00:43:04of israel and finally from deuteronomy chapter 26 verse 5 and you shall answer and say before yahweh your
00:43:11elohim my father was a perishing aramean and he went down to mitzrayim and sojourned there with
00:43:17new men and there he became a great nation great mighty and numerous and once again this word goy is
00:43:25used in reference to the nation of israel or to the hebrew people and again it's very very rare that goy
00:43:35is used of israel only about uh i'd estimate only about eight or ten times in the entire tanah only
00:43:45about eight or ten times and you think about how many times that word goy is used in general it's
00:43:50going to be not even a drop in the bucket that it refers to israel the vast majority of the time
00:43:57when goy i'm sorry goyim is used in the snak it's referring to people outside of covenant with yahweh
00:44:05the unbelievers as it were and that's the word we get our word gentile from us goy is translated a
00:44:14lot of times into our word gentile but it's got the same meaning goyim or gentile still means
00:44:21means the vast majority of time still means someone who is an unbeliever and is not in covenant with
00:44:27yahweh now let's switch gears just a little bit and look at this second word that we have highlighted
00:44:31here this is the word for people and when israel is referred to as a group as a people group when
00:44:39we're referring to in the snak the people of yahweh those who are in covenant with yahweh is generally
00:44:46referred to as peoples and the hebrew word here is the hebrew word um or i'm sorry am and that's
00:44:54strong's h five nine seven one am and the outline of biblical usage from blue letter bible dot o-r-g
00:45:02as it defined as nation or people people nation persons members of one's people compatriots country
00:45:07men kinsmen or hindrid the king james translates strong's h five nine seven one am in the following
00:45:15manner people one thousand eight hundred and thirty six times nation 17 times and etc etc strong's
00:45:25definition for m defines m as a people as a congregated unit specifically a tribe as those of israel
00:45:33hence collectively troops or attendants figuratively a flock folk men nation people
00:45:39front driver briggs pretty much has the same thing as people people nation all mankind peoples in general
00:45:44and assembly justinus's hebrew lexicon it goes along the same lines a people so called from their being
00:45:50collected together is very often used of israel as being the people of god etc etc and then finally
00:45:57looking at the jasrals dictionary of the targums klein dictionary and the hebrew aramaic lexicon of
00:46:02the old testament pretty much the same thing as we observed earlier and again for a much longer
00:46:08entry uh you go to our notes you get the expanded entry for these different lexicon and dictionaries
00:46:17now for the halo or the hebrew aramaic lexicon of the old testament because it starts out defining it as
00:46:22paternal uncle or paternal relations clan kin etc etc but it all depends on the context again hebrew is
00:46:32huge on context of course greek is as well so it's again all according to context but we saw the rare
00:46:41instances where israel was referred to by the word goi but not going always in the singular but generally
00:46:50when the group the people israel is referred to is referred to by the hebrew word m that we just looked
00:46:58at in the lescons and dictionaries and that's what it's usually referred to most of the time and here
00:47:02is some really good examples of that from scripture in exodus chapter 5 verse 1 and afterwards moshe and
00:47:10aaron went in and said to pharaoh thus said yahweh elohim of israel let my people go so that they celebrate
00:47:18a festival to me in the wilderness and from exodus chapter 6 verse 7 and shall take you as my
00:47:26people and i shall be your elohim and you shall know that i am yahweh your elohim who is bringing
00:47:32you out from under the burdens of the mitzrah so in contrast to goi as people being outside of the
00:47:41covenant with israel gentiles this word am when it refers to israel especially when it refers to israel
00:47:48as meaning people or a group of people who are within covenant with yahweh so that's just a little
00:47:56bit from the tanakh and how goi and am is used a lot of times and where we get our english word gentile from that
00:48:05comes from the hebrew word going that means people who are outside of covenant with yahweh unbelievers as it were
00:48:13and this kind of thinking and this meaning goes on in to the brit hadashah or the aka new testament as
00:48:20well like i said at the beginning it changes languages when we get into the brit hadashah and that is
00:48:28the brit hadashah is mostly written in greek as far as we know and the greek word that's used to indicate
