A Bolivian Air Force Hercules C-130 cargo plane carrying newly printed currency crashed Friday near La Paz after veering off the runway while attempting to land at an airport in El Alto, killing at least 15 people and damaging around 15 vehicles on a nearby highway. The aircraft, which had departed from Santa Cruz with banknotes from the Central Bank, burst into flames on impact before firefighters extinguished the blaze. Defense Minister Marcelo Salinas confirmed the cargo involved newly printed bills, while Air Force Gen. Sergio Lora said two of the six crew members were still missing. Fire chief Pavel Tovar reported at least 15 fatalities but did not specify whether the victims were crew or motorists.
