Fifteen people were killed and at least 30 more were injured on Friday (Feb 27) evening after a ‌Bolivian Air Force Hercules aircraft carrying new banknotes from the country's central bank crashed onto a busy avenue amid inclement weather in the city of El Alto, near Bolivia's capital La Paz.

00:10to the Bolivian Air Force crashed onto a busy avenue in El Alto on Friday evening amid
00:16bad weather.
00:17Local authorities said the Hercules C-130 aircraft had departed from Santa Cruz carrying
00:23newly printed banknotes for the Central Bank of Bolivia.
00:26The plane landed at El Alto International Airport but skidded off the runway and crashed
00:32onto a nearby roadway.
00:33Video circulating on social media showed chaotic scenes, with crowds gathering at the crash
00:39site and some attempting to collect banknotes scattered across the ground.
00:44Authorities used water hoses and tear gas to disperse people from the area.
00:49Defense Minister Marcelo Salinas said the shipment belonged to the Central Bank and warned that
00:54the money had no legal value as it had not yet been officially issued.