00:48:35this same meaning the meaning of someone who is not in covenant with yahweh is the greek word ethnos
00:48:42and this is strong's g1484 ethnos the outline of biblical uses from blueletter.org i'm sorry
00:48:50blueletterbible.org has it as a multitude whether of men or beasts associated or living together
00:48:57a multitude of individuals of the same nature or genus a tribe nation people group in the old
00:49:02testament foreign nations not worshiping the true god pagans gentiles that's what they're
00:49:07defining ethnos as and paul uses the term for gentile christians but that is actually up for
00:49:14debate strong's definition uh for ethnos defines it as a race as of the same habit a tribe especially a
00:49:23foreign non-jewish one usually by implication pagan gentile heathen nation people etc etc and once again
00:49:32gentile or unbeliever they don't have to be pagans but a lot of times they tend to be especially
00:49:38within scripture then look at the thayer's greek lexicon for ethnos as defined as a multitude whether
00:49:45of men or a beast associated or living together a company troop swarm number two a multitude of
00:49:51individuals of the same nature or genus number three a race or nation using the singular of the jewish
00:49:57people but again understand how they're fighting it out and conflating jewish people with the hebrew
00:50:05lineage or hebrew people and again in the singular just like boy was in comparison to goyim
00:50:13then number four for thayers as defined as foreign nations not worshiping the true god
00:50:18pagans gentiles and very often playing contradict contradistinction to the jews and number five
00:50:24paul uses ethnos even of gentile christians but again that is an oxymoron to say someone is a
00:50:30gentile christian and paul's usage is up for debate and from mounts's definition for ethnos as defined as
00:50:38gentile meaning or pagan foreign nation a people here is your liddell scott jones definition and the
00:50:45abbot smith manual greek lexicon of the new testament entry for ethnos pretty much going along the same
00:50:50lines as we've already looked at greek english lexicon of the new testament for ethnos has it
00:50:56defined as pertaining to one who is not a jew a gentile heathen pagan once again they're flattening
00:51:03out and uh conflating jew with hebrew and again it's all within context here and then finally here is
00:51:12your bdag of for the entry on ethnos as well i'm pretty much going along the same lines as we saw in
00:51:20the previous lexicons and dictionaries and again these expanded entries are in the notes so if you want
00:51:27even more information from these particular lexicons and dictionaries go check out the notes on our website
00:51:33click on the link down below for an easy way to get there but now let's get into some scriptures uh using
00:51:40ethnos the greek word ethnos as as commonly translated into the word gentile that we have
00:51:47nowadays and here are some distinctions that the scriptures make in the brit hadashah between
00:51:54the people of yahweh those that are righteous that are faithful the believers and those who are ethnos
00:52:00those who are gentiles pagan heathens the unbelievers it makes distinctions between us and gentiles
00:52:07we look in acts chapter 4 verses 27 through 28 for truly in the city there were gathered together
00:52:14against your set-apart servant yeshua whom you anointed both herod and pontius pilate with the
00:52:21nations and the people of israel to do whatever your hand and your purpose decided before to be done
00:52:28catch that distinction it it grouped all together herod pontius pilate and the nations and the people of
00:52:36israel so you got like three different people groups there with the gentiles aka the nations and
00:52:42being distinct from the people of israel then we look at acts chapter 7 verse 45 which our fathers
00:52:51having received it in turn also brought with yahushua into the land possessed by the nations where elohim
00:52:57drove out before the face of our fathers until the days of dawid so here it says that you're talking about
00:53:04yahushua and of course the people going into the land and the land is possessed by not the hebrews who
00:53:10are going into the land instead the distinction is made that the land is possessed by the gentiles
00:53:16again making the distinction between the people of yahweh and the gentiles and then we look at romans
00:53:23chapter 9 verses 6 through 7 however it is not as though the word of elohim has failed for they are not
00:53:30all israel who are of israel neither are they all children because they are of the seed of abraham
00:53:38but in yet chuck your seed shall be called so here is saying you probably already know this by now but
00:53:45it bears repeating he's saying that not all israel who are of israel they are not all israel who are of
00:53:53israel meaning that even though they may be genetically descended from abraham from the hebrews from
00:54:02etc etc even though they may have israeli blood in them that doesn't mean that they are
00:54:08part of the true and holy and spiritual israel that's what's meaning right there but other people
00:54:14can be grafted in there are ways to do that and those who are of the seed of abraham are heirs according
00:54:20to the promise and just because you are see that abraham doesn't mean you are righteous and that
00:54:26you're going to get into heaven it's not about genetic it's about faith and yeshua went on looking
00:54:33at romans chapter 9 verses 6 to 7 however it is not as though the word of elohim has failed oh we just
00:54:39read that sorry but looking at romans chapter 10 verses 12 through 13 because there is no distinction
00:54:44between yahudi and greek the same master of all is rich to all those calling upon him for everyone
00:54:50who calls on the name of yahweh shall be saved so here again talking about the jews or judeans
00:54:59and greeks because at the time it wasn't talking about you know just the tribe of judah and the
00:55:06generally what i found is that yahudi or jew is referring to the southern kingdom of judea that's why
00:55:13i like to make the distinction to be you know specific and say judean
00:55:18judean but he says there is no distinction between judean and greek because we're all one
00:55:26in yeshua we can come together even if we are not born from the same bloodline we can still come
00:55:34together and we're all one we're all equal i just thought that was important to reiterate and put out
00:55:41there for everyone now when talking about the distinction between gentile and believer and
00:55:48the modern definition of what people think that gentile actually means pay attention to this next
00:55:56passage here we look at romans chapter 11 verses 17 through 24 and if some of the branches were broken
00:56:04off and you being a wild olive tree i've been grafted in among them and came to share the root
00:56:10and fatness of the olive tree do not boast against the branches and if you boast remember you do not
00:56:16bear the root but the root bears you you shall say then the branches were broken off that i might be
00:56:22grafted in good i unbelief they were broken off and you stand by belief do not be arrogant but fear
00:56:30for if elohim did not spare the natural branches he might not spare you either see then the kindness
00:56:36and sharpness of elohim on those who fell sharpness but toward you kindness if you continue in his
00:56:44kindness otherwise you should you also shall be cut off and they also if they do not continue in
00:56:49unbelief shall be grafted in for elohim is able to graft them in again for if you were cut out of the olive
00:56:55tree which is wild by nature and were grafted contrary to nature into a good olive tree how much more
00:57:03shall those who are the natural branches be grafted into their own olive tree
00:57:11beautiful passage beautiful illustration of how those who are not genetically israel are grafted in because
00:57:21those of us who are from a gentile background part of the wild olive tree and were broken off or
00:57:31removed from that wild olive tree and then grafted into that good olive tree now what is that good olive
00:57:37tree that is the true faith the belief the true israel as it were we're grafted in we're not separate from
00:57:46what was we're not a separate plant we're actually part of that same plant part of that same belief
00:57:53and we should conform ourselves to that belief not stand on our old
00:58:01rough incorrect ways but we'll get more in that in the thought experiment but yeah it's beautiful how he
00:58:09illustrates this whole process here and like i said take note that it's going to be grafted into the good
00:58:16olive tree and it's still the one singular olive tree not two different olive trees not multiple different
00:58:24olive trees different plants it's still one plant one olive tree in this illustration let's look at
00:58:32the brehadashah and how it describes gentile as a negative thing and how you don't want to be a gentile
00:58:42from first corinthians chapter 10 verse 20 no but what the nation slaughter they slaughter to
00:58:48demons and not to elohim and i do not wish you to become sharers with demons so just like we looked at
00:58:56some of those passages within the tanakh we see here that paul is writing into the corinthians
00:59:02saying that this is what the nations do this is what the pagans do this is what the gentiles do this
00:59:09is what the heathens do and i do not want you to be partakers and sharers with those kind of practices
00:59:16which are practices that are demonic in nature paul is telling us do not be like the gentiles again
00:59:26drawing that distinction between us the believers and the unbelievers the aka gentiles paul goes on to
00:59:34make an even more powerful statement about gentiles here in first corinthians chapter 12 verse 2
00:59:44you know that you were nations led away to the dumb idols even as you might be led listen very very
00:59:55carefully what he says here especially in this very first part he says that you know that you were
01:00:02nations that you were pagans that you were gentiles that you were heathen that you were goyim that you were
01:00:14unbelievers what is that word were there in that sentence this is getting nerdy again but the word
01:00:24were is the english word and it's a present i'm sorry a past tense conjugation of the verb to be
01:00:32it's something that you used to be but are no longer getting that he's not saying that you are still
01:00:40gentiles and it's okay to do gentile things no no paul is saying to the apostle to the gentile
01:00:47is saying that you were gentiles but you are no longer and he doesn't want you to be led away to
01:00:55dumb idols even as you might be led but it's very impactful there that very first part which says
01:01:03that you were nations again going along that same point of how we are the believers and the gentiles the
01:01:12others are the unbeliever and here he's saying that you used to be unbelievers but now you're
01:01:20a believer you used to be gentiles and now you're not gentile see how that works so we who are in the
01:01:27faith are not gentiles paul says that we were but now we're not so that's just a little bit from the
01:01:37brit hadashah about the distinctions between us the believers and the gentiles aka the unbelievers
01:01:45there's a whole whole slew of passages and verses you can look at and there's a whole bunch more in
01:01:51the notes but let's go on for sake of time and look at yeshua and how he referenced gentiles when he was
01:01:58speaking to people in matthew chapter 6 verses 7 through 8 yeshua says and when praying do not
01:02:07keep on babbling like the nations do not keep on babbling like the gentiles do not keep on
01:02:12babbling like the pagans do not keep on babbling like the nations for they think that they shall
01:02:18be heard for the many words therefore do not be like them for your father knows what you need before
01:02:23you ask him but here yeshua is telling us don't do like those gentiles instead do this like a believer
01:02:30to do then in matthew chapter 6 verses 31 through 32 do not worry then saying what shall we eat or
01:02:38what shall we drink or what shall we wear for all these the nations seek for for all these the pagans
01:02:45seek for for all these the gentiles seek for for all these the heathens seek for and your heavenly father
01:02:53knows that you need all these so again yeshua is making a distinction between the gentiles and the
01:03:00believers here he's saying that the gentiles are worrying about all these various everyday things
01:03:07they're upset and they're anxious about it he says that's what the gentiles the unbelievers do
01:03:13but the believers instead in contrast should not do that and finally let's look at the third one here
01:03:21yeshua in mark chapter 10 verses 42 through 43 states and yeshua calling them near said to them
01:03:28you know that those who think to rule the nations are masters over them and their great ones exercise
01:03:33authority over them but it is not so among you but whoever wishes to become great among you shall be your
01:03:41servant but here he's talking about again a distinction between the gentiles the unbelievers and the
01:03:48believers because he describes the leadership style of the gentiles the leadership style of the
01:03:55unbelievers and he contrasts that with the leadership style that should be done by the believers the servant
01:04:03leadership style so again not only does the tanakh make a distinction between believers and gentiles but
01:04:12also the brit hadashah and our messiah yeshua is makes a distinction time and time and time again
01:04:19between those who are the people of yahweh the believers and those who are unbelievers that we
01:04:24refer to as gentile now let's do a thought experiment and look at some logic and reasoning very little of
01:04:32any philosophy is going to be here in this one i promise i've heard some of you talk about that and
01:04:37uh yeah some of you like it some of you don't but that's okay first and foremost if the breakdown in
01:04:45the bible is as it is traditionally or the way it is nowadays taught and there's nothing more than an
01:04:51ethnic racial difference between jew and non-jew meaning gentile that's the modern definition
01:04:58then how is paul even able to say that you were gentile
01:05:03well he can't race ethnicity isn't something that you can change there is no past tense of the verb
01:05:10when it comes to your ethnicity or your race think about it if you are of african descent you can't
01:05:18change that you're always going to be dark skinned you're always going to be of or i'm sorry of african
01:05:24descent is paul would never be able to say you were african descent no no it's not an
01:05:33ethnic thing it's not a racial thing it's a matter of the mind as we've already seen about coming coming
01:05:39into covenant another thing to ponder the gentile represents the prodigal collective of humanity
01:05:49think about it like this when the earth was created there was adam and eve and there was one people and
01:05:57they were all faithful to yahweh and then they the fall happened and then people left covenant they
01:06:04were unbelievers and they created all this paganism etc etc and that goes right along with the story
01:06:10that yeshua told us about the prodigal son going away so the gentiles are like the prodigal son and
01:06:17there is ways for the gentiles to come back into faith and stop being gentiles and become believers
01:06:25that happened in stock but it happened even more so ever since the time of the brit hadashah so
01:06:32again gentile represent or i'm sorry gentile means someone who is not a believer and gentile represents
01:06:40the prodigal collective of humanity those who are not believers those who are out of covenant
01:06:47to suggest that gentile is free from the torah is to suggest that they are free from the definitions
01:06:53and the standards of righteousness that is provided to us by yahweh our heavenly father again they try to
01:07:02in modern definitions they try to say that oh we're gentiles we're not jews we're gentiles well even though
01:07:09they're trying to say at the same time they're christians or messianic and this is false but in this
01:07:15sense they also say that we're free from the torah and by doing so they suggest that we are free from
01:07:20the definitions of righteousness that's provided to us that we should live by and guide our lives by
01:07:27but as we know that is just simply not true and they again they use this whole false definition of
01:07:34gentile to get away with doing things that they should not be doing and getting away from the things
01:07:40that the scriptures are telling us to do another point yahweh did not give the israelites one set
01:07:46of rules and the mixed multitude another they all entered the same covenant together go back in
01:07:53exodus read that passage there when they all come to the foot of mount sinai there was the hebrews
01:08:00and there was the mixed multitude and they all said we will do what you say and they were all the
01:08:10people of yahweh not just the genetic bloodline of the hebrews they were all the people of yahweh
01:08:18therefore there wasn't a single gentile there at the foot of sinai so think about that
01:08:25going on another point when a person moves to a new country and they gain citizenship to
01:08:33that particular country they don't bring in their old laws their old ways of doing things with them
01:08:39they learn the laws of the new land they don't say because i am a new citizen because i come from
01:08:44a different country the old laws of this country are canceled and we're going to do the laws of my old
01:08:49country no that's false that's not the way the world works and the same thing applies
01:08:55with gentiles when gentiles come into the faith when gentiles stop being gentiles and become
01:09:02believers they are to learn the ways of the new kingdom that they become a citizen of the kingdom
01:09:11of yahweh and what are the laws and regulations and instructions of the kingdom of yahweh the bible
01:09:17is the torah go check it out if you're going to be a believer that's the laws and rules and
01:09:23regulations that we are guided by and that we are judged by another point when a wife joins a family
01:09:31or even when a child is adopted into a family they are bound by the traditions and the rules of that
01:09:38family or that household they don't replace the family they don't replace the family rules or the
01:09:44family traditions or anything like that instead they expand the family and that's the same thing that
01:09:50gentiles do when gentiles change their ways they become believers instead of gentiles they expand
01:09:57the family and the kingdom of yahweh another point when the gentiles join the orchestra they don't
01:10:04bring their own sheet music or play whatever they want they pick up the same score so that the entire
01:10:09orchestra plays in harmony these are all analogies but this is a beautiful one to describe how gentiles
01:10:16come into the faith when they stop being gentile if a musician joins an orchestra and they try to
01:10:26play a piece of music that the orchestra is not playing it sounds horrid it really does when i was
01:10:33playing with a band way back when people would get their music mixed up sometimes they would think
01:10:39they were supposed to play this music when the conductor was actually saying hey we're gonna play this
01:10:44piece of music and immediately almost immediately when it started off you knew something wrong because
01:10:50it sounded absolutely horrible and it's the same thing with gentiles when they start being believers
01:10:58and stop being gentiles they need to play the same music that the rest of the orchestra the rest of the
01:11:04kingdom of yahweh is playing or else it's not going to work it's not going to be very good it's going to be
01:11:10all kinds of chaos as we've seen nowadays with a lot of various groups but then we'll get on soapbox right now
01:11:19and finally i'm sorry another point a branch grafted in is not a separate plant it's part of the main plant the
01:11:26same the same plant the gentile is a branch from a wild tree that is grafted into a cultivated ancient tree the good all of the tree the
01:11:34branch does not change the branch the branch does not change the all of the tree it the root changes the
01:11:40nature of the branch in the metaphor there we saw that directly from scripture it's like the this is a much
01:11:50more to the point on the nose description of gentiles i mean into the faith and gentiles leaving behind
01:11:59their gentile past and instead becoming believers it's like the the difference between a or explain
01:12:07like this it's like the difference between race and membership once again you cannot change your race
01:12:12but you can change your membership to different organization you used to be a member of the gentile
01:12:17organization now you can be a gentile i'm sorry now you can be a member of yahweh's organization a member of
01:12:25yahweh's people again you can't change your race but you can change your attitude which we should when
01:12:32we come into the faith when we start becoming believers and stop being gentiles we should change
01:12:37our attitude we should we also change our allegiance we can change our obedience and again that's something
01:12:44we do when we stop being gentiles and come into faith we change our obedience from a lot of times ourselves
01:12:51to yahweh we also can change our way of doing things which again something we should do when we come
01:12:57into faith and come into believing we should do the ways and the things of yahweh were described in
01:13:03scripture we can change our membership we used to be members of the gentile organization now we're
01:13:09members of yahweh's organization we change our identification used to be identified as the world now we identify
01:13:17as part of yahweh's people so that is that just hit me one day when i was going through this whole
01:13:26study and putting this whole teaching together i think it actually comes down and it's very pointed
01:13:32and on the nose but yeah there's things that you can change but there's things you can't change
01:13:37and that proves that gentile is not about race it's not about ethnicity because you cannot change your race
01:13:43and not change your ethnicity but you can change your beliefs you can change your attitude your
01:13:49allegiance your membership identification your way of doing things etc etc and that is why paul referred
01:13:56back in first corinthians that's why paul says that you were gentiles then that changed you're no longer
01:14:06gentiles you're now believer you're now part of the people of yahweh
01:14:13so in summary number one the term jew can mean a descendant of the tribe of judah
01:14:21someone from the line of the southern kingdom of judea or someone of the jewish faith but remember
01:14:26judaism the jewish faith did not start until the first century of the common era or the 30th
01:14:33year of the common era whatever you want to call it it hasn't been around for thousands of years
01:14:38believers exonym is a term to describe a people group outside of the reference people group so
01:14:45gentile is a exonym it's what we believers call unbelievers just like we saw from scripture the word
01:14:54gentile generally comes from the hebrew word goy in the stock israel is only referred to by the singular
01:15:01boy a minute number of times and we saw that israel is usually referred to as m as people as the people
01:15:11of yahweh not goy the word gentile generally comes from the greek word ethnos in the brit hadashan we saw
01:15:19many examples of that and there's many many more the brit hadashan makes it clear that gentile is something
01:15:25that we used to be that we were but are no longer after coming to the faith and the term gentile is
01:15:33used for those outside of covenant with yahweh and is usually synonymous with heathen pagan unbeliever
01:15:40or just a nation or group of people that are not yahweh's people but to put it bluntly you can either be a
01:15:48gentile or you can be a believer you can be a gentile or you can be a christian you can be a
01:15:56gentile or you can be a messianic whatever you want to phrase that but you can't be both
